Crossfitters are especially welcomed with open arms. Our tournaments also have other events, but Sparring is the only reason to come watch or participate. Black Belt Status Required to be taught by Master Lawrence. Our staff is great when they aren't being bullied, badgered, or other wised abused by the progenitor of the school. You will be responsible to pay for any and all testing fees, equipment, and uniforms outside your monthly contract. Your monthly contract only guarantees payment for us and doesn't necessarily obligate us to anything outside the place of business. My son started in the basic training program at Bobby Lawrence Karate, in Spanish Fork, right after turning 5. We started with the one on one trial course and were very impressed. We love how they teach the kids confidence, focus, respect, self discipline, along with self defense. And they really encourage the students and teach them to cheer on their classmates. We have definitely seen improvements for our son and at his one year mark we committed to 2 more years and upgraded to the black belt training program. The teachers are great and give each student enough attention to make sure they are learning the skills! I also really like the flexibility of class schedule, there are 5 days a week to choose from and you can pick and choose the days you attend, 2 times a week. They had a parent day that I attended to learn more on how to help my child improve and I was impressed enough to enroll in karate myself. Do not enroll your child in this school! We took our son to his first 2 private lessons and it was night and day different than regular classes. They group the kids together by age instead of belts. So a new white belt student is in the same class as the kids that have been going there for a long time and are many belts ahead. And the class sizes range from 10 to 30 students. It's great if it's a class size of 10 & the kids have a lot of attention, but when there are 25-30 kids in the class there's no way that all of the kids can learn. Also, DO NOT sign a contract unless you are 100% sure. Our son ended up struggling with some health problems and I hoped the owner/teacher would be understanding of our situation & do the right thing & refund our money (we had just barely signed the contract the week before) but he didn't have any empathy for our situation & wouldn't refund our money. We have no respect for him or how he does business. read more

We have had such a great experience with BLK. My son has ADHD, so focus is very difficult for him and when he started having problems in school, I began therapy for him, which was nice, but very expensive. When I was introduced to BLK, I was impressed by the life skills- focus, respect, confidence- that they teach. I found that he could learn the same lessons he was learning in therapy, but in a fun way that also gave him an opportunity to exercise and develop leadership skills. They also teach the kids to listen to their parents, teachers and leaders, clean their rooms, eat healthy and be a responsible member of society- all things I am trying to teach him at home. He LOVES going and when he acts out, I ask him if he wants to get his next belt up and he usually snaps out of it and listens to me. I offer tons of reinforcement for how great he's doing so it's been a real help for his self esteem. Everything a mom wants for her son. :) read more

I signed my son up for Basic Karate lessons five years ago. He has ADHD and I heard Karate would be good for him. Right from the get go I was super impressed with Mr. Michael Brooks. He was really great with the kids and my son loved Karate. Then I met Ms Haley Brooks, Co Owner and wife to Mr. Brooks. She is as awesome as he is being a black belt herself! We have since upgraded to the Black Belt Leadership program. My son loves learning double nun-chucks and the Kamas along with sparring, short sticks, and the bo staff. They also teach life skills of honesty, integrity, and loyalty. I love this even more than the Karate. I love how much his self confidence has grown. I love asking my son to show his kicks for friends and family, they are always amazed by how high he can kick. My daughters love asking him to show his skills to young men they are interested in, it's a great icebreaker and make my son feel really cool. read more

Couldn't have found a better situation. Besides the great location, prices and convenient hours. They are great with kids, communications and do above an beyond with organization. We have only had positive experiences with my son beginning his karate experience. Since day 1 he has progressed in his self confidence and work ethic when we, as a family, were running out of ideas to help guide his ADHD. My son feels welcomed by all and is connecting to this community better than any sports team we have been involved in over the years. We enrolled my 2nd grade daughter in karate at Bobby Lawrence earlier this spring. Michael (owner) is clearly passionate about what he does and works so well with the kids. He's supportive and motivating while also communicating what he expects from the kids in and out of class. My daughter often resists going (as most kids do with commitments) but has fun once she's here! They're great at integrating play and fun with the skills they're learning. It's a bit of a commitment to sign up as it is contract based, but I appreciate the added commitment this requires and what that alone teaches the kids. I have both of my kids enrolled at the Bobby Lawrence Karate dojo in Spanish Fork. This has been a wise choice for both of them for different reasons. I can't say enough about this karate studio! I had my son join to help build his confidence, but he is learning so much more than just confidence! They teach good morals & values, leadership, and defensive techniques in addition to karate. The instructors are encouraging, kind, and a real anchor for these kiddos. After a little while, I even joined karate and have loved the benefits of strength training and knowing self defense. We enrolled our son about a year ago, and it has been great for him. He has learned focus, respect, confidence, and some cool karate moves too! It has done so much for him that we decided to enroll as well in the adult class. Training with Mr. Brooks has been excellent. Not only is it intense exercise, but we're learning self-defense and increasing our own confidence. Our 6-yr-old son loves how strong he is getting. Over the last couple years he's really loved developing his strength and confidence through taking karate classes.
