The entire salon staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. On the other hand, the makeup application was highly disappointing. The artist was disengaged and lacked professional warmth. More importantly, the execution was poor; the foundation looked caked on, highlighted my fine lines, and photographed with a strange orange hue.

It's long but worth the read! I had extremely dry hair when I first went to YH Salon and I was always told (no matter what salon I went to) that deep conditioning treatments were what I needed. But guess what? Those were only temporary fixes & my hair always went back to dry and brittle forcing me to try & but more products- always more expensive and not working! I came to this salon on a recommendation from a friend. My first time there I got the Essential Blowout performed by their Junior stylist, Moni. She did a beautiful job!! Best Blowout I ever got! It lasted a few days and my scalp didn't feel oily afterwards because (as she explained) they use their own Essential Rinse product in btwn wash & condition. She told me it was an all natural product that acts like a toner for my scalp. It removes the residue from the products, actually making the shampoo and conditioner work BETTER. (I like the sound of that) After that, I decided to try them for a haircut. After discussing with the front desk how I like to wear my hair, I was paired up with senior stylist, Cheryl. She did my cut in record time and it was perfect! She recommended a product that she liked (and it smelled amazing) but didn't force it on me, which is good bc I hate when they do that LOL and what happened when I left the salon shocked me so much that I am now a forever client. EVERY place I went since getting my haircut with Cheryl, ppl have complimented my hair!! That's NEVER happened. Even after I washed it and styled it on my own, people noticed and complimented. If you really want to save your hair or keep it shiny, beautiful and super healthy-- I suggest doing what they say! They carry great product lines that actually work like Rene Furterer (I've been using the Okara shampoo & Karite pre-wash oil), Rahua, and now just found out they will be the exclusive Tribeca retailer for Kevin Murphy! So to conclude, I just want to say Thank you to Younghee and her incredible staff for everything they've done for my hair and for making me feel confident and FEMININE again!!

The location is great if you have a car. If not, it's about a 10 minute walk off the Q from Dekalb. Overall, the neighborhood is nice and quiet, but parking is bad everywhere. Myrtle has parking only one one side of the street so that's a bit rough. Come early if you're driving. The color was a lot brassy for me at the roots and I had to ask for a root shadow to bring them down. I'm grey so pretty sure that's what it was, but don't be afraid to ask them to fix it if it isn't what you want. The ladies were LOVELY. And TBH, I have so missed an old school hair salon experience. I have a salon in DC but not for color. I can't be the only one sick of salon suites smh. There are some power issues in the area, but despite technical difficulties the ladies were attentive and friendly. Healthy hair is my jam, so I encourage anyone looking for a transformation to try them out. Loved it!!! I never recognized myself despite my love of anyone with beautiful red hair, but I have always gone back to blonde! I must be the most difficult blonde in NYC, maybe the world, and have been getting highlights for 16 years, always changing salons (I'm that person to stop a fellow blonde on the subway and ask where they go) and never happy with anything the way I was at home in CT. Well, I can't go home to CT every time I need my hair done, the prices are really the same as in New York - and I literally have no time - until one day I found Marianna through someone on Instagram!! OMG. Like another reviewer said, It took me 8 years living in NYC to find someone I trusted with blonde hair! First of all, she is super cool and I go there because I also really like hanging out with her! Second - she listens, and hears all my insane ideas - and I love her because we talk through it and she explains what every term means - I look through photos I saved and she explains what blending vs dimension means, or lifting vs single process, or ice white vs vanilla white (haha!) and we will talk about how I normally wear my hair, what is my typical day like - (I can be super lazy and throw it in a bun and call it effort) - so she really works backwards with me to see what I am wanting - or if I have events coming up, or how much time I really need between appointments - and I really respect that because I feel like anywhere else is always trying to get your money!! This is NYC, I don't have all that money!! lol Anyway, Marianna is AMAZINGNESS and truly goes above and beyond and I love that she has her own salon, which is bright and pink and fun; it's just very cozy and quaint but perfect after a busy day, or even at 8am for a full highlight and root lift...
