The conduct of management at this facility was horrendous with both female employees and clients. While my experience with house managers and therapists were all amazing, management and other staff carry negative and harmful attitudes towards women in what can only be described as a toxic "recovery" and workplace environment. It was common for male staff to talk about which female clients they would like to be involved with, rate their appearances, and several times upon intake of younger girls, staff was asked to not start relationships with clients. The fact that this even needed a discussion was concerning. During all of the conversations I witnessed, it was with management or other staff who were not technicians/house managers who I found to be very respectful and qualified. A client also approached me to disclose that she overheard management making vulgar comments about her mother after a family phone call which is extremely inappropriate. Male management normalised such talk and behaviour. On several instances I heard staff talking about myself and other female staff the same way. In a treatment environment this mentality has a trickle down affect and the male management who work here foster a toxic boys club environment that not only supports such behaviour with a lack of acknowledgment, but directly defends it. If a male client acted inappropriately it was defended and excused. I left after repeated advances and unwelcome behaviour from a superior which management was made aware of. I also discovered that I was not the first female employee who I know of, who had experienced this. This was a pattern of behaviour. The response was to dismiss and invalidate behaviour, allowing it to go unaddressed. Nothing was done and I had a mental breakdown. Ultimately, I was given two options, to continue working there and accept the environment as what it is, or to leave. I chose the second option. If you are looking for a facility that offers qualified care, there are plenty of other places.

That means living in a community with other men from all different walks of life, geographic areas, age differences, gender and/or sexual preferences. In reminds me somewhat of a military organization, in that people from all walks of life, economic positions, careers, etc. live together. This is in fact part of the treatment in learning how to become tolerant, share community responsibilities, self-govern (to a limited extent), and become a contributing member of a community. For some it is difficult, in that they have never had the experience or requirements to do so. It's about growth on an individual basis, in relational and interpersonal skills, in self-confidence, reliance on others, and examining the basis of your specific issue. Whether it's a substance or process addiction, there are many similar foundational actions, behaviors, traumas that contribute to our (clients) issues and helps build a bond between us (clients). One of the strengths of the organization is that nearly everyone of the staff, both support and therapists have been clients at Prescott House and are in recovery themselves. This gives them incredible "street creds", as they have been on the clients end and understand the issues the clients are dealing with. They also know how to get a client to look at themselves, take responsibility, learn how to change behaviors, thoughts, actions, and alternatives to the substance/process of choice. They are active in also working with the family of the clients, (those left to sit in the mess we left), and provide a space for family members to share the impact on them and integration back into the family, with boundaries, relapse prevention programs, relationship building plans. They also use whole person approach with using various outside practitioners, from spiritual advisors, fitness/health growth, life coaching/yoga, outside activities, meditation and mindfulness classes. These are things that helped me while a client and after when back home repairing relationships that have caused trauma of various levels, benefits of continuing individual treatment plans and Twelve Step programs. This also includes building support networks both with other clients here at P House and back in our own community. I have built some very close relationships here that will be in my life for a very long time. If you are really ready to do something about your addiction, the impact on your life and the life of countless others and do some hard work and return to have a meaningful life, and enjoy each day as a gift, then I recommend that you give serious consideration to seeking treatment at Prescott House. I called last week to check up on her, only to find out that she passed away 2 weeks earlier. No phone call, no letter, No notice. I am still trying to find out where my mother's corpse is located. Restraints are not allowed but they could have lowered his bed and put pads on either side of his bed. No, instead they called me to meet him at the ER. He just missed hitting his eye on the air conditioner and was a bloody mess. Very old, dark and dingy in appearance. I would never go back there again with someone I love. The next nursing home always kept his bed lowered to the floor with thick pads on either side to protect him should he fall.

To qualify for ACHHHS your BAC has to be over a certain amount, was advised to drink before checking in, this practice should be ILLEGAL. I literally learned NOTHING while there. Mid-July when I attended & AC had gone out in room I shared with several other women. There was little to no surprise and/or attention to this matter by staff. I could not even sleep it was so darn hot. They attempted to push drugs on me that I did not need. When I checked out I was given a bag with 3 prescriptions. No instructions or reasons given. I cannot believe places like this are legally allowed to operate, much less subsidized by taxpayer money. No wonder most of their positive reviews were written by staff. And duplicated. DO NOT GO HERE. Unless you need free/crappy food and/or enjoy being babysat by ex-addicts in their 20's who get free housing in return for said babysitting services. This place is 100% a TOTAL JOKE.
