A bit over a year ago, I had planned to bring my child to a specific pediatrician in Lexington. Well, my baby was born a month earlier than expected, the day before I planned to visit the pediatrician. While at the hospital, I had to pick an on-call pediatrician from one of two places in Georgetown to come examine the baby. After having a sour experience with the other office, I choose Bluegrass Pediatrics. I met Dr. Knight that evening at Georgetown Hospital and liked him so much that we decided to stick with him at Bluegrass Pediatrics instead of the pediatrician in Lexington that I had originally planned to see. I'm glad we did. Dr. Knight has given us the best care, always listening to us -- even if he didn't agree with us. The staff members at Bluegrass Pediatrics itself are very friendly and polite. They are also quick to get us in for an appointment within the same or next day as needed.... and have a pediatrician available for phone calls when office hours are closed. The office may not be bright and flashy, but don't let that fool you. (They are also a family practice, it's not just for kids -- so your kids can go here for their entire lives!) There is also a separate sick and well area, although you have to walk through the sick area to get to the front desk/doctor anyway. Sadly, we are not currently patients at Bluegrass Pediatrics as of this month because of a change in insurance. It is a bit frustrating (especially as we had a medical need for our child recently), but it is what it is. I'm still thankful for the care my son received here. Highly recommend. read more

I'm going to have to agree with another review. I called ahead about getting immunizations for my daughter and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. We would just have to follow up with a wellness visit. We arrive for the immunizations and the story changes. I have to schedule an appointment that's over two weeks out. Inexcusable! I understand that there are certain protocols, but I can get the same immunizations at the health department or a Little Clinic. I chose to go to our healthcare professionals; not so professional after all. Frankly, I think rather highly of the physicians there, but they need to do something with the administrative staff. The woman that I interacted with showed "zero" empathy or concern. That's not how healthcare should work. I thought that it was a service industry; naive me. Respectfully, Dwayne Sutton read more

I have been using bluegrass pediatrics for a year now and they have always been able to see me quickly, they are polite and knowledgeable, and I'm able to get in and out in a reasonable time frame. They have separate sick and well waiting areas. I believe it to be a clean place, but I will say the whole office could use a coat of paint. Don't let that keep you or your kids from receiving good care here! read more

Our family has been going to Dr. Knight and Dr. Balbaugh with BPIM for over seven years now, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff is so friendly, and anytime we need advice or to be seen, they are there for us. The new facility is fantastic, too. Highly recommend BPIM for the whole family. read more

I went here for my annual physical and the place seemed nice at first but I soon found out that I was fooled. I explained when I made my appointment, checked in and talked with the doctor and staff when I left that my visit was just an annual physical which they all acknowledged and told me there was no charge for until I received a bill in the mail. When I called to talk to them they said that they didn't code it as an annual physical and I would be charged for the visit. Stay away from this office and Dr. Erin Johnson. They are only out to make money and don't care about their patients. There are many other doctors in the area that don't pull this kind of shady business. I will never return to this office and I have been warning others not to make the same mistake that I did. read more

I'm changing doctors ASAP. These ass holes have had my request for a refill on my prescription for 2 days. I didn't even know that I didn't have another refill, which makes no fucking sense why my dumb ass doctor only gives me refills out for 3 months and then I gotta jump thru fucking hoops to get ahold of someone. No one is fucking helpful that works at this bullshit establishment. My medicine is not something that I can just not have for 2 fucking days. It makes me feel like shit and these ass holes don't give a fuck. Fuck doctor ANDREW B (idk how to spell his dumbass name) they'll be lucky if I don't drive the fuck over there and make a fucking scene. I hate these fucking people. read more

They were able to get my daughter in on short notice after she took a hard fall and hit her head (she's a toddler). It was the worst fall she's had and they got her in and x-rayed within an hour! 1 star docked because I have had to wait a couple times in the patient rooms for a long time (15-20 minutes once). Also, I feel like the two doctors I've seen so far at this practice know far, far less about allergies than I do. I have allergies myself; it's a lifelong educational process. My daughter has multiple food allergies. We are seeing a different doctor next week at PAA. The receptionists are totally fine with you asking to see a different doctor, which I like. It's nice that there is a variety of people you can choose for your child's pediatrician.

Now that they are older and should be able to consult their primary care physician on uncomfortable questions they don't want to ask their parents, we find they can't. We were told to "pick a gynecologist" if we were interested in contraception to control period symptoms. Reproductive care IS healthcare, and PAA is not only abdicating this responsibility but putting a barrier between patients and this care by requiring them to go to a specialist that their parents may not have time or money to visit. It makes patients feel like this part of their health and body is "other" and requires special effort and extra money. It's BS. This is especially surprising given PAA's stance on the HPV vaccine (see another user's review here). It's kind of understandable if they do not have the bandwidth for this, but they need to say so up front and start referring kids away from their practice at puberty. It's hard enough being born female in this world; we should ALL be able to depend on our primary care physicians to look out for ALL areas of our health and provide basic support and care before referral to a specialist. I have previous experience in another state where the doctor was all over this--asked all the hard questions and was clearly looking out for my step-daughter's care, head to toe. The only reason that this review is three stars and not one is that we HAVE gotten great care here, so if you have a boy, go for it. Sharon Menkus is particularly good, and we will miss her. She's so genuinely knowledgeable and supportive that I was really puzzled and disappointed by the wall we got when asking about reproductive care.
