It's run by the same people as The Pig and Butcher, but with an experimental twist. Smokehouse is oddly shaped, but a very large space (was probably two different pubs merged together). My friend and I had a reservation and they sat us in the back room by the kitchen. It was more well lit, and there were a few bigger groups as well. Also love that they have a chalkboard telling you exactly which farms every single one of their animals are from. They butcher in house too! We started out with prawn toast with smoked bone marrow and kimchi onions. Just re-read that. What a crazy combination. Throw it all together and you get the crunch of the toast, the gelatinous textures of the bone marrow and some kick from the kimchi. Wonderful. We also split a chopped brisket roll, which was basically a large croquette. Definitely big enough to share, and tasty, especially with the spicy gochujang chili sauce. For my entree, I had the shortrib bourguignon, which was a hefty chunk of beef with mushrooms, fried onions, and of course, bacon. Everything was reasonably priced too (mains were all under £20 each). A great meal all around, but definitely come with an appetite! One of my favorite meals I've ever had in London!

The food was delicious but then the potatoes were too hard and some Of the veggies such as the parsnip was actually hard as well. I went in with high expectations after my Sister claimed that their main restaurant was one of the best in East London. First off, the space is BEAUTIFUL. Taking in the Garden at the back I was already daydreaming about summer evening spent there with friends and family. Looking at the menu I was initially disappointed with the lack of vegetable sides and that there was only one fish dish (but really, what did I expect with a name liked 'Smokehouse' right?). These worries were soon put behind me once the starters and mains arrived. First off, all the dishes come with vegetables and secondly, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THEIR KALE AND ROMAINE LETTUCE SIDES. The kale was DELICIOUS and they had some how managed to make the ol' lettuce a little more appealing with some sort of yummy light sauce. We ordered the Sunday roast Chicken to share and (see photos) it was super super yummy. As it turned colder we were excited to find that they had a basket of blankets outside for the guests to cuddle up into. Who doesn't love that!? We decided to head inside for some tea and dessert and shared their Double D tart which was VERY YUMMY. It wasn't too sweet and was very very satisfying. Ended up coming back the next night with the Grandmother who at first had her doubts (with the veggie sides too!) but at the end of the night couldn't stop praising the food. We came back 2 days after with the rest of the family who absolutely loved it. As it is still fairly new its quite easy to get a table but I wouldn't wait around because this place is such to get jam packed by summer. Gonna be a regular here for sure.. If I'm not already considered one!

Love their garden area. Especially in the summers..it's tucked away and the tables are well spread out. Been here primarily for drinks. The on tap list is impressive. Want to go here for an elaborate whisky tasting. Service gets a little slow and I have found some of them to be quite pushy about orders at times. Impressed with their barman though! V and I had an engaging conversation on single malts with him. Bookmark - trying the Sunday Roast here.

I started off with a glass of wine from South Africa. Their wine list and cocktails have South African influence. Price was £7 - £9 for a glass of medium level wines. I was recommended the prawn skewers, cous cous salad and a lamb with apricot skewer. My personal favourite was the prawn skewers. The chefs have peeled the bodies beforehand but left it's head and tail shell intact. It was served with some rocket salad and two difference sauces (in a separate sauce plate) to complement the heat and spice from the prawns. I did not think the separate sauces were that important as I did enjoy the prawns and rockets together. I do like sucking prawn heads, and oh boy, it was juicy. The prawn was well cooked. Loved the combination of chilli in it. It was very tasty and spicy. I must say that £12 for 4 pieces of prawns might be a little steep for a lunch meal. The lamb skewer I had apparently was something new they are about to add their list of sosaties. It definitely smelled good as it was served. On the skewers were about 8 chunks of lamb meat, 6 pieces of apricot and 5 pieces of onions. Juices from the apricot burst into your mouth as you chewed on the fruit. The lamb was also juicy, well seasoned and succulent. It didn't have any bad smell to it, so I thought it was a dish well done. Cous cous salad was refreshing. It came with generous serving of rocket leaves, raisins, pine nuts, cheese and some slices of freshly baked crusty bread. The dessert was fantastic although I must admit I did not see the South African influence in it. I had the dark chocolate mousse served with blackberry compote, yogurt and pumpkin seeds. I spoke to Mark, person in charge when I visited, about this and was told the dessert will be taken off the menu. So the restaurant is definitely taking some positive steps to serving better food and improving the menu. Overall happy with my food here

Only bad point: clothes now smell like a bonfire--but totally worth it!
