On this day alone, I witnessed a birthday party, a sweet date, friend groups, families, and solo painters. I'm NOT an artist so honestly, felt a bit anxious making those first colorful paint strokes on my coffee mug. I mostly settled into the experience knowing there was no turning back now! An hour and half later, I handed over my creation and a couple weeks later, VOILA. A reminder of this fun afternoon! (the less glowy stuff) I never got a call about my item. I only knew it was ready because others in my group were posting pics of their final products. When I did call, they couldn't find my slip so it became a hunt based on my description. I don't know what would've happened if I didn't have pics from the day I was there. My elementary-aged son and I needed something for a mother-son outing, and saw something on a video…read moreabout escape rooms. We were immediately super excited to try it. I booked without asking how much, and it surprised me how expensive it was, but in the end, I would 100% do it again, and they booked me for that day. Our host was Finn, and we liked him immediately. Apparently he looks like one of my son's favorite you tubers so my son was immediately pleased, ha ha. Finn was so patient as we tried the starter puzzle (for true newbies like us), and he was even more patient when we were failing hard-core in the room. We needed Gingy's (his) help a lot to get through it. His clues were perfect fits for us, and it allowed the experience to be crazy challenging (we sucked, but it was so fun, and the teamwork and memories were priceless) while also allowing us to progress - eventually- to the end. We did not escape the room in time, but Finn allowed us to see it through the end. Finishing made us SO happy! I don't think we ever had a better mother-son day together, and even though it costs me an entire day's pay for the two of us, we will be doing this again. I liked it so much I even invited my ex-husband to join us, because he is great at that sort of thinking... And we haven't done a thing together since we officially ended our 20 yr relationship in 2025, so if that doesn't mean I'm desperate to do more of this, and get better so we can try their medium level room, I don't know what would. Thank you Finn! You literally made our day, and week. I loved the pics you took at the end, and you made a special memory for us that I will cherish always.

I've seen a number of his works before at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, but several of the pieces on display today were new to me--such a treat to experience different works up close. The gift shop is small yet thoughtfully curated, featuring items inspired by the current exhibit along with creations by talented local artisans. Admission is very reasonable, and students receive discounted entry at just $10. Donations are also warmly welcomed and help support this wonderful community art space.

It's really the antithesis of what I and many others have thought of in the past when it comes to improv--things like extroversion, performance, sharp wit, sometimes even an effort to outshine other players. Laura and Zipline turn all of this on its head and allow us to see ourselves and each other with lightness & humor. And in an interesting way, we can even cultivate our own courage to use our voices simply by watching Laura and her team collaborate. Of course, the best way to truly 'go there' is to participate in her improv classes. I happen to know Laura's heart well enough to recognize that she makes her offerings based on a deep desire to help all of us appreciate and have faith in who we are and revel in the delight of our imaginations.
