I have been coming to this Laundromat since I've lived in the city, almost ten years. Even when I live in a place with a washer and dryer in the building, it always feels like less hassle to haul all my clothes to the Bluenose. I'm not alone in that either, my best friend also feels the same way. She'll call me up and we'll launder together, waiting for laundry is better with a friend, but if you don't have a laundry buddy the Bluenose has free Wi-Fi. Bill and Maria are a couple of the nicest people you will ever encounter and are always there to help, 7 days a week you will find one of them in there. They also offer dry cleaning and a drop off service for those of you who have ...what do they call it? Oh yeah, extra money. A little pro-tip: if you go Monday-Saturday the Good Food is open and is attached to the Laundromat so you can grab something to eat or a coffee and wait out those washer/dryers. Beware! They have better hours of operation than anywhere else and the machines are always fully operational. I've never needed to use a laundromat in Halifax. What does seem like a positive strikes me as unfortunate when I hear of friends heading to the Bluenose for some laundry socials. It's this great platform to relax, read a book, watch TV, or chat with a fellow clothes washer. I've been in here on a few occasions, specifically to accompany friends doing their chores. I love the little boxes of soap, probably the best part of any laundromat. However, the service here even outweighs the adorable mini detergents, as this place has a homey vibe ripe with great customer service and quality machines. If you don't want to stick around, you can pay the fee to have the Bluenose folks do your laundry for you. But if you're like me, you'll probably prefer to attend to your own garments. This place is the tops and if I'm ever in need of washing machines in this city, this will definitely be my destination of choice. read more

This place is AWESOME. If I knew of any laundromats like this in Toronto, I would do my laundry WAY more often and not haul my ass to the faraway houses of friends and family to save myself two to three hours of loitering in a hellhole. As soon as I walked in, the staff greeted me and asked if I needed anything. I said I needed detergent and she asked which machine I wanted, and poured it in for me. She was happy to make change for me too (I only had toonies), and when I asked about how long the washing machine would take she told me 35 minutes. That sounded too good to be true - but it was! And my shit was actually CLEAN. (I have many a time done laundry at a place where I had to do the wash twice because everything was still dirty.) The dry took maybe 20-30 minutes. They had nice little rolly things to put your clothes in and also a space to stand and fold everything. There was enough space and resources for everyone there, and I am *astounded* I could be in and out in an hour. Fucking insane. And all of that for four dollars! There are many housekeeping chores that I actually enjoy completing. Washing the dishes can be very calming. Using a handheld vacuum to suck up some dust? Sadistic fun. But I will go to great lengths to avoid doing laundry. I don't know why. It's not a particularly taxing chore and the end result is (usually) a stack of warm, fresh clothes. But if I have to wear a 14 year old Indigo Girls t-shirt to school in order to squeeze one more day out of my laundry cycle, I will do it without hesitation. It is with that extended disclaimer that I say that, most of the times I've been to the Bluenose Laundromat, it has been to drop off a load of laundry for cleaning service. Later that day (or the next morning, if I've been putting my laundry off for a particularly long time), I pick up my freshly laundered garments and gasp in amazement at how neatly they've been folded into my laundry bag. Really and truly, I love this place. The drop-off service is not ridiculously expensive (I think it's less than $10 for a couple normal loads of laundry) and they've never destroyed any of my gay man sweaters, which is more than I can say for my own clothes-washing capabilities. I have been in a few times to use the facilities to wash my own clothes and it's always been pleasant enough. There are plenty of machines, so I doubt that's an issue for many. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. My only wish is that they'd install their own WiFi, though you can usually jump on to the WiFi from the restaurant next door. More seating would be nice, too, though space may prevent this. All in all, highly recommended laundromat. And, god bless them, they've never even mentioned the fact that I have a pair of Tonka Truck boxer briefs in fire engine red. read more

When my washer/dryer was stuck in a hostage crisis I needed a laundromat to clean my clothes. I had heard a lot of great things about this place so I decided to check it out. I have not been to a lot of laundromats, but after going to this place, I don't think I'd want to check another one out. Nobody could be as helpful as these people. The man who was working while I was here was very friendly and seemed interested in my story of washer/dryer woe. We had a great chat and he was happy to help in any way he could. He kept tabs of prices and receipts for me to give my landlord (who was also being a great guy and covering the charges while the washer/dryer was out of commission) and helped me carry my endless bags of clothing to the car after they were done. He went the extra mile for me and he didn't have to. For that, I will always recommend the Bluenose Laundromat above all others. If you're starting to look like Pigpen from the Peanuts comics, then this is the place to go! read more

I hate doing laundry. The apartment I live in now is the first place I've lived in which I had to travel to do laundry and that fact makes me want to do it less because I have to leave my apartment and put aside time each week in order to do that. When I *must* do laundry, I go to the Bluenose Laundromat. I'll admit I haven't been to many laundromats in my day but of the ones I have visited, I think this one is the most efficient. There are many washing machines and almost as many dryers. Washing is a standard $1.75, which apparently is slightly less than other places, while drying is 25cents for 4 minutes. Now, allow me to explain. The first time I saw that, I was shocked because I'm used to drying clothes to take nearly an hour. I thought to myself, there's no way I'm paying $3 for 48 minutes of drying time for every load of clothes I wash. Nope! Most times, four or five quarters is all I need for these huge industrial dryers to fully dry my load of clothes. I can be in and out of here in about an hour and a few extra minutes. Feeling lazy? Drop-off service is available too. For about $7 (I think), you can have a garbage bag-sized load of laundry washed, dried and folded and ready for pick-up. Being as cheap as I am though, I typically just go for the job myself at about $3 a load. My only qualm is the lack of seating. There are only 7 or 8 chairs in the entire place and I consider laundry time to double over as reading time so if I can't find a seat, I can't read. Hence my note-to-self to avoid this place on Sunday afternoons. read more

I live nearby the Bluenose Laundromat, and it certainly sucks the shitty out of having to do laundry. The folks working there are always pleasant and conversational. The woman running the counter showed me how to use everything at a newbie. The prices on the machines seemed high to me at first, but the older dude who also mans the counter showed me how to save myself some quarters on the dryers. So sweet. There's a relaxed environment, the hours of operation are awesome, the Good Food Emporium is next door, they're efficient and clean and I feel safe leaving my fancy lacy items alone in a washer for an hour if something comes up. If you ever find yourself in need of a place to wash your clothes and you happen to leave somewhat near the area, Bluenose is one excellent choice. The place is own by a Greek couple. Bill, the owner is a character with his heavy Greek accent and his harmless sense of humour. Probably the nicest business owner you will ever find in this city. His Wife, Maria, is moody, some days she is very polite and patient but eventually you will find her stressing out and even being a little rude. The prices are reasonable, 2 dollars for a washing machine and 25 cents for every four minutes of the dryer. Seems to me that they now have wi-fi but I've asked the young gentleman that was filling in for Bill (who is visiting Greece at the moment) and he didn't know about it nor he knew the password. I haven't been in here since I moved out of the neighbourhood, but I have to give a big shout out to the folks at the Bluenose because they made my life so much easier for many years. At first. I used to go there to do my own laundry every week. The owners were always very nice. Eventually, when I started doing a little better financially, I graduated to drop-off, and they would wash, dry and fold my entire laundry every week. What a pleasure that was, and what a great job they always did. Never lost a thing, never shrank a thing. And they always had a big smile, no matter now many hours they had been working (and it seemed like a lot). Super nice people. read more

Clean facility, effective machines, friendly staff, and priced well It's a bit of a trek for me, since I'm always on foot, but I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I have limited experience with laundromats, but compared to the other one that I had been going to previously, Bluenose is amazing! The owner is incredibly helpful and friendly. The washers are large and cost only $2/load, and they actually manage to get my clothes clean during their 35 minute cycle. The dryers are large, effective, and not overly expensive (25 cents/3 minutes). I left mine in for thirty minutes, and when I pulled them out they were so hot I needed to let them cool before I could handle them. There are rolly carts and tubs available to use. The place is also super clean. The floors looked like they had mopped just that day, and I even saw the owner going around with a cloth and wiping the machines down while I waited for my clothes to dry. There's also wifi, a television, a restaurant next door, and some beautiful paintings hanging on the walls. Everyone who was there seemed to be in a good mood as well, which says a lot since chores can make people grumpy. My only complaint would be the lack of seating. I counted six chairs when I was in, but it's a big place with several machines so it's a shame they couldn't fit more in. Overall though, it's a wonderful facility with everything you could hope for. My dryer quit, so rather than have all my towels strewn over my house, I thought I would try this laundry mat. Now, I do admit that I didn't see the sign about no dryer usage unless you use the washing machines. Since my husband and I were the only ones in the place, neither of us figured it would be an issue. The (I assume) owner was unpleasant, even rude. This is how you build a business? As we were leaving, my husband apologized for the misunderstanding, and said we would know better for next time....he was being polite because there will not be a next time!!! Had to stop by today, since my old washer is starting to bite the dust... I was impressed with this place- and judging by the sheer number of people at Bluenose, clearly I wasn't the only one! The place is quite spacious (especially compared to the "laundromats" I used to use when I lived in Rez at university: THOSE were small!), and the facilities are clean and well-maintained. There are a lot of laundry combos here, so there isn't any awkward waiting for equipment. You can bring your own suds, but I just bought a package at Bluenose- largely because I forgot mine, but also it just seems to smell "fresher" than the stuff I buy at Shoppers. Prices are standard as with any other coin-op laundromat (though I'm not certain if you have to pay extra if their staff launders your clothes- I did "self-serve" this time around). Waiting for laundry here isn't a chore; there are tvs you can watch, and the people who work here and come for laundry serveices all tend to be friendly, so time passes quickly. As my washer's days appear to be numbered, I expect that I will be heading to the laundromat often-and based on the service here, it's very likely I'll be returning here. read more

We just moved to the area and decided to drop off a shirt and dress to be dry cleaned. The top was my fiancé's 'tank top' or whatever you wanna call it, a beach shirt that had a stain on it and we were hoping dry cleaning could get it out. My dress was just a simple cotton dress which was also stained. I'm fully aware that regardless of whether or not the stain comes out, we still have to pay for it. The woman at the front desk was essentially trying to talk me out of using their services, saying 'there's a slim chance' that they could get either stain out. She told me it would be $3.50 for the shirt (despite their board right in front saying 'shirts $2.50'. I mentioned this and she said 'yeah but this doesn't classify as a shirt'.. I let it go, but was thinking it should classify as LESS than a shirt considering it's a tank top. Nonetheless, I told her $3.50 was fine because he really likes the shirt. We looked at my dress and she basically said it wasn't worth it because they were going to charge me $15!!!! to dry clean my dress! This isn't a wedding gown, it's a plain cotton dress! There was no way I was paying that much without the guarantee that they could remove the stain, so I just gave them the shirt. As she wrote up my receipt, the man, who I assume is the owner, told her it was going to be $4.00 because of a 'policy change'. This seemed like news to her, so she said she would still only charge me $3.50 and wrote that on our receipt. Fast-forward 3 days to today, when the shirt was to be ready. We went in with our receipt (which said we owed $3.50) and the same guy who was there when his coworker told us she'd only charge us $3.50, told me they had a "policy change" over the weekend and that it was now going to cost me $4.50?!?! Aside from the fact that they didn't even get the stain out, what kind of customer service is that? Totally understandable if you're going to have a "policy change", sure, increase your prices, but how about you honour the price you gave us 3 days ago and WROTE ON OUR RECEIPT? Terrible customer service and first impression - we won't be back! read more

There's something about laundromats that make me feel like I'm in some kind of American drama film. Is it just me? I like that the dryers here actually WORK unlike the ones in my apartment building that have been broken for over a year now (thanks landlord). It's just down the street and there are some plastic chairs for you to sit in and wait while you do your laundry. Not overly comfortable, but alright. I'd probably give them five stars if they got some couches or something. The fact that they have wifi so I can actually do stuff instead of watching the paint dry so to speak makes it a winner in my books. Nothing more annoying like a long wait and nothing to do. There's a place next door I like to go and buy a drink while I'm waiting as well. I have no experience with the dry cleaning service. All in all, it fits my expectations. Don't expect any hot A-list actors to bust in and bang you on the washers though like you see in the movies - much disappoint. :( But otherwise, pretty good! read more

I drove into the city to do laundry because the one in Bedford sucks. When I arrived, the owner was cleaning one of the washers - nice! Washers worked great. I didn't need the dryers. Just waiting for my washer at home to be repaired. In the meantime, it's going to be Bluenose. EDIT: I accidentally left a whole bag of my laundry behind when I was loading the car. I just started using the Bluenose a few weeks ago, and it's become one of my favourite routines. Maria is super helpful and kind - on the long weekend, I completely failed to read the holiday hours posted and threw a load in half an hour before she needed to close. When I realized I was sure I'd just have to set up a rack at home and wait for (alllllll of) my sheets and towels to dry, but she was super sweet about it and her and (her son?) just cleaned out the lint and things and let me use the last dryer to get it done. I felt really bad about delaying them but they were lovely, and it worked out well. (I was out before they reached the dryer.) On normal days - wonderfully clean, fast, next to the good food emporium, and always helpful and ready to give change. I really like my trips there, it's a lovely time-out and the neighbourhood all seems to come there. read more

In my experience with laundry matts, this one come out on top. Bill, the owner, is the man. He is very helpful at figuring out just how to make the laundry wash and dry just right. His Wife, Maria, is not around as much when I come in, but when she is, she is great. The place is keep clean and the machines are cleaned after every wash. I only went once to the Bluenose Laundromat to drop off my laundry and asked how much it is a load and the woman there who I believe was named Maria, was very abrasive in her manner of professional communication with a customer. The charge per load I was told was $10.00 per load. I was given a claim ticket and was told I needed to have it when I came back to pick up the laundry I dropped off. Maria was talking with a man when I came to get my laundry. I asked if I could get my laundry Maria asked if I had my claim ticket, which I gave to her. Next thing you know she is raising her voice loud enough to announce to everyone in the laundromat (very disrespectful manner) that I had 3 loads and she did not return to me the laundry detergent or dryer sheets which I left with her, to use while doing my laundry. So much for client appreciation and confidentiality being respected by the Bluenose staff member(s). In my opinion, the professional conduct and communication skills are very much lacking and needs to be greatly improved, No client(s) whether new or repeated should ever have to endure such an abrasive/abusive tone by any staff member(s). read more

This is the first time I've ever written an online review, but I just want to warn all Bluenose laundromat users that the middle aged blond woman working there is batshit crazy. She was nattering on about some other customer the whole time I loaded up my 3 washing machines. One of my machines didn't sound like it was filling and when I asked her about it she got really angry and defensive. When I returned and found out that the same machine didn't fill up and wash the clothes after all, I asked her what I should do and again she was angry and defensive, accusing me of blaming her etc. Anyway, I took my first 2 loads out to the car, and when I came back in I could overhear her nattering away to the man working there about ME! Going on and on and on! Honestly, if you go, don't engage her in any kind of dialogue! She's not nice. read more

Unfortunately, I have only one experience to speak of regarding Bluenose Laundry. My 3 year old son and I were asked to leave this evening after attempting to dry our clean linens, that we brought from home. We purchased a washer 3 years ago, before the birth of our son. We did this out of respect for laundromat patrons and owners, who we felt would prefer not to have our son's soiled cloth diapers mingling with their linens (we now have a newborn). On days when we can't use our patio space for hanging our linens, due to weather, we need a dryer. Bill (owner), watched my son and I come in with a basket of laundry and asked what we were doing...I said."drying our linens", he said, "no". I of course said, "pardon"? (followed by some back in forth between the two of us), Long and short of it, if we wash our cloths at home and only need one of his dryers, "we are not customers". If we pay to use a dryer, does this not make us customers? Anyways, Bill was very rude about it, unfortunately I responded defensively and now I am sitting here with my boys soundly sleeping upstairs, feeling very upset about something I should just let go of, but we don't have any dry sheets for our beds tonight! My boys seem to be doing just fine though, maybe I should think more like a 3 year old!? read more
