Quant little coffee shop. Offers plenty of choices for coffee. A breakfast menu is available but I was unable to try it this morning. I got the caramel mochicchino. It's decent tasting. A bit too milky for me. Not too sweet but no caramel drizzle. I paid over $4 for a medium size. There are fresh made breads such as banana loaf and coffee cakes! I was not wanting a pastry today but maybe next time I'll get a pastry instead. read more

Delicious chai tea and amazing cookies! Such a wide variety of menu items as well as items for your sweet tooth. We had the chocolate gooey cookie and the strawberry gooey cookie. Both were amazing. Stopping in Memphis for the day and was trying to find a coffee place that had soy milk as an option. Found this place and ordered a medium iced soy latte which somehow cost over $6... Soy milk was 75¢ which I have never seen in my life. Despite how overpriced this coffee was they still managed to fill most of the cup up with ice, so much so that it was hard to get my straw in. Gem of the Bluff City!! I always get a breakfast sandwich because WHO doesn't like breakfast for every meal?!?! The bread is always fluffy, cheese melty, the eggs not overdone, and the sausage is just greasy enough and adds a bit of extra flavor. It all adds up to the cure for whatever ails you, or just to get you to the next level if you're already doin great! I have previously been disappointed by their cafe au laits.... which I thought was watery, so now I always go with their deliciously tasty lattes. Guh. Just writing this review makes me want one. Plenty of coffee aroma and flavor settled by the sweetness of steamed milk. Oh and this time I got a delicious Nutella almond twist cake. It was delightful. Substantial but airy, with plenty of Nutella goodness in between layers. I brought it into the office the next morning and it was gone by 11am. Visited the coffee shop since it not far from my office and today was a upsetting and disappointing experience. I placed my order and my total was higher than normally for the same items. I asked about the increase and received no explanation. Once my order was prepared, I asked for a bag since I had to walk back to the office ( I normally have to ask) but today the cashier placed the bag on the counter next to my purchased items. I then asked that she placed the items in the bag and she repeated the same motion ( picked the bag up and put it on the counter) I then asked for a refund...an older man, who said he is the owner stated I was making to much of a big deal about a bag. I told him don't worry about it and just give me my refund. The cashier use profanity and call me a 'f@cking d*ck' as I was walking out of the door. WOW! I'm going to be honest, from the reviews, I wasn't expecting much. But after my boyfriend brought me here (it was both of our first times), I really really liked it! We actually came two days in a row since we were in the area. The first time here we ordered the lemon gooey butter, which was okay, I wasn't really blown away but I liked the size of the cookie and the price (around a dollar and some cents). The next day we came we got a cappuccino and a dirty Chai, both were really good, and the matcha gooey butter and pumpkin cookie. Now, the matcha gooey butter, holy moly, probably one of the best gooey butter cookies I've had and I've had lots. Honestly, that stole the show and I'd come back just for that. But then she was like WE HAVE A 30 MINUTE MAX for dining here and you can't use our wifi, we don't have wifi. First of all ma'am, I had my own MIFI internet with me. Stopped in here for a bite to eat before we left town and it was a great choice. The staff was super helpful and it was a nice relaxing environment. I ordered a dirty chai and despite my hatred of the flavor of coffee, it was delicious. I also had a bagel and a chocolate chip cookie which was the fluffiest cookie I've ever eaten in my life - highly recommend! One of the people with us ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and she said it was delicious but also she wasn't ready for the amount of spice. PSA: if you are from colorado, your medium spice = Memphis mild. She said she'd do it again because the sandwich was good so that's very telling! I've dropped by this little coffee shop on South Main a few times. It's grown on me and I like it a lot. I have had some of the pastries, but I'm there for their coffee. The coffee drinks are good. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They don't rush you out, which is nice, so you can relax, enjoy your coffee, work on your laptop (free wifi), read, etc. I thought the place was clean and well kept. There's some interesting decor inside, as well. I always judge a coffee shop by how well they take care of the milk and sugar section. I think they do a fine job here. read more

Bluff City Coffee has awesome staff and service and great coffee! But they have expanded into more of a bakery in the past year, providing more savory breakfast options, all homemade afternoon snacks (cookies, brownies and other sweet treats) and they have a booth at the Memphis Farmers Market this season where they are selling assorted breads, whoopie pies, cinnamon rolls and other miscellaneous goodies that come out of Chef Jason Doty's Bluff City Bakery kitchen downtown. And during the holidays, I bought several whole pies, which were incredible! They have free wi-fi so I can sit and get my work done during the day and feel interactive and productive since I work from home most days. They also have a free loyalty program where you can receive a free drink after so many purchases. read more

Folks at other shops always look at me funny when I ask for a shot of expresso in my chai, but Bluff City has it on the menu, it's amazing, and makes me happy! It's hard to resist all the fun treats as well. The chocolate chip scone is delicious and perfect. Prices are comparable to other places, but the drinks and goodies are definitely more unique. Decent little coffee shop in the South Main Historic District! My husband and I were visiting his brother who moved to Memphis a few months ago! He was at work, so we did a full-on tourist day downtown, which included exploring the South Main Historic District. We wandered and needed a bit of a break, so we stopped for some coffees at Bluff City. It was a pretty basic coffee shop, but the coffee tasted good (although my cappuccino was way, way, way too hot) and it's in a great location! Had the Golden Kellie on ice (espresso, honey, oat milk and cinnamon), ham/swiss/egg breakfast sandwich on a croissant, lemon gooey cookie heated up and raspberry pop tart heated up. My partner had a large house coffee with a sausage/cheddar/egg sandwich on a garlic/cheddar biscuit. So freaking good. All of it. The pastries were homemade for sure. The pop tart is like raspberry preserves inside of a perfect pie crust pocket with icing on top. The portion sizes for the prices are incredible. Will be back for sure. read more

Ordered a turkey sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich and a Golden Kelli latte. The breakfast sandwich was amazing! You have the option of a bagel (wheat,sesame, etc) or a croissant. I picked a wheat bagel and it was delicious! There were two pieces of turkey sausage, so it was very filling. The latte was good as well, but I could barely taste the honey. The employees were friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. I went on a Thursday afternoon, around 2, and it was not too crowded. I would definitely return for more food in the future. read more

The only reason I'm giving a 4 rather than a 5 is that they were not able to provide ingredients for food that was in their fridge for purchase-- so, not perfect-- but they were great, and perhaps if I had not arrived so close to kitchen close, they might have been able to provide the information. Customer service was excellent even though I was somewhat "extra" because I had not visited before and was also purchasing for a co-worker. We briefly discussed the merits of different teas, and I was given an excellent recommendation. (The coffee smelled good, but I was not there for that.) My husband and I are visiting Memphis for a few days and have been in search of good/great coffee every morning. I made the mistake of getting it from the restaurant (Bishop) in our hotel (The Central Station) on the first morning. It tasted a lot like hospital coffee. Not really drinkable, but I always say that bad coffee is better than no coffee. Day 2 I went to Hustle & Dough. It was very good; however, they have extremely limited options there. They didn't even have soy milk. Day 3 I ventured into Bluff City Coffee...this is the place. The options were tremendous, the service was pretty good (nothing special; thus, the 4 stars), and the coffee was duh-licious. Day 4 will be my last morning here, and I will not be trying any other locations. I'll be headed back to BCC. This time I'll be trying some of those fabulous looking pastries. Key lime cake? The inside of the place isn't necessarily great, it looks recently finished, but doesn't seem quite right. Or the hipster sipping an organic sugar free soy villana latte and reading the latest New York Times Best Seller that the aspiring author hopes to write. This place is just missing the obnoxious businessmen and women on their wireless headsets boasting about crap they want everyone around them to hear. This place is missing all the elements that make up the usual popular coffee shop, but maybe it's because of this that this place is truly a diamond in the rough. Hubby and I went here today for lunch after touring the National Civil Rights Museum, which is about a block away. I wanted to experience a Memphis coffee shop (that wasn't a chain) and eat some local grub (the online menu looked really good). Well....my experience here was less that welcoming. The guy (and I didn't get his name) working the register kind of stared us blankly when we walked up the register. It was one of the most sureal experiences of my life when half way through talking to him to give he my order he said "Oh I'm sorry I spaced out there for a moment," I've heard of a 'space cadet' but have never really met one until now. Finally we were able to give this dude our order, but we had to do it on his agenda and he wasn't very good at answering questions. It was like we were interupting a robot. I do have have to say one good thing about the spacey guy, he is a good technical barista. My medium latte with three shots was quite tasty. For lunch Hubby had a hummus, blt on wheat and I had a grilled cheese. We both had sides of slaw. Slaw in Memphis is vinegar based and it was good slaw if you like that sort of slaw. The pickles were excellent. The sandwiches were good. They had some Coke products in bottles, which made my Diet Coke loving hubby very happy. He likes to have a carbonated option. We opted to have dessert and I must say the Honey Cake I had was wonderful. That would get a 5. Hubby had a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie that was good. The ladies lou was out of paper towels. My knitting group would not find this a welcoming place to hang out, and it lacked that energy of a coffee house. I would say this was a place a get coffee and go and a lot of folks were doing that. At lunch time, I would have expected more people to be eating. Glad I had the opportunity to experience a Memphis coffee shop, since I haven't been able to find many for a city this size, and the grumpy, spacey barista was an experience to remember. read more

I popped into Bluff City Coffee on a very hot summer day after my car broke down just yards away. As I sat waiting for my hubby, I ended up here, slouched in a comfy chair, enjoying a yummy blueberry scone and sipping an iced coffee. The barista was really nice and friendly and offered to heat my scone in the microwave, which I promptly took him up on. My order was ready very quickly. Secretly, I was almost glad that my car broke down so close to this place. They had a lunch menu on the board and all of it looked great, but I stuck to my blueberry scone. The other pastries looked divine too- it was hard to choose what I wanted. I also loved the cute coffee mugs they have for sale here.
