So, I have been a patient at Carolina Eyecare for many years. Dr Boatwright is one Of the best eye…read moredoctors in the area. However, I was scheduled last year for an appointment in May 2026 and I just recently was canceled since Dr Boatwright won't be available. My new appointment could be as early as November. I am very distressed and a bit angry, but I think I will find a different practice!

I made an appointment with them for an inflammation in my eye and was not seen by the doctor for almost 2 hours after my appointment was scheduled. I also explained to him a concern for a specific blood test due to my family history , and he wrote me a referral for blood work, but didn't include what I had mentioned. Then, when that information got worse i called to make an appointment or see if they could write me a stronger prescription eye drop for my condition. Instead of telling me they couldn't write a prescription without an appointment they had me wait, and wait, and wait for a call back i was told i would get but never came. I called several times, and finally got my answer. So now my condition is worsening and I have wasted time I could've spent making an appointment else where. I have no issue with there not being time for an appointment, but to not respect my time and condition is disappointing. Will not be returning.

    1. After my eye exam I was given a specific eye test (due to a medication I am taking) by a staff…read moremember. This test took aprox 45-50 min due to the staff member struggling with operating the machine. She said she was "not sure about the machine.". After an hour she still wasn't certain the "machine was working properly". 2.Told me the prescription she had written was good for glasses and contacts. 3.After approx one more hour Dr House told me the prescription written could not be used for both glasses and contacts. He also told me the dosage for a medication I am currently taking was not accurate and he was sending a message to the Dr. Since the eye test and prescription given by the staff member proved to be inaccurate I asked him didn't he think the results could be user error? Regardless Dr House sent the msg anyway. 4.Dr House told me a staff member would call me in one week to let me know my trial pair of contacts were in and I would be scheduled to see him at 1:15 that same day so I would not have to wait (after over 2 hours today) because he wants to have the eye test redone. (Yet, he'd already sent a msg to my doctor? He also wrote me a prescription for glasses and contacts but refused to give me the prescription for contacts because he insisted I come Back to their practice for a trial pair of contacts of which they charge $50 to the patient. 5. I checked out and front office staff said the Dr wants to see me in a year! I told the lady the next appointment he'd told me would be at 1:15 and he would give me the test again that day. 6.A few days later the office manager called to tell me the staff member that assisted me was fired for several different reasons. ??? 7.My appointment was 2/9/26. As of 2/27/26 I have not received any notification about trial contacts or returning for a 1:15 appointment so the eye test could be repeated. 8.This week I saw an ophthalmologist at MUSC who repeated the test and told me other than dry eyes, my eyes are great. No prescription was given due to dry eyes causing vision difficulty. 9.Today I received an insurance notice from PEEBA filed by Eye Center of Charleston for $300+. Also stating the amount billed to insurance was over the limit. 10. This claim filed was for an erroneous test and incomplete appointment as I was refused a contact prescription (which I have received no contact for) as well as the follow up appointment.

It's officially been a month and a half since I had LASIK done and so far, my only regret is that I…read moredidn't get it done sooner. If you've been in Charleston for any length of time you've probably heard of Kerry Solomon. His name is always the one that pops up when mentioning LASIK and from the moment I made the decision that I wanted to get this done, I knew he'd be the one I'd go to. Taking in all the good with the bad, I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone considering LASIK to go ahead and get it done, but I was even surprised at how much goes into this whole process. I'd say the actual surgery was one of the easiest parts of the whole experience. There is a lot of prep and post-op aspects with getting LASIK and Dr. Solomon's office did a very good job of clearly explaining all that goes into this procedure. I won't go into everything involved but just know for a good month, your world will consist of lots of round the clock eye drops, no makeup for a big duration (this may have been the hardest part for me), and wearing my glasses a lot more than I'm used to. I'd say if you're considering getting LASIK, these things should be taken into consideration (especially for us girls who wear makeup) to plan around. I ended up getting my surgery done in August because they were offering a huge discount during that time period ($800 off each eye!). The actual surgery wasn't bad at all. Definitely nerve-wracking but I can't imagine anyone being comfortable when you think of what is actually happening to your eyes. But the whole staff is so great at putting your mind to ease. And the good news is that the surgery goes by really fast! You'll be in the room less than 10 minutes and the actual procedure is about 2 minutes per eye. Then you go home and take a 4-6 hour nap and you wake up to perfect (or near perfect) vision! Truth be told, there have been some not so great aspects I've had to deal with like severe dry eyes and night glare, but these are all normal effects of the procedure and of course nothing that reflects badly on Dr. Solomon. I'm told to give it a solid 3 months to let your eyes heal completely, so that's what I'm going to do. But even taking these into consideration, I'd do it all over again. I still catch myself heading to the bathroom to take out/put in my contacts and then I remember I don't have to anymore. Best feeling!
