AMYS Martial Arts

AMYS Martial Arts

My two kids and I have been with AMYS Martial Arts for more than a decade now. My teenager and I…read moreboth earned our black belts in 2021 and my 10yo will be testing for his in a month. To say my kids have grown up with the Moras sisters would be an understatement. They've helped shape their personalities in ways that only amazing role models can do (especially when kids don't want to listen to their parents). Taekwondo has helped my teenager maintain agility and flexibility as he has devoted more of his time to soccer and running. This kind of cross-training has helped him avoid injuries as his grows. This is all in addition to how much it's helped him with focus and discipline. Preparing for his black belt test was a massive lesson in perseverance! As for myself. Just before I turned 40, I started joining my kids in the Saturday morning family class just to get some kind of regular workout going again after my years having babies. I had no intention of testing for belts, I just wanted the workouts. 6 months later that evolved into bi-weekly adult classes, belt tests, and learning curriculum along with my son. I saw an increase in my own strength, agility, flexibility, and stamina. I love how every workout is different. Attending as many online classes as I could helped us all get thru the Covid lockdown too. It's been 10 years now and I still look forward to my morning mom classes and I'm excited to see my youngest son test for his black belt in a month.

Students don't just learn, they experience positive personal growth and responsibility. I was very impressed by the conduct of his classes and the great respect that students and parents both have for him. Patient and hard work or instilled in students from an early age. I highly recommend this dojo.

US Taekwondo was recommended to me when I was looking for a positive outlet for my daughter who…read morewanted to be a ninja. I was a single Mom at the time, looking for an activity that would also teach my daughter good values. I enrolled her for her 5th birthday and ended up enrolling myself too. I really appreciate that I can attend adult class and my daughter can attend a children's class of her belt level. But we can also attend family class together on different days. I don't know of many sports where children and parents can have this time and learning together. It's very special to us. Now my whole family is enrolled at US Taekwondo including my 4 year old son. We can't say enough about how much Master Kim has meant to our family. He is an excellent and patient instructor. His prices are lower than many other studios with several no contract payment options, which is very uncommon in martial arts schools in this area. He is accredited through the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Federation headquarters in Seoul, Korea), not just the US one. He majored in Taekwondo education at University in Korea and was the national champion in South Korea for several years. I can't believe we have access to such quality TKD instruction in UT! I also appreciate that Master Kim takes the time to get to know children and their parents (whether students or not) and work with each person holistically. He assists and simultaneously works on issues with my children when I share those with him. I want my children to earn black belts, but without character development it would mean little. Master Kim and his instructors teach the same values in every single class such as respect, self-control, perseverance, and discipline. I find that TKD is excellent for the the whole family by providing exercise, quality family time, and reinforces our Christian values. Having trained at US Taekwondo for about a year and half, I can say that we feel like Master Kim and his family are family to us. We have gotten to know many of the other children and parents and it has become a fun, loving, and supportive community. We look forward to the annual BBQ and Christmas parties to spend time with everyone. I highly recommend US Taekwondo to individuals of all ages!!!

They have a shiny facade, with a rotten core…read more While they show off the trophies, newspaper mentions, and boast about their lengthy history, it's actually hiding a group of people that aren't all that invested in people now that they've made enough money. During the summer camp they offer, if your child doesn't bring enough water, they either make you pay for it, refuse the child water, or make them drink from the bathroom sink. (The drinking fountain they have by the bathroom is actually broken, but they don't tell you that when you tour.) They also let employees work on site before they have gotten the fingerprint check back, which is just dangerous, and illegal. The might be skilled in martial arts, but they only thing on their mind now is the money you give them.

Once you disenroll those special deals went away and any merchandise you bought from them will not be given along with reimbursements for private lessons that were not used. I tried multiple times to get in touch about a pair of shorts that was ordered before we left and not even so much as a response. I had to do a charge back with my bank to get my money refunded. Their response to that charge back was a lame apology. Stating sorry for not following through. My bank accidently did two chargebacks. One for an item I actually did receive and Amy's was calling, leaving voice messages, texts and sending emails all within 5 minutes of each other because they were due money. Otherwise when asking them a simple question about a reimbursement to me they don't even bother to respond. Same situation as the shorts. Long story short as long as you are paying them money they communicate well but if you are no longer paying them money they don't care about you or your questions. Keep the money. Your true colors really shined through.
