I don't understand what people are moaning about, We phoned…read moreand booked at 45 minutes notice, drove there, could do with a little bit better signs at car park entrance but nothing major, It was late evening on a Friday, weather had been a bit blustery so windows were salty, but we still had a nice table with a reasonable view. Staff were a tiny bit slow to acknowledge our arrival, mainly due to paying at a till rather than the table - and another customer asking endless questions, but again nothing that can't be sorted. We ordered drinks and were ready to order our food as soon as they arrived from the extensive menu. We had starters which were excellent, but 1 tiny criticism in that the salad dressing was not listed on the menu so one of us didn't eat it, although the staff offered to change it. By the time our plates were cleared from our starter both our main courses were ready, we were served by two waitresses in all and both were very pleasant, we had house wine which was also very good and at the end of the meal it was not ridiculously expensive. If you have a party of four the two tables near the large bay are both the ones to go for, we were in an orangery type construction. The decor is nautical but tasteful, the restuarant is clean and well presented, the bar/pub area a little less so (but it's a pub).. The live music may have been a little intrusive if we'd booked later, but we arrived at 8 and were gone by 9.15 and it hadn't really started so again we don't see why people have moaned. We also saw the rooms which are available, the public areas between the bar and rooms may put a few people off as they are used for storage, but the rooms themselves have stunning views and are basic but very clean and tidy and were 100 pounds per night flat rate when we asked, which is reasonable as it includes breakfast and use of the balcony outside the restaurant etc.. I have stayed in Dubai and eaten in some top restaurants which I have enjoyed less.. I am not someone who can't afford to eat elsewhere and my wife and I found the inn on the shore a welcoming and friendly place, and I feel some people need to relax and lower their expectations a little, as everyone has said the setting is stunning and the food is more than adequate and well presented, we really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely visit again.

I read up on Finnygook and liked their mission statements regarding food and their menu looked appealing. Locally sourced ingredients for classic pub meals that were innovative sounded like a great combination. Upon arrival, we were welcomed to have a pint at the bar. The service staff was hospitable. The ambience was that of familiar warmth of the local pub. We were seated by the window with a lovely view of the water despite it being a dark and rainy afternoon. My Husband ordered the mushroom soup and I ordered the shrimp and crayfish cocktail. The soup was absolutely stunning but my cocktail, though exactly as described did not have any spectacular high notes. Because we made the special trip to dine at Finnygook, we ordered three mains to try out as much as we could. We had the Ribeye with grilled vine tomatoes with an added peppercorn sauce, the fish pie and the lamb shin. Overall the food was prepared sufficiently but there lacked any real distinct flavors from the ingredients or seasoning. The steak though well prepared in doneness would have lacked any flavors without the addition of peppercorn sauce. There was no satisfying juicy meaty flavor, no sunkissed sweetness from the tomatoes that tasted more commercially grown than locally sourced. The crustless fish pie was smothered in a generous layer of potatoes, again with no distinguishing flavors in the filling. The accompanying vegetable medley tasted like it was boiled in plain water then drained for service. The lamb shin was the most disappointing. The lamb shin appeared quite majestically on the plate again with a side of indistinguishable and lackluster vegetable pile. The meat fell off the bone beautifully but other than the subtle gaminess of the protein, the dish had no flavor. I think the vegetables should have been seasoned to start but preferably roasted instead of boiled until disintegration so that you could identify them. We ordered the sticky toffee pudding and the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake for dessert. The sticky toffee was as expected, sweet and sticky but with a nice mild ginger flavor. The raspberry cheesecake filling was tasty but there were unexpected crunchy white chocolate chips within the filling that ruined the textural experience of each bite. The bottom crust was too thick and quite hard which meant each time you cut into it with your fork, you risk making a terrible sound on the slate plate or chancing that the crust will go flying across the room. The blood orange sorbet smelled and tasted soapy and was an odd combination with the cheesecake flanked by two chocolate tuiles. The desert seemed pretentious without a clear direction. In summary, Finnygook lived up to its mission statement of providing classic pub food, perhaps even more as classic stereotypical British foodfare devoid of any real seasoning and flavors. It is important to note that we still enjoyed our meal because the experience of being there was a pleasant one. We most likely will not revisit Finnygook Inn for another meal, not because we live thousands of miles away but because it isn't worth travelling from thousands of miles away again to eat a meal that didn't satisfy the tastebuds. I will insist that for a local pub, it is an amazing place which no doubt many others will enjoy.

It's a small restaurant right in Padstow that does small plates that focus on seafood. To start, their cocktails were great! I wish I could remember the one I got but I added a photo of it. I think it had passion fruit in it. It was so good! My friend's favorite dish was the scallops and mine were the prawns. :) They were giant and so tasty! The oysters were good too and I definitely would order more next time. Being from a landlocked area, it was so cool to hear how fresh this seafood is! Definitely recommend stopping in if you get the chance.

It may sound strange to those with preconceived notions, but the place has the exact vibe of a well-done Burning Man camp, including the sense of being comfortably ensconced in the environment. The constant presence of the benign outdoors--beside the operation's hooped greenhouses--is absolutely perfect for a restaurant that prides itself on fresh, hyper-local produce, fish, and beverages. And what food! The menu is small plates...except for some larger whole-fish options. The strategy is to order 2-3 per person and share. This ensures that you are getting a cascade of delightful flavor combinations that remain surprisingly subtle despite deep character and a broad flavor palate that ranges from the mild creaminess of cannelloni beans and bacon sparkles under a small slab of baked hake, to a scallop grilled in a soup of Thai green curry. Flavors combine to gently surprise: tree ear mushrooms and fresh dill, candy-sweet cherry tomatoes and tarragon, kale with truffle oil. The combinations are so insightful and unexpected that it's often tricky to identify them, even though the dishes remain clean, simple, and pure. The extreme freshness and site-specificity of the ingredients means that quantities are limited and the dishes on offer are constantly cycling. If you see something that looks good, order quick before it changes to something new! The service is excellent, with a young, skilled and friendly staff both in the front of the house and in the open kitchen; a snafu with our order was quickly and easily resolved. Unsurprisingly, the bar offers local alcohol, including Padstow Brewery's excellent modern and traditional beers/ales, and Tarquin's interesting gins. The POTL team also has a taqueria in Padstow, and apparently the temporary tent will be replaced with a permanent structure next year. I hope they find a way to retain the current feeling of the place, because it's just perfect (even though the season is quite short). Be sure to reserve WELL in advance. Though you have no sense of packed busyness while there, this place books out during the summer season, and it would be a pity to miss out on food that tidily upends Britain traditional reputation for bad cooking.
