    My dog Mocha

I'll keep this quick, staff was amazing and great help, everything except for one set of results were super quick ( they were performing surgery on a dog already), they addressed the problem super fast and helped me over the phone, it is expensive but they have plans to help out like affirm. Amazing emergency vet!

This poor guy passed away almost 24 hours after his visit.

The staff was kind, but I was disappointed that I wasn't informed beforehand that they had limited experience with guinea pigs. We brought our little guy in because he was whimpering while breathing and had diarrhea. They performed an ultrasound, found fluid around his organs but couldn't determine the cause, and conducted a fecal test that ruled out parasites. They prescribed antibiotics and nutrient food but told me that guinea pigs weren't their specialty and advised me to follow up with an exotic vet as soon as possible. Sadly, our guinea pig passed away 24 hours later. When we took him to the exotic vet the next day, they were unable to obtain records from this emergency clinic, even after requesting them. The visit cost us $410, and I wish we had known earlier to go straight to a specialist.

Cannot recommend VEG enough!! So, so grateful to have them so close by. They saw my dog very quickly when I brought her in. It's an open floor plan, so I got to sit with my dog the entire time. We ended up having to go two nights in a row and both times were great (although I hope to never have to use them again lol!!) The staff loved my dog and made us feel very comfortable.

Illegal Treatment and Animal Cruelty…read more On Tuesday, I went to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital because I was worried that my dog's spaying wound might have opened. After filling out one page of information and a short "in case of emergency" declaration, they took my dog into the back, saying they were only going to check her vitals and that she would be out in a second. I felt uncomfortable not being with my dog, but I trusted the doctors. After about five minutes, an employee came up and asked us to sit in a room, saying that a doctor would talk to us after the exam. The exam? I was told they were only checking her vitals. I walked back to the front desk and asked again if they were only checking her vitals and made sure they would not perform any unnecessary treatment. The front desk employee told me it was only vitals and nothing else. A moment later, I heard a dog screaming at the top of its lungs. I was the only person there with a dog, it was my dog. I immediately told them that I wanted to see my dog, but I was repeatedly told that I was not allowed to. I asked why checking vitals would take more than 15 minutes and told them that I did not want anyone touching her scar or putting her through unnecessary pain. The front desk employee said she would check in the back to make sure my dog was okay and inform the doctor of what I had said. She came back and told me that it was another dog screaming and that they were only checking my dog's vitals. After another five minutes, I became impatient and asked again what was taking so long just to check vitals. The employee walked to the back again and then returned, saying they only had one more vital sign to check and that my dog would come out soon. By this point, it had been over 20 minutes. I told them that checking vitals should not take this long and that I did not want them to treat my dog without my permission. Another front desk employee then said that they were only checking the vitals, like looking at the ears and measuring the temperature, and asked me to go back into the room so the doctor could do the exam with me. I went back into the room, and a few minutes later the doctor walked in with my dog. My dog was covered in a bandage and had 10 staples in her. I was completely shocked. My heart dropped, and I could barely speak. The doctor told us that the incision had been slightly open, so she stapled my dog. She then handed us a $400 bill and sent us to the front desk. At the front desk, I told them that this was not okay and that I had been lied to the entire time. After some discussion, the front desk employee brought the doctor in charge to speak with me. The doctor told me that she had made all the decisions herself, which made the situation even worse, since it meant multiple employees had given me false information. I had been lied to the entire time and repeatedly given incorrect information. The worst part was that they did all of this without my consent, and it was not even an emergency. When I brought this up, the doctor said that it was not an emergency but that the dog was already on her table, so it was convenient. I was shocked by that statement. I told them they should not have even looked at the scar without me present and that I wanted to be there for my dog. The doctor then said that she was taking initiative because my dog was already lying there and did not even need numbing. So they are telling me that without my permission, while the staff was simultaneously telling me something completely different, they put staples into my dog without numbing her, without a consultation, and without asking me. When I looked at the bill, I also noticed unreasonable charges, such as $71 for a bandage. I told them how unprofessional this was and that it felt less like helping my dog and more like making a quick buck. The doctor then said in a snarky tone that she could take the bandage off if I wanted to. I left feeling sick to my stomach. My dog had been put through unnecessary pain, I could no longer trust the veterinarians, and I had the overwhelming feeling of being lied to by everyone involved. On top of that, I was handed a $400 bill that I never consented to, never received an estimate for, and never signed. I am extremely angry and heartbroken that I trusted them and unknowingly put my dog through all of this.

I have a few things to say and ALL GREAT!…read more I want to start with the fact that my sweet Tank was diagnosed with epilepsy wayyyy earlier than most. Tank had started experiencing seizures at 1yr. He had been in and out of emergency visits with horrible seizures (up to 10min duration) every month sometimes 2x a month while we lived in GA. We recently moved to SC and heard about CVRCs Neurology department. After one visit, they were able to prescribe him a new medication. He has now been seizure free for going on 4 months!!! The longest he's gone since turning a year old, now 3 years old. Additionally, since July 4th, Tank has had horrible gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, runny stool, reluctant to eat and drink fluids), making us very nervous about his already sensitive situation. Anytime Tank has an emergency, CVRC is the first place I call. I took him in this morning, they were able to get him in, take extra care of the situation knowing his history, and I'm happy to say, I'm going to pick up my sweet boy here shortly. Dr. Panek is one of the most compassionate and empathetic DRs that we have had the pleasure of meeting. She not only understood what was happening but empathized with us and did what she could to make us and Tank more comfortable. I am so beyond thankful for this facility and the individuals working there. From the front desk, to the techs, to the doctors. They are all animal lovers, and the moment you walk in the door, you can feel it. Tatum at the front desk is another individual I would give a gold star to if I could. Always cool, calm, and collected both over the phone and in person. Made us feel like we could take a breath as soon as we got him in. I CANNOT recommend CVRC enough, ESPECIALLY for the sweet babies with special cases. **There are many, many more faculty members I would love to spotlight but unfortunately do not have names as of now. ALL amazing individuals***

We had seen his regular vet earlier in the day because he was wobbly walking. Had blood testing done and was advised he was very anemic and would probably need a blood transfusion, which they could not do. We decided to try antibiotics and steroids to see if that could help him out with follow up on Monday. Advised if he got worse then take him to ER. We arrived in evening at ER and were told they were short staffed and it could take a bit. We said that is fine and told them he would need a blood transfusion based on earlier visit with his vet. They took him back and put him on IV fluids. Vet tech Katie took us back and told us the vet would be with us shortly. We told her the back story and all the info and results from regular vet then Dr. Wasiak came in and we passed all that same information on to her. After that vet tech Josh came in saying they were testing my cat's blood for type and gave us an estimate sheet for blood transfusion which I approved and said go ahead. Josh then tells us that they tested my cat and he is type B and they do not have type B on hand and are trying to locate some. Josh then tells us that CRVC West Ashley has some type B, the doc has called and relayed all the info to them and they are expecting us. We were quickly checked out and paid bill. We drove straight to West Ashley where they took my cat back and we were escorted to room to talk with a vet. We told them we were there for a blood transfusion because they have type B blood on hand according to vet tech Josh at Blue Pearl. The doctor told us they did not have type B on hand and don't know why we were told they did plus she didn't see on the paperwork from Blue Pearl Summerville that our cat was even blood typed. The doctor said our cat's stomach was all bruised too and asked if we were aware of that. I told her no. There was confusion all around but before we could even try to figure it out or get our cat blood typed for a transfusion he went downhill and had to be euthanized. We weren't even there 10 minutes. No one could explain why were sent there, what happened, etc. On Saturday I called Blue Pearl and talked with Angie to ask questions. I explained the situation and she told me that we were NOT charged with blood typing and confirmed with Dr. Wasiak that our cat was NOT blood typed and they could not explain why vet tech Josh told us he was and that West Ashley had the type B needed. Josh was not working so they would have to question him and get back to us. Angie told us they only had 1 pack of type A blood on hand the evening before and that it was for an animal that was having surgery so they couldn't have done a blood transfusion anyways. She was confused and said she would pass this all on up the chain and someone would call me back about it. 9 days later I finally received a call about this incident. I was told an internal review would be done, that vet tech Josh was hired through a third party since they were understaffed and they would talk with them. Made it seem like they couldn't vouch for employees from this third party and they may not use Josh again at their ER after an internal review. I was told again that I was not charged for blood typing for my cat. They explained about where and how they get blood from donors and why some things might have been done but could not explain why Josh lied to us, why we weren't immediately referred to West Ashley at the start if they couldn't perform blood transfusions, etc. I was told my complaint was to be referred up the chain and would be contacted again by the end of the week. It's now Tuesday and no contact as of yet as to exactly explain all of this to us. I feel we were mislead just to get money out of us then lied to so they could pass us on. Would my cat have survived if I went straight to West Ashley first I'll never know but I do believe my cat would have received better attention and care there from the beginning and not have suffered so much. I wish I had read the reviews before I went to Blue Peart so that it might have saved me some frustration and heartache. I would never want my pet to suffer and now I feel he may have more than he needed to.
