I've been going to blue pooch on sawtelle for a really long time and about two weeks ago I accidentally made an appointment on Centinela. I was running late to get the Centinela location and I was really stressed because I have a 16 year old dog who is blind in one eye and also has a lot of random bumps. So I was concerned about not getting the same level of attention and care. The front desk receptionist was really understanding if I did want to cancel even though I'd still have to pay the fee but was reassuring that I shouldn't have to worry since they are all handled under the same owner. Her demeanor about the situation made me trust her word. I had Laura as my groomer and she met Shawni with a lot of patience and kindness. I wish I had taken a picture but she did not disappoint with the haircut, dematting and bath. I've had Shawni since I was a teenager so sometimes I feel anxious giving her away to new people especially since she is getting older now. I would recommend Laura from Centinela to anyone. Both locations have treated me well as a customer but especially this location for handling my anxiety - as I know that can be overwhelming as a first impression. I have a standard poodle who had a couple recently healed hotspots and needed to get in for a groom ASAP. Blue pooch took my appointment and the day before called to say the groomer was sick and they offered appointment replacements that don't work for my schedule. I asked if there was any way to get him in if they just shaved him down, no poodle cut. They said yes. My partner took him in and said multiple times that they can just shave him down. I picked him up FIVE HOURS later (poor guy!) after they kept delaying pick up and made me wait in my car for 40 minutes. When I got in, the dog has a shaved body down to his feet and a full head of poodle hair and full tail. He looked like a naked astronaut with a helmet of hair and no body hair. I said I thought we were shaving him down. They replied well your partner said poodle face and poodle feet so we did a cut. Poodle face and poodle feet mean shaved so him asking for that meant what we had all agreed on already - SHAVE HIM DOWN. They charged me the full $280 and quietly offered to shave him then but it would take more time. My dog had been in there for 5 hours and I was in shock so I said no thank you and left. In the car, 2 blocks away, I called them back after thinking it through and said actually I'm so sorry but he looks ridiculous can I bring him back for a full shave and they said NO they are now closed for the day. They asked to take him back in another weekday that doesn't work for my work schedule or next weekend. I asked if they could just give a $70 refund so I could go get it fixed somewhere else and they became rude and hard to talk to. They said they would have to talk to the owner who I then didn't hear from for 3 days. The owners resolution was a $20 refund or they fix it when I have time. My dog looked like a totally weirdo I didn't want to take him to a dog park literally it was that bad. This place is horrible, they have no reasonable customer service. They don't do what you say. They have cancelled past appointments last minute as well. Now I'm out of pocket $320 with them because I tipped even though I hated it. $75 with healthy spot for shaving him down. And frustrated beyond belief at this company and their lack of ability to fix their mistakes. AND my dog was at a groomer for 5 hours while they did something we did not ask for. Seriously they are cruel. 0 stars. Avoid them at all cost. read more

They provide excellent service, and Nick did a great job with the grooming. However, I was very surprised by the final price: $168 (including tip) for a 20-pound dog. Pricing for standard bath and grooming services is not clearly listed online, only à la carte items, which made it difficult to anticipate the total cost. Based on what I saw and on long experience with high-end salons, I expected the price to be closer to $90. When I called to ask for clarification, I was told that I should have asked for pricing in advance. Hmm. While that may be true, I believe clearer upfront pricing or a cost estimate would help avoid confusion. I'm also still not fully aware of which services were included in the final bill. My advice to future customers: if you want to pay more than you're used to, go here. Be sure to ask for a detailed price estimate before booking to avoid surprises. P.S. In case the salon rebuttles this review and says I checked out without paying, the truth is I was so upset when I got there that I forgot to hand them the money I had just taken out at the ATM. I took my small rescue dog here to get a wash and haircut and felt like I got a whole new pup back. The location is inside Centinela Feed & Pet Supplies - you walk in and it's an almost immediate right after the cash registers. Easy to spot. When I walked in they had a lot of adorable pups being groomed and roaming around. I appreciated that all of the dogs seemed really happy and were being treated with a lot of love and kindness from the staff. My dog was nervous going in but didn't seem like she wanted to leave when I came to get her, which is definitely saying something. My only negative was the price was a lot, especially for a smaller dog, but I could tell they're dealing with a lot of purebreds so I'm sure that comes with the territory. They put a lot of effort in to their work though and I've never had my dog feel so soft. Will definitely come again. read more

I was here once prior and came in to a room full of bubbly faces and a bunch of happy dogs. I asked if they could trim my 9 week old pupps nails and the woman did a great job. My dog loved her and stayed quiet throughout. I was so happy I thought to bring him again for his second nail trim. This time it was a male groomer and he was a bit different than the woman who first did it. My pupp was clearly uncomfortable as he kept trying to get out his arms . He yelped twice and I didn't let it phase me but the third one made me worry...I think he was hurting my pupp and not responding correctly , may not have been on purpose but still made me a bit uncomfortable :/ Leaving today my pupp won't let me touch his paws and his nails are alll jagged I don't know if this is supposed to look like this from the tool or how fast he did it or if this was a groomer not being careful. We brought our dog Poppy to Blue Pooch for the first time today after a friend recommended them. Although we've been perfectly satisfied with the haircuts Poppy received from other salons, we wanted to try a different place this time, and we definitely weren't disappointed! Poppy's always cute, but we were amazed at how much more adorable she looked after her grooming. Even though she's still a puppy, other groomers sometimes leave her chin hair a bit too long, making her look like an old man. But not this time! I found Blue Pooch on Instagram where I saw a lot of Arisa's work. From there, I contacted the salon to set up a "consultation". I wanted to talk to Arisa & have her meet my dog so we could set expectations and be on the same page. She was very nice & obliged. On the day of the groom, Arisa did exactly what we talked about for King Loui$. She even dyed his paws and I loved it more than I thought I would. King Loui$ & I already have our next appointment set up. This location seems to operate a little differently than the Pico location. I've been going to the Pico location for 9+ years but decided to give this location a try once I read that they don't crate the dogs. When making your appt, you're able to select the groomer and specify the type of service you need. Both times, I got a random groomer and the additional options I asked for weren't done. This most recent visit was pretty appalling though. I was running a little late for the pick up (unexpected traffic) and received a call that my dog was barking at everyone coming in and jumping on the counter and needed to be crated. Surprised to hear he was acting like this but it was fine if he needed to be crated. When I told the front I was there to pick up my dog, she muttered 'thank god.' I apologized a few times but was just ignored. When she walked over to get my dog, I realized he was standing on the grooming table, tied and unattended. When I think about it now, that was extremely dangerous!! The groomers were working at the other tables but anything could have happened in a split second. She proceeded to unhook him and had him jump off the high table, instead of helping him down. Could really sense that she despised him and wanted him out of there asap. As I was paying, she then made sure to educate me on how I need to plan out my day the next time I have a grooming appt, so that I'm not running late and so my dog doesn't have to be crated. Don't need to be treated this way when spending $240 on a single visit. I also have this gut feeling that my dog was not treated well here today either. He was silent the entire car ride home and has just been sleeping all day. Never experienced anything like this. Will probably stick to the Pico location for my dogs, if at all. read more

I went to blue pooch for the first time today and had a great experience!!! My Maltese was extremely overdue for a haircut, and Wylie made her look so so beautiful I can't stop looking at her!! Her haircut is so perfect and cute I'm obsessed. When I brought her in she was pretty matted in certain spots especially her tail and you can tell she was treated with care and precision. Sometimes after getting groomed she seems uncomfortable or itchy but not today- she's so happy and I think she knows she looks super cute lol. And she smells so good!! The salon itself is immaculate and I love the decor - the whole vibe is chill. All the dogs in there look relaxed and happy. Also booking and payment was so easy through my phone, loved it. I have been getting my black Schnauzer Lola's hair cut here for over a year. They are definitely a bit on the higher side of pricing but their work is on a whole other level. Recently Nick was her groomer and I couldn't have been more pleased with his work, she looked amazing, I highly recommend him. I also like the fact that the dogs are allowed to run around when not on the table instead of being put in a kennel and most of the work is done with scissors as opposed to electric shears. When I am out and about I can now spot dogs that get groomed at Blue Pooch just by looking at them.....they are a "cut" above! Thanks Nick!! read more

I came here for my pups first grooming and at first I thought everything was great. The staff was super friendly, extremely competent and his cut looked amazing. He was also very clean. However, I had read some other reviews that sometimes they forget to trim the 'dewclaw'. So when I was picking him up I checked and it didn't feel like they had trimmed it and so I asked them too. The groomer I worked with then called over another groomer who essentially gripped my puppy really hard (my pup was thrashing, whining and biting trying to get away) and she proceeded to cut his nail anyway. It was over pretty quickly but I assume that's how they got through the whole appointment because now my pup won't let anyone touch his face and I've had to completely restart sensitivity training for certain areas of his body. read more

I usually take my dog to the other Blue Pooch location on Pico, but we recently moved and this location is closer. The dogs are free to roam around among the dogs getting groomed while they wait to get groomed, which I guess is fine as my dog doesn't like to be kenneled. As I was walking back to my car after I dropped my dog off a bit early for his appointment, I see this other dog sprinting out of the store straight towards the busy street (Centinela) and there was an employee running behind him. Obviously this is horrifying. Once she grabbed him, I asked her how that happened, and she kind of nonchalantly said that a lot of people were checking in at the same time, and someone left the door open. I stayed outside for a second stunned at her reaction and decided to go back in and ask them to just hold him in a kennel until his appointment time came up (in two hours from then). I said I was requesting that because of what I had just witnessed. There were about six employees in the room, and everyone was just as nonchalant as the first lady and borderline looked at me like I was overreacting. It was then that I decided that I wasn't leaving him there. I left and called the Pico location to make an appointment there. Pico is great, I would avoid this location. I wouldn't have written a review about this experience had their reaction been different. I understand accidents happen, and I don't want to put anyone on blast. But their reactions were shockingly flippant given that they have two jobs - groom dogs and keep them safe. They didn't do 50% of their job, and I think that warranted a very different response to my concerns. read more

RUDE! Vindictive! It was a last minute appointment because my dog is shooting a commercial tomorrow and the production just contacted me insisting she be groomed first. So, I called Blue Pooch to arrange an appointment for my collie today. I explained the size of the dog and the breed. I was told they had time later today. I was transferred to the receptionist who told me they needed vax certification before booking. Never heard that before, so I questioned it, but ok, I get it. I said I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it in time. I reached out to my vet's office and they agreed to email me a certificate. When I called Blue Pooch right back, the same receptionist put me on a 6 minute hold. She finally came to the phone and told me they suddenly "didn't have time for your dog today because of her size," saying the first person I spoke to was "mistaken." I told her, "I told YOU the size and breed 10 minutes ago!" She was clearly annoyed that I initially questioned the vax certificate rule. She was dismissive and complacent and obviously didn't care about receiving my business. The groomers are great, but their front desk leaves much to be desired. You're better off taking your dog elsewhere. read more

Fair warning - once you come here you will not want to go any place else. My Pomeranian got her haircut by Arisa and I've gotten so many compliments on my dog and how cute she looks. When i picked her up, they put two little yellow poms on her head and i loved it. Her coat was cut nice and even all around, and one of new best haircuts my dog has gotten. I've gone to other places who cut the opposite of what i asked, or left her front mane uneven. But not here. It's a serious treat when you find a good groomer. read more
