So this is pretty hilarious. My custom foam order from another company was delayed and time was ticking for me. I search online if there were any foam places in the Bay Area. Found Bob's and gave them a call. The employee who answered the phone was pleasant and so helpful. I told her I need a certain size for a Halloween costume and she knew right away what would work. She put me on a short hold and said they have something that'll work and it was only $15! It would need to be trimmed but that was completely fine for me. I had them make a custom wedge for a racing seat about a year ago, and it's held up super well!!! So when it came down to restuffing my dining room chairs, I knew I could count on these guys. Be sure to either bring the wood base or the chair so they can custom cut one of three foams so you can find just the right feel, like Goldilocks. After a very poor experience with two other foam companies, one located in Marin another in Palo Alto, I went to Bob's. Boy am I glad I did! The gentleman, one of Bob's sons, who help me gave me the time that I needed to understand the different form options that I had for my DIY sofa, which was a unique design ergonomically. At one point I was concerned that he was selling me a lot of batting, that I wouldn't need. But I ended up trusting him. I was exhausted. He turned out to be RIGHT! The batting was excellent and I needed the amount that he estimated I should purchase. I highly recommend Bob's as a place to buy foam. (It's an industrial shop so a little bit grungy. I was referred here by the 4th upholstery store I'd contacted to replace the foam in my sofa cushions. (Minimum quote $300, would take a week, etc.) An auto upholstery shop told me to call Bob's. I called, they patiently waited as I measured the cushions and I was given a quote that was 20% lower than my lowest bid so far. I drove up, dealt with Bob and (his wife?) who are the nicest, most patient people! They have a 3-cushion sofa right there to demo the 3 densities of foam they carry. I spent a few minutes bouncing around across them, made my choice, and was told they would be ready in 90 minutes! (At the longest - possibly sooner...) Needing to replace the foam for the dining nook seats, I was glad to have found Bob's Foam Factory on Yelp and to see the great reviews from fellow Yelpers. We brought one of our chairs to the shop and was greeted by Rob. Explained our need to get new foam for five chairs, Rob brought out three options and had us sit on them so that we could determine our comfort level with each. After we selected our choice, Rob priced it out with a top layer of batting and we went with it. Rob immediately started cutting the foam, then the batting and adhered the batting to the foam for our five cushions. Rob was very personable and offered advice on upholstering the seats. I needed a case for my imac and brought in a suitcase to have foam added, they advised me to get a pelican case (and they gave me the dimensions to get) instead, which I did and came back. It cost $275 (tax included) to get high quality foam fitted for the iMac, which was a little pricey, but the craftsmanship is superior. They even put in a second layer below for the keyboard, mouse and accessories and a silk like coating for the part that touches the screen, and did it all with in an afternoon! This place is awesome. I came here around 11 AM, talked about the needs of my case, and they went straight to work. The sketching / outline takes a decent amount of time. During their sketching time, I stepped out to lunch and walked around Pacific Commons to kill an hour ish. When I got back, they were in the process of cutting out my foam. They were pretty helpful throughout the whole process. Keep in mind, the foam is all hand cut. It isn't laser cut. With that being said, it's still a pretty good cut out. It aint perfect, but it looks good! I used polylaminate high density foam. This foam is very stable and there is very minimal flex. This is the ultimate foam for cameras, laptops, guns, or anything else that needs the protection. The guys here are awesome, genuine, and honest. read more

Bobs foam does some amazing work. Bob took on a project that blew my expectations! I brought him an empty Stanley equipment storage case and one of my DJ lighting fixtures, then asked him to foam fit it so that I could fit all 6 of my units in there. Took him only a day or so and I received a call to come pick it up. The case was perfect and beyond what I could have imagined. I took it back home and was able to fit every light fixture in there like a glove, snug and safe. Worth every penny though I believe a got away with a steal on this deal. Ask for a tour and you'll see how they bring in the foam planks, create custom templates for each customer's project and then use the big table cutters to create your foam pieces. I brought in a chair cushion that had gotten flattened over the years. We talked to Bob himself, and he agreed he could cut a piece in the size I need, for about $100. Then he suggested another solution: rather than replace the foam, just add a thinner piece of really firm foam about 2" thick, same size. That would be $30.
