Walked in and a friendly Galaxy Team member helped us at the kiosk to purchase tickets. Thank you! We started earning points today. Didn't have to wait in line to buy popcorn, pretzel and a bottle of Dasani water. Wow, that pretzel was huge! Seats were comfortable and the movie: Fall 2 was good. We were going to hang out at the casino for a bit after the movie, but decided to do a little shopping before heading back to our hotel. We would definitely come back again when we're in town.

Dark Prison The Dark Prison haunt in Carson City, Nevada is…read morean exciting addition to the haunt scene. Installed in the Nevada State Prison which closed in 2012, the haunt used the history and setting to maximum effect. The starkness of the prison cells and hallways is a perfect setting. Enhanced with theatrical lighting, creepy actors and well timed jump scares, plus a friendly engaged staff, this haunt is a captured my attention. The haunt has three sections, each getting more intense and more actor interaction as you went. The cast was slightly understaffed the night I went but they utilized them most effectively. They played their roles with frightening conviction even through I walked passed a couple I didn't see. Make up and costuming was exceptional. I paid extra for the VIP package that included a visit backstage and we got to talk to the make up designer. Many of the masks, makeup designs and props are originals made in-house. I've seen so many off-the-shelf haunt products, it's nice to see original The tour also covers the history of the prison which was fascinating as this prison was actually built by inmates, was the first site for executions by gas chamber and lethal injection. The VIP package also included an exclusive VIP bar and a markup and oddities museum. I suggest a live CC camera view inside the haunt so we can scares from a different perspective. The haunt is run by the same group you ran Dark Corner in Reno in cooperation with the Nevada State Prison Historical Society. The mix of horror and history give the haunt a unique character and the reported paranormal activity adds to the dark aura surrounding the property. Located close to central Carson City, it's well worth the drive from Reno or Tahoe area, and if your big haunt or history fan, this is a must do!

The classes vary widely too, it's not just painting but also includes things like mosaics, beading, collage, and so on. Finally, the place just has a great vibe - historical exhibits, pretty antiques, nice art, and nice staff.

The barn where the reception was held is simply beautiful. The things I really did not like however, were the restroom situation and the ROCKS. The restrooms were in a trailer that is not handicap accessible whatsoever. There were several guests who were using walkers and I imagine they either had a difficult time accessing the restrooms or could not access them at all due to the stairs that needed to be climbed. I don't use a medical device to get around but my disability did make using the restrooms very inconvenient. I also wore very small heels (one inch pumps), and had a TERRIBLE time walking around through the rocky ground between the barn and the restrooms. The rocks are very sharp and tore up the heels of my shoes a little bit as well. I understand the rocks are likely there to cut down on the dust since this is a working farm, but I think switching out the current rocks to pea gravel or a crushed stone would make traversing the area easier for everyone. I'd also recommend clear signage from the parking area to the ceremony/reception areas. Like I mentioned, the venue is beautiful, just keep in mind that anyone with mobility issues or heels will have a difficult time moving around.

Chad, Michelle (owners), and Denise (wedding coordinator) were the best! They communicated very well, were so accommodating and did not say no to any of our requests (all within reason). We go to Candy Dance (in the Fall) as well, but I find this event less crowded, more authentic, and more culturally and historically fascinating. Perhaps the Mother's Day weekend scheduling suppressed the attendance numbers a bit and maybe the 2012 event (April 26-29) will be better subscribed. Various events are scattered throughout the Genoa town site and it was fun to find them all. We bought a Day Pass, while tickets are required for various musical acts (such as The Saddle Cats and All Hat and No Cattle), evening dances and BBQ and Basque dinners. We particularly enjoyed Ken Garner's Poetry at the Town Hall, Kit Carson's self-history talk at the Fire Department Loft, and Billie Rightmire's Genoa history lesson (with Gayle's Mom occasionally chiming in) at the Trimmers Outpost Annex. In between were various artists and crafts persons (some with colourful names such as the Quiet Woman Cattle Company) and good food and drink. The weather was also on the cool side which made it even more comfortable to wander around for as long as we wanted. There's a lot of ranching and cultural heritage in this area and sometimes that gets lost in the nearby suburban sprawl and resort communities. Thank You Genoa for the occasional reminder to where some of us are from.

As oart of our week long trip to the Lake Tahoe area, we went to the Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music…read moreFestival. This event is awesome. We went to opening night at the Carson Valley Inn; Baxter Black left us laughing during his over hour long act; he has such great cowboy stories that leave you laughing. On Friday we went to the festival - food booths; speaking events; and music. We spent most of our time listening to the top notch cowboy western music at the large tent at Mormon Park. Good groups. We also went Saturday and went to see the Grammy award winning group Riders in the Sky. They also had some great events we did not go to such as ranch visits and horse riding events as well as nightly special dinners. If in the area (i.e.Taho, Reno, Genoa etc.) when this event is going on, stop by and see this top notch event. This was the 4th year and well worth the small price of admission.

Today, while in VC we stopped here with out two little ones (2 and 4) they did the mining buckets,…read morethe mini miner for 8$ worth every penny!!!!!! They got really neat geodes, rocks, pyrite, shark teeth and more! It was so incredibly worth it! The woman running the place was so sweet!!! The highlight of the drive to Virginia City! After poking our heads into various storefronts, our…read morekids were wondering why on earth did we drag them to this place. Dancin saved the day! The rest of the town didn't seem family friendly (we even got shooed away by one owner for reading the sign "don't touch") The owner of this place took genuine interest in educating the children about the various types of stones. He made the experience fun and interesting... without being crazy or dressing up as a cowboy ! No gimmicks. I was so surprised by the value fo the experience and the organization of the store! Our 6 and 7 year old screamed with delight at every item that $6 bucket of sand revealed. I was amazed with the beauty of the rocks (who cares what it's worth, they were colorful and display-worthy!). After the kids finished their treasure finding bit, I had to my own, the Mother Lode bucket for $20! HUGE amythyst and pyrite and fossils abound! Up the road, at the outdoor "gem" mining, we got taken by the $8 deal and got "gems" that my son said, "Mama, I can hardly see them!" The rocks were the size of half a pea! Dan Cin was the best value and the highlight of our family outing to Virginia City. Thank you sir!
