Marina 2 days after the surgery
    Sona K.

I am reposting my review as it somehow posted separately from my Yelp account, and I would like my network to know of this clinic. THANK YOU, Dr. Alderman and her staff. My fur baby, Marina (12years old), had bad teeth: loose and partially chipped ones. We first went to the primary doc who assessed that Marina would need a cardiology exam to determine the dental procedure. Due to her stage 2 heart murmur, we were asked to see a vetenarian dentist. Not only did the doc we found were not AVDC certified dentists, but her estimate was huge. Consulting with a friend who is a retired vetenarian, she insisted that I must see a certified animal dentist as there is a great difference between specialist dentist vs. AVDC certified dentist. Since I am familiar with UT, I checked the Salt Lake area and found Dr. Alterman at Bluepearl in Midvale. I made the appointment:first visit and surgery date since the treatment was a must. The reservation process was easy as we made it a month ahead. What I also loved abt the clinic, they were so reasonable and did not insist on doing repetitive exams like the other clinic did. Dr. Alterman reviewed all the reports from my primary vet as well as cardiologyvreport. We all agreed that the extraction was a must but agreed that there would be unknown findings and additional treatment may be needed. Today, I dropped off Marina close to 9 am. Later in the morning, I got a call from the doc, and the x ray result showed worse condition of Marina's teeth than we expected. Marina was diagnosed with periodontal disease, tooth restoration, nonvital tooth, and uncomplicated crown-root fracture. She ended up with 18 teeth removal. Each step of the procedure, Dr. Alterman explained it to me, and I am so grateful. The discharge process was very well explained. Her assistant went over all in detail. I am so grateful and thankful to the doc and her staff. Thank you. The clinic itself is very clean, spacious, and quiet. The front desk staff were were friendly and professional. I can't say enough! I highly recommend BluePearl clinic for anyone that needs excellent service and competent docs. Sending my big THANks again.

My senior kitty had stopped eating, was vomiting and overall not himself. I thought he had a blockage, but turns out his kidney disease progressed to kidney/renal failure within a matter of days. The vet went through all the options and in the end we agreed letting him go peacefully was the best thing to do. It's never an easy decision to make and one I wasn't expecting to make then. The staff was wonderful. Friendly, caring and compassionate.

I woke up the other morning with a really sick cat. The closest emergency vet office is the Blue Pearl in Midvale. From the moment I walked in their door my cat and I were treated with kindness and empathy. Even though I had to go home with an empty pet carrier. I really appreciated their sensitivity to my situation. I will never forget how the staff helped me get through a really difficult decision.

Sormy got nipped on his year and they were able to remove the fluid buildup!! Quick helpful service!

The vet is really good, she was able to save my dogs cracked tooth because she is specially trained to ado sealant and basically repair the tooth where most vets just pull it if it's broken. I was so happy they could save her large canine that she mostly chews with. The price was fair as well. Would highly recommend. Her teeth are perfectly white now. They also offer a sedation free dental cleaning service if the dog doesn't have major teeth problems like the broken tooth my dog has. If the dog has a good temperament they can clean the teeth with no sedation which would be much more affordable and safer for the dog. I am planning to return for the sedation free cleaning in the future.

I now feel compelled to re-share this as they are nominated for multiple undeserving 'Best of Utah' awards...) "Front desk staff are rude and without empathy. They told us they would call back with test results in X days and that a prescription would be ready for pickup in X days. That day came and went without contact. When we called them asking if the prescription was ready, and if there were test results, both were ready. But there was audible annoyance that we called them despite them not doing what they said they would, when they said they would. Dr. Lynette is nice but she has too much on her plate to do more than give a cursory glance at your pet's chart. She did not give our cat the attention she needed, and needed us to remind her of all of our cat's issues during each visit. We had an emergency and left a frantic, frightened message asking for help. Without any answer, we took our cat to an emergency vet. They immediately identified pre-existing issues and needs that Dr. Lynette failed to notice. Dr. Lynette treated our cat's symptoms and made zero effort in finding the underlying cause. This resulted in 2 traumatic experiences: 1) We had to put our poor sweet cat down. We lost a beloved member of our family. 2) We found out our beloved girl had been in pain for MONTHS and was quietly suffering because of undiagnosed and untreated issues - issues that the emergency vet eyeballed in their FIRST VISIT and that we were told weren't an issue at this vet. 3) That frantic, tear-filled voicemail that was left shortly before we took our cat to the ER? NEVER ANSWERED. How callous can you be to hear someone crying and asking for help and just...ignore it? We haven't been there in months, since our cat obviously passed away. A competent vet would have maybe noticed we weren't calling for our monthly prescription refill. Or that they never followed up on our cat's chronic UTI that was "being monitored" by them. Or that we are overdue for vaccines. Or that we are overdue for an annual check up. Nope. Nothing. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM. THEY CANNOT HANDLE ANYTHING BEYOND THE MOST BASIC CHECK UP TYPE CARE." I thought this was worth sharing again, as we are still heartbroken and no one deserves for this to happen to their furry family members. Rest in peace my sweet Cocoa girl. I will love you until the end of time. I'm sorry I failed you.

Not only was she friendly and nice. She genuinely cares about your pet and the life for your pet. She asked a lot of questions to ensure she provides the best care needed. I would've never thought that I would need additional shots if my cat was an outdoor cat versus an indoor. I found a dog on the side of the road and rescued him to foster him. I went in to get him checked out so that I could know about any health problems before he was adopted to his forever home, and to get him some immunizations just in case he was behind. During this appt they signed me up for a Paw Plan, stating that would be the cheapest option and not mentioning that it would be several hundred dollars when I canceled the plan at his adoption. So here we are, I have spoken to their billing department (Quentin who was rude and aggressive from the beginning) and their manager (Brittney who spoke to me with a complete lack of empathy and told me it wasn't her job to explain to me why we couldn't come to a compromise over +-$100), neither of whom has been able to explain to me why I should be paying hundreds of dollars for an adopted dog to get two immunizations when I could have gone any number of other places for immunizations that would have costed me less than the Paw Plan payments. They were rude and completely uninterested in a compromised cost, and they have absolutely lost my business forever. Don't expect for any longevity of a perfect client who has paid tens of thousands of dollars over the years, to get you any special consideration. Just a small amount of compromise would have left me feeling better about the interaction and about Holladay Vet in general. I would STRONGLY suggest that Holladay Vet invest in some customer service with their billing. The vet techs and people working at the desk clearly have some; it would be a good idea to clean up the back half so that people like myself don't feel so betrayed and taken advantage of. I would suggest going to ANY other vet clinic in town.

Up front, there's a little store area where you can purchase any number of pet supplies. That will be good to make note of for the future when I need something. We spent the majority of the time with the vet technician, who took a thorough history (as much as we could provide with a new pet) and she helped us retrieve the records from the adoption. The vet came in and did a nose-to-tail checkup, giving a (mostly) clean bill of health. I appreciate the visit and the recommendations they gave and will likely return when the dog needs updated vaccinations or other medical attention.

I came to this VCA after having brought my dogs to various VCA locations in different states throughout the past several decades. VCA used to be known for caring front desk service and compassionate veterinarians. However, this location in the middle of the SL valley is so busy that it seems that most of the people who work at this location have forgotten how to be kind and communicative to pet parents during vet visits. At my first experience here, my dogs and I sat in an exam room for over an hour. I asked multiple times during the hour when we would be seen or if we should make another appointment. Instead of realizing that communication would be helpful, I was treated rudely when I asked how much longer we would be waiting, or if I should make another appointment. While I can understand that some exams might take more time, and emergencies can happen, communication from the staff could go a long way. Instead, I was made to feel as though waiting should be expected and my schedule is not as important as any of the people working here. I should have taken my first experience as a sign of things to come. However, I gave this location multiple opportunities. One of my dogs is about 10 and has arthritis in his spine and hips. At his most recent appointment in June, I asked if we needed bloodwork to be done due to the meds we were trying for him. The vet said no, and we received an email that my dog would not have to be seen for another year. A few weeks after our June appointment, the vet we had been seeing left. When I contacted him to renew the prescriptions he said he would renew, he told me he heard I was going to stay at this location, even though this is not what I had decided. At this location, Dr. Neville would not help my dog unless I had a $500 blood test. The only other bloodwork available was $280. After a month of back and forth as well as being ignored for weeks at a time from both veterinarians, I have decided to bring both of my dogs elsewhere. VCA is the most expensive place to take your pets for many routine tests. They do not appreciate you having things done outside of their practice, or ordering medicine elsewhere. This location and Dr. Neville were dismissive and unwilling to work with me to help my dog despite me suggesting I bring him in to be seen again after his June appointment. While I understand the importance of bloodwork for my dogs if on medication daily, this practice was unwilling to realize that we had just had our yearly exam and were told we did not need bloodwork done. I had asked Neville if we could possibly wait a month or two for bloodwork since I had just paid for graduate school tuition at the U, and this was not acceptable to him. Having never asked for understanding at the vet, this was even more upsetting. I am always willing to pay for what my dogs need at the vet. I was not interested in looking for a new vet at this time in my dog's life, but I refuse to continue going to this VCA when their lack of communication and understanding results in my dog's needs not being taken care of appropriately. This experience has shown me that first impressions really make all the difference, and communication is key to any relationship in health care for humans and pets!
