The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options which was fantastic and I really enjoyed the chimichurri cauliflower steak with roast tomatoes, salad and thick chips, while my friend chowed down on the halloumi burger and thin chips. Both dishes were huge, filling and nicely seasoned and presented, and a bargain for the price! They have a great selection of tap beers and ciders and oddly canned cocktails, with a fully stocked bar. Service was friendly. The bar owner is adding a few holiday chalets which will be nice in summer. Located in a small cute village with excellent walks and a train station to London.

As we arrived so did a 'coach party' of about 22 people who managed to order their food before us. No problem as it gave us further time to have a few drinks more. I think the kitchen was under immense pressure as our order was delayed but, we were informed. I wondered if the wait would be worth it. It was. One beautiful Sunday roast beef roast, chicken in white wine, baked camembert (for our veggie) and a fantastic skate wing for me. Fantastic food and well worth the wait. The dog even got a treat from the landlord. Service at the bar was friendly, cutlery etc delivered to our table outside and the food was incredible. OK, waiting time........no, I am going to take into account all those people arriving, the quality of the food we ate and not knocking off a star. It was brilliant, thank you one and all.

Green Man - Cherry crumble and custard

The Green Man is a traditional pub, allocated on the old A10, between Melbourne and Shepreth. (You…read morewouldn't find it by accident; it's on a spur off the link road from the village of Melbourne to the A10, going towards Cambridge). The pub has a bar area, and a larger dining room. Outside there is a small seating area immediately at the back, and picnic tables on the other side of the car park, under trees. It has free Wifi, and plentiful parking in the car park and along the road. We decided to go out one evening, to try the food. (It has generally good reviews on other comparison sites.) We decided to go for something simple; my partner had the grilled chicken with chips and salad, and I had the vegetarian curry, with cauliflower and red peppers, served with rice and a side salad. The main courses came to £27. We decided to go for puddings - they have a good selection of traditional puddings, and we chose Bakewell tart and ice cream, and Cherry Crumble with custard (£8 each) The food was perfectly acceptable, tasty without being outstanding - in other words, decent pub grub. My partner was very happy with the gfrilled chicken, which was well cooked, and not dry. My curry was very tasty, and the rice perfectly cooked. The puddings were okay - my crumble came with lots of cherry fruit and a generous amount of custard - but my partner's Bakewell Tart was a little underwhelming. Service was efficient and the staff were friendly and accommodating. We'll happily go back for a quiet evening out.
