As an emergency facility my experience has basically been favorable. Their vets are good. Their 24-hour availability is very important. However, their pricing is the very highest anywhere. They offer specialty services, including a veterinary internist, Dr. Mak. She is a good vet, but booked up so far in advance that it is not realistic to obtain her services. Terrible. We brought our older dog in who had stopped eating and was extremely thirsty. Terrible bedside manner. The exam (if it was an exam) occured somewhere else. We did not get a written report just tried to talk us into testing. When we went to our normal vet on Long Island. Front desk staff were polite, professional and courteous. We brought our cat in for an ultrasound and Dr. Mak refused to talk to us regarding results and wouldn't release our cat until we paid. What kind of doctor acts like that? Oh and they don't let the owners accompany the pets for the procedure. A simple ultrasound. It's not like they're doing major surgery. While we were waiting one of the workers was having a loud meltdown because of a problem her food delivery order. Real professional. When we got home we found they had shaved our cat's stomach, put gel on it for the ultrasound and neglected to wipe it off. We were given no discharge instructions. They just wanted their money and that's it. She still has gotten back to our vet regarding the results of the ultrasound, and probably won't until tomorrow. We could be treating whatever is wrong with our cat, but because of her we're not. We'd have to be desperate to come back to this place again. Stay away. Dr. Mak needs to be trained in better customer service, bedside manner and for all I know in how to be a veterinarian. The absolute worst. Do better. read more

I recommend finding an alternative hospital for emergencies because I had an unsatisfactory experience with the end-of-life care for my cat. Dr. Alexandra was the only saving grace of this experience euthanizing my cat. The waiting room experience was worst case scenario. I overheard one of the front desk people complaining that I hadn't signed the paperwork yet because I was "frazzled". Afterwords I was held for an additional hour trying to correct mistakes on my bill and then pay the bill (they have no financing options and make you pay in-full before you leave; I left the apartment without my wallet because I had a very sick cat...) Staff, with the exception of the doctors, did not do a good job explaining what was happening and I felt judged for taking my time to understand everything amidst a very sensitive time. [[Update]] The exact issue surrounding the payment was that they said they accepted Apple Pay but their machine was broken. I left the apartment in a hurry with a sick cat and did not bring my physical wallet because we originally went to my primary vet who has all of my info on file. Then when the situation dramatically changed we ended up at this hospital. The billing coordinator and I ended up finding a solution to pay by a secure link, which was not an option offered to me the day my cat passed, but an option that would have allowed me to grieve in peace rather than be stuck at the hospital for an additional 30 minutes. read more

We waited so long in the waiting room that, by the time we got into an exam room, she had another seizure on the table and died. So much for a humane death. I understand that I did not have an appointment and that you cannot predict when a pet is going to die, but it was a bad experience for me. read more

We took our pet here for constipation and during the visit his bladder was perforated, sending him into critical care. Despite it happening under the doctor's care they charged us double the original price binging it above $3,000. When we asked not to be charged that since we feel it was their fault, they said all they could do was put it under medical review, which is overseen by themselves. We didn't pay there because we were sent to the Brooklyn location for hospitalization. There we paid what we thought was for the Brooklyn stay only to get a call the next day from the Brooklyn location that the downtown location took that money and we owed another $4,500 for Brooklyn. I give two stars because the doctors themselves are great. But wow. I had a couple terrible experiences with the front desk. Specifically, the front desk manager. For that reason, I implore you: DO NOT GO HERE. BEWARE. I have never spoken to anyone who was more condescending and dismissive in my life. I'd hope people working in jobs where others might be distressed (e.g., bringing an animal in for an emergency) would be empathetic. Such is not the case at Blue Pearl. I talked to the front desk manager after a serious of mistakes happened that were pretty terrible. Such as: - got erroneous call that my cat was ready to get picked up (only to wait 100+ minutes outside and miss a meeting due to their error). - got sent the wrong bill - front desk miscommunicated the type of prescription (liquid) that I needed a doctor to call into pharmacy (pills were called in) The manager was rude. Insincere. Condescending. And was literally telling me how I should act. I called this place, Blue Pearl, inept for these mistakes. She told me to stop being "disrespectful" by calling her colleagues inept. I never called one person inept. She put words in my mouth then. She'd do so again. I ended up talking to the manager's supervisor as I was getting nowhere with her. Her supervisor was amazing and assured me they'd do their best moving forward. She'd talk to the manager. Unfortunately, I had to bring my cat back a week later and dealt with the manager again. Blue Pearl said they'd see him in a few minutes. After 25 passed, a woman outside told me she'd been waiting for 90+ minutes and was now going somewhere else. I called the front desk to ask if I could similarly expect to wait 90 minutes. The manager's first response? Telling me not to ask other clients how long they're waiting as it's different for each client. I told her I didn't ask. This woman overheard me telling my husband that this wait was starting to feel like the time I was here for almost 2 hours. She continued to be rude. She asked if I wanted to talk to her supervisor. She then put me on hold for 8 minutes. I never talked to a supervisor. I hung up. People like the front desk manager should not work at a vet. I was disappointed that I had talked to her boss and was assured that changes would be made in the future. And then I encountered the same rudeness again. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Dropped my dog off with extreme stomach issues at 9pm. They did not examine her and I picked her up at 1am because the wait was absurd. They were very rude and honestly the workers don't seem like they even like animals. I waited 4 hours and they didn't do ANYTHING. Another woman was there in hysterics crying over her dog that had just been hit by a car. She was trying to get more information on his condition. On the speaker phone I clearly heard them say "this is not a non profit. You need to pay the 6k regardless if the dog lives or not." Heartless and rude. I think she ended up taking her dog elsewhere. I went to the vet today and started to say how I had a horrible emergency vet experience. Another dog owner next to me immediately responded "oh no did you go to Blue Pearl??" Apparently they tried charging her for MRI scans and things they clearly didn't do. It ended up being $500 and they did nothing. It's clearly a recurring experience here. This place should be shut down. Every day I have to live with the pain of losing my dog because of their negligence. The other reviews tell the same story of carelessness. My dog suffered so they can try different medicines on her that she didn't even need. In the end she was scared and heartbroken without us, she needed us and they pushed us away from being with her when she needed us most. The staff at the front was rude and dismissive. The dr told us not to come get her because she was "doing great" and we never got to see her again. I never write reviews but there is a reason I did for this. Please look elsewhere if you love your pet. It's hard to find a good vet/er but do your own research. This review is looong overdue! I was referred to Dr. Pavia by my veterinarian, for possible surgical removal of a thyroid tumor for my little guy (10 year old Shih-tzu/Yorkshire terrier mix). She patiently explained the surgical process and answered all of my questions. Yes it was pricey (approx $5,000) but due to the location and type of tumor my dog's tumor, I opted to have it done by Dr. Pavia (I contacted numerous veterinarians and vet surgeons prior to making this decision, and they all recommended having a specialist perform the surgery. One surgeon stated he would do the surgery for a fraction of the price, but his instructions of care after my dog received the surgery sounded veryyyyy shady). I decided to have Dr. Pavia perform the surgery and am so thankful that I did! She is truly a Godsend! Not only was she patient upon my initial appointment, but on my little guy's surgical day, she called and provided me with updates before and after his surgery. When he was awake and cleared to have visitors, they allowed me to visit and spend with him--although it was after hospital visiting hours. I am soooo thankful that I was led here, and had Dr. Pavia perform his surgery. Lion Noah recovered extremely well after the surgery. Lion and I are very happy with his results. After Mr. Pug had surgery at HSNY, he received his annual vaccines and I totally forgot to mention that he was allergic to vaccines so we had to rush him here. The manager here was was good friends with the boss at HSNY so I'm not sure if I received special treatment. I bought Mr.Pug downstairs to their ICU/ER suite and placed him in the oxygen cage as I told them the story. Shortly after, they started calculating doses and preparing drugs as I completed the paperwork upstairs. I stayed upstairs in the lobby/waiting area until I knew Mr. Pug was stable. He spent a night in the oxygen cage and the ER veterinarian kept me updated constantly. They took great care of him and I came to pick him up the following morning. The waiting area is quite impressive, they have a coffee/tea station for free as well as free soda! I've never seen this available in a hospital. read more

Recently, cystotomy was performed by Dr kalafut on Patches and he is doing great. On Jan 14th 2021, Emergency GI obstruction removal surgery need to be performed for Patches and transfered to Blue Pearl New York Downtown immediately. I was anxious about the surgery because during Covid, where everything was closed or understaffed. Check-in was a breeze On the way to Blue Pearl I checked Patches online at Blue Pearl N Y . When I showed up at the Hospital, I had to sign bunch of covid forms, but a tech came and took Patches inside immediately for his consult. She did not wait for me to finish. Payment Within few minutes I received a call from the Dr, gave every detail over phone and got an estimate by email, my payment went through and we were waiting outside the hospital. They asked us to leave if we wished as he will be discharged after 24 to 48 hr after surgery and we can continue to be in touch over phone. Pre surgery Dr's call Dr Philipa Pavia, called to give comprehensive detail about the surgery and type which she might have to perform and his surgery was bumped up because of its seriousness. She was certain about what Patches needs and We felt he was in safe hands. She then told us to expect another called as soon as the surgery went through. Post-surgery call About an hour or so later received a call from Patches's Surgeon, Dr Pavia, she said, surgery went well without complication and that she performed an enterotomy to remove foreign object. The object was semi-circular, bald, some sort of a ball that he swallowed whole. She informed us about post surgery complications that could happen and what we need to look out for and also informed us that he will have to stay at least 24 hrs for observation and we will receive a call by evening 6.30 pm Prompt Update call ( Evening) We received an update from the Dr, about how he is doing... and that he is on the mend. He was getting IV fluids and also on pain meds.. Got updates about his walk, diet, and demeanor. She said once he eats solid food we can bring him home. Mostly next day. We were told to expect a call in the morning next day. Timely update call (next day morning 8 am) and discharge discussion. Dr Pavia said Patches is doing great and he is in good spirit, he is not eating but that is not a cause for concern as most Pets do that when they are at hospital. She updated us about his walks, and how there were no surprises overnight and that he is healing. Everything goes like this he can be discharged by 6pm later that day. Discharge instruction call and update Dr gave us more updates about Patches and his activity. instructions about monitoring him, more specifically.. his incision site care. Requested follow up after 2 weeks with Blue Pearl or Dr Jones. And complete discharge instructions. Which will be explained when I come to pick up Patches. By 5pm we were eagerly waiting outside and patches was handed to us with discharge instruction (printout with notes, meds, incision care, follow up date.. Basically everything). He looked healthy and happy and so were we :-). Relieved that he is with us mostly how good the team at Blue Pearl has been with Patches. I am so grateful to Dr Pavia and her team at Blue Pearl Vet Downtown N Y for treating patches during COVID lockdown. They fixed him and treated him with such kindness and compassion. Answered all our questions and put us at ease by prompt communication( frequent timely updates and professionalism). That's where I ended up with my dog almost in shock in less than 24 hours from having been to this ER. If you want more details read on. My 2.5 year old healthy dog started vomiting bloody like substance at 7pm I ran there ASAP. They gave him subcutaneous fluids and antinausea meds and said he'd be fine. They said expect explosive diarrhea. At 6am the next day it was blood instead. I called them telling them it looks like a crime scene from d amount of blood. They asked if anything else is there I say a couple of brown things. They say when he eats give him this other pill (which they had not given me but I had on hand from regular vet). I thought OK they're the experts but I call my vet's office, His receptionist heard the story and tells me to come in! I don't like the blood part! She told me my vet's colleague can squeeze me in at 3:30. She comes out to d waiting room, sees him and quickly told me to go to AMC because they'll have the ICU he needs. She called ahead and when I got there they got us right in. He stayed in the ICU for a night and for another couple of days in the regular hospital portion. He's home and recovering quite well thank God. But all that heartache could've been avoided had they just said bring him in or something once they heard it was like a crime scene. I hope this was just a rare occurrence but it was my worst nightmare. If you need a regular vet try Gramercy Park Vet. Had Debbie, one of the receptionists there not told me to come in, I would've lost my furbaby that day because the time for him to eat and take the other pill as this place told me would've never come. I highly recommend Blue Pearl Downtown. I have two elderly cats who both recently developed multiple health issues. Dr. Emma Stanley has provided excellent care, including successfully excising a nasopharyngeal growth that was severely inhibiting my cat's breathing. Dr. Stanley has expertly guided me, to determine which medications and treatments would work best, considering the side effects (and costs). She coordinated with the other Blue Pearl specialists who examined our cats: Dr Grossbard (surgeon) and Dr Lee (oncologist). Her communication is very detailed and very calm, so I don't feel rushed but instead am always fully informed. The front desk and support staff are wonderful! They are always very welcoming, helpful, and informative. read more

My cat started having a cough a few months ago. Our vet thought it was asthma but we got an Xray and realized she had a mass in her abdomen. My vet is great but this required a specialist. We called everywhere. The earliest appointment we could get was at this location three weeks later. Mind you when we got there it was empty and they seemed to be eating and joking around mostly. An intern came in to get our information. The intern was nice. Dr. Mak was the specialist. The intern said she had to take the cat downstairs to have Dr. Mak examine it. I understand why people would do this but I think the owner should have an option to go. After about 20 minutes Dr. Mak shows up without my cat mind you. It was clear she was reading the radiology report she has from my vet and gave me the same prognosis which was bad. It seemed like she was gleaning this information as she read it. I don't know this person and I'm not going to say anything nasty but she seemed completely indifferent, repeated what my vet said and I asked her even if this isn't cancer will it still likely end her life because of where it is and she said yes. The disgusting thing is what happened next. After telling me that hard truth she had an intern bring me in a 6000 dollar quote for a cat scan. I showed this to a friend who is a vet in LA and they said that it was straight up gouging and how a vet can tell you your cats prognosis is terminal and then try to push a 6000 dollar test on you is cruel and borderline unethical. Dr. Mak spent about 6 minutes with us repeating data we already had and then charged us 380 dollars for the privilege. The only reason I didn't complain was because we were an emotional wreck and I didn't want to upset my girlfriend. BluePearls always had a bad reputation but I had no clue they could be this bad. Stay away from this place at all costs. These are not compassionate and helpful doctors. The specialists I had to pay 380 dollars for was there for six minutes reading a report I gave her and she didn't even seem to want to do that. If you love your animal don't bring them here. It will only cause more hurt. Emotionally and financially. To tell someone their cats prognosis is terminal and to then try to grift 6k from them on a test that would put the animal in pain is evil. I had an extremely disturbing call with Blue Pearl downtown NYC today, and as a result will never use their facilities again. My dog, Juniper, was diagnosed with Mast Cell cancer about 1.5 years ago, and was a patient of Brooke Britton. When we saw Dr. Britton in June, she said we could bring Juniper back in 6-7 months, because she's doing so well. And then Dr. Britton left Blue Pearl in July. First, I never received any notification from Blue Pearl downtown that Dr. Britton left. If I had, we wouldn't be scrambling now. So, I called Blue Pearl downtown today to make an appointment with Dr. Lee, who is the Brooklyn oncologist, and was told that since we hadn't been there in over 6 months, and Juniper has to see a new doctor, that this is no longer a routine, existing patient check up, but a new patient visit. This, of course, brings with it a host of extra charges, and doubles the visit fee. When I tried to address this over the phone, the receptionist basically shamed me - "well, you haven't brought her in to see a Blue Pearl vet in over 6 months, so I'm not sure what you want." And they refused to give me an estimate. I asked to speak with a manager, and supposedly one will call me (I'm not holding my breath). I will not be returning to Blue Pearl, anywhere, ever again! read more

Bad management + poor service + easy avoidable fails + beloved pets unwell = confusion and helplessness The doctor was responsive on the telephone but then the notes according to our veterinarian were lacking information required to provide immediate followup care. We appreciate the emergency services but everything else has been terrible and extremely expensive. We had 2 visits with them. The 1st time my wife had to wait 1.5 hours on the sidewalk to pick up our cat even though they knew we were coming and gave us a specific time. This was semi understandable given that our cat had been hospitalised overnight. Why wouldn't they just say were very busy. Here's a pager and will page you when your cat is up or I'll take your phone number and call you? Then you could go somewhere sit down even at a local cafe or restaurant with outdoor seating. There's no reason they couldn't handle it better with even a little thoughtfulness. Instead they have some folding chairs on the sidewalk in the cold while charging thousands and thousands of dollars. They could at least set up a waiting area with a heater. Poor management. We took her back for a follow up ultrasound at the recommendation of our veterinarian and when I went to pick her up a few hours after the test they had me waiting for 45 minutes. I had to call the front desk 4 times and become very assertive to get them to bring the cat out. The front desk staff was giving me implausible explanations for the long delay such as telling me the cat was on another floor. When I became insistent they brought the cat out right away. I actually had to say I was going to call the police to get them to bring our pet out (which they were somehow able to do all of a sudden). The nurse who brought the cat out told me they had a couple of emergencies and apologised for the delay. All they would have had to have said is that we are having emergencies and we are sorry can you please wait? Instead the front desk staff was giving Implausible reasons and making excuses. I know how hard it is to train desk staff and for a company with multiple locations I would expect them to have figured it out read more

This review is specifically for Dr. Britton of the Oncology department. After a horrible diagnosis of metastatic cancer, my dog George and I visited her to evaluate our options. I read her prior reviews and saw her credentials and was willing to drive into the city from Brooklyn specifically for her. We knew the dire prognosis he had, but wished to extend our time together as long as possible. Dr. Britton is perhaps the most professional Veterinarian I have ever come across. She answers questions promptly and expresses concern when needed. She suggested the most reasonable treatment course, and though it was unfortunately not successful, she didn't drag myself or my pal through any tests or procedures that were not necessary. She was a light to us in a very dark time. Any question or concern I had was returned within 24 hours. At the end, when it was time to make a tough decision for my buddy, when all treatments were failing and he told me he was ready to go, she was reasonable and supportive of the decision. She even went out of her way to follow up with condolences after the fact. I highly recommend this professional vet. read more

These people are dirtbags. They are not capable to fully treat a patient. Long story short, when they diagnose a dog with cancer, they should be able to treat the cancer. The oncologist on staff sent a Rx to a mail order service and getting any from them in the meantime is impossible unless the oncologist is there. So ANY vet can write a Rx for this medication. And an oncologist provided notes regarding the treatment. But the lazy, blame shifting, bureaucratic hospital won't dispense a Rx unless the oncologist is there. If the oncologist is on vaca for a month, your furry friend would be out of luck. Just tell that tumor to wait to grow anymore until they're back from vaca. Don't bother with Blue Pearl. Go to Verg. At least when you've spent thousands at Verg they don't treat you like you're trying to grift 3 doses of cancer meds from them. read more

Our newly adopted beagle, Auggie, was having a hard time adjusting to his new home in the city and showing it with some concerning GI behavior. On Sunday night, BluePearl was the only place to get some quick answers. We went in without any wait. All the staff were very nice to us and the pooch, Dr. Ravitz was really professional and kind, recognizing that we were anxious first-time dog owners. New dog owner here, dog sounded like it was choking/had something stuck in his throat. Brought him here because i was worried, and they told me they wanted to run a bunch of tests and scans on him. They found nothing in his system, gave me some medicine, and told me to keep him away from other dogs. Charged me a couple grand for everything. Later i showed a video of him coughing to a friend and she told me it was called "kennel cough". Did more research and thats exactly what it was. Appalling treatment. One evening my dog appeared to be having trouble clearing his throat, his breathing was labored and he was really zapped of energy. His own vet had left for the evening so I tried for a number of hours to soothe him with the view to having his vet check him over the next morning. However around midnight he really seemed to be struggling, clearly, there was something stuck in his throat which was severely impacting his breathing. I took him to Blue Pearl in Chelsea. When I arrived there was only one other person in the waiting room. I explained the problem to the receptionist, she had a vet tech come to meet me. When she arrived she was totally non-plussed by the situation. My dog at one point was actually choking in front of her and she said it was just 'reverse sneezing'. I explained that I knew what reverse sneezing was and this was not it, to which I received a shrug. She said she would speak to the vet and left me in the exam room. No more than two minutes later the receptionist entered the room and said that there was nothing that they could do. I could wait until 4 am at which time a vet might be available. We left, both of us very distressed at this point. At home I managed to get my dog to sleep, though he was making a strange noise, clearly, his airway was still compromised. At 2 am he woke up very panicked and struggling to breathe. I really thought I was going to lose him and tried everything I could to free his airway. Miraculously after much effort, he coughed up a small stone, the cause of his distress. I had never taken my dog to emergency care before this incident and if I find myself in the unfortunate situation of having to do so in future I will most certainly not take him to Blue Pearl Downtown. They had a duty of care to my dog, their negligence could have resulted in his death. Shameful. read more

Very pleased by the expert care my cat received from Dr. Emma Stanley,. an internist at Blue Pearl. We came in with a case of IBD, inflammatory bowel disease, which is persistent and notoriously tricky to cure. Our primary care vet had given us a binary choice---either start the cat on steroids or have a biopsy performed. The latter would cost us $3600 and require 48 hours of prep in which the cat could intake no food. Steorids have many potential risks and side effects. Dr. Stanley gave us a third choice: trying to fix the cat's gut bacteria, a path requiring far less expensive off-the-shelf pills with NO side effects. To our delight, the cat has responded well to that. Our primary care vet admitted that she had only limited knowledge of the course of treatment we were given. This shook our faith in that doctor and we are switching primary care vets. Dr. Stanley has been attentive, responding to emails, and is a caring and skilled professional. I recommend her unreservedly to any pet owner with a protracted and difficult to treat disease such as IBD. Given the high stakes and the potentially difficult alternatives provided, one can say that she saved our cat's life and at the very least spared him an unecessary course of steroids. read more

RIP OFF! This place just tries to PUMP MONEY OUT OF YOUR PET. DO NOT GO HERE. 1) Prices are DOUBLE compared to other area hospitals (compared with Animal Medical Center also in Manhattan) 2) They post false information on their front door regarding how to get in touch with their management/finance and then give you the runaround when you try to find the right person. The person they post DOESN'T EVEN WORK THERE ANYMORE. 3) They MISDIAGNOSED my pup with a torn CCL (ACL in humans) and charged $8,600 for TPLO procedure (same surgery is $5800 at AMC). Turns out her CCL is fine and they got it completely wrong. Then they still charged $5,600 for the FAILED SURGERY, which is as much as the whole procedure would have costed at AMC. 4) They do NOT have the animal's best interest in mind. My pup has a heart murmur which she's had since puppy, instead of checking back in 3 months to see if it was stable, they immediately recommended putting her on drugs for the rest of her life. I'M THE ONE THAT HAD TO ASK IF WE SHOULD CHECK to see if it was stable in 3 months instead of PUTTING HER ON DRUGS THE REST OF HER LIFE, which turns out is a fine option they just neglected to tell me it was an option. The doctor I saw for my dog - Dr. Britton - was incredible. She is an oncologist and you could not find a more informed, compassionate specialist for your dog. I gave four stars because I just would do anything to access her services should I ever need them again. And you should too. She explained exactly what was wrong, my options, and allowed me to make decisions. She actively listened to me, and made me feel heard. I was extremely upset, and she took all the time I needed to get me through a very difficult process. The staff, on the other hand, are not so great. They obviously lack the same compassion and empathy as the doctors. This would at least be those with whom I had interaction. Making an appointment was very difficult. The person talked so quickly, I literally had no idea which location I was supposed to go to. They are so busy, my dog had to suffer for ten days. I had to call back before the appointment just to make sure we were all set (which, in fairness, we were). Once I got there, it is in and extremely difficult location. There is nowhere to park or even stand your vehicle. If your dog is in distress, you absolutely need two people to go to this location. One to deal with your pet, and the other to deal with the car. My dog was in such rough shape, and they made me wait outside for someone to come get him. This is a common Covid protocol which is in no way based on science. Plenty of businesses (healthcare) have found ways to interact with their patients - without making them wait outside. This is a vet thing, and needs to stop. I love BluePearl because of the doctors. I wish they'd invest in support staff and processes that reflect the quality of the doctors. read more

My cat had a urinary blockage at 5AM on Sunday, which is life-threatening if not treated in 48h. My excellent vet (Worth St) recommended Blue Pearl for emergencies so I packed kitty up and headed in. Pros * You can walk in here any time of day or night, 365 days a year and get your pet taken care of in minutes * They offer really intense, around the clock coverage * Every vet I talked to here knew his shit, answered my questions patiently and talked me through every major decision in his care * I was able to visit my cat every day, even at weird hours * The area where the animals are kept is a little sterile, maybe, but it's clean and spacious * People working here seemed to generally love animals and the other pets I saw were treated with respect and affection * Billing was transparent and came in under estimates. No idea how insurance process works as I was unfortunately uninsured. Cons * This place is fing expensive. Granted, my cat was in a life-threatening situation and needed a lot of medication, but emergency care was roughly 1000$/day. Overall, I would very much recommend this facility if you're having a pet emergency -- as long as you (or your insurance) can swing it. read more

The doctor was absolutely unprofessional. She scared us with her incorrect diagnosis. My cat was having a bad anxiety attack that's all. When I tried to communicate this with the her, she threatened to stop treating my cat, it was 11 pm at night so I didn't have much option but let her treat my cat with the most expensive treatment. The next day I took him to another vet and they confirmed his anxiety attack. They also mentioned the bluepearl doctor did not give my cat adequate amount of medical dosage per his body weight to calm his anxiety. I am extremely disappointed in Bluepearl and will never recommend this place to my friends and family. It is clearly a for-profit organization and does not give a damn about the pets or the pet owners. Only money minded people taking advantage of the pet owners!! read more

Although a very clean facility with shiny floors and a free coffee machine, this place is horrendously expensive and prone to clumsy mistakes. We had two of our cats treated there (late 2019-early 2020, and then in July). The first went through 3 months of chemo-therapy and sadly passed away. Cost: $13,000. Then our other cat came down with some kind of urinary tract/kidney issue. Blue Pearl charged $7,000 for two overnight visits, and on the morning of the second visit they recommended euthanasia. They had no explanation for our boy's sudden deterioration. Our cats were senior cats and Blue Pearl's doctors probably did the best they could. However, with such high fees, I would have expected a high level of customer care (or what they call "concierge care" for humans nowadays). Unfortunately that is not the case. Here are some of the issues we encountered which do not testify to a high level of client care: 1. While undergoing chemo one technician filmed my cat meowing in distress and then later showed it to me as "cute". This is just not right. 2. One time the door to our cat's pet carrier was not locked. In other words, she could have pushed open the door and run out into the street. The tech could not figure this out? 3. When picking up our cat from chemo, the technicians need to be rung up twice before they brought up our cat, thus wasting a half hour of my time. 4. The phone connection is terrible because they have had a large construction site outside their front door for the last year. Now in Covid-19 times, I can only talk to the doctors while waiting outside, and I have to compete with loud drills. 5. On one chemo appointment Blue Pearl charged me an extra $500. At least when I complained they apologized for the mix up, but it took more than one phone call. 6. Pricing for meds is 4x higher than at my regular vet. Prednisolone at the local vet is $20 It's $80 at BP for the exact same thing. 7. Weight loss is an important indicator of treatment effectiveness. One time their weight measurement was very different than the one I did at home (usually they are the same). Later, BP told me that the weight difference would not have made a difference in their treatment plan. That does not reassure me. 8. When trying to identify if our cat had cancer or an inflamed bowel, we had to spend $4000. At the end of the day the results contradicted themselves so we got absolutely nothing out of these biopsies. We were never informed of the possibility that we would spend 4000 dollars with nothing to show for it. 9. In August we were given a medicine to administer to our cat as an outpatient. When I asked if he needed a dose that night they said 'no', and then later changed their mind and said 'yes' when I insisted they check the records. 10. In the same episode, the medicine we took home had instructions to add water to it before giving it to our cat. The technicians forgot to inform us that they had already "pre-mixed" the medicine. Fortunately I called to make sure, otherwise we would have diluted the necessary dosage. 11. As per the doctor's instructions, I scheduled an ultrasound for our cat after waiting 5 days. On the day of the visit I called with a non-related question and learned that they had no record of my appointment. We were unable to have our cat seen that day (overbooked) and so had to wait till the next day. The day after that they recommended euthanasia for him. I really wonder if they had been able to keep their schedule straight then they could have saved our dear boy's life. 12. I made an issue of the above scheduling error and wanted to speak to the manager about some kind of recompense. They dodged me for two days and I eventually gave up. 13. In an earlier episode, BluePearl claimed that I had not paid a bill. They were finally convinced that i had done so after I recited the confirmation notice of my payment. It was very irritating that the receptionist assumed that my claim of a satisfied balance was a lie and would only investigate further upon verbal pressure from me. 14. On the night that our second pet had to be euthanized (the same day we brought him home from BP), the at-home doctor (who is awesome BTW) informed me that Blue Pearl had inserted his catheter wrong. This caused his final injection to be a painful experience. This is just heartbreaking and the EXACT OPPOSITE of what I wanted. 15. Earlier on, while waiting for the (soon to be mis-scheduled) ultrasound, I had a question about the meds for our cat, and BP could not reach the doctor for 5 days. That is just unbelievable. I never got an answer. Those are the facts. Not recommended. Next time I would go back to the Animal Medical Center (https://www.amcny.org/). They are also expensive but at least they were professional. read more

I have taken my animals to blue pearl for years. When it was Fifth Ave Vet it was good. Now? Horrible. Awful. The vets are still excellent. But the service, management, staff, etc was absolute trash at my most recent visit. Covid and winter and sick pets are stressful enough without having to argue with snide office staff while standing out in the cold in a construction zone. I am so sorry to lose a semi-decent animal clinic. But their management gives absolutely zero concern for the safety, comfort, wellbeing, etc of their customers. They treat pets well, but they treat humans like absolute crap. And to be honest, I'm not just basing this review on my experience today. There has been a serious decline in the quality of administrative staff since Fifth Ave switched to Blue Pearl, and then in the most recent four years. It seems like the more corporate it becomes, the higher the turnover, and the reduction in bedside manner. Finally, I want to be clear this poor review is in no way an indictment of the MEDICAL care provided by the talented doctors on staff. Dear Mr. Shaw, I am writing to you about my experience on June 12, 2021 at Blue Pearl on 15th Street in New York City. The day before, my 15 year old female dog became lethargic and began bleeding from below. After a brief visit to my Veterinarian I was referred to Blue Pearl for potential evaluation and treatment for my dog Gracie. In retrospect, it was clear or should have been clear to the medical professionals at Blue Pearl that Gracie was terminally ill. I was under extreme duress, not thinking clearly and in a state of shock. I was presented with an agreement for permission to provide evaluation and care and required to submit my American Express card to secure payment. The next day when I went to Blue Pearl to discuss the situation I was calm and able to think clearly. It was immediately apparent to me that my dog was beyond help and needed to be euthanized, which was carried out shortly after. I received a final bill which I find to be not only to be outrageous but abusive. The total amount for less that 24 hours of care for a terminally ill animal was $6822.00 USD. I have called Blue Pearl three times and spoke to Claudia in billing who told me a supervisor would be in touch. I asked what her supervisors name is and she said she does not know. Additionally. I walked over on June 24th to see if I could speak with someone and I was told a supervisor would be touch to discuss this outrageously high bill, especially all of the unnecessary testing and treatments. Four different times I was told someone in your organization would be in touch, but this has never happened. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount based on a discussion with a representative from Blue Pearl but they have been unwilling to talk to me. I had an accident with my pet (dog) late on a sunday night and when my boyfriend and I looked up emergency pet hospitals we came a crossed Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, due to the recent pandemic it was the only one open so we immediately got in the car and rushed her to the hospital. Upon arriving they took the animal into the hospital and refused to let us in. We had to wait outside to hear what they had to do next to start assessing her injuries, they called us and told us that they would keep her overnight to get her started on vitals and an IV beforfe they get the surgeon in to see if she needed emergency surgery and we agreed but they told us the price would be 3,000 to keep her for the night, we agreed and went home. The next morning they called us and said that the surgeon took a look and said they needed to do surgery, but that the cost would be clsoe to 9,000 and that they needed a deposit before they could proceed. I asked if the finance department could give us a break because it is a pandemic and I was unemployed and she told me unfortunately that was the cost to have to surgery for our dog. We took out 2 credit cards one was care credit the other was an USAA credit card, we charged the downpayment on it and they proceeded with the surgery. About 5 hours later they called us after the surgery and said it went well and that she would most likely would recover and be OK they did say they had to remove her spleen and a nodule near her spleen. We were delighted to hear that the poor baby made it through and was going to recover. They told us no news is good news we will call you later, they called us later and gave us an update that she was in stable condition. The next morning I got woken up by a call at 6:30 AM from the hospital that my dog had passed away. Unfortunately they said due to her injuries her lungs gave out and she did not make it. I then was left with a 12,000 pet bill that they refused to accomodate me with and a dead dog. I went on the website and saw the reviews of others and there were thousands of reviews that were similar to mine "paid a ton of money to this hospital to help get my furbaby get healthy and the animal is dead". This company is a factory for killing poor innocent animals and then leaves the owner with thousands of dollars in debt. I will not allow this to continue without bringing light to this company especially during a pandemic when the least someone needs is their animal dying. Once my dog had passed they then said they would need an extra $180 for the ashes and paw print, as if 12k was not enough. I agreed because I wanted the remains of my animal. We went and got the remains and a week later they called which was TODAY and asked if I was going to be picking up my dogs remains, the women that I primarily was dealing with is naimed DAISHIA, I told her I am not sure what she is saying because I already picked up the remains, and that I wanted to speak to a manager she put me on hold and then told me her manager was in a meeting and would call me back. This company is CLEARLY scamming people during a pandemic and trying to get as much money as they can out of people during the most vulnerable time in their lives. Furthermore I have a death certificate from them with the wrong name of my dog, after 12k you would think they could the name of my dog right. if I wasn't so on top of things they could be scamming innocent old people that don't keep track of when they pay or haven't paid for things with this company. My request for the justice of my animal and everyone elses that have been subjected to this inhumane company is to please launch a full investigation as to the killing factory that this company is running and stealing peoples money. UPDATE- I spoke to the customer service client representative that reached out to me after I sent their corporate office my complaint and spoke to her for a good hour about what had taken place at their facility and they basically told me in a nutshell there was nothing more they could do for me that the amount that was charged was to be paid which was 12k and a dead dog that they do not offer any type of pandemic relief at all. I will continue to fight for the justice of my pet and if you don't want to end up with a dead animal and thousands of dollars in debt I highly recommend NOT BRINGING YOUR PET HERE! read more

I had a terrible, terrible experience with BP Downtown, involving a wrong diagnosis, an Emergency vet who hollered at me (from another Yelp review, this vet is apparently a regular screamer), and a much beloved 15 year old cat that ended up dead. And then a final bill that inserted erroneous charges to justify not giving back a several-thousand-dollar deposit. I & my family are so disgusted, we haven't yet sent a demand letter. We will. Ironically, I've had good experiences with BP Midtown, so maybe you'd have better luck there? I always wonder when I see mostly one-star and five-star reviews, where the truth lies? read more
