During a very hot week in June, 2018, during our Ireland vacation, we headed south to the sea without having pre-booked any location for that evening. About 8pm we called Blue Horizon from the car based on the lovely reviews and checked in at 10:30pm. Our original plan was to keep moving along the south coast staying in different B&Bs, but the ocean view from Blue Horizon was so beautiful, the sea breeze so soothing in the heat attacking the rest of the country, and best of all, our hosts Mary and Jimmy so wonderfully welcoming, we simply decided to stay. Thank God they had openings to allow it.
Having family and friends in the Dublin area, I've been to Ireland countless times. From now on, though, I hope we'll be able to peel ourselves away from family and friends at least a few days on each future trip to come back, decompress, and truly relax. We had wonderful adventures on this June vacation, but the most relaxing and beautiful time was definitely here at the Blue Horizon - we can't wait to go back.
The breakfast included is wonderful - traditional Irish, or fruit and cereals, or scrambled eggs with fresh salmon, just a few of the selections - a perfect way to start each day. For dinner, which is not served at the B&B, we either went into Ballinspittle (less than 10 minutes drive) and picked up bread and cold cuts for a picnic dinner, or we went to the Speckled Door Restaurant (located near the turn to drive out to Old Head).
In between are two of the loveliest beaches, the first just a short walk down the hill from the Blue Horizon. All in all, a truly wonderful place to stay, relax, and knock around on a strikingly beautiful and quiet holiday. Thank you Mary and Jimmy. read more
