This review is for the service department. Double negative stars if possible. I purchased my Mini in February 2017.  I went for my initial maintenance service as the light for the service engine went on.  After few months on not seeing the service engine light, I took my car for the second service.  Nicole, Nichols the service advisor checked records on the computer, stated that I my car had been overdue.  I said I am not aware because I did not see the light go on.  She said there are "other ways" to see that the car is due for service.  She showed where to see it - apparently, when you turn your engine on a very (very, very) brief image of negative miles and a date of when to go for service.  Nicole herself noticed that the date on the brief notification is May 2017, meaning the very first maintenance service done was not even recorded.  Nicole said a reset was probably not done on the first service.  She suggested an oil filter clean up of some sort (worth nearly $300) due to the fact that I had been overdue but I have to pay because it is outside warranty.  Worried for my vehicle, I agreed. When I asked the same day what time I could pick up my car, I was told that it had to stay at the shop due to the fact that the service light is malfunctioning and the tech is not able to fix it until the next day.  With this information, it dawned on me that there clearly was a reason why the light did not go on which unfortunately had me lose track leading to an over due oil change.  I asked for the almost $300 procedure suggested to be waived since it seems that there had been an error on their part in resetting necessary buttons for the service light. Nicole "explained" that it cannot be waived due to the fact that I was overdue.  She talked over me most of the times and had insisted that it was my responsibility to bring the car for service.  I asked for her to take it to management for consideration. The next day, Nicole called, informing me that the car is ready and that she spoke with the service manager Tony Hawkins that they can only do 20% discount from the amount of the oil filter clean up.  They are capitalizing on the fact that I was overdue for the service but clearly, they did not acknowledge that there was an error on their part from the first service done. With Nicole's reasoning, Mini should have it in bold letters in their user manual to stare at the dashboard and read the notification that just appears in a nanosecond, to know if your car is due for service since it doesn't seem that the light is expected.  Funny how such basic car feature that did not show appeared nothing to them.  It's not like I was expecting my car to perform extraordinary things.  I was just expecting the service light engine on to go off when it's due, and it did not since they FAILED to reset it from the first service. So there, I paid them for their recommended service that could have been avoided if only they did not make an error from the initial service. My concerns didn't matter to them.  After all, I am just one unhappy customer.  They know they wouldn't lose business just because they had upset a customer like me. read more

Went in with my fiancé to look at a car she wanted and we ended up with the car, but not before dealing with some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. The entire time we were there the manager, Chris, was very condescending and kept saying "we didn't need to take the car" and insinuating we could leave whenever we had a question about the car that required an actual answer. I don't understand how you can be a manager there and treat customers as though their business means nothing to you. The entire time he made us feel like we were somehow lucky to be there and as though we could not even afford the car. Robert was a great salesperson but he was also very slow in making this deal happen. Since we did not even negotiate the price of the car I don't know how it could have possibly taken 5 hours to get us out of there. The only saving grace was our finance person who got us out of there quickly once we sat in his office to sign paperwork. Overall it's probably what you'd expect at most dealerships, but I'm sure there's other ones out there that won't make you wait 5 hours to get out of there when you didn't negotiate the price of the car. We were told she qualified for the loan within the first hour and still waited 5 somehow. If my fiancé did not want the car I honestly would have taken Chris' suggestion and just left after the way they were with us. read more

They lied to me about having a terrible CAT, they even showed me pictures. Keep in mind, I bought my JCW Pro exhaust from them and had them tune my car barely a year ago. They said it needed to be replaced right away and warranty wouldn't cover cost because they said the damage was caused by "outside influence" ...According to them I messed my CAT and O2 sensors up..... Today I take my car to a friends shop, changing my own oil and out of curiosity dropped the exhaust to look at both CATs,...both my primary and secondary CATs,...they are both in MINT condition. They lied to me in order for me to purchase a new CAT and sensors., but not everyone's stupid. NEVER going there again. read more

I went it for a new battery for my MINI Cooper and was shown that my front two tires were falling apart. Cool, I'll get them changed and was told by Sal that an alignment would be $50, so I opted for that as well. The bill comes and I'm charged $330 for the alignment. After dealing with Jannie on the phone, I got a $70 discount which means that I'm still paying significantly more than what I was quoted at. Not satisfied at all with pricing and blatantly being lied to regarding it. If possible, avoid the service center. This is highway robbery. Edit: when i went to pick up my car, Jannie wasn't there even though I had told to her expect me. This leads me to believe that she was avoiding me during the last portion of the process, which is both frustrating, disappointing, and unprofessional. Edit 2: Although Bob Smith replying seems helpful and caring, after I sent them an email stating my frustrations and the situation as a whole, I received no response. This means that them looking like they care is all for show. read more

I brought my fiancee's mini in for service a few months back. Now the insurance says they need a copy of the service record, that I don't have. I call 3 times and I am given the run around by the ladies that work there. I'm told that only one person can provide the info I need and they are at lunch. I call back later and now they are out until Friday! Meanwhile, the insurance is still calling me. Finally, I talk to Fernando Narvaez. I'm so annoyed at Bob Smith they are dishonest and liars!!! I bought my car there in 2015. Every time I brought it in for service, I would ask about my trim being stained and My windshield being stained. Even though I was under warranty when I brought this up they never offered to change it out. I bet you won't even find it in their records. I pointed it out to the service center every time I went in when picking up my car about the trim stains and the stain you left on my windshield. I am beyond furious because I have now moved to another state and am now finding out that when I had my check engine light serviced here, they quoted me 6k for an emissions error code fixes. NEVER MENTIONING THAT IT WAS COVERED BY THE CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS COVERAGE AND THE FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY. They never even mentioned it to me. You are a certified mini tech. You should be ashamed!!! You didn't want to spend any money on my car even when it was under warranty. Honestly so annoyed. I can't believe I waited this long to leave a review. And the fact I needed to MOVE STATES to get that information from a local mechanic is DISGUSTING. I SHOULD HAVE DONE MY OWN RESEARCH BUT I TRUSTED YOU GUYS TO GIVE ME THE BEST ACCURATE INFO. NEVER AGAIN. The trim stains is a common issue and you said there was nothing you could do and it's wasn't covered by my warranty WHICH WAS A LIE!!! Recently, with 20 minutes to spend, we stopped in to Bob Smith MINI to check out the models and options. The young salesman who was "up" had great enthusiasm for his products, and graciously answered our questions / showed us around the various models. I didn't think Bob Smith Mini could top my last excellent experience of buying a car, but thanks To Miki Forgo, it was even better than the first!! Since the pandemic began, getting goods to the US has been difficult, and back in September Miki suggested I order a new MINI to get the exact car I wanted. With his help, I ordered the JCW MINI convertible that I wanted. My lease was up in February 2022 on the Mini I had. Miki kept me up on production, shipping and delivery. He even gave me a website to track the cargo vessel carrying my car from Belgium to Port Hueneme! That was pretty cool to see where the car was in real time. Miki let me know once the car was delivered to the dealership and made the process extremely easy. It was the easiest, smoothest car-buying experience I have ever had! I bought a Mini here and brought it in to be serviced on 6/15/23. I was told I needed two tires replaced, as they were worn out. I chose not to buy tires that day and when I brought my car to a tire store today (8/23/23), I was told all my tires were fine and didn't need to be replaced. The positive is my service agent was lovely to work with. I also appreciate the fact they provided an Uber to get me home, and that they washed my car. Those things aside, I can always rely on the service department to provide me with some degree of frustration every time I visit them. I'm tired of going there and having the same predictable experience each time, so going forward I will happily travel out of my way to another dealer for any future service needs. The background for this decision is based on the experiences I've had with them on multiple different visits to service both an older model mini and a new mini. I had originally stopped going to Bob Smith Mini for any service needs in connection with my older mini because of a situation wherein they incorrectly diagnosed an issue, more than once, then charged a ridiculous amount to 'fix' said issue each time. One of the suggestions they had when it was clear they couldn't fix the problem was that I should carry around oil with me and just keep topping it off... I ultimately had the issue properly diagnosed and repaired by another dealer. Based on the assessment of that other dealer, this service department had not only incorrectly diagnosed the problem (which was apparently not terribly difficult to identify) multiple times, they had 'repaired' things that didn't need repairing, and also overcharged me in the process. Unfortunately, that trusted dealer is no longer available so I returned to Bob Smith Mini again when I was having an issue with an odd odor inside my new mini, which is under warranty. After quite a bit of runaround and several dismissals/refusals to help, they finally agreed to replace the cabin air filter. As expected, that fixed the issue, but it was a ridiculous amount of effort to get them to assist. I don't know if this reluctance to assist was because I didn't purchase the vehicle from them or what, but it's frustrating to have to argue to get assistance on a vehicle which is under warranty and covered by an extended service plan. Today I brought my older car in to have the battery checked and ended up with a diagnosis that my car requires several thousand dollars worth of 'repairs'. I have no confidence in these people. It's as if they are hoping the consumers who visit them don't know anything about vehicles so they can try and sell them things they don't need, and then do so at inflated prices. My service agent didn't even seem surprised when I shared with her my skepticism of their findings based on prior experiences. I advised her I would need to get a second opinion versus just having them do the work. Then, at pickup I was charged almost $200 for running a diagnostic on my battery. It would've been helpful if it was clearly explained at the time I dropped off the vehicle that the charge would apply regardless of if any actual repair work was done. My bad for not properly understanding, but seriously...$200 for a diagnostic? Not surprisingly, the mother and daughter at the service desk next to me seemed to be undergoing the same 'surprise' experience I've come to expect when visiting their service department... read more

They left the decisions up to me but they really had my best interest in mind. They made the entire transaction extremely easy and pain-free. Just had my first service at Bob Smith Mini. I live 70 miles away so I was a bit concerned when I arrived and was told my appointment had not been saved in their system. Matt in Service Reception took away any misgivings I was feeling, fixed all quickly and with a smile. While waiting for my rental I received a text from my Service Advisor, Matthew Bull who apologized for the confusion with my appointment, spoke to what needed to be done and then told me the warranty was in the previous owners name, so I unfortunately did not have warranty coverage. I called Matthew who answered his phone right away and told me he would speak to the finance department and see what was going on. I knew that things would be resolved but I was surprised at how quickly Matthew got back to me with the good news that he had taken care of everything and all was fine. Worst experience I have ever had at any dealership. When I purchased the car I was told my plates would come in 4-6 weeks- they did not. Apparently the DMV changed some of the information requirements so the folks at Bob Smith took more than a month to ask for my VIN (which makes no sense to me as I would think they would have those records on the cars that they sell.) I am and was confused as to how a company of this size was so behind the ball on DMV policies. I also ended up getting a ticket for not having plates because of their inability to be on top of things. When I bought the car I added on a slew of additional warranties- I simply have no interest in investing my time into handling the logistics of maintaining the car. I happily paid extra money to avoid any hassles, I made it very clear to the sales team member who was up selling me that I was buying convenience. She informed me that run flat tires could not be patched and cost $650 to replace. I had not owned a car with this type of tire prior to my Mini and accepted that information as being true. I distinctly remember having a discussion around all the construction materials littering the streets of the city, based on the price point I was quoted it made sense to opt in. When I got a slow leak in one of my tires caused by a screw a few weeks ago, I reached out to the team at Bob Smith. First I left a message on a VM that their in house operator sent me to, no one returned that call. When I called back I was directed to the Sales Manager (Chris?) when I expressed my displeasure of having to call multiple times for what I consider simple information. As wonderful, warm, and courteous as he was; this manager was unable to locate the information I was after on our first call (the steps to replace a flat under warranty). I was surprised at the lack of internal organizational structure around such a basic component as warranties. He called me back the same day and told me that the tire was covered and to simply make an appointment with the service department. I did just that and brought my car in. Nicole, my service advisor was lovely to deal with- however again she was unable to quickly find the information about my warranty. She later called to inform me that the tire was not covered under any of the multitude of warranties I purchased and that the tire could be replaced for less than half of the price I was quoted by the sales associate which for me was the tipping point when it came to purchasing the add on begin with. To say my expectations were not managed is a gross understatement, to say the least. I am baffled as to why I got several different sets of information from employees in multiple divisions within the dealership. I find it upsetting to feel as if on top of using false information (I've also been told by several trusted sources that you can indeed patch run flat tires) as a sales tactic to be highly inappropriate to say the least. I came to this dealership in part due to online reviews and am saddened to say my experience has not at all been reflective of Bob Smith's reputation. After jumping thru multiple hoops I finally got my car back only to see that the knick I had in my rim (which was also "covered" under my warranty) was not fixed in the week and change they had my car. I was so frustrated I didn't even bother bringing it up. While the team that works there is lovely, I have no confidence in this organizations structure and I would really encourage you to do all your own independent research of warranties. I really regret that I trusted that what I was told as being true. Last but not least after this whole entire debacle the only excuse I was provided was a "once in a blue moon" clerical error which certainly doesn't explain away the ineptness with the DMV nor does it explain the slew of misinformation I received. While I understand that car dealerships are not known for having integrity this inexcusable mess was above and beyond. read more

I never in my life own a Mini and always always wanted to own a mini so bad.. on my bucket list of things todo in my life. The 1 part I hate about my love for cars is the dealerships. I dont need to waste your time with the headaches that come from most dealerships and sales people. Loved the car I bought but purchasing from here was a nightmare. Manager was extremely rude and condescending throughout the process of purchasing and made us feel like we could not afford the car and should just leave multiple times. If I did not like the car I would not have stayed. Did not even negotiate the price and the manager was still saying we "did not have to buy the car" whenever we had any questions regarding the car. Sprung a last minute disclosure on us as well after we agreed to purchase telling us there was damage on the car. Would recommend another Mini dealership if you're a millennial that does not look rich when you walk through the door. read more
