We were moving out of state and did not need/want any of our collection of furniture, kitchen supplies, or our wood shop. He was very knowledgeable, considerate, and we signed a contract to have him do the sale at the end of February 2026. He said because I was a 100% disabled vet, he would give us his best deal. Right. The sale went great, the cleanup was a bit messy, but it got done. Then, nothing, no contact, no money, and there was a car sold in the sale. We tried calling and texting, but nothing. We contacted the BBB, and they tried to contact him. Nothing. Our loss, maybe your gain. Do not consider his organization for your estate sale. He owes us thousands of dollars and has not had the courtesy to even send us a note. The next step is going to the Hanover Sheriff's Department and swear out a Fraud by Deception complaint against his organization. You have been forewarned; by avoiding him, you will win.

He told us he would have a proposal, with a setup fee to us within a day. That was the last we saw or heard from him. We text him and called him several times and left messages on his voicemail. We found a number for his answering service and asked the woman to have him call us. He never did. We are thoroughly disappointed with this man who claims to be a retired US Marine. We are retired Navy veterans and selected this company because it is veteran owned. We suspect we were too small a profit margin, or more of a project (waste removal) than he wanted to take on. Either way, be professional and return our calls. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

For a buyer, they are a GREAT resource for furniture, vintage items, collectibles, etc. I've purchased some amazing things from solid wood, handmade Clore furniture, vintage cast iron (very collectible) cast iron pans to antique Persian area rugs, craft items, etc. If you know what you're looking for and are knowledgeable about the value of the items you're interested in, Dixon's is a wonderful experience! Even if you're not an expert and you bid on something that you like, you won't be disappointed. As for the people, I find them extremely helpful and easy to work with. Ed, Billy, Bruce and Ian are great!. Now that they have opened their location at Virginia Center Commons, the previews for their weekly in-house online auctions are even better. One thing that also sets Dixon's apart from some of the other auction houses is that they have staff available who will help carry and load items. For sellers, any kind of auction can be difficult emotionally. As someone who has "cleaned out" my elderly parent's home, the things that we/our parents value don't carry that same value for others. Consequently, you can't expect the "antique" desk that your mother treasured to be purchased for big $$. If it's that valuable to your family, KEEP IT! Or at the very least, establish an auction minimum for the item. That being said, I have regularly seen truly valuable antiques and fine, handcrafted furniture bring high prices at a Dixon auction. Collectors/folks who appreciate those items regularly preview their auctions so if your item is a standout , it will be noticed by the experts.
