Not many breweries in Santee, but we come here often for the Whetlands Raspberry Beer + for taco night. There were visibly less kids than pre-COVID days which was really nice. Prior to it literally was like a day care, kids seemed to always be running around/being noisy. It's much better now. Visited tacos el chuchy (their Tuesday vendor) but was disappointed to hear they got rid of all you can eat tacos. The best part of this was their side of rice/salsas/aguas frescas. They do no serve complimentary rice and beans or have any Mexican fruit drinks. Sides can be purchased but not refillable. The tacos were still very good. You just get less than for what you paid prior to COVID. read more

I really like the raspberry beer and the session here. This brewery is two in one. There is a distillery that serves delicious cocktails in a hidden corner or just come for the beer. There are several cocktails served including mules with fresh pureed fruit and whiskey sour. Most beers cost $6 - $7, a great value. read more

BNS is REALLY well marked, which is nice. Sometimes breweries have small signs and make my life more difficult, not BNS. Now it is located in the industrial area as expected. Nice big tasting room with a long bar and a pool table. They also have a "dance hall" with a stage set up in a large room off the taproom. On to the beers! Gunfighter Golden ale, slightly bready for a golden ale. Flintlock American pale ale nice bit of hop aroma and flavor. This was a nice pale ale. Ole Prospector red ale had a nice red color, malty with a little bit of hops to back it up. Lawmaker IPA nice hop flavor with a little bite, but not overpowering. Ok, our second flight was all IPA's. Come on folks. You do know there are many more beer styles than IPA right? I am not doing individual reviews of all these IPA's. It's just too much. Let me wrap up the IPA stuff by saying their IPA's were good. If you've read my previous reviews you know I do appreciate IPA's but really don't like current IPA craze. Gatling Gun Imperial Stout has roasty, strong flavors as you would expect. Starvin' Marzen is a really nice Marzen. Smooth flavors and very tasty. Railgun Wee Heavy is a scotch ale and was the highlight of my visit. Nice malty flavors and just all-around deliciousness! The last one I tried was the gin-barrel aged Doppelbock, which they only pour in 8 ounces. I talked the bartender into a taster splash. This was a powerful brew both in aroma and taste. I can't say I loved it but I did appreciate it. BNS had a great vibe but I was disappointed that the distillery was not open at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon. It's worth a stop for sure, they had some good beers but were way over the top on the IPA's. Local brewing company located in an industrial park in San Diego's East County... This place is worth the drive if you are looking for a county western vibe with a rad hipster touch... Craft beers, designer beers, IPA's.... Artful mixed drinks.... An interesting combination I would say... Super cool bar. They have a great room with a stage and live music which is very cool. The staff was super nice. I went to a friends Charity Event over the weekend and these guys were nice enough to help out and lend their parking lot, some of their guys to help, the bbq tent with fantastic bbq out front. The inside is large and has a couple rooms. Tons of beers although we didn't have any, it was too early to drink. It looks like a very locals hangout, lots of tattoos and very friendly guys. One of our favorite places to go for Friday night happy hour. I don't drink beer, but my friends do & they enjoy the IPA. There is a large selection of beers on tap, in bottles, growlers, & kegs. My favorite is the lemonade and vodka. I have gotten the flavored one, but it's not my favorite. We have also done a shot of whiskey that was good. The sprits are in a different area then the beer. They don't serve food, but do usually have a food vendor. The hotdog vendor is good and the BBQ vendor is tasty. You can bring your dog. There are bands on the weekends. We like to sit outside. Great place! Before the COVID cluster muck we did have less pleasant visits with under supervised children running amuck. Throwing rocks, screaming and running around while mom/dad drank beer and chatted. Been great the last few visits, hope it stays peaceful and quiet. read more

Yep. Do it. This place is awesome. Stepped food into this place and first thing I saw was burgers being Cooked on a grill. Check, awesome. Step two, you guessed it, great people. I walked in and since this place has amazing ratings I thought, ok this is gonna be like the most that are breweries. Nope. So I said "Hey can I get a few tasters", yep no problem and they did it with a smile. Thank you very much, oh where to begin. Revolver IPA- do it. The one to go with, buttery hoppy and delicious. Ma deuce double IPA, just as good but I would go with The Revolver. But wait for it...you want to go with The Red ale (like most don't) go with the Ole Prospector, it's the best..oh so good Gatling Gun is a traditional stout but if you want to really get everybody talking go with the *Jaynes Peanut*- it's the bomb! This is definitely one of the larger brewery located in East County San Diego. The offer a great selection of beers and a lot of good space to come and participate in some significant beer tasting. Of course they also offer their beer in bottled, in cans, in kegs, and in growlers of course. They offer some form of eat, either in house, a food vendor, or at the vary least free peanuts throughout the week. You can also hold special events and receptions at the brewery. On this visit, I had the "Gun Fighter Golden Ale," a lighter beer that ponies up to my type of beer. It is a very clear and I can understand why "golden" was mixed into its name. It definitely has that color. Also, it was a very refreshing beer, one that goes down well on a hot day or with some hot food. The staff at the brewery were quite personable and participated in small talk. I liked that the young lady behind the bar counter, would step out a check on patrons to see if they were okay or needed anything. Good stuff... Unique local brewery. I love their logo. Great beer, nice staff. Usually have local bands on the weekends. Great taco Tuesday.. they don't serve food themselves but have a cool little set up outside, all you can eat! The beer itself is good too... I'm a total beer snob and I enjoy the pale ale the best but they always have something new small batch brew to try too. Also on the weekends their distillery in the back is open. They have ALLL kinds of liquors to try (including moonshine) you can do a taster flight or get a mixed drink. Beware! They're high octane! read more

Update: we had an even here last night of about 100 people. The first thing everyone said was how cool the venue is. Everyone loved the decor and the room fit all of our guests comfortably. Honestly probably our favorite breweries in San Diego. I just love how low key it is here, and everyone is so friendly. It has that family type feel here, and it's also kid/dog friendly. They almost always have some sort of food truck or bbq outside, and they also let you bring your own food. A few of my friends and I spent the day here last weekend , and couldn't believe we ended up spending an entire day here. We got here at noon, and didn't leave until 5pm. They have plenty of things to keep you entertained (Corn hole, pool table, card games, etc. ). They have a wide variety of beers to choose from, and some hard alch options! This is my first time here although I've driven by so many times. My friend invited me to a corn hole tournament fundraiser for her nephew who's on his way to the Olympic Games. Great country and western atmosphere, good beer and good bourbon whiskey from their distillery. Friendly people, good staff and fun place overall. It's out of the way but worth a try. Great beer! I prefer the Gunfighter or the Lawmaker, but there wasn't a single beer I didn't like. Alex and Amber are great! They even remember our favorite beers when we come in. I came here one night invited by some friends. The music was a rock tribute band and it was good. The outside has plenty of seating and on this night there was a food truck that was there ( I did not order from) The brews are good and the area is spacious. Its a cool little brewery for hanging out with friends. They have game nights and music nights. There are some pool tables there as well. cool little place! read more

Went on a Sunday afternoon - Service was good and it had a good atmosphere. the house cat was cute! In an area full of breweries, they stand out because of the cool, more rugged vibe and the fact that they have a distillery. We plan to go back when there's live music! Interesting beers - though more IPAs than I personally prefer. With the theme of the place I felt they should be playing more outlaw type country as opposed to the pop country we heard that day. read more

Been here a few times over the past few years. It's been interesting to see them expand in the same space over the years, now having a distillery and a stage away from the main tasting room. Overall the I'd say they have about average beers, but nothing that keeps me coming back. Staff seems pleasant enough, and the place is pretty clean. We stopped by yesterday for a flight and ended up staying for a few drinks and enjoying ourselves. The bartender was very nice and helpful with great service! Great potential! I stopped by this past weekend (6/1//13) for their soft opening. They have a great little patio area out front with picnic tables and a fish pond. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. For the soft opening they had four different beers on tap, I liked two of the four but all of them tasted very fresh and well made. It looks like they are going for a bit of an old western theme with two man saws and cow boy boots, i think it could be a lot of fun and look forward to seeing the place completed. They didn't have the spirits ready yet and don't have a kitchen for food service. With booze and a good menu with quality foods I could be this place becoming a new local favorite. This was an incredibly cute little place. I am impressed - never thought I would see a place like this in Santee! The location is technically Santee, but it's on the far end of town, just in front of the drive-in and almost considered Lakeside (IMO). It was easy to find and located in a small business park. There isn't tons of parking, but we didn't have any trouble finding a space. I like the theme of this place - Wild West. I also like that they've fenced in the front entrance and turned it into a patio with picnic tables, a pond and kids sand box. There was also a set of corn hole, which was fun. Inside was nice as well. We stopped in on a Saturday night because they were having free live music (score!). Although it's a large space, most of it is designated for brewing, which was cool to see. There are a few tables and a large bar with standing room. I would say they offered somewhere around 10 beers. It looked to be a decent selection. I went immiediately for the "Ma Deuce," which is their DIPA. It was pretty good and 8.6% ABV. My next beer was the Gatling Gun - an Imperial Stout coming in at 9.0%. It was drinkable and not too boozy and I really enjoyed it. While we were there, The Sushi Bus had a stand set up and were offering sushi. It was surprisingly delicious and I am glad that I tried it. I honestly can't imagine what some others are talking about when they say that the beer or the mood were horrible and that the venue was uninviting - it's pretty much the total opposite. Most tasting rooms are no frills, and I am glad that they offer a nice outdoor space (although the picnic tables were reall uncomfortable). The staff was super friendly - it's not a bar - and the 1st thing they told us was that they don't have servers - which is how 99.99% of all tasting rooms are. This was a great place to just chill, listen to some jams and enjoy a few delicious beers. Was it the best beer I've ever had? No, but it was also far from the worst. They seemed to offer something for everyone and it had a real neighborhood feel to it. If you are in the area, I would suggest checking it out. read more
