Perhaps it's the town centre redevelopment but Bracknell town centre is a wasteland for restaurant options. Walking round and talking to a few locals only threw up Burger King, McDonalds and 2 pizza joints Then, a nice lady in the car park told me about Blue's, which used to be the Red Lion pub. Listening to conversation from neighbouring tables during my meal suggested that the Red Lion won't really be missed Big boards outside the pub made great promises of great American BBQ pork inside. Memories of Guy Fieri eulogising about slowly cooked, super moist, falling off the bone American BBQ on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on the Food Network made me salivate when I walked in I was a little greedy and went for a combination of half rack of ribs and brisket with burnt ends. Sadly, the food didn't live up to the promise. Certainly American portion size but the ribs were dry and the brisket didn't have much flavour. The chips were nice and crispy and I liked the BBQ sauces on the table. Coleslaw was so so I did like my Oreo milkshake which was made fresh , One last irritation was the fact I noticed other tables getting a dish of free popcorn but I didn't receive any. When I paid my bill, I asked if I could have some to munch while walking back to the car but the answer was an emphatic no A real shame but perhaps I should have had a Whopper at Burger King

4* food, 2* service. Blue's Smokehouse is the new kid on the block, and given they have only been open a week some teething issues are to be expected I suppose. We rocked up unannounced on a Sunday and were seated straight away. It's brand new so everything is clean and shiny. The decor inside is modern and in keeping with my idea of a cajun smokehouse, however removed from reality that idea might be. Within seconds of being seated our waitress eagerly attempted to take our drinks order. Given I'd only just been handed the drinks menu I elected to take a couple of minutes to look at it. The choice of bottled beers is quite broad with a good mix including a selection of craft beers from the USA. Expect to have to point though, the waitress had no idea of the names of the beers on the menu. While the notepad was out for the drinks order she prompted us to order our food as well. Again I needed a minute to look at the menu so she left us to it while she got our drinks. It wasn't until we had chosen and she came back with the drinks that she elected to tell us that some of the menu items were not available and that if we wanted chicken it would take a while. No biggy but it would have been better to tell us that before we chose, no? Anyway, the food arrived and it was really good. The pulled pork was my favourite but the brisket and the chicken were both excellent as well. Good size portions too. The dessert menu was a bit lacklustre but I'm not really a dessert kinda guy. I opted to round my meal off with one of the craft beers from the USA, only to be told they didn't actually have them in stock yet. I settled for a bottle of Żywiec, because if drinking in Krakow has taught me anything then it is how to pronounce Żywiec. Cue confused look from the waitress and more menu pointing, I can forgive her that one though :) All told I think Blue's has the makings of being a decent restaurant, it's early days and I'm sure once they have been open a while longer the staff will find their feet. The food was good which is the main thing, I'll come back in a few weeks and see if they have realised their 4* potential.

We came here for a meal and thought this place was good. I had a soup for starter and that was good. This was followed by a salmon with a smokey sauce and prawns. For the main course I had a pulled pork with some brisket and fries made from sweet potato and normal fries. There was loads of food and the service was second to none. Our server was a guy called Phil who was excellent. I know this place has not had too many good reviews but the service was fast and the food was good so I don't have any bad things to say about it.

Update: this is definitely the best if the twickenham trio of bbq joints. Staff are quirky but very friendly. Dulce de leche icecream/shake is to die for. Wings excellent. Sweet potato fries great. St louis ribs good. Beans with pulled pork very nice. Avoid the mac and cheese options, and pickles. Update 2: chilli watery, lacking in depth. Corn bowl okay. Slaw good but spicy.

The outside and inside decor look like a really terrible American low-quality food chain and I wasn't excited to try it. But! We had the loveliest waitress, very attentive, very happy to walk through the menu and spot on. The guys had banana milkshakes and I loved that they came with little bright green curly straws - cute to see these manly men with their petite straws. The food was really lovely too. One colleague got the hot dog - it was incredible looking, enormous and slathered with stuff. I did think it would be impossible to eat with your hands, but he proved me wrong. My chicken wrap was really tasty and nicely done, and the fries were delicious - possibly the best I've had in a while. When one friend couldn't finish his sausage platter with mac and cheese, the waitress cheerfully wrapped it up for him so he could carry it away. Nice! The music was terrific, a great mix of old blues. So why oh why is there a big screen telly playing current music videos over the bar, complete with naked writhing women and gangsters? Shut it off - you're ruining the vibe you actually got me to like. Is it cheesy? Yes. But it's supposed to be. And it's good. But shut off that damn tv.

I must have walked passed it hundreds of times as it is nestled under the arches on Brighton seafront right in the middle of the historic fishing quarter, and for some reason I have never ventured in. Anyway, I broke my smokehouse virginity a few weeks ago when me and the boyf popped in after work on a sunny Friday evening and got a bite to eat on the beach. I went for a crab sandwich and he went for a kipper roll. Today I popped back to try their smoked mackerel pate on toast. All the fish is caught locally in Brighton and is smoked by Jack in a small shed opposite the shop. The food is by no means gastronomic but it is hearty, honest food. Yes, the bread could be better, but the fish is the key ingredient and you can't beat eating a fresh meal on the beach just meters from where it was caught. The crab sandwich features entirely brown meat, the most flavoursome in my opinion, and is a steal at £3.50 - I paid three times this for a crab sandwich on a recent trip to Cornwall. The mackerel pate is really delicious - creamy with a hint of warmth from the pepper. On top of this, they sell fish to take home if you are not hungry at the time of your visit. Jack and Linda have been running this smokehouse for what seems like an eternity. They are always happy to chat and obviously love what they do. This place should be top of the list for locals and tourists alike.

A tiny shop nestled in Brighton's fishing quarter, they offer fresh fish to take away and cook at home and daily specials to eat outside on the beach. There's crab sandwiches, grilled kippers, smoked mackerel pate, deep fried white bait and plaice goujons to choose from. I've sampled a few and they've all been lip-smackingly good. Endearingly, you can eat your lunch on the sea-front, in front of the little black smokehouse they built when they moved in. If they're smoking something that day, you might even smell the oak and applewood drifting out of the hut.

Hammer & Tongs - 3 Hour Slow Braai'd Lamb Ribs to share!

I started off with a glass of wine from South Africa. Their wine list and cocktails have South African influence. Price was £7 - £9 for a glass of medium level wines. I was recommended the prawn skewers, cous cous salad and a lamb with apricot skewer. My personal favourite was the prawn skewers. The chefs have peeled the bodies beforehand but left it's head and tail shell intact. It was served with some rocket salad and two difference sauces (in a separate sauce plate) to complement the heat and spice from the prawns. I did not think the separate sauces were that important as I did enjoy the prawns and rockets together. I do like sucking prawn heads, and oh boy, it was juicy. The prawn was well cooked. Loved the combination of chilli in it. It was very tasty and spicy. I must say that £12 for 4 pieces of prawns might be a little steep for a lunch meal. The lamb skewer I had apparently was something new they are about to add their list of sosaties. It definitely smelled good as it was served. On the skewers were about 8 chunks of lamb meat, 6 pieces of apricot and 5 pieces of onions. Juices from the apricot burst into your mouth as you chewed on the fruit. The lamb was also juicy, well seasoned and succulent. It didn't have any bad smell to it, so I thought it was a dish well done. Cous cous salad was refreshing. It came with generous serving of rocket leaves, raisins, pine nuts, cheese and some slices of freshly baked crusty bread. The dessert was fantastic although I must admit I did not see the South African influence in it. I had the dark chocolate mousse served with blackberry compote, yogurt and pumpkin seeds. I spoke to Mark, person in charge when I visited, about this and was told the dessert will be taken off the menu. So the restaurant is definitely taking some positive steps to serving better food and improving the menu. Overall happy with my food here
