This August we had Bob's Heating and Air of Roswell come to provide yearly maintenance for our Carrier Air Conditioning system for the first time. We had selected him on the recommendation of a neighbor. In all the years of AC service, we never had a bill of over $235, including the year some time ago when we had the squirrel cage blower on our previous old AC replaced as a repair. The bill from Bob's was for $404.89! If you look at the invoice, you might say look at all the steps they took (which ought to be included anyhow). Except I watched and I am rather sure that many of the listed steps were not done or the diligence of those done. I never saw the thermostat checked, any temperature measuring equipment like an IR gauge for refrigerant lines, the cover was not removed from the blower enclosure. The list of things performed is likely just a form they attach to all the invoices. The list on my invoice has the wrong capacitor indicated - 70uF, not the actual 45&5uF that was replaced, supporting this suspicion. I mentioned that the outdoor temperature thermocouple was providing erroneous readings on the thermostat but that was never checked. It felt rushed. Compared to the performance of my previous AC service contractor (to whom I will being going back to), I was not impressed. The most outrageous charge was for a replacement capacitor - $189.89! This particular capacitor is a JARD 12788. Its price at the Supply House is $9.00! It's hard to find any run/start capacitor that is much more than $20. That is a $180.00 markup. The last capacitor replacement some years ago was nothing like this charge. I'll let you decide if this is the behavior of an honest and ethical business. The $90.00 for the external condenser coils seems rather out of hand to me also, particularly since it was done for no additional charge by the previous service contractor. The remainder of the outside unit is still grubby, including the fan blades, not that they said they would clean this; just pride of workmanship. I provided the new Aprilaire 213 filter ($60 at Amazon); one has to wonder what they would have charged. I paid the bill without contest, but wanted folk to know about my particular experience with Bob's. Yours may be different or you may be OK with all the above. No doubt they have happy customers. My recommendation would be to be sure in writing of what is included in the quoted base price and what the costs would be for possible extras before you agree to the service unless you know and trust your provider. Bob's may post a rebuttal which I will probably never read. Don't need to get into a he said she said debate. Just use your own discretion as you read it all. Live and learn. read more

However, once I let Bob know that I was beginning to experience degraded system performance, he moved me up the queue and had a tech out within two business days. The price was less than half of the quote I received from a large, well-known competitor in the area, and the work was done both quickly and efficiently. Updated review, because Bob's reply to my first review is full of lies, right down to claiming he gave us a line of credit. Well, then, I must be paying a phantom bill on my Discover card every month, the one I used to pay for the unit in full. What he still fails to realize is that our issues lie in his lack of updates/communication/accountability, where we *constantly* had to contact him to cobble together a plan. His unprofessional reply on Yelp is the most contact we've had with him! I suggest anyone check out the hidden reviews. Now let me reply to his false claims. I always review honestly & I welcome anyone to contact me for questions. "YOU DID NOT FOLLOW OUR RECCOMENDATIONS to move the unit to the other side of the house..." This makes no sense. The only time he recommended the SIDE of the house was when initially deciding on a location for the unit. Upon inspection he decided to keep it at the BACK of the house on the concrete slab. HE NEVER RECOMMENDED MOVING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE FOR THE NOISE ISSUE. The noise issue occurred AFTER installation. His story isn't even straight. "We suspected the existing concrete pad attached to the house (that we did not install) may be transmitting vibrations. (That's why we suggested moving the unit)." Yes, he did not install the concrete pad. No one is blaming him for that so what is the point being made? We ALSO SUGGESTED & AGREED W/HIM TO MOVE IT OVER a few feet off the slab as early as July. It took an additional 5 months for ANY progress. Then in October he actually said moving it was a "shot in the dark." "Multiple inspections of this unit were made by us and by other HVAC consultants including factory representatives I brought in from out-of-state. THEY ALL SUGGESTED MOVING THE UNIT (which you declined to do)." Lies. As said before, we agreed early on to move the unit. He sent someone who was going to ALREADY be in town to look at ANOTHER issue & not specifically brought in for us. If we wanted the noise gone WHY WOULDN'T WE AGREE MOVING if that's what he recommended? "Everytime the unit was tested and inspected it was working perfectly." THE ONLY ISSUE WAS THE NOISE, NOT THE AC'S ABILITIES. The noise didn't happen because as we told him it wasn't every time. We suggested he'd have to stay longer but he never returned. "In one instance you told Eddie 'Did you hear that? The unit just shook the house! He said 'No it didn't, I'm standing right beside you and I didn't even hear it start.'"I don't even know where to start with this blatant, secondhand account LIE. This was never said. "Factory representatives suggested we waited 3 to 6 months to see if anything actually surfaced in the unit that would make a noise. IT NEVER DID." We are not lying. He didn't take us seriously as he is proving with underhanded comments. We asked very early on, after the initial suggestion, for him to take it off the concrete slab. We *agreed* with him & still waited for six months. "Only after a mutually agreeable spot for the relocation of the unit was identified, we came and worked and moved the unit at no charge did the Phantom noise stop." That was ALWAYS the request. It wasn't about agreeing, it was about his lack of communication. It took six months to get him to move it and he wants to feel good he didn't charge us? And wait? The 'phantom noise stopped'? So it DID exist? Which one is it? How does he know? "Yelpers should also know that we fronted you the money to buy this unit when you did not have a way to pay because we felt sorry for you not having air-conditioning entering summer. We extended you a line of personal credit until you found a way to pay." The lies are breathtaking. YELPERS SHOULD KNOW HE DIDN'T GIVE US A LINE OF CREDIT NOR DID WE ASK FOR ONE. WE PAID FOR THE UNIT OURSELVES IN ONE PAYMENT! SEE PHOTO. "We understand that you wish to vent your frustrations here but your 14 paragraphs of diatribe designed to try to ruin our reputation with insults are not justly deserved. We didn't suddenly start giving one star service after years of being exceptional. I am extending your labor warranty an additional six months & we will see you in the summer to calibrate the A/C unit back to 100% factory standards as we promised." No thank you. He is unethical & extremely unprofessional. His reply is riddled with lies, is passive aggressive & condescending. I told the truth about *my* experience. That's it. My review is not designed to do anything but honestly inform about that. Not once did he apologize for the issues or runaround. I bought my home this past July and the furnace was 23 years old and the AC unit was 15 so it was nearing time for both systems to be replaced. Bob services my parents' units, so I had him service mine as well. He immediately noticed that my compressor was busted and my fan blower was being way overworked and expressed the importance of upgrading to a new and more efficient system. ROSS PEROT REINCARNATED! Once upon time, there was a political candidate by the name of Ross Perot. The interesting thing about Ross is that he always came prepared and he was known for his charts and pointer. Well, he has been reincarnated in the form of Bob. Bob recently came by to give me an estimate to replace my air conditioning unit. Although I had done my research and had a general idea of what I wanted, I really appreciated the fact that Bob came well prepared with a binder that included his credentials, insurance, and licensing information along with everything you would need to know about air conditioning units. If you don't know, don't worry because he will give you all the information you need to make an informed decision. Personally, I love to see accoutrements, (folders, paperwork, business cards, pens, educational materials etc). That will move you to the top of the list real quick! That aside, Bob was an easy choice for the job because he gave a great presentation, had significant experience working with various companies in the industry and he is the company owner. I felt perfectly comfortable hiring him to do the job. I obviously made a good choice because my home is now comfy and cozy. The guys (fully socialized, pleasant) arrived on time, it was a seamless install that actually took less time than I had anticipated. Josh was one of the technicians who also did some additional work, (moving a vent, addressing an unrelated problem), for a nominal fee and it was greatly appreciated. So, here are the notes: 1. Take your time and ask questions, this is especially important if you are feeling overwhelmed with all of the on line information. 2. Do not focus on the least expensive unit, but the one that is most appropriate for your home and will keep you comfortable. Don't allow price to intimidate you because Bob's pric es werebetter than competitive because he does not have that crazy overhead or unnecessary staff. Bob answers his own phone. 3. We purchased our home in Dec 1984. 15 years ago we replaced our complete Heat and Air system selecting one of the Huge commercial contractors advertising in the greater Atlanta area. We paid right at $10,000 for the system. A lot more in today's dollars. We constantly fought that system. They came out and re engineered the unit twice trying to solve our issues of hot in the summer freezing in the winter. We couldn't balance the house. Finally this year we'd had enough. I found Bob's Heating and Air on line, read Bob's outline of his experience in the business and his reviews. Called for an appointment. Bob was very responsive. We met the next day. I explained our issues and history of disappointments. He asked to walk the entire house to review the system. After a through inspection we met in the family room Bob looked at me and said "Your house isn't breathing" I told him that's what I've been telling the other company for 15 years. Air was not getting back to the Furnace/AC to circulate. Bob went into the basement with his crew. They walked the system, pointed at the ceiling and asked which room was up there. "The Living Room". We went back up into the Living Room to a corner by the hallway behind a 1/3 wall shelf unit. He said I need to cut a 15" hole in your floor right here. My wife of 55 years was a little nervous about having a hole in her hardwood floor. Bob assured us with his decorative sturdy grate we'll never notice it. We haven't, looks like it's always been there. Bob's Heating and Air gutted our system and replaced with their Lennox International system #A96US2V. A total make over. Considerable less than we paid 15 years prior. Our average gas bill during winter months has been $180.00. This last bill, which was our coldest month this year, was $77,00. I had to call Bob and tell him. We've had a house guest every Christmas for 5 years from NC. She always froze sleeping in the upstairs bedroom. She came down from her first night and asked what we'd done with the house she was very comfortable. The entire house is balanced in all rooms. Our home is 50 years old. It's had "That old house smell" for many years. Bob suggested we look into a REME-HALO unit by RGF. An Air Purification System. Two weeks ago Bob installed the Ultra Violet system. In three days of normal usage our home smells fresh as new 24/7. Another big thank you to Bob for his expertise. --- There's more. I've noticed a low base harmonic hum. Down in the garage into a store room we went. I opened the panel. He took one look and said we have a major problem. Turns out the original builder installed a Federal Pacific Electric Circuit Panel known in the industry as "The Fire Box" Bob said we needed to change out the panel as soon as possible. I asked for a recommendation for an Electrician. He suggested a company he's worked with for 15 years. I called, they were out within 48 hours. I researched the FPE company and their losses. On average 2,700 home fires a year directly related to FPE panels. We are having the panel removed Feb. 20th next Wednesday. I'm retired from a Sales and Marketing senior management carrier over 50 years. I know how to judge people. I count Bob as one of the finest most knowledgeable people of his products and industry I've had the pleasure of meeting. He takes the time to fully explain his product and reasoning behind his decisions. He didn't go cookie cutter he designed my system to alleviate my issues of over 15 years of total frustration and wasted energy. I highly recommend Bob's Heating and Air Conditioning. Last year Bob replaced the top floor AC and heater and made some duct upgrades he suggested. It operated so quiet and efficiently we noticed our bills dropped a lot in the last year and we have more air in some former problem areas. As a bonus the new unit didn't keep us awake at night like the old one did which was awesome. They replaced our second system this year just recently. After the results we had with the first new one, we are glad to say good riddance to our 20 year old main floor unit. As great as you want service to be.... Earlier this week we thought we were having problems with our heating service and found Bob through Yelp. He was local and we were hoping he could check it for us. Luckily he had a spot open later that day and stopped by within a few hours. Two for two. About a year ago I had Bob upgrade and replace my furnace and air conditioner on the main level of my house and it works great. The variable speed fan works like a charm, the system is quiet, the media filter and electronic air cleaner works great. So now the upstairs unit needed replacement. Once again, Bob delivered. The attic system was installed perfectly with a new thermostat and also media filter and electronic air purification system. Bottom line is I've got TWO state of the art high efficiency systems professionally installed for about the same money that some companies wanted to charge for ONE system. And for those super-techy folks out there, just TRY to stump Bob about his knowledge of HVAC systems. He worked for decades teaching and training installers how to properly install systems. He knows precisely how to do the job right and his installers do just that. My only gentle criticism is that Bob is a one-man shop so don't expect a whole sales team to show up or a dozen people routing your phone calls. I was not a previous customer of his, but he came out the same day I called to say that my air conditionier wasn't working. Bob refused to return my repeated calls and voice messages for two weeks to replace my HVAC he originally installed four years ago. After repeated repairs and labor bills adding up to more than the cost of a new unit over the years (and failing to correctly diagnose the main problem in the first place) he finally declared the unit dead and said "there's nothing more [he] can do." Although it was still under warranty, it needed a new coil. Bob didn't want to fix it again and I didn't want to keep paying for fixes either. He suggested I contact LG to escalate the issue for an entire new replacement unit. LG refused to grant a replacement, stating that Bob didn't sufficiently troubleshoot when he called in to order parts. I went ahead and bought a brand new unit and called Bob to install the new one. Never returned my calls. Left me hanging. Completely unprofessional. I ended up using A Saylor Heating and Air, who knocked it out in 2 hours. I found Bob on Yelp, and with all of the top notch reviews, I figured he would be great. And he was. Compressor stopped working, He was at the house in about an hour, He had the unit up and running and cleaned at a price I couldn't believe. Beyond that he offered me a lot of advice that would make the house more comfortable. (Things that he doesn't get paid for or have anything to do with). I appreciate that as much as the actual repair. Will keep his number on the fridge, I have a new "hvac guy" and someone that I am happy to share with my family and friends. read more
