Blue Pearl is an emergency veterinary Hospital and yes is pretty expensive , but oh my gosh they give great care! Doctor Stacy Daley is a gem and is experienced and is great at educating pet owners . She took her time and loved on my cat today. I work as a volunteer for a cat rescue and she was wonderful at sharing current information about cats and kittens. I also brought a kitten here for a rescue about a year ago and they had to put her down , but did it so very lovingly and because it was a rescue kitten they did not charge me for her euthanization . They were so very kind to me as I was completely heartbroken to lose this sweet baby . The only reason I don't give five stars is literally the expense . A lot of us can't afford to come here . read more

I am reposting my review as it somehow posted separately from my Yelp account, and I would like my network to know of this clinic. THANK YOU, Dr. Alderman and her staff. My fur baby, Marina (12years old), had bad teeth: loose and partially chipped ones. We first went to the primary doc who assessed that Marina would need a cardiology exam to determine the dental procedure. Due to her stage 2 heart murmur, we were asked to see a vetenarian dentist. Not only did the doc we found were not AVDC certified dentists, but her estimate was huge. Consulting with a friend who is a retired vetenarian, she insisted that I must see a certified animal dentist as there is a great difference between specialist dentist vs. AVDC certified dentist. Since I am familiar with UT, I checked the Salt Lake area and found Dr. Alterman at Bluepearl in Midvale. I made the appointment:first visit and surgery date since the treatment was a must. The reservation process was easy as we made it a month ahead. What I also loved abt the clinic, they were so reasonable and did not insist on doing repetitive exams like the other clinic did. Dr. Alterman reviewed all the reports from my primary vet as well as cardiologyvreport. We all agreed that the extraction was a must but agreed that there would be unknown findings and additional treatment may be needed. Today, I dropped off Marina close to 9 am. Later in the morning, I got a call from the doc, and the x ray result showed worse condition of Marina's teeth than we expected. Marina was diagnosed with periodontal disease, tooth restoration, nonvital tooth, and uncomplicated crown-root fracture. She ended up with 18 teeth removal. Each step of the procedure, Dr. Alterman explained it to me, and I am so grateful. The discharge process was very well explained. Her assistant went over all in detail. I am so grateful and thankful to the doc and her staff. Thank you. The clinic itself is very clean, spacious, and quiet. The front desk staff were were friendly and professional. I can't say enough! So I'm going to share my experience here and hopefully a lot of people will see it. I had a horrible experience with Elizabeth J. Greeson at Blue Pearl and DO NOT recommend her AT ALL for any type of animal. Her bedside manner was awful towards me. I was in a very high panic state because my cat was very hurt (got hit by a car) and she made it so much worse. They wouldn't accept my "word" for care of MY cat because my mom had to okay it. They kept talking over me, wouldn't let me explain a single thing. I'm 29, it's our family cat. This is clearly an emergency here. I was expecting someone to immediately respond to what was going on and they wouldn't even take care of my cat until my mom okayed it AND I had to sign a piece of paper okaying the care. Idk if this is something new? because I've never had to sign a paper like that before at a vet clinic and in an emergency situation where every minute counts, I don't get it, I clearly came here to get emergency vet help. Where's the clinics that immediately respond as soon as you walk through the doors? Anyways, I'm outside calling my mom and Elizabeth comes outside yelling at me in the parking lot to make a decision because they literally refused to work on our cat until they got that okay, even though they told me I personally couldn't make the decision and I literally couldn't get ahold of my mom. I've been here once before, years ago and the other vet was absolutely amazing and that's why we went there this night and I fully regret my decision. I even told her to stop speaking to me the way she was and that I didn't like it and that she needed to leave because she was making my panic so much worse. I don't recommend her in any emergency situation because she did not handle it appropriately AT ALL. They also gave our cat pain meds after I specifically told them he already had something in his system, apparently the staff doesn't communicate very well because the vet still gave him something, THEN clarified after the fact that he already had something in his system, so then had to do a reverse on the medication they gave him and said it put him into horrible pain. She had the audacity to come in the room and explain in detail how much agony he was in. WHY THE HECK DID YOU GIVE HIM ANYTHING AFTER YOU WERE TOLD HE HAD SOMETHING IN HIS SYSTEM?! They knew this information as they were taking him into the back. Them doing the reverse in medication killed my cat. THIS WOMAN WAS AWFUL and I cannot recommended this place while she's working there. AVOID BLUE PEARL!!! Find a different 24/7 vet. I would give -10 stars if I could. read more

I woke up the other morning with a really sick cat. The closest emergency vet office is the Blue Pearl in Midvale. From the moment I walked in their door my cat and I were treated with kindness and empathy. Even though I had to go home with an empty pet carrier. We came here yesterday due to a suspected blockage in our dog. They got us in fairly quickly and had our pup seen not long after. The front desk workers and the vet techs were all very nice. Prior to doing the blood work and X-rays they quoted us between $850 and $1000. When all was said and done, the total cost was only $650, which was a pleasant surprise. They were also able to immediately schedule a surgery for her at Medvet in SLC. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that it seems they are no longer 24/7. Had we needed help after 6pm, I'm not sure what we would have done. read more

**This is a warning for others, not a request for a fake apology.** "I'm sorry." It means nothing when you know you'll do it to others too. Look at all the negative reviews. There were TWO employees at the front desk. Neither would help us. NO communication. You were fully staffed. There were TWO people at the front desk. One was standing off, leaning against the wall, playing with her phone. There were only two families when we went in. There was only one other family in your clinic when we left. You had time and employees available to communicate with us. You just chose not to. And now you say an empty, "I'm sorry". I asked her TWICE how our dog was, what was happening. She acted irritated and told us she would let us know when they had time, but they had a patient 'coding". Since our dog was dying too, he didn't matter. She refused to wheel our dog in while he was dying, even though we were in a private room. She refused to let us go back and be with him. "There are opiates back there!" Well, our dog was there too. We weren't with him. That is time that can never be returned. We are all heartbroken. This isn't a one-off either. You acted the same way in 2020. There was complete refusal to give us an evaluation of his condition. Just two options: "pay us to heroically save him" or "euthanize him". We didn't know if he could be saved with any quality of life or not. But she didn't want to hear it. "We're busy with others". That was the response. "Which one do you want???" That was the response. It wasn't about the money either. I'd pay $5000 to save him, if it meant he would be happy and functional. I didn't want to take a suffering dog home. We wanted an answer to that question and you refused to answer. But you were sure to let us know, it would cost us big time to find out. And you charged us over $500 to treat us like that. People are interesting. The phrase, "Oh, I'm sorry" means nothing when you repeat the same behavior. If you have a soul and really care about your clients, those who can't speak for themselves, you'll wise up and correct your whole staff. You'll understand that people are with dying family. This is a time that can't be replaced. The stone-hearted attitude we were shown is horrifying and unacceptable. We would've gone to Cottonwood if we had the time to get there, and suggest others do the same. read more

I took my puppy in to see their dermatologist for an allergy test. While there, I asked her about something I'd noticed in my puppy's eye. The Dr. looked at it and said we needed to see an optomologist immediately. They called all over the valley for me, pulled some strings, and got us into see an optomologist straight away. Without the incredibly kind dermatologist (I wish I had stopped to get her name), my puppy would have lost her eye. I can't thank them enough for the incredible kindness, urgency, and competent veterinary medicine we received. read more

My bully has been going to a regular vet for "allergies" and for the last year it has been so difficult to deal with all his outbreaks and his suffering. They recommend me to see a dermatologist for my dog since they couldn't diagnose anymore to their abilities. BluePearl was not an option but in my desperate search to find the best care for my baby was vital! I googled and searched and came across this place. Made an appointment super fast by the way (2 day wait) had him seen and diagnosed with a different issue and not being allergies at all! They gave him the best treatment option that has worked magic, my dog can now go outside with out the fear or flareups (since they had diagnosed 1st for allergies to grass) and live a normal life, he walks now without getting ingrown hairs in his paws Fast forward to a month now and he's the best he's ever been!! I was lucky enough to learn about Dr. Alterman through my usual vet. My dog developed a large oral mass and I was referred to her. She explained the surgery clearly and she put me at ease when I dropped my dog off. I was obviously distraught over sending my dog in for surgery, but she was so kind. I knew my dog was going to be fine. The office communication was excellent. They called me when my dog went under anesthesia and Dr. Alterman called me when she was finished. The nurse provided excellent discharge instructions and answered all of my questions. The front desk staff were always busy but friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this veterinarian, especially if your pet has a complicated dental issue. Thanks for being so great to my four legged kiddo. read more

There are very few emergency hospitals in the Salt Lake metro area. When the emergency vet closest to our house would not take any patients, this was the next closest ER vet to go to. This visit will be the last visit we ever make at this ER. There are other ER's in the valley who treat their patients with more respect and provide information and explanations that are much more helpful than the service provided by Blue Pearl. When we arrived, the women at the counter asked how they could help us and a vet tech appeared and took my dog away from me into the back somewhere. They wanted me to share all of the information about what was happening with my dog in front of everyone in the waiting room, while I was in tears. It was so uncomfortable, and honestly, was not anyone else's business. Then, they took me into a room and presented me with a paper which asked if I would allow them to resuscitate my dog, the costs of such, and that most dogs who they try to resuscitate do not survive. (they gave me the percentage, and I cannot remember-but think it was around 10%) While I understand the meaning behind such an authorization, it was very upsetting to not only have my dog taken somewhere without me to be examined, but also to be asked such questions with the price attached. Anywhere else I have taken my dog to an ER, they have examined my dogs in a room with me there initially. I was scared my dog was going to pass away in the back somewhere without me there! Instead of having vets, vet techs, and front office staff that seem to care about animals, it did not seem that they were skilled in working with pet owners who are distraught. The compassion and empathy that you would hope would be there, along with thorough explanations of procedures and why they take your pet away from you to diagnose what is happening would be greatly appreciated. Instead, you are dealing with unprofessional vets (the vet was upset with me asking questions and pulled my dog's leash so hard bringing him back into the room to be with me) and unprofessional and compassionless staff who claim to really care about the animals. My dog was having seizures, which he had never had before. It was a Friday night, and we were there for five hours. I was there with my other dog, but had not had dinner, nor was my other dog even offered anything to drink. My dog that was having seizures was brought back to me in a room after the vet said that he was stable. Meanwhile, the seizures continued. I videoed them, and so did one of the vet techs to present to the vet. They took him back again and then brought him back to me and gave me some options. I decided to have them draw his blood, as that could possibly be helpful as to learning why he was suddenly having seizures. When they took my dog back for his bloodwork, (because apparently they refuse to do anything in front of the pet owner,) my dog was brought back, still having seizures, and his entire chest and belly were sopping wet with rubbing alcohol. My dog was trying to lick the alcohol off of his body, so knowing this could cause even more illness to my dog, I quickly grabbed some papertowels to dry him off! I couldn't believe an ER vet would take blood from a dog, and basically drench their fur in rubbing alcohol, and not clean up after taking the bloodwork. I was told the seizures were tremors, and given gabapentin and sent home close to 1 AM. We were told to go to a specialist-a neurologist, who could help with further tests that might help us find out what was causing the seizures. When we walked outside, we were parked right in front of the building, and there were people standing smoking cigarettes right outside of my car. Needless to say, it was disgusting to walk through their cloud of poison with my sick dog, and our car wreaked when I got my two dogs inside to head home after a long night at the ER. I thought there was a law about smoking close to entrances of buildings. While the staff can't always monitor that area, they should have a sign or a security guard patrolling the lot so others don't have to walk through a cloud of disgusting smoke to get to their car with their sick pet. The entire experience felt like I was at a back alley clinic that did not have my dog's best interest and health as a priority. Going to the vet ER is never a pleasant experience, but the staff and procedures here made the nightmare of the ER vet extremely worse based on their unprofessional demeanor and practices. read more

Absolutely awful human beings. I was just told that for $5k my dog will receive gold level service. If I can't afford that right now up front they will have to give me a cheaper option. I.e. not as good of service even though we had already confirmed he had a life threatening condition. The tech that we spoke with then had the nerve to ask, How much can you afford? Seriously the most slimy question you could ever ask a person. (How much can we squeeze out of you) my wife and I were sent home with some medications and a word document and basically told good luck. So hopefully since I guess we're too poor to have our animal taken care of by supposed doctors that care. We will do our best to get him healthy again. My husband and I went to blue pearl for our 3 month old labradoodle puppy. She had eaten a tampon and had been throwing up. We called before we went and they said to definitely come. So we got her checked it fairly quickly but when they called us after her first examination they said they needed to do x-rays. Sounds fine right? WRONG. They told me for 1 x-ray it was going to cost me $455. But what can you do? That's their price and my puppy is sick. So I say go ahead. A couple minutes later I get a call saying they did the x-ray but nothing appeared in her stomach. So they sent me home to come back in the morning to get another round of x-rays. I obviously was online looking for different vet hospitals I could take her to in the morning that wouldn't charge me an arm and a leg. I found one and they said their x-rays were $200. More than half what blue pearl is charging. Anyways, I wake up this morning and see my puppy has thrown up the tampon through the night in her kennel. I got a copy of the x-rays and I can see the tampon. I don't know how they missed it. I have attached the x-ray so you can see for your self if you could point it out. Anyways all in all, do not come here if you can help it. They totally missed the tampon in her x-rays and charge WAY to high. read more

I've had to take pets there a few times, and always had good experiences with the staff or medical care. Sometimes the wait can be really long, and some prices are higher than a normal vet, but both of those should be expected at any emergency facility with specialized equipment - I really appreciate that they have the ability to provide urgent & specialized care when it's needed. Most recently I took my cat Alvin in for an emergency; staff handled the situation quickly and thoroughly, and did a great job stabilizing him and investigating the cause. They gave me a thorough $3k+ estimate for hospitalizing him for 48 hours which I did have to deposit up front. Unfortunately he had a serious & terminal diagnosis and needed to be euthanized - they called me immediately when they got the results and refunded the hospitalization charges since it was better for him to be euthanized than continue being hospitalized. The staff also handled the euthanasia very thoughtfully and explained everything - they made the process as easy as they could. Ultimately I paid about $1k including private cremation and I feel that's a very fair price for everything they did. Though many appointments are still curbside you can come in with your pet in some circumstances, like euthanasia. read more

This was the only vet open at the time of our emergency. Our small town vet was out of town so we drove 2 hours to get the help we needed. HUGE MISTAKE!!!! -- the worst care I've ever received. I do not recommend this place AT ALL. The doctor, Dr. Greenson, was extremely money hungry and did not comfort or guide us in this scary time. Instead, she shamed us and made rude remarks about us not having enough money for some of the treatments they were recommending (which by the way, had nothing to do with our major concern) They kept coming to us with estimates and would charge us hundreds of dollars for simply monitoring our dog while giving her treatment. The only good thing about this experience was one nice nurse who was kind enough to keep us in the loop. They also kept our dog for much longer than necessary. After we paid, they didn't not let us have her until 45 min. later. It was unbelievable how horrible we were treated, the amount of treatment they DID NOT give her and the amount of money we were charged. We took our dog to our vet when he returned and he gave us an amazing new course of treatment that is actually working for her and she is finally showing improvement. I was heart broken for my dog andI was in shock a vet could be so unprofessional and so unhelpful. Our cat was attacked by dogs and we rushed to get help. We'd never been there before but it was the closest emergency vet. The receptionist and staff were so kind and caring. We learned that Our cat died on the way there and the staff cried with us as they told us he was gone. They genuinely showed us compassion and empathy. I woke up early on a Saturday morning to my fur baby gasping for air. It was 6 in the morning and I knew I couldn't get in to see my vet that early. I scooped up Cletus in his favorite blanket and headed to Blue Pearl. Due to Covid-19 I wanted to let the staff I was close. I called once I got off the exit and told the nurse who answered that my cat was gasping for air and we were just about to their office. Once I pulled in, staff was waiting for Cletus. He was gently picked up and rushed inside. Once Cletus was inside, they sent out an amazing staff member to ask questions about what happened and what they can do. After 10 minutes of feline cpr, epinephrine shot, and putting Cletus on a ventilator the Vet came out to speak with me. He was so nice and explained to me the options I had available to me for. While it was an awful day, I know Blue Pearl did all thru could for our fur baby. I will continue to have my fur babies checked out by this team. read more

They shamed her for not being able to afford $7000 upfront with no payment plan. Then the vet shamed her and said "what does she this he's just going to magically get better on his own?!" Post covid19: Great staff, but their processes are not efficient. Please come up with a system to let your patients know what's going on and how long it's going to take since we are not allowed to be inside with their animals. We should be able to call in from the designated stall, explain symptoms, be told when a tech would retrieve animal, be updated if there are any critical patients that have come in and will go in before you and any updates from there on out. Plain and simple. Please treat your patients as you would like to be treated. It's not hard to update your patients that are waiting for hours in their cars for hours. read more

Took him to two vets after this and paid less than $100 each time and they both said "we don't know what they are talking about, we've done a full exam and do not see this at all" I was told from blue pearl to get a $5-6k surgery when in reality he just needed a diet change.... read more

My 5.5yr old cat passed away hours after BluePearl diagnosed her with an upset stomach. I took my cat Bellatrix in for an emergency visit on Sunday April 26th at exactly 6:00pm. Since the covid pandemic they have you wait in your car until a Vet Technician can bring in your animal. The technician came out at 6:55 and brought Bellatrix inside. I had explained that Bellatrix was very lethargic, hacking up, not eating, breathing faster than normal, hiding under the bed in a corner, and her back end and hips had suddenly sunken/caved in almost dragging her legs, I also stated that she could barely walk and when she tried to walk upstairs she slowly took one step at a time and nearly fell.  I stayed and waited outside for her exam to finish. I received a call from the Vet at 8:07pm after her exam. The doctor said she couldn't find anything abnormal in her exam and wanted to do a urinalysis to rule out a urinary tract infection and blood work. At 9:06pm the Vet called me back and said her urine was clean and the blood work came back normal except one slightly elevated area which she had stated "wasn't really a concern." The vet explained that she thought Bellatrix had an upset stomach or minor injury and they wanted to give her Famotidine (for reflux and stomach ulcers) and also Buprenorphine (pain medication). I was told to give the medication about 24hrs so she could start "feeling better" and if she gets worse I could bring her back for more tests. I paid my bill of $490.89. The vet technician brought Bellatrix to the door where she explained she would be in a somewhat sedated state from pain medication and to give time for her stomach medication to kick in. I took Bellatrix's cat carrier into my car at 9:35pm. When I got home and took Bellatrix out she was wet and smelled like urine, I cleaned her up and laid her on some blankets in my bathroom next to her food, water, and cat box. The next morning when I had checked on Bellatrix I noticed she did not move from her spot. Bellatrix's eyes were fixed and dilated, she was cold to the touch and when I did touch her she made a long groan sound without moving or opening her mouth. She had a fluid sound coming from her breathing. I called bluepearl and had informed them of what was happening and they said I could bring her back in for a diagnostic testing which the receptionist stated was blood work, urine, and an Xray, I had said she already had her urine and blood work done but they wanted to do it all again and it would be $800.00 for the testing alone before any other treatment. I then told my 7 year old son to say goodbye to our cat Bellatrix, I was certain at that point that she wasn't going to make it. I got her into the car and started driving to a different emergency pet hospital that was 10-15minutes away. I was about 2 minutes away from pulling in and I heard her gasping, choking and convulsing next to me in the passenger seat. I checked her heartbeat and she was gone. I took her body to my vet where she was cremated. My 5.5yr old cat died in less than 24hrs after being at Bluepearl. I'm not sure how the fluid in her chest was missed when she had her exam. After consulting with another Vet, it's believed that she passed from heart failure with every symptom she had. I have regretted and beat myself up for going to bluepearl ever since.  I gave Bluepearl almost 500.00 to send my cat home to die a very graphic awful death. read more

We have been very impressed with Blue Pearl. We had a consultation about dental surgery for our dog and found all staff members to be professional and helpful. The Veterinarian and the Tech both spent a lot of time with us. They answered our questions and provided a lot of education. We received a written estimate and found their prices to be very reasonable. We did a lot of research on the standard rates for the procedure that our dog needed, and Blue Pearl's written estimate was on the low end. It also included more precautions to keep our pet safe during surgery. We feel like we have made a good choice to have our pet cared for by the dental specialist at Blue Pearl. read more

My neighbor and I had to rush one of our community cats here last week. The poor baby showed up with a big gash on his leg. The front staff were great. Charlie Liberace was triaged right away. Chanan, the tech was amazing, sweet, knowledgeable, attentive. They took Him back immediately because he had a fever and they gave him pain meds which we were thankful for. The wait was long, they estimated 2-3 hours. But then they got 4 dogs during that time who had been hit by cars so it took much longer. But that's to be expected. Dr. Rodriguez was super busy but explained what would happen. We went home to wait for him to be sutured and examined under sedation, overall the process was about 8 hours. That's a long time, but what makes it ok is the staff were ALL helpful, kind, caring and informative. We never felt unwelcome. It's hard to put the experience in writing, but I'd definitely go back-and hope I never need to. read more
