We've been stopping into Blue Provence since we bought a place in Palm Beach four years ago, and it's a regular drive-by after we hit Saturday's West Palm Greenmarket or are just in town doing an errand. Blue Provence is owned by a Frenchman named Harry who runs the store from late Summer to early Spring, then heads back to his native land to relax and recharge. When he's in town, Harry slaves away in the kitchen, producing a broad selection of soups, quiches, dinner items, and desserts. At Blue Provence, you will find a tantalizing selection of delicious and non-traditional homemade soups. I mentioned three above, but asparagus, tomato basil, ratatouille and others hit the refridgerator shelf as well. Never all of them on one day, but often at least once a week. Beyond that, I CRAVE the homemade lasagna, which is made with fresh dough, and perfectly balanced between cheese, sauce and meat (he also makes a vegetarian version, but I am a carnivore). We've tried his desserts (chocolate mousse and a vanilla-forward rice pudding-like creation), which are delicious, but rich. The pastry window has a broad selection of offerings (my favorite being a massive raspberry linzer cookie). With this, we're just scratching the surface of what's available. There's a range of sandwiches available, made on the spot. It's also a specialty foods boutique that carries nuts, jams, cheeses, and so forth, plus kitchen and home-related non-edible wares. I'd call the experience a bit of a treasure hunt, emphasis on the word treasure. Not cheap, but you really can't beat the quality of food he's preparing, and in some cases, I can't even think of where we'd go to find a substitute. Even if you're just in town for a few days, this shop is worth a stop. read more

What a magnificent store filled with French delights and wonderful home goods. This store is so charming. We popped in here upon arrival to a day of shopping in Palm Beach and I loved exploring all the treats it had to offer. There is a wide selection of French cheeses, butters, snacks and desserts that will make hosting any party a breeze. They also have wine. If you're looking to grab a coffee or pastry, they've got you covered, too. I know it's legit because they had salt from Guérande which is a town I got to visit in France known for their salt. I really felt like I stepped into France the moment I walked into the door. Magical indeed. I also noticed they have sandwiches so if you're looking to grab a bite this is a charming spot. Absolutely loved Blue Provence and would be there every weekend if I lived in Palm beach. The service is so friendly and their home goods are so unique and beautiful. Food = Purchased 2 pastries. A cinnamon twist & a traditional raisin and golden raisin scone. Nice crust. Good scone crumb. Both were delicious with a cup of hot coffee when we got home. Value = Maybe $10-$12 for the two pastries. Seems like the average price these days at finer bakeries. Worth it. Service = Both the cashier and who seemed like the manager or owner was very friendly and engaging, and offered help. She was very accommodating when I circled back to asked her questions about their beautiful silkscreen table cloths. Out of our price range, but gorgeous! Just gorgeous! Beautiful craftswomanship. Ambience = Was I just transported to France? The aroma from their baked goods when you first walk in is comforting and inviting! Where's the croissants?! A narrow, yet chockfull French shop. Beautiful merchandised. Everything from fresh pastries and sandwiches, imported packaged food, wines and champagne, and morels to fancy chocolates. Everything felt special and unique. Many great gifts ideas. Just little fancy gems, sweet treats and savory delectables in every corner. You can't help be in the good mood when you leave Blue Provence! Prices are a little hefty for this non-Palm Beachers. But sometimes in life you have to treat yourself to a croissant and cappuccino! You deserve it! read more

I'm on the island often and wanted to check this place out. It is a cute place to visit. Everything is French european. They have everything from caviar to chocolate and anything in between. They have Fresh Sandwiches. There is no menu. So you just go there and you ask them what's on the menu and they will make it for you. I did get the prosciutto with Apple & and Brie baguette and a cappuccino. Together for the sandwich and the cappuccino, it was $32. I could have asked for the prices, but the menu is not printed, and I just did not ask. Had I known the price of the baguette, I may have changed my mind. Nonetheless, it was a good sandwich. The cappuccino was priced accordingly, which was just under $6 for a 16 oz, I believe. There is street parking alongside South County if you can find parking during the season. They do have a big selection of in-house fresh baked pastries. They have an assortment of Honeys and jams along with fabric napkins and anything you may need for a tea party. read more

This place is magical. Very magical. I loved the croque monsieur croissant sandwich that I ordered, as well as perusing through the store that had a nice selection of cheeses, wines, and, to my joy, duck foie gras mousse (well, one selection of the latter -- but I was stoked and purchased a container). The staff are very friendly and polite as I took my time looking around, seeing what they had for baked goods within the glass-enclosed display. Blue Provence brings a small piece of the French countryside to Palm Beach. My only wish is for it to have been larger. Bought an authentic Sabatier 14" kitchen knife, baguettes, pastries and a smorgasbord of smelly soft cheeses. I asked for the nice gentleman's name but there was way too much French coming out of his mouth for my Floridian ears to grasp. My fault not his. I would have stayed longer to learn his name but that lesson was in the way of my enjoying the full bag of baked goods I was yearning to devour. There's always next time; as in the very next morning that Blue Provence opens. Note to shop: it isn't too much effort to brew and chill some coffee. Note to self, c'est la vie... read more

This place is very cute and has lots of little gifts, trinkets, and snacks that are so wonderful and delicious! I give it two stars because of the prices (charged $17 for a ham and cheese croissant, although not everything is as overpriced as that croissant was) and the apparent unfriendliness of the staff. The person at the register was not mean per se, just rude, cold, unfriendly, and seemed like they didn't want anyone really hanging out and having a good time enjoying the store. Unfortunate that the vibes given off by the staff are so bad, because other than that this is a very cute spot! read more

I have been shopping here forever. We bought a full set of Gien China in the simple Pont Aux Choux pattern back in 2005 (I think). Still use it daily. Food is divine, not found anywhere else trust me I have looked. Pricey? yes, but you will really enjoy whatever you purchase. I rarely ever leave bad reviews, but this place warrants it. Someone in my party did not like their item from the bakery (and thought it was stale), so I went back to buy something else. The extremely rude owner refused to sell anything else because he could not handle that someone did not like his pastry (not even me, though that didn't stop him from yelling at me). I'd been craving cheese, and stumbled upon this place. They cut us delicious pieces of Comte and another kind I can't remember. With a baguette it was a perfect snack. They also had delicious looking sweets which we didn't try. I'd give it four stars if the people weren't so snotty - they were the rude French stereotype. But their wares are also authentic. C'est dommage! This shop has wonderful merch but their customer service is appalling. Here's the scenario... Bought a table cloth & candle sticks which they agreed to ship because the cloth was on back order plus I was travelling (told them to toss in the candles in the shipment, too). They took my credit card, billed me for the merch which came to over $150 but never sent the cloth or the candles despite several phone calls (4-5 all totaled) where they promised to take care of it. They also promised to have the manager call me back but he/she never did. Finally, we arrived at a decision to cancel the order & the sales clerk promised to credit my card asap (this decision was made after she said she had sent out the merch UPS, then was unable to locate the paperwork which included the tracking number). It has been almost two months since all this occurred & it is still not resolved! I own my own business- a bookstore and gift shop in Granville, Ohio-- and I cannot believe an Indy business would behave this way & be so arrogant and dishonest. I never run a customer's card until I send out the merch & if a particular item is on back order, I NEVER charge a customer until the merch is in stock & on its way to the customer! Jo G read more
