Now on to the sushi: The touch of black sesame seeds were an unexpectedly pleasant addition--they really titillated the taste buds. However, the seaweed was slightly sticky which made it difficult for the seaweed to travel down my esophagus. Sometimes it seemed as if the seaweed wanted to stay in my throat. The rice even had real crab on it and had some sort of spicy mayo on it, super good. 8 pieces of fresh tuna sashimi, ultra good. I went to tokyo express the other night and 8 pieces was 16 dollars, :(. Everything else that the group had was all one of the best sushi dishes that they ever had. Favorite sushi place in kelowna so far being a native born foodie from Calgary. Blue tail has very inventive and creative flavorful dishes. The Brussels sprouts dish is a must try. The pork/tuna belly roll is very flavorful and delicious with simple ingredients. The price point is very reasonable. I could have easily spent double this amount in Calgary for something less tasty. Went with my cousin yesterday and enjoyed our lunch. It wasn't an "Amazing" experience, but I would go back. The food was tasty, the service was decent. We ordered: Sunomono salad - I've never had it with fruit before. I enjoyed it. Beautiful presentation. Chicken teriyaki roll, yam roll, dynamite roll - the tempura shrimp in the dynamite roll was soggy when it should have been crunchy. The rolls are on the small side, but they are only $5 each so... Vegetable tempura - 8 pieces, all different veggies, perfectly battered. Lovely presentation I enjoyed my experience, but I definitely think they could make the rolls a bit bigger. GF had lunch with her sister said it was good so I took her and a friend out for dinner well... I have to say I was very disappointed not only was the service mediocre at best but the food was poor my buddy and I ordered the surf and turf the steak was ok but small and the seafood was way overdone and small to no wasabi or ginger with the sushi and forget about getting another beer. This was our first visit to the Spall location, with friends who had been a couple of times before and recommended it. Score would be 4.5 if we could rate 1/2 marks; demerits due to some wear and tear in the space. Overall though a very pleasant dining space, an impressive & extensive menu (food & drinks), excellent service with thorough attention and care for dietary requirements (celiac) and delicious food at better than fair prices. The location is a little bit tucked away with a good amount of parking. We live in the lower mainland and Bluetail would compete well with many of the great places there. I'm surprised by the reviews that mention poor service, missing condiments and small portions - perhaps that's at the Enterprise location? Our experience was exactly opposite that and we'll definitely return for dinner next time we're in Kelowna. read more

I was recommended by a good client to try Bluetail. She did not lead me astray at all! I had the new style sashimi and it was so fresh and well-seasoned that neither my dinner companion nor I cracked open the soy sauce. I had the "mini" burgers which were actually full size - delicious salmon, tuna and shrimp, but very filling. For the excellent quality, I expected to pay more, but the pricing was similar to an average sushi restaurant. The location is a significant drive from downtown, but it is more than worth it! read more

I only order takeout from this place. Food is fresh and tasty. However, I have found that they have become more and more expensive over the last year. First, service was terrible. Mistake on orders and had to remind server several times, when brought back the second time it was still the wrong order. Second, food was absolutely below average. In other words, it was terrible. Though, the only thing that is good, is the Brussel sprouts. I would not recommend this place whatsoever. Really interesting presentation, excellent service and fresh fish made this lunch a five star affair. We ordered from the lunch menu and got their take on fish and chips and two maki rolls. Two kinds of fish were lightly battered and hot from the fryer...just the way it should be. We chose the Unagi maki and the seared salmon. Both were fresh and flavourful. This venue was picked out of pure convenience. What an amazing surprise. Food menu was extensive. Staff were on point and friendly, quick with a suggestion or review of dishes. The food itself was fantastic, presentation and quality were over the top and the prices were super reasonable. The best part was an unbeknownst discount for staying at the super 8 motel across the way. Needless to say the discount was waved on my part and added to the gratuity. Highly recommend!!! read more

I came in for a late lunch around 2pm on a Tues and had a great experience. I'm not a big Yelper so I didn't take pics of my food but it was wonderful. The reason I'm taking the time to write this review is because while I was eating (only one in the restaurant) I noticed the servers using their down time to take apart the booths and clean every inch. I was really impressed. If they take the time to care this much for their dining room I can imagine how they must treat their kitchen. read more

Really enjoyed the food, nice ambiance, good presentation. There's not a lot of seating, but it makes for a more personalized, quicker service instead of waiting for 5-6 tables ahead of your order. Had the beef tataki and Godzilla roll and wasn't disappointed. The tataki was delicious and the citrus sauce with it was perfect. Disappointing and disgusting. Got 4 Ebi nigiri and the shrimp was dried out and hard and the gyoza tasted like garbage. I didn't eat anymore after first bite because I'm afraid to get food poisoning at 7 months pregnant. Called to complain and person on phone was rude. Wasted over 20$ for one bite of spoiled old food that has probably been sitting there unrefrigerated all day by the taste. hands down best authentic ramen in town and at the time of this posting I've tried them all and only Bluetail Sushi even comes close (7/10 compared to most local places being 3/10 or 4/10) to the stuff I've had in Vancouver (aka Holy Kingdom of Ramen 10/10 often) on this side of the ocean. Get the Donkotsu (incorrectly spelled Tonkotsu?) with extra noodle and chashu (pork) trust me. Only reasons it's 4 (I'd give 4.5 if I could) stars is they have temperature issues popping out throat-scalding (as it should be *initially*) ramen, sometimes it's only 'warm' by the time it gets to the table. also the pork is a bit chewy at times and the noodles could see some improvement (hence 7/10 though). It also travels well on skip the dishes (which is rare with that otherwise awful service) but usually you gotta zap the broth back up temperature wise. It's best eaten at the restaurant though (spall location only). Additional suggestion to owners: bamboo shoots, black fungus, and naruto (fishcake) would only make the ramen better....that and a better pork source. read more
