I had been wanting to do a kitchen remodel for quite some time. I was talking about this with a friend of mine, who mentioned that he had just had a master bath remodel completed by Blue Sky Services for his wife as an anniversary present, and that he (and more importantly, his wife) was thrilled with the results. I asked if I could check out the work, and he was more than happy to show it off. I must say that while I was extremely impressed with the result, I was worried that a kitchen that turned out anything as beautiful as his bathroom would cost more than I was willing to spend. I had never priced a bathroom remodel before, but the amount he spent seemed surprisingly reasonable. As fate would have it, on my way home from his house I passed a billboard for Blue Sky Services. I wondered how long it had been up, since I drove this route every day for years without noticing it. Anyway, I figured that this coincidence was enough to get me to give them a call, especially since they give free estimates.
I called and set up an appointment with an estimator (Eric). What a great first impression! He not only showed up on time, but really seemed to know his stuff. I told him my ideas, he hit me back with some of his own, and after a while we had a pretty solid plan. Eric not only answered all of my questions, but asked me questions about things I hadn't yet considered. I had told him at the beginning that, while I wanted a beautiful result, price was still an issue (I imagine it's the same for more of us). What really impressed me was that when we got down to actually putting the kitchen plan together, he had a range of 2-3 options for each item, and was able to give pros and cons about each. After going through the list, I had a good feeling about where I should not skimp, and where I could spend considerably less and still get a good "bang for my buck." I made my initial specific choices, and the two of us went through the kitchen as a whole to see how everything fit together. We changed a couple things in the interest of continuity and flow (which, as it turned out, actually lowered the cost - yay!), and we had The Plan. Though my intent was for this to be nothing more than just an estimate, I had such a good feeling about the way things went, that I was on board and ready to roll! They say that a company is only as good as its employees, and if Eric was any indication, I was looking forward to a great experience with Blue Sky Services.
The actual work went even smoother than I had hoped. I had remodels done twice before (California and Colorado), and although it was years ago, both experiences had left me unimpressed at best, frustrated and angry at worst. This crew actually showed up on time every day, worked hard, and most importantly, showed skill and great attention to detail. During my previous experiences, I would point out "minor" mistakes or imperfections, and I would get answers like "Oh, nobody will notice it." Yeah? Well, I just noticed it, and I'm the one paying for it! Sheesh... Anyway, I didn't have to point anything out this time, because they either A) Did it right the first time, or B) Fixed it before I had a chance to inspect it. Seems like a common sense approach to building something, but this is only true when you have pride in your work, and you're not just trying to slap something together and get to your next job.
I've been typing too long, so I will wrap up. The crew finished a day early and ON BUDGET (woo-hoo)! The bottom line is that, regardless of my always-high expectations, the remodel turned out even better than I had hoped. After enjoying my kitchen for a couple weeks, I decided to call Eric again to discuss plans for a wall-to-wall entertainment center for my living room, and the possibility of adding a screened-in back porch/deck. I experienced the same amount of happiness with these projects, and the same amount of enjoyment with the results. I feel bad that I didn't take the time to write this review immediately after the work was completed, but I guess it's better late than never. I think I'll be ready for a master bath upgrade of my own this spring, so I hope Eric is still at Blue Sky Services! read more
