We are from out of town and our baby was hit by a car. We came in late night and the staff was amazing. So attentive, sympathetic and quick. Though there was nothing to do to bring her back, they gave us a mold with her paw print and her collar back. They offered to cremate her and get the ashes sent to where we live. We came home to the sweetest sympathy card signed by all of the staff there and it brought tears to my eyes. Nothing but amazing things to say. Thank you. read more

BluePearl Pet Hospital - Veterinarians Near Me - Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Good thing my dog did not have a blockage as he surely would have been dead by the time they got to us. 4 plus hours with only 3 other people in the lobby. Vet was short for the entire 3 minutes I received of her time... felt I was getting scare tactics to do more testing and services. 650.00 dollars later and have no idea why he was sick...Will go to West Ashley next time... read more

This clinic has gone progressively downhill since it was owned and operated by local vets. Now it is owned by Blue Pearl - which is a part of the giant corporation Mars. So much for local, personalized care. Our visit (one of multiple visits) lasted over 8 hours to complete bloodwork and take two radiographs. After all that time the vet recommended hospitalization to give Iv fluids. What on earth were they doing for 8 hours that Iv fluids could not have been completed? Blue Pearl is now run by corporate metrics laying out revenue per visit and profit per vet and recommending excessive expensive tests and hospital stays. The staff is fine - it's corporate management. It's a well known fact in the local veterinary community. Blue Pearl's concern for profit over pets has distressed many vets who have decided it was best to resign, resulted in severely understaffed clinics, low staff support ratios, poor employee morale and poor care management. The pets and pet parents suffer. There is one remaining quality vet owned emergency clinic - charleston veterinary referral center - where the vets still run the practice. Charleston must demand a better standard of emergency care! read more

Everyone was very professional and kind ( Dr, technicians, and Amanda who answered phone and answered all my questions) . I was an anxious dog mom who left dog for first time overnight when having surgery. Was called before and after surgery ( helped relieve lot of anxiety). At pick up a technician took the time to go over all post surgical needs and answer all my questions I also appreciated the timeliness read more

Unfortunately my pet passed while in the car on the way to Blue Pearl, so my experience was limited. However, the staff was kind and caring with helping me through the horrible situation I found myself in. They immediately jumped into action to see if he could be revived when I arrived and displayed genuine sympathy for our loss while walking us through the next steps. I was very grateful for their assistance and ability to handle the delicate situation so well. read more

Our 13 year old tabby cat was bleeding from multiple places and he was feeling pretty bad and we had no idea what was happening with him. Our vet suggested that we take him to the VSC. Our sweet boy has been under the care of Dr. Hirsch for a little more than a year now since she resolved the initial problem but found diabetes and very low platelets in him. The techs who do the testing and the front desk staff are exceptional, friendly, caring and competent. Dr. Hirsch is all that and a great communicator too! She will often call the next day after we have seen her to check on our kitty. She will also suggest therapies going forward that are easy to follow. I know that anytime we have to leave our guy for testing, he will be loved and fussed over enough to reduce his anxiety and concern. We cannot recommend VSC more! You will be in great hands there. read more

Extremely nice staff. Everything was explained thoroughly. All options for our 14 year old dog were given. Able to make informed decision about treatment. Loving care given to Earl. read more

Staff was friendly and willing to help in any way. Dr. Hirsch and her technician were simply awesome. They spent time and answered all of our questions. Having a newly diagnosed dog with ITP has been a very scary experience and relocating from Florida to South Carolina in the midst of this crisis was harrowing. Blue Pearl hospitals in Brandon, Tampa and Sarasota all lent their expertise to save our pup and get her to remission. They made our transfer here uneventful. the compassion and understanding we have and they go out of their way to allow us to spend time with Poppy , especially while she was hospitalized. read more

The employees are great here! The staff is empathetic and kind which is exactly what you need in a crisis situation. As far as communication they could work on letting people know how long test will take, I was waiting for hours until I asked and they let me know how long the test take but wish I knew before I sat there and wondered away. This place is expensive compared to other emergency vets. The cost was double then PawMed for a similar visit. They took a radiology scan without asking if he ate all day. After the $600 test results came back they told me they couldn't tell if it was food or the mass and to not let him eat and come back for another scan which I denied. This could have all been avoided if they simply asked. They asked to keep him over night after not knowing really what was wrong with him which I denied and they were completely understanding. All in all and good experience, you just need to trust your gut and make the choices you want to make in regards of treatment. It was definitely a learning experience. PawMed seems like they are more honest about pricing and what your pup needs but this is a great second resort cause PawMed gets really long waits and sometimes you can't wait. read more

You should definitely come here if you like waiting for over 6 hours to have your dog ignored. I brought my dog in last night at 8:30 because she had bloody urine and waited until 3:00 am only to have her pushed to the end of the triage line the whole time. I finally gave up and asked to have her back. The lead tech who brought her out was full of excuses and attitude. They did nothing to help my dog. If they had just let me know they were understaffed earlier I would have understood and left. read more

I feel Blue Pearl VSC at Summerville is a state of the art veterinary facility, in both equipment and staff. The office is run like a well oiled machine and Dr Mims and other staff were great. It is more expensive than my primary care vet, but, on the other hand, specialists, new advanced equipment and a brand new spotless facility does not come cheap. Blue Pearl is a valuable local resource and I am glad they are here to help support our area Vets and our pets in times of their illnesses. Thanks for trying to help Smudge, even if she did not appreciate it. ;-) read more

The only reason I would provide a star is to acknowledge the veterinarian Dr. Hursh who so diligently treated my cat. This company debuted my checking account for an extra 316.38 beyond my 3000.00 dollar fee in error. It was suppose to be voided. Although I provided them with bank statements proving that this was the case, they won't respond to me. They claim they have no record of the debit although my bank statement shows otherwise. Most importantly, they refuse to get back to me now. In effect, they've stolen what to me is a significant amount of money. read more

Pets know better than to have emergencies during normal business hours. That's why we feel very fortunate to have Veterinary Specialty Clinic in our neighborhood. The clinic is clean, but not sterile, offering a comfortable and spacious waiting area, with a helpful and compassionate staff. (Of course, I mean the _atmosphere_ is not sterile. I'm sure the areas where actual medical stuff happens are all properly sterilized.) Arriving a bit after 8pm on a Friday night, we were immediately set at ease by the desk attendant. Within 15 minutes we were being seen by Dr. Klein. She carefully examined our fuzzy friend, then explained the situation and discussed our options in clear terms. Just as these types of situations never happen when you expect, they always cost more than you'd wish. But, considering the quality of service, the friendly attitudes, and the speed with which we were attended to, the price was well within reason. As if that wasn't enough, two days later, Dr. Klein personally called to make sure our cat was recuperating as expected. I hope you don't ever need their services, but if you do, I fully endorse Veterinary Specialty Clinic in Mount Pleasant. And if their North Charleston facility is under the same management, you should be in good hands there, too. read more

Worst experience, don't bother going here unless you can agree to critical care and minimum $500, or want to euthanize your pet. They refuse to do comfort care or medical treatment, there is no in between care here for pet owners on a budget, or pets at end stages of life. read more

This was our second visit to this place on a weekend when our vet was not available but our vet did have this place's number for an option. They are very responsive and so nice. We got there pretty quick and they immediately had someone look at our dog to see if he needed to go back right away. They decided it was not a huge emergency after some initial tests and we waited in the waiting room which is pretty comfortable. After a very short wait they had us come back and the doctor and lab tech worked with our dog. We are not sure yet exactly what the issue with the dog is. Pain or seizure or what but they placed us on a regimen of pain for a few days and suggested we go to our vet in a few days to have them check on progress. We were in and out in a short period of time and felt much more at ease. read more

On Monday our dog, Mocha, could not stand up let alone walk..........on Friday he walked out of the front door and has shown the improvement Dr. Freeman told us to hope for! To say this clinic is exceptional does not do them justice...they are beyond that and I would recommend anyone to trust them with the care of their pet. The whole team from the receptionists to the technicians were wonderful and while it is unfair to put one member of the team above the rest it would be remiss to not mention Dr. Freemen. Her skill as a surgeon and her compassion as a human being will forever be appreciated. read more

My overall experience with this pet hospital from the ER to The ICU has been outstanding. I do not have the words to express how compassionate and knowable all the staff members were, from the ER vet, to the techs, to the office staff. My dog had been vomiting/having diarrhea for a week and I was concerned there was a foreign object in her stomach, since she wasn't getting better as I was feeding her chicken and rice. I was there for 7 hours with no sense of when my dog would be seen. Got there at 6:30 PM and did not have someone approach me for 2 hours to ask for more information. The vet tech/nurse gave me an attitude about my choice of not wanting to do blood work, when it wasn't necessary. I was only there for an x-ray and blood work can be super expensive. At 10 PM, someone finally came to get her vitals. She was not seen until 12 AM for an x-ray. They did not come get me from the waiting room until 1:15 AM (an x-ray should take 10 minutes). I could hear my dog whining in the back as they put me in an exam room and told me a doctor would be in soon to talk. The vet did not come in for 20 more minutes as I could still hear my dog whining. The vet I saw never gave me a proper diagnosis or explained the x-rays to me (someone who has never seen an animal x-ray) and only told me what they were going to do for treatment. They also never offered to show me the x-ray or had any plans of sending them to me when I paid around $500 for them (about $150 for the x-ray and $366 for the 3 images from a radiologist). I had to ask the receptionist to send them to me via email. This place only cares about making money and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

I come to readers of this post with an horrific, urgent, and stark warning specifically regarding Dr. Ann Marcario, who practices at this animal hospital. On the morning of New Year's Eve 2021, I brought my beloved 7.5 year old Golden Retriever, Cooper, to VSC with what I believed to be an upper respiratory infection, as he had lethargy and small amount of nasal drip, but absolutely no other symptoms. After 2 hours of tests and diagnostics, Dr. Marcario informed me she believed Cooper might have an issue with his heart; she further stated that she would reach out to a respected cardiologist in the area, and would call me back immediately. When she called back, she stated the cardiologist had left for the day, but she had conducted an ultrasound in the meantime and found a large mass in Cooper's abdomen. She went on to state that the heart issue she believed she had detected was actually almost certainly a metastatic lesion, and that he probably had cancer throughout his body. Despite my repeated prodding, she unequivocally insisted that there was nothing that could be done for Cooper, regardless of financial ability. Based off this, she insisted that if Cooper was her dog, she would euthanize him that same day, and further insisted that it would be the responsible thing for us to do. After emotionally and mentally melting down for several hours due to this sudden news, I reflected on Cooper's utter lack of symptoms, and decided to seek a 2nd opinion. Fast forward to today, and Cooper has emerged from a successful surgery to remove the mass, and while he certainly has a long recovery, doctors found zero indication that the cancer spread to his heart or anywhere else. Additionally, three different DVM's at two different veterinary offices stated that they had no idea how Dr. Marcario arrived at her dire conclusions based off the diagnostics she performed. The moral of Cooper's story is this: absolutely do not trust your pet's life to Dr. Ann Marcario. My Cooper would be euthanized and in the ground for a treatable condition if I had relied on her word, judgement, and diligence, and that is something too horrific and inconceivable for me to wish upon my worst enemy. read more

Organized, efficient, kind, helpful and loving! I was nervous going in as I loved the hospital in ATL. However, they were so on their game. The wait time was minimal...all the information was in the system by the time we were called back. The tech came to take notes and then the doctor came right in to speak with us about next steps, and got the ball rolling. So impressive. We were in/out in about an hour! And our pup felt SO much better! read more

Emergency veterinary care is usually an uncomfortable, prolonged, traumatic experience. The staff at veterinary specialty care proved that wrong. After routine vaccines, my cat became seriously ill, so at 2 am on Friday evening we had no other option but to take him for care. There was no wait. Service was prompt. The facility was immaculate and comfortable. The staff was caring for both the family and my pet. The charges were far less than I would have expected for the impeccable care that was provided. I'm so glad they are close to home so that if I ever have an emergency again, I won't hesitate to go there. Well done. Thank you so much. read more

The obvious choice of going to an Animal Hospital at 7am is for a valid concern for your animals well being. We waited for over 45 minutes before being told the delay was due to a shift change. Total wait time of 70 minutes with only 3 people in waiting. The Vet then informed us that they aren't equipped for handling emergency dental work, therefore our time was wasted, as well as $220. Poor communication starting at the front door and a lack of concern for the clients time and money. Won't recommend, nor return. read more

I took in my kitten due to his eye being inflamed, swollen, with tons of eye boogers and him sneezing all day. They attended me quickly, gave me prescriptions (that worked almost immediately, the next morning his eyes were back to normal with minimal eye boogers) at a completely reasonable level price!! The staff is very kind and professional. Our 8lb small dog was attacked by a large 70+ lb dog . We called them in route about 4-5 minutes out from arrival and with our being from out of state and not familiar with the area, a staff member stayed with us on the phone until we arrived. Veterinary Specialty Care staff went beyond the call of duty keeping us up to date with progress reports on treatment and patient status in this stressful situation. We were called by phone and messaged us every step of the way. The staff was very patient and understanding in addressing our every question and concern through the entire process. read more

These ppl were terrible. They gave us no diagnosis, no explanation of what was wrong. They messed up the glucose drip causing our dog to have a seizure. They wouldn't let us see him so we didn't have any idea what was going on. We finally got him back with a $3000 bill for an overnight stay. (Yes, really $3,000.00.) It felt like extortion. I think he just needed something that he could eat. Once I got him home and made him his favorite meal, he was fine. Dr. Becky Johnston was the most callous and incompetent veterinarian I've encountered in 30 years of being a pet owner. I would try anywhere but here in an emergency, even if you have to drive 100 miles. They're that bad. read more

This place was horrible!!!! I wouldn't even give it a star! My dog's back legs started failing her all of a sudden so I knew she might of dislocated something and would need more than an x-ray. I called and explained my situation and they said they had a MRI and to come on. I drove over 2 hours to get there and then they didn't help us we sat in the waiting room that was empty for over 2 1/2 hours then it was 5:30pm and they said they wouldn't be able to read MRI if they did it. They didn't even get her records we had to leave and go to another place and then pay after hour fees since sat there wasted 3 hours. I have never been so mad or ever had such a horrible experiences at a vet especially an emergency one your already agreeing to pay to just be seen. I appreciate the time Michelle and Donna of Veterinary Specialty Care took to reach out and discuss this matter further with me.

I am not thrilled at all with this place. Our dog got sick so we took him there at like 6 at night. our dog was an 11 year old lab with diabetes and he could not walk or eat or pee or anything. they finally got results and said he had arthritis and that he walked around and peed outside twice and was fine otherwise. they sent us home with pain meds and antibiotics. the next day our dog got worse. we took him to the vet who could not believe they told us our dog walked and was okay, in fact, our dogs regular vet told us our dog was dying. the next day we had to put our precious baby to sleep all because the emergency vet lied. they never gave us results of bloodwork or anything. if you want your pet your pet to die go to this place. if not, go to a good vet. MY DOG DIED BECAUSE THESE ASSHOLES LIED ABOUT HIS CONDITION!!!!!! read more

Hope this gets better. The receptionist was less than thrilled to come open the door while i was bringing my cat in for an emergency. If she could have walked any slower or acted more annoyed, she would have been lying on the floor. After i asked if i was in the right place ( should i go somewhere else? I thought this was an emergency clinic??) given the below casual attitude. After 10 or so minutes I had gone back out into lobby twice to see what was going on.. she then tells me" I couldnt tell you that 2 animals are dying in the back".. first of all, yes you could have said something when I first came in so I was aware there may be some waiting. Secondly, could have just said we have 2 very critical emergencies going on...They need to either train this girl intensely in customer service asap or she probably needs to find a different career path. I was about to leave and drive to another hospital. Everyone else was lovely and caring. Doc and another receptionist came in and explained everything, appropriately and timely. It goes to show who you have answering your calls and greeting your guests/patients has to be how you want your business to be portrayed. I started this review with one star and it was the behavior and actions of the other people that increased those. read more
