New to the area and needed my roots done with gray coverage and a plan for transition back to blonde. Stylist told me she would do my roots a shade lighter and then tone and blend in, plus cut. On my initial visit the hot water was out and I thought it was a fluke. Six weeks later I go back for a second appointment and tell my stylist that the light color did not blend with the rest of my hair and needed to be fixed. She tells me she'll tone it. She puts color in my hair, set me by the wash station and left me there for an hour while she did somebody else's hair. When she came back, she apologized and said the hot water was out again. So I got another cold hair wash, she dry it, and the color was not blended and I ended up with light roots and dark hair. I ended up having to go to somebody else for a color correct because not only where the root slider than the rest of my hair and not blended, the roots weren't even consistently colored, spots missed, gray not covered. These pictures were taken seven days after the color appointment. I won't be back, I paid $200 for the most experienced colorist on Staff and what I got was bad color with cold water. read more

I'm here to write about the amazing Emma!! I was a bit of a mess when I arrived; full transparency-an hour earlier I had been laid off from a job I loved... my hair was a mess, I was not at my best and then here came Emma with her positive energy, big smile and fresh approach to the day! She made me feel instantly comfortable and we chatted about my hair and I just gave her "fun n funky, short" as my suggestions. A few pics as examples and off we went for a fabulous shampoo with her magic fingers. I sat back in the chair, closed my eyes and as she begun working her magic I sat silently sad with tears running down my face. Emma never missed a beat-she handed me a tissue, a kind pat on the shoulder, and back to work she went. She finished styling my hair and when I looked in the mirror I saw a new woman with a kicka$$ haircut!!! I was able to book a same day appointment with JoJo in the afternoon and not only was she on time, but she was early! This is something I VERY much appreciate due to my schedule. She explained the differences in the pictures I showed her and asked which is more to my taste. So sad to leave Indy and this salon! Definitely pricy, but I think the service and attention to detail is reflected in the steeper price tag. I've always been one the splurge on hair (vs clothing/makeup) because my hair is naturally a bird's nest, so I may be more immune to higher costs and less likely to get sticker shock. My friend recommended that I go to Megan, who is a gem! Friendly and super easy to talk to, and great with color! First time I went was early 2019, and have been regularly going in for touch ups and cuts ever since. I have thicker hair too, and she has been super patient and detail oriented to make sure the color (mostly light and dark Browns for me) is evenly distributed and looks seamless. Definitely recommend, but as you can probably tell from the other reviews - doesn't exactly come cheap! My tip would be to try it out once, at least, and to treat yourself! Home salons are hard to find, and I'm glad to have tried this one out while I was in Indy! read more

Ohhhhh how I love Bobby Cooper Salon!! I primarily work with Abby (and sometimes Ping!) and literally have never had my hair done better in my life. (For reference -- I've lived in 4 states and have to get my hair done every 6-8 weeks so trust me when I say I've done the leg work on good and bad salons. ;) ) To the naysayers who have said that it's a bit pricey, yes - it is - but you get what you pay for. A year ago, I called this salon asking for an experienced stylist to help me go gray. I met with Lauren, who assured me she could do this in 6-8 hours at $100 an hour. It actually took 12 hours and yes, I was still charged $100 an hour. I paid the $1200 plus a cash tip. I was kind and never questioned the process. Before I left I noticed some blonde and she said to come back in a few days, which I did. My hair was stripped of color again and recolored. When I left, it looked great. But I had no idea all the damage of all the processing of nearly 20 hours in two days would do to my hair. I texted Lauren a week or so later telling her my hair was super brittle and she recommended a product. She never followed up to see how it was coming along, never offered a conditioning treatment, etc. The owner, Bobby, was also aware and even helped color my hair on day 2. Again, I was never angry or mad during the 20 hours. But they never explained anything to me, and now I realize they were trying to correct a really bad mistake. I never received instructions on how to take care of my hair after so much bleaching and coloring. Now, a year later, I have learned how to keep my hair as healthy as possible. I have just a couple inches left of the damaged hair. I never realized until looking back how much damage was done and how they did not care. I paid them a total of about $1500... which has then cost me more and more in product after product to keep my hair from breaking off. The lack of professionalism is disheartening to me. I trusted them for a service, never questioned their process, and now I see all they wanted was my money. read more

New to Indy so I needed to find a hair salon. I usually only go 2-3 times a year for a cut. The salon is super cute inside. Love the decor and friendly staff! I was underwhelmed by my service though, even though my stylist was really nice. My hair wasn't completely blown out after and I had to ask for the hair underneath to be blown out more, still doesn't feel like the salon quality blow out that i look forward to after a haircut. I was also a little put off by them adding 20% gratuity automatically. Kinda awkward to say if you wanted to tip a different amount when the person styling your hair is the one checking you out. I had to actually go over my entire head, especially underneath, with a straightener when I got home. It felt more like a Supercuts haircut but at a salon-price. Will be looking for recommendations for a different salon next time. FYI they have a yelp check-in offer for a free treatment (I think some sort of keratin) but when I showed the front desk they said they don't offer that specific one anymore but could do something different. Then was told that they normally charge $350 instead of $200 and yes her hair looks nice but not exactly like the picture she took in with her. I stand by my previous review in terms of my satisfaction with my hair and the level of customer service that John Mark provides. However, I wanted to add to Mindy H.'s experience regarding the bumped appointment. This also occurred to me about 2 weeks ago - although the salon did call a few hours in advance to tell me that they were "accidentally overbooked" (after confirming 2 days earlier). I had an important presentation for work later in the week, so I scheduled a bang trim for the next day. To accommodate their mistake and hold me over for two weeks, I was asked to PAY $20! I explained to the receptionist that this was not acceptable customer service, and after consulting with someone else, I was told that I did not need to pay. If I didn't love the way John Mark cuts my hair, I probably would not go back. read more

As others have commented, I take my hair seriously. If my hair doesn't look good, nothing else does. Therefore, living 90 minutes away is not an imposition for me if the service is excellent. First of all, the salon is beautiful, high end establishment. The employees there have a tendency to take themselves a little too seriously, thinking that being aloof is synonoymous for upscale. A smile and acknowlegment would be nice. The line of hair products, Oribe to mention one, is fantastic. I am a fan. What I am not a fan of is that I feel, due to my demographic group, I was somewhat dismissed. One appointment I waited over 30 minutes before the stylist came out and saw I was there. I did, on several occassions try to catch the eye of the two receptionists behind the counter to no avail. Also, I felt hurried through. Even though highlights took forever (which is fine) the shampoo, base bump, and styling were rush. Extra add-ons were put on my bill that I did not authorize, such as a Kerataise treatment for $30.00. I still do not know when that took place unless it is similiar to a minute conditioner. My bill on average was $200+, not including the tip. The color was fantastic, the cut varied and it was never styled to my satisfaction with most of the time leaving the salon with it slightly damp. My take is that their market is for the professional 20-30 age group. While I am mildly satisfied, it is not worth the time (3 hours round trip), gasoline and expense. As for the reference (in another post) about the massage chairs - they never were in working order. read more

I needed a new stylist because my former moved out of state. I was pretty nervous and weary to try a new stylist but was absolutely delighted by the stylist I chose, Hannah. Even at 8am she was energetic, engaging, and focused on the getting the best result. The salon is top-quality, no doubt about it, but the effort made by the stylists to connect with their clients is the best part of it all (besides walking out with your freshest look). After my first appointment with Lauren, my search for a new stylist was over. She is fantastic and takes great care of her clients. What I love about Lauren is her creativity and honesty. I can take any idea to her and she has always exceeded my expectations with a look I love! I completely trust her with my hair. The salon itself is absolutely gorgeous and so is the staff. I made the decision to schedule an appointment with John Mark at Bobby Cooper Salon based on a few yelp reviews, despite the fact that at the time the salon had a horribly outdated website without even a mention of John Mark as a stylist (the website has since been updated). I could not have been more happy with my decision. Every time that I visit, John confidently makes recommendations on what would look good. I simply trust him and let him do his thing. It is so difficult to find a stylist that really knows how to cut men's hair, but every time I leave John I love my hair! As long as I live in Bloomington, I will continue to make the 1.5 hour drive to Broad Ripple to get my hair cut by John Mark. read more

I absolutely LOVE the Bobby Cooper salon. I'm so happy I found a great salon, close to home, with such a nice environment. I only have Ping touch my hair and I've NEVER been disappointed. The first time I went I went for a simple style and low bun, it came out beautiful and I received so many compliments on it. The second time was a big one. I had very long hair all the way to my butt, and decided I needed to go in a new direction. I almost cried in Ping's chair as she cut my hair. It takes a SPECIAL KIND OF WOMAN and an AMAZING SALON, to cut my long hair to right below my shoulders and make me fall in love with short hair. I loved it. Products smelled amazing, the cut was so precise, minimal heat usage, ugh...just go here! A wash, haircut, and style cost me $55. I have found my new salon and I'm so satisfied with it. read more

Quality and dependability! Sounds like a neighborhood store commercial, but I take my hair very seriously. If you're willing to pay a premium price for a premium haircut, I highly recommend this salon. They're open until 8pm, which helps if your schedule is rigidly set. If you want to see the owner, Bobby Cooper, you'll have to reserve 5 months in advance! But I perused the profiles of the stylists online and chose Josie Curry, who did a fantastic job. She was fun, and open and honest about what she thought would do best with my hair. Direct AND good technique are hard to find in this business, so I'm definitely going back to her. Plus: they have massage chairs for while you have your hair shampoo-ed, and the display a boutique of high-end brand names like Tom Ford sunglasses and a few other boutique items. read more

Grateful to my sister for referring me to Lauren. She meticulously tends to my blonde highlights and I trust her implicitly. The cost is higher than what I paid at nice salons in Chicago (!!!) so don't expect inexpensive pricing. However, you will be so well cared for and the staff here are trained as well as anywhere in the world. I've also seen other stylists for cuts and blowouts when I couldn't get into the very highly booked Lauren, and I've been pleased with her colleagues as well. For a salon to claim Medallion status doesn't mean that all the stylist are exceptional. All the patrons in the salon had long hair. Been once, and once was enough. Maybe I just didn't have the right hair stylist, but I was so disappointed in the quality of work! I walked in and I felt like "Yes, this is going to be amazing, this is the place for me to find my home salon in Indy, finally." And I left thinking "I paid $250 for this?". I mean the cut was blah, the color was blah, the experience was blah... "Um, hello I am paying you $250 my hair better look as amazing as it does when I pay $250 at my salon in California that big stars like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt go to." I walked out of there wondering if I literally paid $250 for her to brush my hair and trim 1/8 of an inch of the bottom layer. I am not one to make a scene unless the situation really calls for it, so I just gracious paid the bill and left and never came back. BTW I found the John Perry Salon, and not only are they less expensive, the service and the quality of work is much better. So I suggest, SKIP this place and CALL JOHN PERRY! read more

I like the fact that I can see anyone at the salon and get the same consistent excellent hair because Bobby trains everyone (and the salon does continuing education days on their days off). If you see it in a magazine, Bobby has already trained the stylists on how to create the look. I travel all over the world -including London, NYC, LA- and always get asked where I get my hair done (and always get a surprised look when I tell them Indianapolis). Recently as I was walking in NYC a women stopped me and asked if she could take my photo because she loved my hair color and wanted to show it to her NYC stylist! Worst salon experience. I left with color that was no where near what I asked...and there really was no change...only to be charged over $200. She didn't even touch my roots...it was awful. I called to say I wasn't happy and was assured that it was a miscommunication and she's a "great stylist" and to come in for her to fix it. I came in per my appt a couple days later, only for the stylist to tell me she didn't want to charge me for highlights again so she acted like she didn't know what to do. Long story short, she literally would not do anything when I came in (mind you, I drive 45 minutes there)..and said she'd redo it after a week to not damage it. I was already a blonde when I first came there! Excuses, excuses! So I make an appt to go back after a week and she literally did nothing AGAIN. She put these wimpy TINY highlights barely in the front (again, nowhere near what I asked for)...AND STILL DIDN'T TOUCH MY ROOTS!! She seems extremely unconfident in her work...did not listen to anything I wanted (I said bright and bold, yet she did super tiny and bland)...it was such a joke. I do not recommend this salon to anyone unless you already go there and have a good stylist. The stylist work there is not consistent..and for those who have never been there..it really stinks to be paired up with this stylist, only to have a bad experience, when it could have been better with another stylist. If this is a high end salon...have all high end stylists that are confident and bold in their work..not timid and immature. read more

It's scary finding a new stylist. Luckily, I have found a stylist and salon that are top-notch! The Bobby Cooper Salon in Broad Ripple is a classy salon with a number of stylists to suite your needs. Receptionists that greet you warmly, offer you a drink while you wait and a wall full of exquisite products can occupy your time should you arrive early. Although I can't speak for all of the stylists, if you're unsure where to start...ask for David. Great guy with a good sense of style and who understands his clients needs. This place is the WORST! I made an appointment for a color at this salon, specifically requesting "chunky blonde highlights". I left with a really drab looking, monochromatic brown. My stylist tried to convince me that the non-existent highlights were there, stating that I would be able to see them better in "natural sunlight" and that they were just "well blended". The invisible highlights cost me nearly $200. I left, but phoned the salon later and made an appointment to return and have it fixed. After my touch-up appointment, they presented me with a bill for an additional $70. I explained that it must be a mistake....I was unsatisfied with my initial visit....that I shouldn't be charged again. The girl disappeared into the back room, returned and said that "per the owner's wife", I had to pay the $70. The worst part, you ask? I still do not have highlights! read more
