Very nice park beach. I searched this out looking for a wheelchair friendly beach near where my friend is staying after his stroke. I easily got him around for the most part. Immediately was approached by 2 tip flight security guards when they seen my puppy wanting to play on the splash pad that was totally empty. Then was told dogs aren't allowed at the beach but bc we were already there they sent us to the corner of the beach where it was full of bird shit and broken glass. If it weren't for the "security guards", the green shirts, this would be a great park. It's pretty, the swimming area is generous, and one can walk to Stepping Stone Falls from the beach. But. The staff are horrible, actively hostile to swimmers. They stand on the shore and scream that "you shouldn't be near the rope!" meaning the roped off swimming area. Um, hello? We swimmers have maybe 1% of the whole of Mott Lake to swim in, and they have nothing better to do than yell at people who are swimming close to--but not beyond--the designated area. If the concern is that someone could drown, the water's over one's head even halfway to the buoy. Plus them standing on the shore screaming won't rescue anyone while a swimmer absolutely could. We found ourselves at Bluebell Beach after driving an hour and finding Huckleberry Railroad unexpectedly closed to film a movie. After all that time in the car we had a restless 2 year old and the park was just what he needed. The park is 4,540 acres, including Richfield Park and 600-acre Mott Lake. There is a nice playground divided into a bigger kid and smaller kid section. We visited in October and were the only ones there. We did see a cool splash park which must be a blast for the kids in the summer. Here is some info I found online about the splash park: Open May 23 ~ September 7, 2009 Free Admission. 12 noon ~ 8 p.m. daily. The only free splash pad in Genesee Count, it is a zero-depth and barrier free surface. The new Splash Pad Spray Ground shoots water in a timed sequence from the ground and from various play structures on the Splash Pad. Just down a slopping grassy hill is a sand beach and clear water. On our visit it was pretty chilly but during the summer I guess you can swim here: Open May 23 ~ September 7, 2009 Free Admission. 8 a.m. ~ 8 p.m. daily. There were pavilions to rent and lots of benches and real bathrooms (not port-o-lets). There appeared to be a concession stand but this was also closed on our visit. Considering all these amenities are free you'd be crazy not to take advantage of them, especially in the summer! read more

I had family in town and needed to find something to entertain a group of 4 children, ages 7-11. I was searching area beaches and found this one close by our house. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the beach area. It is clearly combed on a regular basis. There are ample shaded areas with picnic tables (they go quick though) and a huge play ground and splash pad. The bathroom facilities were nice and there were staff members present to make sure everything stayed up to par. This is a great free, warm summer day activity! read more

Yet another review that's been sitting on my "to do" list, half finished on my computer for ages, it seems. Well, at last, here goes my review of Bluebell Beach. In case you didn't know it, Flint has a beach. Well, now you know if you didn't before. Bluebell Beach and Mott Lake, located near Stepping Stone Falls, is a pretty nice beach area for locals. It has a playground, picnic areas and a splash pad for the kiddos. As a lifelong resident of the area (aside from a few stints living in a couple of surrounding cities and in the South for a bit), I've had the opportunity to hit Bluebell Beach more than a few times. It's had some times when it wasn't quite as nice as it is these days, but the area has been cleaned up quite a bit over the past couple of years. I think the lake and beach area are both beautiful. It's the perfect way to unwind during a hot summer's day. The beach and playground areas are clean and well-maintained and the splash pad is a nice addition, especially for families hoping to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for a few short hours of fun in the sun. It's usually filled with families and sunbathers all summer. It's well-patrolled, like all of the county parks, so there is no problem with crime or littering- at least, not lately. There was a time when it wasn't as nice, but we can just put that in the past and move on. The location is great, near the Mounds (dirt bike trails), historic Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad, the Bluegill Boat Launch and Veterans Park, as well as the aforementioned Stepping Stone Falls, all on the outskirts of town. If you're looking for a nice way to while away your summer weekend, this is a decent place to start. It's quite peaceful and tranquil out this way and it feels a million miles away from the city. I like it. It's clean and a fun, cheap way to spend the weekend without driving a long way for a place to enjoy the sun and beach. A definite must for lovers of nature and tranquility. read more

Was disappointed with the staff. Every year my children play in the splash pad. Even my special needs ten year old was told no and that it's always been that way. Nope. Last summer my kids played there ALL summer. When we left there was even bigger kids in there. read more

My experience at this particular beach was a nightmare. My four year old son was pick up and literally flung on to the cement floor of the water park by an eight to nine year old boy. His nose was gushing blood. and the skin was scraped off his nose. The boy was also responsible for pushing several kids off the play set, But worst of all was the security guards. They just sat there smiling and laughing at the whole thing. I don't thing I will ever set foot in that park again. P.S. I gave it one star because they wouldn't let me post it with out a star. read more
