I highly recommend Blue South and I don't do a lot of reviews. We had an early dinner and I can't remember the last time I had fish cooked and seasoned so perfectly. I mean PERFECTION. I had the whiting and it was amazing. I would go back and order just a plateful of fish if I could. But rest assured everything else was good too-- cornbread, greens, fries. The owner was attentive and kind. It was our server's first night and boy was he nervous. But he didn't have to be, because we are harmless (mostly) and he did a fabulous job! Shout out to that young man. There was also an amazing young singer who entertained us while we ate. I am so glad to see a place like this in Lansdowne. This place has a lot of heart. It's professional but homely and the food is respectable. I have only had a few TooGoodToGo experiences so far- so I can't speak to restaurant experience except for what I have observed. Friendly staff who really care about their customers and all the different logistics. The two TooGoodToGos I have gotten reasonably consider that the app helps with minimizing waste. Some vendors seem to charge more if you purchase from them further ahead of time but Blue South considers price point- they match up the ID numbers to make sure you get what you paid for, and they offer a reasonable amount for what you Get. The first offer I got was cheaper and I was like this is okay. The quality is fine, nothing sticks out for me, and quantity is okay. I believe the first platter for me was chicken and greens only. I decided to try the higher priced item when it was available and I like that fuller offering. It's good advertising for them. The last time I went in there, even though I didn't see the customers, I could tell they were having a happy Friday evening birthday. I am sad to hear about the 30k contract issue. Running a restaurant especially now is difficult. Lansdowne downtown has been having a hard time, but I see the theater across the street is back up and this place seems to capture something that I think the community is looking for. Does Blue South have some kind of deal with the theater across the street such as if you buy a ticket you get a free appetizer or something like this? If the theater does jazz performers, Blue South could be nice for a VIP type session maybe before or after the main performance if possible. read more

I love the food. The service is great and the ambience is amazing. When you enter there is a small area where you could sit to have morning breakfast, if you're having a quick solo meal or you're waiting for you to go order. The restaurant front and back is extremely clean and the servers are constantly moving to ensure it remains that way. The co-owners are very active and engaging with their customers with a very positive attitude. This is every time I've been there. They have an array of items for dinner, the Burgers are really good along with the chicken and they recently added pork chops, which are delicious. I have tried most of the sides and enjoyed them, i'm on the fence about the potato salad. This is a great neighborhood spot that I believe everyone should give a chance. On the weekend they have live music. It's best to have a reservation to ensure a spot. Would I return? Absolutely and I have! read more

Blue South is truly a local gem! I went for dinner on a Friday night and loved the whole vibe ..... amazing soul food paired with live jazz made it such a great experience. I had the fried whiting with mac and cheese and collard greens, and everything was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and comforting in the best way. I came back again to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday for brunch, and it was just as impressive. The service was top notch ..... attentive, warm, and made the celebration feel really special. The food did not disappoint either. The grits were the star of the show ..... absolutely delicious! We also had the fried fish, chicken and waffles, and home fries, and everything was on point. I was highly disappointed tonight! I made a reservation about a week ago for three at 8pm, just to be told when we got there reservations weren't being honored because of their negligence. They attempted to offer us a table near the entrance where they do takeout, not the dining room that I booked. No apology it was just like oh well. Our first time dining at Blue South was disappointing. We arrived on a Friday evening, shortly after opening, and we were greeted immediately. Asked if we had reservations, we did not, and were informed that the restaurant was booked in the dining room, but we could sit in the front. Although the front area was roomy, the tables were too close together. Onto the food. The menu is limited and I decided on the BBQ Ribs platter and my friend selected the Fried Whiting platter. Both platters were disappointing. My "BBQ" ribs tasted like they were prepared in a crock pot or boiled on top of the stove, then a sauce stirred in the pot. They were very tender, but that's the best I can offer; they certainly weren't BBQ'd. The taste was not appealing either. The side dishes were just ordinary. I'm very disappointed in the food and I waited several days before writing this review so I could try to find a way to be fair, but honest. I hope this restaurant will improve quickly, otherwise I don't know how they will survive. My friend didn't like her food as well and left her own review. read more

Love, trying all the new places in Lansdowne. I don't know too much about "southern" food, but this was pretty delicious. Our table of six all had different things - fried chicken, whiting, ribs, wings and two people had one deluxe burger, and one regular burger. All the sides were very, very tasty. Our favorite things were the sides. Collard greens, mac & cheese, fries, all very good. Everyone really liked their meals. Only thing I'm taking a star away for is the burgers. The burgers were not good. The meat was so so thin, like a McDonald's single burger. It had a lot of bread, but no sauce very little cheese and just not enough burger. The deluxe was the three patties, but I had to take off one of my patties to give it to the single patty burger. They just definitely needed some moisture. Some sauces. And much more beef especially considering the prices were 25 and $20. The other attraction was we did order the cornbread as a little appetizer but it was $12 for about $.15 of cornbread. It did have some honey and a chipotle sauce. But to be honest, this kind of thing should be maybe free and give them to the table - definitely not $12. Also, we got seated at 5 o'clock because we wanted to talk to each other, and we saw that on the weekend music starts at six. And that's really awesome. They provide live music if that's what you want - but we didn't. However, the music started shortly after five. When I asked the waitress about this, she just said she didn't know -that they always started at five. Luckily it was kind of background music and not super loud, I just hate it when things are poorly or wrongly advertised. I would definitely try this place again, great atmosphere pretty decent service and love love love that it's a BYOB. The food was slightly better a few doors down at the backstage bar and Grill - they have amazing burgers. But it's very loud in there. The ambience is not as cute and it's not a BYOB. Yesterday, my friends and I had the chance to visit Blue South for brunch. We had an amazing time. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the vibes were immaculate. First of all... Yum! My mom and I stopped by Blue South today for lunch. I was a little apprehensive because the prices were a little bit higher but honestly not terrible. I ordered the fish and grits and my mom ordered the chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious. The chicken and waffles could have had more chicken(3 wing dings). They could've done 2 or 3 whole wings. The ambiance was great I loved the music and hear that there is live music some nights! We had the pleasure of meeting the chef and owner Jacob! He was lovely. Caught a local TV feature on Blue South and finally stopped by--glad I did! Parking was easy, and Luis greeted me warmly while Jacob worked behind the counter. Luis's menu tips made choosing tough, but I went with the chopped turkey hoagie--delicious and filling. The space is stunning, especially knowing Jacob and Luis handled the renovation themselves after an unfortunate situation with a contractor. It's modern, inviting, and clearly crafted with care. The food was very good and the atmosphere of the restaurant itself was fine. The server seemed to have trouble entering orders into her electronic ordering device without us repeating everything at least three times. But the main reason I gave it only three stars was that a band was playing EXTREMELY loud, so loud that we could not hear each other talk. I was there with friends I hadn't seen for a while and we wanted to catch up. It's a small space and the band was right next to the tables. I also have tinnitus and had to wear my earplugs all through dinner so as not to damage my ears further. I asked the manager to ask the band to lower the volume and they did a little bit but then brought it right back up again. I even motioned to the lead singer that it was too loud. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights and I will never go back on one of those nights, it was so uncomfortable. There's no reason for a band to play music that loud in a small restaurant. It's not a concert, it's supposed to be background music and you should be able to hear each other talk. There were even children in the restaurant and I feel sorry for their delicate ears. The manager should be able to control the volume at which the band plays - he's paying them. read more

We tried Blue South based on a friend's recommendation. The place was nice with clean bathrooms and live music. Service was quick at first, but our main dishes took over an hour and a half, which was stressful since we had tickets to see a show across the street. The beef ribs were tender, but my pork ribs were tough and hard to cut. Some sides were disappointing, and there was no ice bucket for our BYOB drinks that needed to be chilled. The first time I went I told them I was coming back and I went back within a week. Both times I wish I had thought to take a picture but once my food came I could no way wait to eat!!! Definitely 10 out of 10. I went with my mother and my cousin for Mother's Day and when I tell you from the moment you walk into the door, you are greeted so beautifully by the host. And following the ambience so beautifully articulated. They had a live band which played a variety of songs, including gospel, which I absolutely love! Off the menu since it was our first time we did order a burger, which I will include pictures. And my cousin ordered the grid and oxtail and when I tell you, that was my very first time, trying the grits and oxtail I would definitely come again to try it for myself to have a personal plate lol but the flavor was impeccable.
