"Walking in the wild west end Walking with your wild best…read morefriend" (Dire Straits) We found the West End Farmer's Market behind Farmington Avenue between Clemens Place Apartments and the Mark Twain House. There is excellent signage on Farmington Avenue that leads you to a big lot behind the market. We saw a smallish number of eclectic vendors - a Jamaican food stand, a bakery, a few produce stands, a jewelry stand, an artwork stand, a Hartford Library on Wheels truck, and more. We made two purchases - a Nutella babka from Manchester's Wicked Good Bakes and a Jerk Barbecue Mushroom Patty Panada from Hartford's The Ital Juicery Company. I had an absolute blast at the Ital Juicery stand. They had three generations of charming and delightful women behind the counter. That Patty Panda (sort of a cross between an Empanada and a Jamaican Patty) was a good-sized portion, somewhat justifying the hefty $10 price tag, but the flavor was amazing. Smoky, savory, and spicy, I mean sneaky spicy. Not sure what kind of peppers were in there, but if you told me they were Jamaican Scotch Bonnets I would not be surprised. That afterburn lasted over half an hour. I'll definitely be on the lookout for The Ital Juicery Company when I make the rounds of upcoming Farmer's Markets. As for the West End Farmer's Market, they're open on Tuesdays between June and September from 4pm-7pm. The hours change slightly to 3pm-6pm in October. PRO TIP Five stars for their community service vibe. "The West End Farmers' Market of Hartford believes that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy and delicious food". To that end, they match SNAP/EBT spending, effectively doubling the amount a buyer can use there.

Friendly, knowledgeable and willing to share suggestions with the community. Kind and supportive. Every table I touched was so passionate about what they have grown, or made to offer. To future customers I would like to share don't ever judge a book by its cover. The road work did not stop me. So glad I found my way. From the freshest fruit of the season all the way to the Maple Syrup, Sour Dough. Micheal and his abundant happy herbs, jewelry and soap. The comfrey plants were such a joy to my eyes. Healing through herbs is the way we're supposed to heal. Coexist with the plant kingdom. The community at this market was nothing but love Looking forward to my next return back to CT

In any event, there was a good mix of farm vendors and specialty food vendors like More Pasta Lab, Pan de Oro Chips, Granny's Pie Factory, Ovelle Coffee Roasters and Whisked by Dani. There were at least a couple of food trucks. We bought some cookies, chips, and vegetables. It's definitely a market worth checking out if you're in the general Wethersfield area. 4 Stars

It was very manageably sized, with plenty of vendors, but not enough to make our visit unmanageable. We strolled the grounds, taking in the sites, and enjoying the live music being performed. With vendors selling a wonderful variety of Fruits, Vegetables, Meats, Dairy, Flowers, salsas, chips, baked goods, Italian ice, cheese, coffee, and pasta, you could easily plan a week's worth of meals right here. If you want pizza, there was a Square Peg Pizza truck on site. Oh, and let's not forget the dozen artisans and craftsmen showing off their hand made creations everywhere. And here's something you don't see at a lot of Farmers Markets - a massage station! We stopped at Whisked By Dani's booth and treated ourselves to two gigantic cookies, then we stopped at the Pan de Oro Chips and Salsa booth and guess what? We picked up a big bag of Mexican Street Corn flavored tortilla chips and two very reasonably priced jars of salsa (just $4 each). The Wethersfield Farmers Market's season ran from May 30, 2024, through October 10, 2024, on Thursdays from 3pm-6pm, so sadly they are done for the year. See you there next May.

There happened to be a bunch of info tents for local business and sports as well as Boy Scouts and other groups having fundraisers. The actual farmers market was very small sadly- two farms, a bakery stand and someone selling gems and playing guitar. The farm options met my needs and I got some goodies but was disappointed there was so little. On the bright side it was cool that I could buy some palo santo and a quartz crystal.

This review is based on a visit on a Thursday afternoon; the market is open on both Thursdays (from 3pm to 6pm) and Saturdays (9am to 1pm) from mid-June through October. I was doing errands in the area and saw signs all over, so I decided to check it out. Saturdays must be the more popular and busy day, as there were only two vendors when I stopped on a Thursday. There was a local farm and a local florist. I thought that maybe I had missed it as there were only these two, but I knew it was the market by a replica sign to the street signs near the two tents set up on a small green strip in the middle of the parking lot square. The farm had a wide array of fruits and vegetables, with sweet smells--particularly from the peaches--wafting through the air. They had a great supply and selection. The florist, Jenny's Flowers (seasonal fresh cut flowers from East Windsor), was extremely kind and had unique floral arrangements. I purchased two dahlia flowers for $3 each, both of which came with their own glass mason jars. It seemed to be a reasonable price, especially as I could keep the jars. I have never seen a dahlia in person before, and the ones Jenny's Flowers had were absolutely gorgeous. The colors and varieties were beautiful. She had other types of flowers as well including multi-type flower bouquets and sunflowers. I asked how to care for the dahlias, and she gave me good, helpful instructions. Though I was very pleased with my flowers (and I did not need any produce), I am surprised there were not more vendors and a wider range of products. The website for this farmers market boasts many more vendors and a wider range of goods than I saw. I may make a trip back on another Saturday, as this must be the day that all (or at least more) vendors are there. I really like the setting this market is in, and it has really great possibilities.
