Ilda has been practicing floral design for 20 years and is incredibly talented. She used beautiful flowers from different parts of the world, since they weren't all in season in the states. Ok, trying to get around to the recaps of my wedding vendors! I have been quite the naughty/negligent Yelper lately. Blumgarten was fantastic. I absolutely adored my bouquet (will post photo). Every flower arrangement and boutenniere and bouquet were perfect and exceeded my expectations. I did not have a large budget for flowers but you would not have known it from the elegance and class in every single arrangement. My table centerpieces were understated and elegant - I was so not into the giant, view-obstructing centerpieces - and at $25 a table were extremely budget-friendly. I would highly recommend Blumgarten to any bride with any range of budget - small or large, Blumgarten will do a fabulous job. Their customer service is terrific, too. Ooooooh the flowers. Gorgeous, stunning, amazing. A little back story: I originally was having Flora do my flowers for the wedding. They had good reviews and I had heard good things but was feeling a bit uneasy after my consultation. I finally coughed up the dough and asked them to make a mock-up. When I saw it, I did my best to smile and hide the sheer panic shock going through my head. I immediately left hideous bouquet in tow. The next day I called Blumgarten & Co. and spoke with the lovely Sunny. Sunny saved my life. When she asked when I wanted to meet I (still panicking) said "Today?!" I went in and she laid all my fears to rest. She took my ideas and ran with them and added elements that made my ideas even better. All day all I heard was how beautiful the flowers were. One of my girlfriends who was married the year before pulled me aside and said "I'm so mad. I didn't even know flowers could look like that! Why didn't you tell me so my flowers could be this good?!?" They were absolutely stunning, and the wedding was two weeks ago and my little sister said she just threw out her bridesmaid bouquet yesterday! Okay, the bad news: Nearly all of the boutonnieres broke by the end of the night. They did have fiddle head ferns which apparently are a little fragile; and the moms tie-on wrist-lets were kind of a mess. BEAUTIFUL but one was so heavy it kept flipping over under her wrist and the other one kept falling out of the tie! Boo. Blumgarten & Co left me in joyous awe with my wedding bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets, this past June. I visited the store, unplanned, and Michelle was available, so we had an impromtu mini-consultation. I was so clueless, and had no reference photos of what I wanted. I just knew I wanted a big, cascading bouquet with mainly creme-colored flowers. I didn't even think of the flower types/names. Eventually, I emailed Michelle some pictures of what I envisioned my bouquet to be, as well as the bridesmaids, and she prepared a proposal a couple of days later. The money spent, was well-worth it. I paid about $840 for my wedding bouquet, 6 bridesmaid bouquets, and 8 boutonnieres. Words cannot express how happy we are that the staff here went above and beyond for our daughter and son in laws wedding. Planning a wedding was hard enough and we had a specific 2020 Gatsby theme for March however the week before is when everything had to be rescheduled. The staff went above and beyond to recreate a fairy garden outdoor wedding while still maintaining a gatsby theme! From the bouquets to the table decor it was absolutely stunning! Another one of my favorite vendors, Blumgarten. They did an AMAZING job. I was so happy with the flowers, at first I was the type, oh I don't need to spend a ton of money on flowers, they just get thrown away, but my mom is a huge flower person and convinced us otherwise and I am SO glad. We worked with Sunny at Blumgarten and she got "us" right away and what we were going for. The few other places we met with didn't get "us", like at all. One place sent us a proposal with huge grecian columns and draping ivy, ummm, well that is pretty and all but not the look we personally were going for. I had seen a mock-up of the centerpieces but never for the bouquets, I was a little nervous but knew Sunny could rock it and oh yeah she did! Loved my bouquet and I didn't know exactly what was in there, some peonies, ranunculus, artemisia (LOVED that, it brought in the gray) mini hydrangeas, vernonica. Varying shades of green for the bridesmaids, hypericum berries, artemesia again, kermit mums and mini versions for the flower girls (they looked SO adorable). We had one large dogwood arrangement at the church and that was it, we let the architecture be the main focus. We had a similar and larger dogwood arrangement at the entrance to the reception in front of the fireplace. Sadly I don't have a picture, I would have loved to see it with all the favor boxes displayed but by the time we arrived they had been picked up. And the tables, they were GORGEOUS, perfect! Sadly, again, I don't have any great pictures. Sunny and Michelle were a joy to work with and I couldn't have been happier, yes, it is expensive and maybe on the higher end for flowers but it was totally worth it. They were even sweet enough to bring paper for our guests to take the flowers home in (I was worried about them being wasted). read more

Wow :( The worst florist ever contacted in my life. I call them day before Valentines Day 2020 to send an arrangement to someone for delivery on Valentines Day. I spoke to the owner/manager Ms. Ilda Orozco and gave her the "visa gift card" number and associated exp. date and CVS code. I let her know specifically, that it was a VISA Gift Card and not my personal visa charge card, and she said she would call or text if there was a problem. Three days later, I never hear from the person I sent the arrangement to, I never received a phone call or text from Glumgarten & Co. that there was a problem, and when I finally got Ms. Orozco on the phone monday morning, she had in fact NOT sent the arrangement and said they do not accept "visa gift cards" valid or not. There was no remorse, no customer service, nada........... If you are looking for a reliable florist in the Chicago area, THIS IS NOT THE FLORIST TO CALL. read more

I worked with Blumgarten during my search for a wedding florist. I would highly recommend them for a special event florist for many reasons. Michelle was responsive when I inquired about a meeting and she met us pretty late (like 5:30 or 6:00) to accommodate our work schedules. Her vision was SPOT on. She was honest if certain things wouldn't work together and made amazing suggestions that were absolutely perfect. Her initial proposal came in a bit out of my budget, and she re-worked the proposal in one day to get it much closer to a price I was comfortable with. My only complaint, and it isn't worth deducting a star for, it took time to get a proposal. She was very honest that I should follow up with them if I hadn't heard back in two weeks, and after I followed up, it took a few more days. This seems to be a theme in the wedding industry, and it can get very frustrating. However, I had an amazing experience with Blumgarten and Michelle both before and after the proposal, and I highly recommend them if you're searching for the best florist. read more

Blumgarten was recommended highly by a dear friend of mine who used them for her wedding a few years back. This friend has impeccable taste, so I knew that we had to go meet Ilda and check out her work! I felt that Ilda understood my vision right off the bat. I wanted unique, but also romantic and bridal at the same time. I showed her a few pictures at our meeting, and then she took it from there. I also didn't have a huge budget, but she was still able to give me exactly what I wanted. We incorporated lots of mercury glass and I was just thrilled with our game plan. About 6 months before the wedding, she emailed me just to check in and thank me for choosing them to do our flowers. I thought that this was just above and beyond. She had really taken the time to make me feel special and well taken care of. I had requested that the bouquets and boutonnieres be delivered to my hotel suite a few hours before the event. She was incredibly accommodating, and even had them in early, so I hadn't even thought to worry. My bouquet was exactly what I had asked for (as were the other bouquets and boutonnieres and corsages). When I walked into the venue, her exquisite work took my breath away. It was above and beyond any expectation that I had for my centerpieces. It was just so beautiful! I also met the staff when they came to take everything down at the end of the wedding, and they were so kind and professional. Lance is a creative genius. Blumgarten did the flowers for my wedding and they were spectacular. We planned the wedding from NYC, so we were only able to meet with Lance once. The consultation session was perfect. We talked about what we wanted the flowers to feel and look like then we talked about what might and might not be available to us when it was wedding time. We took pictures at the consultation meeting and the flowers we received on our wedding day blew me away! The bouquets and arrangements were spectacular. We had a small wedding (approx. 80 guests) and a small budget to boot (about $2,000), which made me worried at first that a company that does flowers for Oprah wouldn't give us the time of day. Not at all. From the first phone call, I found the staff to be extremely friendly, helpful, and patient. We had our consultant with Michelle, who was knowledgeable and fun to work with, not to mention extremely professional and prompt with all calls and correspondence. The flowers were gorgeous. If you've ever walked into their shop near Harpo Studios, you know that they work in a wonderland of exquisite flowers, but even the tiniest arrangement at our wedding showed full proof of the quality of their materials and work. However... a friend of mine just sent me an arrangement for my birthday and it is FABULOUS! Two perfect peonies (my favorite!) who's color is like none other I've seen, along with bright yellow rononculous and a generous display of tulips. Blumgarten was great! We met with Lance - the genius behind Blumgarten - and just loved how he took our theme of wine/vineyard and came up with so many great ideas. The week before our wedding we were feeling a little nervous about the final details and they insisted we come in to meet with Lance to ease our minds. We got to sit down face to face and finalize the details...which were perfect! The day of our wedding, Lance and his assistant came on time and with the perfect bouquets. I absolutely loved mine and my sister's, who was the maid of honor. It got better as I walked down the aisle to get married under a gorgeous arch he put together for us. Blumgarten created the bouquets and arrangements for our October, 2010 wedding. My only recommendation after working with them is to use them only if you DO NOT have a very specific style in mind. We had a very unique color palette (plum, navy and gray), which I think was difficult to translate into flowers. Lance did have a great idea to incorporate peacock feathers, but when I walked into the reception and saw what looked like Indian feathers in our centerpieces...well, let's just say I wish I had more time to run around and yank those out! Overall, the flowers looked great, but I spent a LOT of time emailing him so that we picked the best flowers to represent the palette and our vintage wedding theme (I hate roses, lilies, etc. and wanted to use only in-season flowers to keep the cost down). There was just a lot of emailing and following up because email communication was very slow on their end (I'm assuming, because of the large number of events they provide flowers for each year!). I did absolutely love my bouquet though. Lance allowed me to incorporate my grandfather's dahlias (HUGE money saver there!) into my bouquet, and he did put-up with my 1000 mind changes! I just joined yelp for the sole purpose of warning people DO NOT USE THIS FLORIST. I don't care how beautiful their arrangements may be (I wouldn't know) or that Oprah herself uses them - if I could give them negative or even zero stars, I would. On Monday morning I ordered an arrangement for my husband's sister's funeral. The funeral was on Tuesday evening. They just called me now - Friday - telling me they made a mistake and the flowers never got delivered and was there a forwarding address they could send them to? wtf?? People - you'd think you could get it together enough to deliver a simple bouquet to someone's funeral. We are highly considering having our wedding flowers done by Blumgarten as they have done weddings at our venue in the past and have a great reputation for beautiful flowers AND working within a budget. While I haven't consulted with them yet, I will say that they have been very supportive via email and even sent a price list so I could get a ballpark figure. This really sold me because most places give you the "each event is unique and we will craft a proposal to fit your needs so we can't give you an idea on price just yet" spchiel. I totally get and respect that but you must have some idea on pricing - Blumgarten does! - which would be helpful. They have the sweetest staff of true artists, who clearly care about what they do and take pleasure in making you happy through flowers. I took a floral design class with Lance and Emily last week and highly recommend both their work as florists and the class. They provide the flowers, vases, materials, knowledge and even treats (yummy ones too). You bring yourself and, if wanted, a bottle of wine. Our class was supposed to be 2 hours and lasted at least 2 1/2 because Lance was so passionate about making sure we had the perfect flowers and walked away with a better understanding of floral design. My daughter knew in her mind what type of flower arrangements she wanted for her wedding and Ilda totally understood. Ilda did a wonderful job and was a pleasure with whom to work. We worked with Michelle at Blumgarten for our wedding in June, and it was a WONDERFUL experience. From our meeting at the shop in Pilsen to delivery the day of the wedding, everything worked like clockwork and the arrangements were stunning. I don't know the first thing about flowers, so I didn't really know what I wanted. It still came together more beautifully than I could imagine. Blumgarten really does more than just flowers - Michelle designed and arranged our entire centerpieces (floating candles, bouquets, etc) and the reception hall looked so great. Michelle worked within my budget, but given how easy she was to communicate and work with, I'm confident that if we had needed to make adjustments, we could have very easily done so. Ilda and her team did an incredible job on flowers for our April wedding. She incorporated ranunculus, roses, hydrangea and greenery into some of the most beautiful arrangements I'd ever seen. She even helped make things sentimental - she used one of my grandfather's ties to wrap my bridal bouquet. I'm getting the flowers preserved so I can hang on to them. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FLORIST. DO NOT USE THEM. I had made a consultation appointment with them and the woman whom I spoke with was rude to begin with. Then before the consultation I had called to make sure that it was a go and the designer whom I had the consultation with was apparently not there. the person who I talked to on the phone did not have any information, was incredibly rude on the phone and could not give me a straight answer. I was told that they would call me later on to give me specifics and NEVER got a call back regarding the consultation. It was a complete waste of my time because I ended up waiting around to hear back from them, never heard back, and then had to go with another florist last minute which was incredibly stressful. If you want courteous, friendly, organized, and professional florists to do arrangements for your event, GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE. They have none of these traits regardless of if they do Oprah's flowers or not. read more

I highly recommend Blumgarten as a special event florist. Blumgarten did the flowers for our wedding last week, and I was very pleased with the service and with the finished product. We had a relatively small wedding (about 100 guests, give or take and a small wedding party), and my flower scheme was pretty simple -- roses and callas, both in-season/seasonless, so no huge cost there. The flowers were on the higher end of what I was looking to spend, but they certainly worked within the range. (About $2400, which, as another poster noted, is pretty small potatoes for a Chicago wedding!) The flowers themselves were absolultey wonderful and held up very well. (My sister saved a bunch of flowers from the reception and set them up in our apartment where we enjoyed them for days.) Several people asked where I found the florist as they were very impressed. However, the service was the BEST part. We booked Blugarten only about 5 months in advance, although for a Friday wedding. We were able to set up an appointment for a consultation promptly, and the I felt that the consultant (Lance) "heard" us and understood what we wanted out of the flowers. We received a written estimate in a few days, and they were good with adjusting to our specifications. We spoke to two or three people at the shop and everyone was courteous and professional. On the day of the wedding, my husband-to-be picked up my hair flowers in advance of my hair appointment. They were the wrong color. I called to ask if anything could be done -- this with my hair appt. in only 30 minutes. They didn't actually have what I needed, but they went out and found them and then had them delivered to my salon, all in time to complete my hair. And all of this was after I told them to forget it -- not having flowers in my hair wouldn't have killed me -- but they insisted on doing something. Also, they refused to let me pay for the additional flowers. That is great service! read more

What I picked up 20 minutes later was breathtaking. Went to a class tonight - and loved it! Lance is terrific! He spent a lot of time discussing the various flowers and different types of stems - how to care for them - and what could be done with them. He took a calla lily and twirled the stem into a circle and floated it in a shallow footed bowl. Lovely! We had lots of choices in vases and flowers - pretty much the run of the shop! Michelle at Blumgarten did our flowers for our wedding a month ago and they were GORGEOUS. About 2 months before the wedding (we were on a shorter than average timeline), we met with her and went through her basement of decorative vases and table décor, and pulled together the look we were going for. I was not a very picky bride, just had a loose idea of what I like and the overall look I was going for. Michelle was really good at asking the right questions to understand what I meant, and then ran with it. I could not be happier with how everything turned out. The bouquets were delivered on time to the hotel room where my bridesmaids and I were getting ready. When we got to the venue, the table settings were in place and really elevated the look of the room. All of the arrangements were exactly what I wanted but so much better than I ever envisioned. Michelle was so calm and nice and easy to work with. She came to our walkthrough and weighed in on all kinds of room décor decisions including linens patterns and table placement, and you could just tell she has a talent for visualizing how everything will come together. We didn't commit a big budget to wedding flowers, so maybe I should've expected the treatment we got. The sales/contract contact was just generally rude in any interaction we had, the floral specialist was nice though. They took us off their schedule without telling us because they didn't have something they needed signed but hadn't sent to us. They didn't call to let us know they were removing us from the schedule, I found out when I called to confirm the delivery time. Since our order was small, they put us back on the schedule. We didn't have a strong idea of what we wanted for the bouquets & the florist was excited about a flower we weren't familiar with, but sounded really cool, coxcomb. But then the a couple days before our wedding the sales contact called & said they couldn't get the flower for the price they quoted me so we should pick something other than coxcomb. We went with roses, which were looked fine. But what's the point of having a contract with the price, when they can call 48 hours before the wedding and say that the price won't cover the flowers? read more
