B and I came here to have lunch. It is walking from where we were staying. The restaurant is located in a mall with plenty of free parking. I ordered the sashimi Bento box for $17 and he ordered the Tonkatsu ramen and spinach. To spinach is mixed with sesame oil and not the usual peanut sesame flavored spinach that you get at most Japanese restaurant. His broth was good but not creamy or flavorful as expected. The meat is also not the usual kind of meat that you get at a Japanese ramen place. I had my bento box with teriyaki chicken. My only complain is that the chicken would be better if it is not cut up into tiny pieces. I did like the fact that they served high quality wild salmon in the bento box. B also ordered green tea and it was served in a teapot. The tea was not bad. My bento box came with miso soup. For the price, I would say dozo isn't bad. The restaurant was nice and clean. 5 of us went in for supper and 3 of us ordered Ramen. All three had zero flavor. My grandson and I only ate the meat in the soup and my daughter ate hers only bc she felt bad. When we got home and were still hungry my grandson had noodle soup and said " now this is what Ramen should taste like. This is the first sushi place we have visited since moving here, and what a disappointment it was. The quality was amateurish, sloppy, and kind of gross. In my 25 years or so of eating sushi on a regular basis, I have never had a roll simply fall apart, yet all three of ours did. My husband just ate them with a knife and fork because the filling was everywhere. The tuna sashimi tasted nice but looked like the rejected pieces or ends - not uniform - thick on one end, thin on the other, or thin in the middle. Gordon Ramsay would have said, "Get out!" The gyozas were rubbery and flaccid, and the California roll did not taste fresh. It was more like grocery store sushi, like it had been pre-made and put in a fridge until an order came in. Unquestionably, the grossest part was the BC roll, as the salmon skin was not crispy but chewy and slimy, cut in strange little pieces like julienne carrots. My cats wouldn't even eat it (and they LOVE salmon). The best part of the meal was their wasabi, which was super potent. With eating out being more of a rare luxury than it used to be, I urge you to spend your money somewhere else. I wish I'd ordered a pizza and saved a few bucks. read more

In my opinion, this is one of the city's hidden restaurant gems.The sushi is fresh, delicious, and very creatively plated. Some of my favourite sushi in Kelowna, and definitely the most fairly priced for the quality. The main chef is Tony, he is friendly and takes very good care of the customers. Japanese restos are usually my go to if I just want something quick. I ordered their Kick Ass ramen and an order of their Gyoza. Service: 6 out of 10 I came in at 7:30pm and it was relatively busy. They have 2 servers and the place probably have 15-20 tables (4 pax per table). Their staff were very nice and polite butbthe service was slow. For a small restaurant, I didn't think it should have taken me a full hour there. Food: 7 out of 10 The Gyoza was pretty tasty but lacking a little bit of authenticity when it comes to the flavor. But I'd still say it was good! I would order it again. The dipping sauce was too sweet. My main dish: Kick ass ramen The soup base was very mediocre and was actually very bland. I had to add some soy sauce and some of the Gyoza dipping sauve in my soup to make it taste tolerable. Toppings was good, there was a good amount of toppings in my bowl. Overall, I probably would still give them a try again and see what else they have to offer. Their Shio ramen is their best ramen in my opinion. read more

I wish they were open on Mondays, and think it's super odd they aren't. I know so many times I don't want to cook because Ugh Mondays and wish I could order from them! They have a really solid menu, and they are quick to have your order out. The rainbow roll is declious but the proportions are off, and you get large amounts of avocado compared to the sashimi but that's a small complaint. I also will add it's a very small establishment and sometimes you end up waiting. Miso soup was good too. Good sushi place all around. read more

Our family absolutely loves Dozo and we go there quite often. It's so nice that it's so close to our house and It's a great little addition to the North Glenmore neighborhood. It has a nice relaxing atmosphere and you can easily order to go or to stay. Their bento boxes and sushi is amazing and I also love the miso soup. There are a few good Japanese restaurants in this town...on a scale of good, better, and best, this is the one that gets "best." As far as ambience goes, they're all good in their own way and Dozo has a cool contemporary look that doesn't suffer from trying too hard. It looks like this place is decently busy, which is a good indicator. A concise menu satisfies your Japanese tapas restaurant type cravings as well as super fresh sushi. This is noteworthy because you don't often get both at a high level in one restaurant--usually if you want great sushi you need to find a restaurant that specializes in it. My own measure of a restaurant like this centres on ramen and kara age. Having a benchmark of Vancouver ramen shops in mind, my wife and I have been on the lookout for something comparable in this area. Dozo offers the closest competition to that benchmark. The ramen broth is well balanced in that it is thick enough but not heavy and sickening. Other restaurants taste okay, but start to feel gross halfway through. Also, the miso, pork, and seaweed are balanced perfectly in Dozo's ramen. The pork itself is superior, avoiding the tendency for other versions to use bland, lean cuts as if they were an afterthought, like leftover loin chops or something. It's a rich, tender pork full of flavour, and rather than feeling like the meat is just filling me up and making it more difficult to eat the noodles, I really enjoyed it. The kara age was very good as well, crispy but not gross, flavourful but not just salty. So even if you may have to wait a few minutes, Dozo is without a doubt the top Japanese restaurant in town for a ramen shop style meal. read more

I'm not a fan of thanksgiving dinner. Mostly because it all tastes the same and is way to heavy on carbs. Unless I cook or someone like me who takes three days to make the meal and does everything from scratch with proper seasoning and creativity to lift the meal. So most of these meals I end up hardly eating anything and being starving a few hours later. About seven years ago I started making my own food or just bringing something with me. I looked up ramen because it was raining and I was in the mood for soup. This place had good reviews and was less than three blocks from the family we were visiting. When I called to order the girl was very friendly and more than happy to explain the ramen that had a fun name but zero explanation as to what was in it. By the time I drove from the hotel to the restaurant my soup was ready, granted there was only one table of people and it was two in the afternoon. I stood and talked about food with the server and when I left they all smiled and thanked me. My soup stayed hot till five when we ate and they separated the noodles and the broth which is vital. The flavour was meaty and full. The broth was not as umami as some others I've had but it was good. The noodles were firm and not mushy. I really liked the crunch of the uncooked corn kernels as well as the little pop of flavour they added. The pork was not as fatty as I'm used to but I still ate it all so it was good enough. I would have liked to see a little more personality in the soup ingredients. They only had noodles, pork belly, thin strips of seaweed and fresh corn. Even so I would try this soup a second time. I can't speak to the rest of the menu but the ramen and the take out service are both pretty darn good. I enjoyed my thanksgiving meal and that's only fair while everyone else is enjoying there's. read more

Went here today for lunch in a party of 3. Two of us ordered the bento box 1 with a California roll, chicken on rice and tempura as well as salad. The biggest disappointment had to be the California roll. It was not tastey at all lacking mayo and sliced up crab usually within California rolls. Instead it was just a few slices of crab and it tasted very fishy and was not satisfactory. We could barely eat 2 of the 4 pieces. I would not reccomend which is sad because California rolls are usually a staple. The salad was lacking dressing and was not very tastey. However the tempura was okay but the zucchini was very mushy and not satisfactory. The miso was overly salty as well. The only thing that was worth the visit was the chicken on rice which was plentiful however did not include enough sauce and came with nothing other then chicken on rice. Another person in our party enjoyed their rainbow roll and the chicken sishI would say no-jo to dojo And not return due to this disappointing experience. read more

Every time I have eaten there my food is delicious and fresh! It's our favourite place to go!

The service was friendly and prompt - and the tea was great. They throw in a little chocolate when you're given the bill as well. They're also good about customizations as far as I know. However, service can't excuse food. Perhaps I have high sushi standards, coming from the Lower Mainland, but the food was sub par based off of my "deep fried tofu" and LA roll order. I definitely don't recommend the tofu dish, and the rolls were bland. I can't vouch for the other dishes, but unfortunately my experiences weren't remarkable with what I did order. read more

Just moved from Vancouver and we were having a hard time finding a Japanese restaurant that lives up to your favourite places in Vancouver. So far in Kelowna after trying 4 or 5 others, this is our favourite so far. Very delicious, fresh, nicely and neatly rolled, gyoza seemed like they were made in house, nice thin dumpling wrapper, our salmon sashimi was beautiful, bright red and fresh. Sushi was flavourless/ or too salty and the rice was mushy. Ramen soups very similar to packaged ramen with added corn, parsley and peas. Fatty pork. Very weak broth. Chicken wings were coated in a cm. of thick, dark brown crispy coating. Overcooked and greasy. Tempura veggies fine but soft. Way too expensive for this level of kitchen craftsmanship. read more

So far so good! Been eying this place and finally went there today for a basic that I often use to evaluate Japanese restaurants: salmon sashimi on rice. Not on menu, but they totally accommodated. My first experience with Ramen. The noodles were firm not mushy and the broth was delicious. A sprinkle of seaweed on top added a delicate flavor. Quite nice. The hot sauce is made in house and is very spicy. I added two small spoons to my broth and probably should've only used one. However, no complaints. Heard good things about this place, so have been wanting to go here for quite a while. Finally got the chance last week as a part of a six person group. Being a big group, we decided to order as much variety as possible to try out. We had their party platter A, which says take out only on the menu, but they also make for dine-ins. It has 7/8 different rolls, including tuna, salmon, avocado, yam, chicken, beef and deep fried rolls. The deep fried California roll was really good, the tuna and salmon were good as well. Aside from the platter, we also ordered their spider roll, unagi roll, assorted tempura platter and a veggie ramen. The spider roll was amazing, definitely their best item. The unagi roll was a bit salty for my taste. The tempura was standard, nice and crunchy and freshly made. I had also heard that their ramen is very good, the person in our group who had the ramen gives their approval to it. The prices were on the average to higher average side. We ended up very full and the cost coming to around $20 per person. Final verdict, I will go back again when I'm craving sushi and can arrange for a ride. read more
