I had the best experience ever buying my Mini Cooper here! I didn't go through the regular salespeople, I went through the fleet manager. I put my order together gave it to the fleet manager and 2 months later I had my beautiful little car. I paid a little less than sticker price and did not have to pay the $2000-$3000 premium that they were adding to the price due to demand. The only problem was that it did not arrive with the racing stripes I ordered, but they put the stripes on for me at the dealership without an issue. They even gave me a BMW loaner to drive around in while they put the stripes on. I can't comment on the regular sales process there...but I advise anyone who wants a Mini to go through the fleet sales at Bob Smith. They are very professional. I was in the service department EVERY three weeks with every issue under the sun. It was a LEMON. The check engine light was constantly on. I went in yesterday to talk to a dealer about my options and she offered me 8 thousand dollars! I'VE HAD THE CAR 8 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!! I have been physically ill and I have not stopped crying. I was very unsatisfied with the sales service that I received. I visited about 10 other dealerships and spoke to about 15 different car salespeople. I decided to visit Bob Smith BMW after seller, Scotty reassured me on the phone that sellers "were more laid back" at Bob Smith. Scotty was very helpful and took me for a great test drive in the Mini Clubman. He took time to describe features about the car. After the sale, he also hooked up the blue tooth for my phone. I am very glad for this service. I didn't feel like a valued client when Scotty and I were negotiating. Scotty talked about my personal finances out loud to a colleague that was not part of our negotiations. He was speaking loudly enough so other customers could hear. He also used a tone that was bordering on ridiculing while he referred to my car budget. I mentioned to Scotty that my boyfriend knew Mr. Tim Smith when he worked in Calabasas. I had wanted to make a personal connection and was excited to share my boyfriend's kind words about Mr. Tim Smith. However, Scotty thought I wanted a better deal because of my connections. He told me the sales manager agreed to a few 100 dollars discount because my boyfriend knew Mr. Smith. I was very confused by the offer and felt my personal connections were used to create a pressured and hassled sale. It was an extra surprise to me when Scotty showed me to my new car and I noticed there weren't any car mats. Scotty said, "Oh those are $175 a piece so we make them optional." This simple information should have been disclosed before the end of the sale. I feel Scotty's communication was purposely covert in order for the sale to favor the dealership. I want others to be educated before going to Bob Smith Mini. I followed up with a letter to Bob Smith Mini and never received a phone call back. I haven't bought a car in 10 years (welp, just aged myself) and he made the process as painless as possible. Talk about a charmer (I felt my cougar instincts kick in almost instantaneously). He knows his stuff and let me work through my own dramtic internal car-buying process (denial, anger, stress, acceptance) without so much as batting an eye. I leased a new Cooper S hardtop here 1 year ago. The salesman told me it would make a great commuter to avoid racking up miles on my 911tt. The Mini has given me repeated "clutch/drivetrain" warnings since the 2nd month of ownership. It's been in for service and they said all was checked out and ok. I got the warning again last week and took it in to Bob Smith Mini service again. Now they tell me the clutch is "burned out" and it's not covered by warranty!?!?! The clutch has been garbage since day 1!!! My service rep told me these cars are known for this problem and he's replaced them as early as 5000 miles! So much for "bumper to bumper" warranty. I guess it only applies to the non-defect parts all over this POS car. read more

Three stars tops. My car has been here over a month and they took me to the nearest crooks, Enterprise, to have me rent a gigantic, gas-guzzling beast while they took their sweet time with my car. By the way, Enterprise lied and had me purchase insurance I didn't need. Anyway, now I'm here and allegedly can't have my car. They tried to trick me into paying the full amount even though insurance took my cost down to $1k, now suddenly I was to psychically know that I couldn't come after 6 even though the posted hours say til 8. The last time I was in to have my car fixed, they charged $500 to my credit card without even letting me know. I noticed it on my bill and had to call them to find out what they had done. Now my 2010 Mini is malfunctioning again and I can't even get it into the service department for two days because they don't have any loaners and they are not willing to help me figure out a solution (ex. take my car in today and give me a loaner if they don't fix it by Thursday....oh and they have already told me they wouldn't even get around to LOOKING at it until AT LEAST tomorrow. "They're REALLY busy". I wonder why they're running out of loaners!??!). I'll be missing two days of work because there are no other Mini dealers nearby that I can consider taking my business to and when your car actually isn't even drivable, that's not any kind of priority for Bob Smith Mini Calabasas. Yesterday afternoon when I called trying to book an appointment, I was put on hold forever. I waited for 20 minutes on hold and finally gave up because, by that time, it was past 6pm. If you don't want to take my call because it's close to closing time, perhaps you could just say that. 'It's 5:50 and we really don't want to entertain any new issues so we're just not going to take your call'. I KNOW this would not be happening if Sue were not on holidays. She is the only reason they get the one star. She is brilliant. You feel like a valued customer with Sue. She gets it. She cares. Give her a raise Bob Smith....and have her provide training to others. As close as Bob Smith MINI is to me, like everyone out there, I would still call different MINI dealerships in the area to compare prices and see what can they offer. After talking to a few salespeople, they all tried to make me go down to their dealership and were being very pushy which made me really uncomfortable. Finally, I found Richard Lloyd. He was outstanding, not pushy, responsive and professional. That is how he earned my business. He would talk to me over the phone and show me what can he offer even before I met him in person. When we met in person, he didn't try to shy away from what we already agreed. My new MINI arrived later than what we expected. It was really sweet that Richard even took a picture of the truck with my brand new MINI and said, "guess what just arrived?" That made my morning and I couldn't wait to get my car later that day. I showed up to look at some Mini's - I was greeted by a pleasant sales woman who was very frank, which I appreciated. ("We can negotiate a bit on Minis, but savings off MSRP is in the $100s not $1,000s.) When they didn't have the car we wanted in stock, she offered to do some wheel swapping on the car she did have available. She was also honest and told us we could do better selling our old Civic on our own rather than trading it in. I like honesty as I have bought several cars in my life and thus give Bob Smith a 4-star rating. That said, i didn't go all the way through the process with them so I don't know what the sales manager is like. read more

My review is based on the service dept handling of what should have been a warranty repair on my 2011 MiniCooper Clubman S. Equipped with a JCW Tuning kit (Purchased at the dealership at a a substantial cost.). The car is equipped with a Gertrag 6 speed transmission and the clutch failed /was heading for failure at 23000 miles. I have the full 100,000 mile warranty,the car is babied and regardless of what the "Service Dept Head Mechanic" thinks?... I have over 30 years experience driving stick and have never had a clutch fail on any vehicle I have owned. Let me preface the following with I am well aware of clutch /dual mass flywheel issues on Mini Coopers and drove the car extremely careful. Long story short: Clutched smoked on Laurel Canyon during stop & go traffic for no discernable reason. Was told that I was on the hook for the cost of removing the clutch for inspection and if it was a warranty issue I would not be charged. "Head mechanic" determined the clutch failed due to "Outside Influences" and I was quoted around $4500.00 for a replacement clutch & flywheel. (Google "Mini Clutch failure and you will see many similar stories that play out almost to the letter of what I am stating). Dealership did a song and dance with BMW/Mini who replaced the parts as a "Goodwill Replacement" but admitted no fault. Received upgraded JCW Clutch /Flywheel and was charged $1900.00 for the labor. (Google Clutch replacement on a Mini it is EXTREMELY labor intensive around 9 hours time and the front of your car is dismantled quite completely.) BMW/Mini customer service was completely uncooperative, kept giving canned answers, I never actually saw my parts that were damaged due to "driver negligence". In short, I was taken for $1900.00 for a known problem with Mini clutches and told I don't know how to drive a stick. For that cost you can go to an independent mechanic, buy an uprated heavy duty clutch and be on your way. Beware is all I have to say. read more

Overall, what a great experience! We went into the dealership looking at a Mini Roadster, and didn't really plan to drive off that same day with a car. But, the whole processes was definitely pain free from beginning to end and probably the best car buying experience I've had. Everybody knows the stereotypical car sales experience, and I thought this was completely different. I'd highly recommend finding Alexis if you come to the dealership. She was incredibly personable, professional and knowledgeable from the time we walked in, until we talked through options and pricing and drove the car off the lot! And, I had the feeling that we were honestly being helped to find the best possible deal - no high pressure or any tactics. What a pro! And the experience dealing with the final financing discussion and paperwork was pain free. The financial director was also great to deal with and we were in and out very quick. And, in the days following the sale, Alexis has been very helpful in answering questions and making sure everything is perfect. I couldn't be happier. This was my first experience with Bob Smith Mini, but certainly not my first experience buying a car. Let me tell you, these guys get it right! I started by looking online and asking questions about a Mini Cooper SE (electric). They are hard to come by. I received very prompt replies from Rockstar and Frank and when they had one in stock for me to test drive, I was informed immediately. There was ZERO pressure from these guys. Just friendly and helpful. It felt more like borrowing a tool from neighbor than buying a car. I took the plunge and placed my order and sooner than expected, my new Mini had arrived! The car was detailed...not just washed, and when my daughter asked about removing the warning sticker on the side window, Chris, the General Sales Manager, took care of it right away, also noticing a small spot on the inside of the windshield that needed cleaning. This group truly goes above and beyond to make you happy. Rockstar even snuck outside and put a big red bow on the car to surprise my daughter, without any prompting. Just genuinely nice people with so much attention to detail. This is what buying a car should be like...fun! We're loving our new Mini and have the nice experience to remember. Purchased a Mini...the so called manager offers us floor mats. If we give him a top notch score on the survey. Even though he was aware we were not happy with the service. They were supposed to remove the stripes from our car before it was delivered. ...the day of delivery they arrive not at 4 as promised they arrived at 9 pm with the stripes still on car. They have made so many excuses for the lack of customer service Back to manager he has the so call don't care attitude. Back to the mats, we did the survey and what we received after weeks of waiting for the order of the custom mat...Mats that clearly were not order. ...plain mats that he claim were order. Mats that did not display the mini Cooper logo...he was again lacking customer service. I wish I could take back the high score of the survey. I would like to not give them any stars read more

Dishonest Salespeople I contacted this dealership to purchase a NEW CAR for my mother. I negotiated the contract with the salesperson, and we agreed upon a price and terms. When they delivered the car to us, it was a used car. They asked us to sign a " used car certification " acknowledging that it was indeed a used car. When I brought this to their attention, the manager Chris Conway began to yell at me on the phone, insisting that it was in fact a new car and that I was somehow mistaken by the "used car" language stated on the purchase contract. Furthermore, my previous review about this was removed by yelp, claiming it was not a firsthand experience. This was very much a first hand experience, as I was present the entire time, and actively involved in the attempt to purchase the vehicle from these unethical scoundrels. It is unfortunate that buying a car has to be such a stressful experience. I would advise trying a different dealership. It is also unfortunate that Yelp can be bought by its advertising customers and honest content can be removed at their request. I really have better things to do than complain, but sometimes the truth needs to be told. read more

I have been looking at a number of new cars lately, since my Honda CRV lease is coming to an end this month. Nothing was wrong with my Honda except for the fact that everything about the car bored me to freaking tears. It just didn't have the uniqueness and personality I wanted so no need to get myself into another car with the personality of styrofoam. I wanted something with a hatchback, some space capability, and good gas mileage. I considered the Prius but my husband drives that (we love it) and we don't need two in the family. So I looked at the Mazda CX9, Mercedes GLK, Volkswagen Jetta TDI, Tiguan, and BMW X1. I test drove all the others I listed above and was just kind of meh about everything. I really loved the GLK but the price was high and it was a little snooty for my taste. I don't know, it just didn't feel like me. I wanted something nice but something with a little more personality. So, I saw a Countryman on the road one day and loved it! So flipping cute! It's badass. I went into the dealership on a whim with no intention to buy that day just to test drive. I still had a month on my Honda so I didn't need to leave with a car. I ran straight into Robert "Rockstar" and his whole vibe and personality just jived with me. He was really good with me. He took us out on our first test drive and taught me how to drive the car both manually and automatically. From the moment the car took off we were hootin' and hollerin' and smiling from ear to ear. It feels so solid, so safe, luxurious, but fun and different. So young and full of life. That's how I want to feel when I drive a car. The only complaint I have about the car is that the Countrymans dont have backup cameras. But, the joy I felt driving it made up for the backup cam I had previously thought was a dealbreaker. I was about to pull the plug, though, because the first car I testdrove, the 2015, was out of my price range. But, Robert, true to form, after hunting around for about 30 mins in 109 degree heat, found me a 2014 with 20 miles on it with awesome lease incentives, worked with me on the price, and got me into a Countryman "S" which had so much more turbo and pep than the first, that I was ready to sign then and there. He told us we needed to go out on another test drive so I could feel the difference between the S and the regular, and man, the S KILLED IT. I don't think I've ever had so much fun driving a car in my life. The experience I had with Robert and at this dealership was so refreshing and different than anything else previously, I couldn't stand not walking out with a car that day. I was so ready to pull the trigger, so out I went with my new Mini Countryman S, and I've named her Moneypenny. I also decided to buy the two wear & tear options, the Tire & Wheel and the Total Image package. It drove up my price, but it gives me a ton of peace of mind and keeps my car looking brand spanking new the entirety of my lease. Plus, I get free maintenance for the whole lease term. So cool. I'm absolutely shocked that, within a month of my daughter paying off her 2015 Mini Cooper, she had $3,100 in repair bills at Bob Smith Mini, including spending $1,000 to replace ONE engine mount and her car has only 38,000 miles on it. She just paid it off! Not only did they overcharge for wheel alignment and replacing spark plugs, they also charged her $195 to do a "vehicle check", this sort of fee has always been waived at Honda or Toyota once a customer agrees to follow through with service. She now has to work for 6 weeks to pay off the $3,100 bill. I wouldn't recommend that she purchase another Mini Cooper. read more

I'm not new to the world of car leasing, so I expected the usual: the back and forth with numbers and managers, the waiting, and then...more waiting. However, I had a completely different experience here. I worked directly with Ryan Amico, the Motoring Manager, who made the process easy and (gasp!) enjoyable. My 11 year-old daughter was with me and I was worried that I wouldn't have long before she became bored and would want to leave. However, the entire visit was much shorter than anticipated, and when she started to lose steam, the staff was able to keep her engaged. (She even asked when we were coming back!) I also owe a thank-you to Pardis and Anthony. Pardis made sure I got the most out of my test drive, and Anthony was able to explain every little feature on my new car. (There are some very cool new additions!) I should also mention how happy I am with my Cooper S convertible and how the 2017 model completely blows away the 2013 model. Let me start by saying I've been bringing my car here for years. I love this place. However, my most recent visit was very upsetting. I got a new (to me) car after my last was destroyed by a semi. I trust this place with everything and don't usually question anything they charge me for. It was no different a couple weeks ago when I went in and they said the bill was $1000 fine whatever. I told them to check the car since we hadn't had it checked since we bought it in October or so and they did (so we thought). Fast forward to last Sunday. My bf is 2h away in my recently inspected car when the engine starts giving out. It goes into a lower power state and we both panic as he calls me. He gets stuck there overnight since no one is open on Sunday and takes it to an ex Mini mechanic in town because he can't make it to Mini (and they told him he'd have to wait days to even be seen). This guy inspects the car and determines it's an ignition coil and has it fixed same day. So we did some research and found that the ignition coils shouldn't be going out until 80-100k miles (our car is at 60k) unless other factors are at play such as bad spark plugs. So we ask him and he confirms all my spark plugs were bad and looked to be the original ones from 2012. Spark plugs are something Mini USUALLY checks I thought?? They always tell me when mine are out on my other car so why not this one?? Needless to say I am pissed. Spark plugs don't cost much but the coil does. So what could have been a couple hundred extra dollars, if Mini had inspected properly 2 weeks ago and saw my spark plugs were bad, has now turned into ANOTHER $1000 bill! So my question now is did Mini purposely not tell me hoping I'd come back and pay them even more when the engine died out on me? Or did they really, somehow, not notice 10 year old messed up spark plugs? Either way, I loved this place and I won't be back. I love my cars too much to have this happen again. The moment we walked into Bob Smith, it was evident we were going to have a great experience here. The overall feel once inside was completely relaxed, and welcoming. Our "Motoring Advisor", George was very helpful, courteous, friendly, and so not the typical car salesman. Actually, no one working at Bob Smith Mini seemed to fit the car salesman bill. And once it came time to number crunch, George, Richard the Finance Man, and Ryan, (I believe he is the GM) were more than willing to work with us on a number that we all were comfortable with. This is my second time around at Bob Smith MINI. The first in 2004. Kept my little "Cream Puff" for a full eleven years! 2015 and the familiar face of "George" knew to expect us, greeted us at the door, and we were wheeling and dealing all over again. We bumped up are game with our big puppy "Champ" in tow, and he was greeted with treats and water and a doggy sitter ready and waiting in the cool of the building, while we heated up the roadway.
