They couldn't find a problem with the starter and recommended a new battery. $77 I had the battery checked and was told by the Brunette Battery that the problem wasn't with the battery. I eventually took my vehicle to another repair shop and they discovered the ferrule connector on the ignition signal wire was loose. They replaced the ferrule and the issue disappeared. In December 2025 the starter stopped working. When the new shop checked it out they told me the nut securing the power line from the battery had been cross-threaded and had worked loose causing short circuits. They suggested this was the probable cause for the starter/solenoid failure. While I'm unhappy with the quality of work done on the starter replacement, I feel ripped off on the "diagnosis" service charge as it appears they didn't put the car on the hoist, to check the starter connections, only testing the electrical systems from above, (under the hood).

I said leave it i will take back to Toyota as they had been doing the service until then. upon getting home i found that the truck now had a oil leak, retuned to Mobil1 and asked to complete and let me see the damaged part. once removed and BEFORE returning to me they took the part to the side office and returned it with fresh damage. Then the tech asked me to sign an invoice listing ALL the things he checked, he did not check anything did not open the cabin air filter or engine air box. I took my car for a standard service and to take a look at a warning light. I came away with a totally flat battery (couldnt even start the car in the forecourt and the warning light not dealt with). To top it all they charged me $500 for a $375 retail price Battery. They also charged me 30% more than I was quoted over the phone for my service and couldn't explain it other than to say it was a receptionist who misquoted me. Mike tried to BS me that he had placed a better battery, but his product code which he had cleverly disguised so clients can not cross check the price, aligned exactly with what he had fitted. I called him on it and of course he went silent on me. No responses whatsoever. To miss a flat battery, makes me wonder what else wasn't completed in this car service. When lining up to pay for the car on collection, both clients in front of me were complaining of overcharges against quotes already issued. This seems to be quite a common issue with MIDAS WEST VANCOUVER. This is the last time my family will use MIDAS. We are not idiots MIKE. Don't hide behind your email. When you get called out on your BS, be a businessman, and answer your clients. Try and win them back. All you have done here for the sake of scraping an extra $200 out of me is loose our family custom and raise awareness to anyone reading this very fair and truthful statement NOT TO USE MIDAS WEST VANCOUVER. You failed on every count Mike. PS: Tony is a good guy - he must be embarrassed to work for you.
