Went to Cutwater Distillery for a tasting and dinner, and it was so much fun! Our tour guide was Zion, and he was full of energy, personable, and knowledgeable. We learned about the history of the company and the distillery, got to see the huge wooden barrels where the spirits are made, followed by the large metal and copper containers the liquor goes into afterward. We even got to sneak a peek at production and see them bottling the beverages. After the tour and history lesson, we did a tasting. It was their Halloween pairing, so we tried vodka and whiskey along with a few canned drinks. Each drink was paired with gummy bears, dehydrated apple slices, and chocolates. The idea was to take a sip and then eat one of the items to see how it enhanced the flavors. The Rum Mojito was definitely my favorite, especially paired with the gummy worms! The whiskey was my least favorite, but my friend said she thought it was really smooth. In the front where you enter, there were a bunch of different drink options, including some that are available in stores and others that are exclusive to the distillery. When you do a tour, you also get a percentage off items you purchase. And apparently, it's a better deal to get a 6 pack than a 4 pack. After the tasting, we got another drink. I ordered this cute witchy Halloween drink, while my friend got an Espresso Banana Martini. Her martini was SOOOO strong! When we went to order food, the waiter let us know it was still happy hour, so we got the buffalo wings and beef sliders. I really enjoyed the wings! The sliders were just alright.. Overall, I had a really fun time. I loved how the distillery was decorated for Halloween, they really got into the Halloween spirit. The tour was interesting, the tasting was unique, and the pairings made the experience even more fun. Definitely recommend. read more

To my surprise, this is a beautiful bar out in the middle of a business district. I think the entrance is gorgeous and the inside is nicely lit. Their Halloween theme is neat. Its a bit early for Halloween but you gotta get into the spirits right? Lmao! The bartenders are nice and the crowd is easy going. Today, people were watching the Padres game. I got to enjoy my time with two beautiful ladies today while we shared some flights and food. I got a space dust beer along the Halloween flights. I liked the orange one as it tasted like pumpkin spice to me! The drinks are so awesome here and beautifully decorated. A lot of the drinks are inventive and aesthetically creative! The chicken wings came out within minutes and they were delicious! They were not puny wings either! They close at 10pm which is nice bc you know any bar that closes at 2am usually invites a lot of drunk and badly behaved people! Come here! You will like it!!! I have been trying to get to this restaurant for the longest time and I finally made it there yesterday. It was decorated for Halloween too! There is a parking lot adjacent to the front entrance and plenty of street parking as well. I ordered a drink called Murder by Crows. Wow. Talk about delicious, BUT the showstopper was that the drink came in a cage. We also ordered a Halloween flight and that was really tasty too. They have a Photo Booth in the back of restaurant and a merch section in the front. Check out their future events as well. This spot has tasting events and sweet happy hour. read more

It's that time of the year and month! Cutwater is always on top of it. I come here for the good times, the good vibes and the atmosphere. The food is great, ordered a couple pan bread dishes or "pizza" which was delightful. This is my favorite time of the year when Cutwater goes all out with their spooky theme inside and outside. On weekends the wait times to get up there but the wait is worth it. Sit at the bar and watch the games, order some drinks, and chat with the bartender. What a vibe! The design outside caught our eye immediately, and the inside was just as beautiful. We grabbed a table and dove into a few tiki drinks, the presentation alone was worth it, especially the one served in a flamingo glass. Absolutely adorable. To get the negativity out of the way, parking can be pretty tough. It's a small parking lot and the street parking fills up quick. If you don't have a reservation, you're definitely going to be waiting a while, unless you find a seat at the bar, which thankfully we did. My friend is a Cutwater LOVER and has been recommending this place forever. I had been here forever ago for company work party, but had not experienced a regular dining experience here. The restaurant was so spacious and would be great to come with a group. There was a lot of parking available which is always a plus so I will definitely be back again. Such great Happy Hour deals here! We got the prawn skewers and cacio fries off of the Happy Hour menu, and the Thai calamari to share. Rye was amazing in checking in on us and asking us how everything was. I had gotten the Moscow Mule, which I was saying although good, I just wasn't a total vodka gal. Rye was able to whip up a very delicious spicy margarita which really hit the spot! We came here on a Friday evening to celebrate a birthday and had reserved a table. It took about 10 minutes for them to prepare the table for us. My friend and I shared the Cutwater Flights, Pasta, and Ice Cream Trio. Getting the food and drinks out were quick! We had the flights already rolled out while we were still ordering our main courses (we were a big group) . Food came out quick. The pasta was 4/5. I remember it had a lot of bell peppers in it and personally, I am not the biggest fan. The taste of the bell peppers were very prominent, so I recommend if you love bell peppers. The flights were amazing as well. Our majority group favorite was the banana one. The green one I personally loved as it has a mint after taste, but some people found it to be their least favorite due to the mint. The ice cream trio flight was somewhat of a fruity flavor, banana flavor, and pina colada. I had high hopes for pina colada, but it was actually my least favorite out of the trio. The flavor was not as strong as I had hoped it to be. That being said, it was still a good dessert and the other two flavors were really good! I recommend going here for a special outing or occasion/date night! Prices are mid range so if you are expecting to order apps, main course, drinks, and dessert, definitely expect the bill to be around $100-$200 for 2. This was our 4th visit to Cutwater, and while we unfortunately didn't have the best experience with service on one of our previous visits, we decided to give it another try by sitting at the bar. We're so glad we did! Riell completely changed the experience for us. He made us feel welcome, listened to what we liked, and created some fantastic drinks. 1 star -- and honestly, the only reason it's getting that is because I can't give zero. I made this reservation a WEEK in advance for my birthday and even went out of my way to call at 11 AM that same day to make sure we would be seated INSIDE because the whole reason I chose Cutwater was for the Halloween atmosphere. I was told it "wouldn't be a problem." Apparently that meant absolutely nothing. We showed up ON TIME for our 8 PM reservation, waited around 10 minutes while they "got our table ready," and then they walked us all the way to the back OUTSIDE to a table for SIX people when my reservation was for EIGHT. What exactly were they getting ready? I asked for the manager, Alex, and his attitude was basically tough luck, nothing I can do. Meanwhile, there were plenty of EMPTY tables sitting inside. His excuse was that those were being saved for other reservations that hadn't even arrived yet. So let me get this straight: we booked a week ahead, called the same day to confirm indoor seating, showed up on time, and somehow people who weren't even there yet took priority over us? Then he mentioned that he also needed to seat WALK-INS. That was the cherry on top. Apparently reservations here mean less than people who just randomly walk through the door. After all of us pushing back and explaining how ridiculous the situation was, suddenly magically, an indoor table became available. Amazing how that works when five minutes earlier there was supposedly "nothing he could do." By the time we were actually seated, our 8 PM reservation had turned into almost 8:45 PM. Nearly 45 minutes of my birthday night wasted standing around dealing with something that should never have been an issue in the first place. And did Alex ever come over afterward to apologize? Nope. Did he acknowledge that they completely mishandled our reservation? Nope. Did anyone try to make up for the inconvenience? Nope. Just terrible management and a complete lack of customer service. I specifically chose this place for my birthday, drove all the way there for the Halloween experience, planned ahead, called ahead, arrived on time, and STILL had to argue just to get what I had already confirmed. If you're celebrating a birthday or anything important, I would absolutely NOT trust this place with your plans. Apparently making a reservation here is more of a suggestion than an actual reservation. read more

I really wanted to love the tequila tasting experience at Cutwater Spirits because overall we actually had a good time. I took a much-needed night to focus on enjoying myself and the atmosphere did not disappoint. However, the tequila tasting tour itself felt very underwhelming for the price. For a $50 tasting, I expected an actual tasting experience of the Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo categories. Instead, we were given such tiny pours that we were told to split them between tasting the tequila by itself and then again with the fruit/chocolate pairing. It honestly felt ridiculous and nowhere near enough to properly experience each tequila. Our tour guide Zion was nice, but the tasting portion itself felt very cheap for what was paid. The ONLY reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 1 is because Molly and Ciara completely turned the experience around. They were sweet, attentive, accommodating, and genuinely made us feel welcomed. Those beautiful ladies were absolutely the highlight of the visit. I'd definitely come back for the atmosphere and service, but I truly hope Cutwater improves the tequila tasting portions because the current setup does not feel worth $50. read more

I was loving the 90s 2000s playlist that made me want to sing a long to every song. Made some friends with the table next to us. The location is in an industrial area. Very spacious. This was my second visit, and the service, atmosphere, and food were all great once again. We came during their happy hour (Monday-Friday from 3pm-6pm), and I have to say they have a really solid selection to choose from at a great price. We ordered the 3 sliders, prawn skewers, and the chicken meatballs -- which are definitely my recommendation. Everything was flavorful and well presented. From the moment we walked in, the bartenders were welcoming and attentive, checking in on us throughout our visit without being overbearing. They're currently in their tequila season, and you can tell they put a lot of effort into the presentation and creativity of their drinks. They really know how to catch a customer's attention. I had to try the pickle margarita, and as a pickle fanatic, this did not disappoint. The Cutwater lime margarita mixed with the pickle brine balanced perfectly -- enough pickle flavor to enjoy without overpowering the margarita itself. The only 2 small critiques I have is with the chicken meatballs, but only because they were so good. I wish there had been just a little more of the hot honey sauce because paired with the potato chips, it would've made the combination even more fire. It does have a bit of spice to it, but not in an unbearable way. Also, I put an order of the churro bites from their tequila season menu, and I guess our bartender had forgotten to put the order in--however, they did make it up by offering a can (which was the espresso martini black this was GOOD, another recommendation please go ahead and ask your bartender for the RND espresso black) Other than that, no complaints at all. The food came out in a fair amount of time, especially considering we visited around 3pm on a Thursday. I can't speak for busier rush times, but during our visit everything flowed smoothly. If you can't handle a Cutwater then honestly we probably can't be friends. I already love Cutwater canned cocktails so finding out their distillery is actually here in San Diego immediately made me want to go. I came with a group of friends mainly for drinks but the food sounded surprisingly good too so we ended up ordering both. First off this place is BEAUTIFUL. It has that bar vibe but still feels really nice and put together like a restaurant. Parking was rough because it was super busy but while waiting for a table we walked around looking at the merch and canned cocktails they sell there. Even the restroom was nice. Everything just felt really well designed. Right now they're doing a tequila season menu so we started with the Mexican Candy Shot. So good. It comes in this cute little clay cup with chamoy and tajin and honestly was one of my favorite things we tried. I also got the frozen mango margarita and loved it. It comes in a mango margarita Cutwater can with chamoy and tajin on the rim plus one of those chamoy candy straws. Super cute and actually really good too. The biggest surprise though was the arroz con leche drink. Someone else ordered it and I immediately wished I got one too. It literally tastes like arroz con leche but with tequila and somehow works perfectly. The presentation was also gorgeous. For food, the pork bulgogi fries were probably my favorite thing we ate. Huge portion with lots of meat, fries, cheese, and chives underneath that made everything taste even better. The buffalo wings were solid too. The only thing we didn't really love was the Jamaican jerk chicken flatbread. It sounded amazing on the menu but ended up being kind of dry and underwhelming. You could taste the rum barbecue sauce and seasoning but it just needed something more. Overall though this was such a fun spot. Workers were super friendly and even let us place a really last minute food order after last call which we appreciated. I'd definitely come back for drinks and happy hour with friends. read more

Was my first time here and I was lucky enough to get the Halloween menu. Gotta say their presentation of the murder of the crow was amazing. Cute. I mean, do you see that cage and the little crow? calamari was tasty and spot on enjoyed it, and I got murder of crows in serial painkiller but the thing is I think I enjoyed the murder of crows far much more better if you look at the pic for a serial painkiller that's spiky ice thingy is actually made of sugar. intriguing all the ingredients seemed amazing on paper. but I just had so much more fun with the murder of crows they give you a little sage on it so I pluck the sage and rubbed of course because it gives you a good scent went very well with actual taste of the drink. all in all, staff was tentative atmosphere was clean.
