You don't even notice you're in flint township near the busiest retail corridor in town along Linden Rd. I've gone hiking and walking through here and I want to get in my bike and ride around here, too, now that warmer temps are here! It's never too crowded nor too desolate. The park seems well-maintained, clean, quiet private and is safe as it's patrolled by the cops from the nearby flint township police station, which was built on the grounds next door. If there's a problem, the cops couldn't be any nearer.

There's 3500 feet of asphalt trail, a series of shorter wood-chip trails, a pavilion, and several picnic table "stations." The park and trails seem perfect for a morning stroll, pet walk, or roller blading, but would feel rather limited for a serious biker. Parking is in the south lot of the Flint Township Police Station.

Unfortunately, it's fallen on some hard times over the years and has been open for events intermittently over the last few years. There is hope, however, for this beautiful old landmark to shine once again. There are plans for reinvestment into the Capitol Theatre, although over the years, there have been numerous stalled attempts at redevelopment and renewal. It's still gorgeous and the interior, while fading a little bit each passing year, still shows what this Art Deco era theatre was like back in its heyday. The Will Ferrell fllm, "Semi-Pro," was shot on location here about a decade ago. I have fond memories of going to a few concerts here before it closed when I was in high school. It was in a state of decline then, but it was still something to be seen. Shortly before it closed, there were attempts at improvements and renovations, and the Captiol Cafe (a cute little coffee shop) was open late nights upstairs, past the winding, spiral staircase. We used to hang out up there after shows on the weekend back when I was still in high school. Sadly missed. Any longtime Flint native should have some memories of the Captiol Theatre at some point.

The trail has markers every 1/4 mile which is great way to track your distance traveled and perhaps to encourage you to go just a little further or even motivate you to try to complete a full loop (20+ miles)! Each of the adjoining cities have parking areas at the trailheads. Parking in Columbiaville is off of Water Street between the Columbiaville Branch Library and Curley's Lakehouse Grill. The trailway in Otter Lake is close to the midpoint and also the high elevation point of the path. This is also the location of the Otter Lake Recreational Area Skate Park. Nice baseball centric park located in Springfield Township. At the heart of the complex are four…read morewell maintained ball diamonds. The outfield grass is thick and cut to proper length unlike the rock pit I played on when I was a kid growing up in Flint. Infield is nicely groomed and being well maintained where you can tell it is being dragged on a regular basis. The one negative though is that it appears to be a crushed stone field versus dirt. This is OK for the young kids but I can see it being a bit more problematic with older teens where hard hit line shots can leave you being a bit gun shy about bad bounces when it hits one of the small stones. A bit of personal preference here on my part where a well maintained dirt infield or a combination of groomed grass/dirt would definately be better. Last thing to note about the fields are that the player benches are located outside of the diamond behind the fence. The positive is the kids are protected by line drives but the negative is there is no separation between the players and their parents allowing them to co-mingle with the players which is a definite distraction during the game and a little bit of an annoyance to the coaches. Aside from the ball diamonds there would also appear to be a concession building with bathrooms which is a big positive. The concession building was not open during my grandsons game and not sure if this is normal or a result of the Covid virus safety pre-cautions. In any event definately better than many of the parks that are lacking this type of infra-structure. Overall a nice facility where it actually makes you feel good when you see some of the better things that our tax dollars are paying for relative to family/community activities. Facilities like this were not available where I grew up and I am very pleased as both a tax payer and long time Oakland county resident to see Oakland county incorporate this into their annual budgets. Nice job Oakland/Springfield!
