I'm so glad we were able to fit some paddle boating in our schedule while in the Bay! Blue Heron Boathouse offers pedal boat & row boat rentals, $32.50/hr pedal boats & $26/hr for row boats. It was definitely more tiring than I thought! Both the row & pedal boats fit 1-4 passengers, super cute group daytime activity at the Blue Heron Lake. There was a bunch of ducks & geese here and they added to the beauty of the lake ! We didn't try any of the food since we decided to hold off & find dinner elsewhere. Highly recommend adding this to your itinerary if you're out in the Bay! They also have some food options available & public restrooms to use, + free parking.

Definitely an experience at about $32/hr for pedal boats. I wasn't trying to row haha but luckily leg day pays off with these boats. We were trucking around the pond and getting close ups of the wildlife; while enjoying the beautiful sunshine and each others company on our couples day out! Not from this state but we did check out things to do in the area and I'm glad we came thru! The parking is pretty easy you just have to keep driving and find a spot on the sides haha. They have food and snacks where you buy your boat tickets! Would do again to relax!

GGP is one of the best places to do pedal boating. The scenery, the greenery, and the weather is all perfect. We did go on a day with a lot of overcast, but the activity does warm you up a bit, so it was good we didn't do it in such sunny weather. For 2 people, we paid $32.50 per person per hour for the pedal boat that could fit 3 adults and 2 children. 1 hour is the perfect amount of time as we finished the first loop in 20 minutes and went around a 2nd time to use up the whole hour. The pedal boat is alot more relaxing compared to the paddle boat as we saw numerous people struggle to maneuver without getting stuck. To purchase tickets, you go to the wooden booth that also serves as a quick food stop, life jackets are optional, you sign a waiver on your phone, and then you show the employee your ticket purchase and they put you on the next available boat.

For $32.50/hr for pedal boat, I'd say it's affordable and a fun hangout with your friends/family. My friends and I spent almost an hour pedaling around while taking a bazillion pictures. Definitely go on a sunny day because the lighting here can be very good in certain areas. Overall, it was a great and fun little exercise, and we made many great memories here.

MADE TO ORDER FOOD STAND Sandwiches such as Ham and Brie (highly recommended). Lots of seating with bench seating available. Fast and friendly workers French fries really good! Thick cut made from real potatoes. Self serve condiments. Relaxing wooden water cabin feeling with a view of the lake. Restrooms across the parking lot. Old looking public restrooms. Free park shuttle in parking lot. Comes every 15 minutes on weekends and 20 minutes on weekdays. Goes up and down the JFK promenade.

Great place to bring family or have fun date night. The staff were great. They do have snack and drinks. They have life vests if you need. Great for small children. Highly recommend this place . Great memories

This is one of my favorite activities to do with my family when I am visiting San Francisco. San Francisco natives will know this area as Stow Lake, but I have just learned that they changed the name to Blue Heron Lake. The boathouse is located midway on the loop around the lake when you come from the main road into the park from Lincon Ave. If you are coming on a weekday then definitely give yourself the luxury of parking closer, on a Saturday or Sunday just park anywhere you find parking first because that can be a challenge. Once you get to the boathouse, you can get your ticket to get on the boats. You have 2 options, and pedal boat or row boat. Both are fun, it just depends who you are with. The pedal boats are our family favorite because the kids love the experience of leading the tour. It's 32.50 for an hour around the lake in a pedal boat, and you can have up to 5 people. They do have rules about #of adults ratio to kids so pay attention to that. The service has always been fantastic. Everyone is very kind and helpful. You can also get drinks and light snacks at the boathouse shop. As well as order food items that you can enjoy before or after your ride inside the Cafe area. The sweet potato fries are delicious. This area is absolutely beautiful. Even just to go and sit on one of the park benches and enjoy some bird watching and taking in the fresh air is worth a visit. Definitely add it your list on your next family outing! It's a wonderful experience.

On Summer stroll inside my favorite place in San Francisco which is Golden Gate Park. I come here often and in many different areas of the park. The Blue Heron Boat House is located in the Stowe Lake area of Golden Gate Park. This is the place I play the role of San Francisco tourist advisor in the dinning hall and on the outside as boats pass by. This is also the spot I be schooling the Tourist about hidden gems to go to in San Francisco. Today I got the chicken wrap. This chicken wrap was better than the typical catered chicken wrap rolls served during lunches or happy hours at conferences and meetings. The chicken was tender and spinach wrap was soft. I got tourist premium priced but you pay for the view. They also sell drinks like Fort Point Animal and other refreshments ( I usually bring my own ). Golden Gate Park is my favorite San Francisco Tourist Trap Enjoy a Summer stroll and try their chicken wrap

If you are hiking through GG park, this is a great place to stop, have a drink and sit a bit. You can also hire a row or paddle boat. There are birds in the lake and some turtles too. In the Spring, Blue Herons next in a tall tree directly across from the boat house. Bring your binoculars.

A check off of my bucket list! Although I am a Bay Area native, there is an abundance of things I haven't done located in my own backyard. I stumbled upon this place by accident. And I'm sure happy I did. The ambiance is incredible. You feel like you are somewhere far far away. You also get some views of the Japanese Tea garden! I really enjoyed the close proximity of the ducks. They were unbothered by the paddle boat and waddled right on by. I am tall! And my child is small, of course. The paddle boats were two sizes (from my observation). One for 'adults' or one for shorter stature people/youth. Of course we needed the smaller length peddles so my son could peddle the boat. Have mercy on my legs!!! They were so crunched up. We would have stayed on the water a little longer if my legs weren't hurting. I would definitely do it again, just in the bigger vessel.

One of the best kept secrets in San Francisco is this little restaurant and paddle boat rental at Blue Heron Lake. The food is absolutely fantastic. Onion Rings, quesadillas, burgers, & sandwiches & beer & wine. One of my favorites.

NOT SAFE!! BEWARE! Everyone, including adults, should be required to wear a life vest and 4 adults should NOT be allowed to get on one pedal boat. We were told that our family of 4 plus our 1 year old could safely get on a 4-person pedal boat. 5 mins into departing the dock, our boat started SINKING so we had to quickly pedal our way back to the dock. Water started pooling at the back of the boat and under one side of the pedals and the water kept rising. Thankfully we weren't too far, otherwise we would have gone down with the boat. None of us were required to wear life vests other than our 1 year old and not everyone in our family knows how to swim. The employees don't care about your safety. We had to ask them how to put the vest on our daughter correctly. They didn't ask us how much we weigh or anything. I later saw signage stating that the boat has a 600 pound weight limit but I looked it up online and most pedal boats have a 400-500 pound weight limit. The staff all seems checked out and when we returned to the dock we were told "something is seriously wrong with this boat." They offered to give us another boat but we opted for a refund instead. It's insane to think that our family could have been in serious danger if we had gone a bit further out from the dock!! Their boats are rundown and they take no safety precautions whatsoever. Be careful out there.

Experience (5/5) Such a fun time!! The sights are beautiful and it's a good way to get some movement in as well. From the ducks to passerby to natural landmarks, there's a lot to see and take in. For the hour you get, it's more than enough time to circle around, and we even made several mini circles before finishing the loop around. Price (5/5) We got the pedal boat and it was ~$30-$40 an hour. A little pricey but more than worth it for the experience. Wait Time (5/5) We came on a weekend afternoon and there was no wait. Ambiance (4/5) We got the pedal boat but there are two types - a colorful green or blue kind where the seats are lower, and a white kind where the seats are higher. Our green pedal boat was pretty uncomfortable on the bottoms because of the position, so next time I would try the white pedal boat where you get to be in a higher seated position. Service (5/5) Employees were nice and friendly. I wish I had brought some cash on me for tip (there's a tip can by the podium where the staff are). Parking/Access (5/5) In Golden Gate Park, pretty accessible.

Ask the Community - Blue Heron Boathouse

Are they renting boats again? Previously even during covid (few months ago) they weren't open still

Yes they absolutely are, see my review! We went on the pedal boats!

Do I need a reservation for rental boat ? How is the rental boathouse working in 2021?

It's first come, first serve, we waited 30 minutes which wasn't bad for a weekend and it was just $30 for one hour for their Pedal Boats! They follow guidelines and social distancing is enforced and all masks are worn!

Are dogs allowed on row boats?

Yes they allow dogs, we saw them on the rowboat when we went A couple weeks ago!

Do you have to rent a boat in advance?

It's first come first serve, we only waited 30 min which isn't bad for a weekend!

Can we bring our own food?

Yes, you can bring your own food. There's like 5 picnic tables in the area, by the boat house.

Which boats would be safe for 2 toddlers. It looks like people need to sit alone in the boats and there's not seatbelts?

They have life-vests for kids. The paddle boat may be best depending on the age of the toddlers.

Is there a picnic area near or around this place?

    Yes

Is there a weight limit for the boats?

Weight limits were not noted anywhere. My husband was 275lbs at the time and no one questioned him or looked twice when we boarded the peddle boat.

I really want to rent a pedal boat with my husband and my son he is only 1 years old, would anyone recommend it being okay for that age?

Hi Jen, Anyone under the age of 13 would need a life jacket. As long as you can fit these… Read more

I cannot say enough about the experience I had on the "San Francisco Bay Sunset Cruise by Luxury…read moreCatamaran" this past Sunday. During a solo getaway last weekend, on a whim and after much research, I landed on this option a day prior, after. I must say, this nailed everything I was seeking. First, let's start with the woman in their office (wish I got her name) who was the sweetest. I called panicked that I may be running late/not at the dock before the 6:30pm cruise (as I got the start time mixed up with another provider I was looking at). She instantly put me at ease, assuring me I'd be fine. When I arrived at Pier 39, not knowing to head towards the DOCK on the LEFT (vs. through the main thoroughfare mobbed with crowds), I panicked again and called once more...but hung up as soon as I spotted the door to the dock. Later, found out later this wonderful woman had called back/left me a voicemail just from seeing the missed call, to make sure I was ok! It's customer service like this that really enhances the experience. Same as the crew on board - there I was, out of breath and barely making it on by 6:30pm, greeted by Lisa..just her vibe instantly shifted me into a more relaxed mode. The cruise is quite punctual; we departed very close to 6:30pm...but she never made me feel worse than I was upon arrival. It didn't stop there - on the boat was Michael at the helm, and Devon who was just a delight. For someone who deals with tourists/customers every day, you can still feel genuine joy exude out of him. Both he and Lisa were SO accommodating to the guests - offering to take photos, helping with snacks/drinks in the galley (1 drink comes free with cost of ticket, and there are actual decent choices! And low prices for anything additional you want to consume). Towards the end, he greeted each and every one of us with a basket of assorted chocolates. How can you not smile? The cruise itself was...perfect. Comfortable number of guests allowed all of us to move around at take photos at every angle at leisure. The route and time of cruise was fantastic (in 6 years living in SF I've never seen the Golden Gate Bridge THIS up close; it took my breath away). Seriously, SO many incredible photo ops, especially on a clear day like this last Sunday. Unanticipated chill from the winds and splashing water were helped by jackets for everyone to borrow as needed. Still too chilly? If you decide to take a load off inside, there is plenty of seating by their small bar/eating area, which I found surprisingly relaxing. Again I'm SO so pleased I chose Adventure Cat. I noticed it may be slightly more than other competitors (I paid $99) but rest assured, WELL worth it for the catamaran experience, and one that's not too crowded. But again kudos to the customer service; I really was quite impressed and hope the entire crew sees this, because you helped make this such an unforgettable experience for me.

Boy did we luck out. This was part of a 40th birthday present for my husband and it was absolutely…read morethe stand out, highlight of our day. First off, the people - Lisa, her husband (the captain) and her steward are some of the kindest, most helpful humans you'll ever meet. They are also incredibly professional. The process, from booking to good byes, was incredible simple. Now the yacht itself. Wow. She was definitely one of the bigger yachts on the harbor which had my family incredibly excited. We got a beautiful yacht, Lisa checking in and serving us, add to that pastries, fruits, an open bar, two outdoor tables (in the back and front) of the yacht, an upscale and large cabin, music, a great captain, a SECOND STORY to the boat...I mean..this kind of felt like highway robbery. And we were the robbers (they are incredibly reasonably priced) Since we're in a time of Covid I should also add that I saw them wiping the boat down several times, they were always in masks and Lisa served the food and drinks with gloves and a mask on. It's clear that they are very conscious of their health and the health of their customers. Lisa's mom is 90 and they're doing their best to take the right precautions to keep their family safe. All in all, I cannot wait to go back. I cant wait to bring friends onto this yacht (when it's safe). I couldn't be happier with this decision. Thank you so much Lisa for making a milestone birthday unforgettable!!!

This overdue review is based on my overall experience with planning my birthday with Lisa at Five…read moreStars Yacht. To summarize, I was constantly trying to work around the restrictions that Lisa failed to disclose at the time of contract. And all of this could've been avoided if it was mentioned on the very first day. I just felt blindsided every time she mentioned something new. If you run a business that hosts events, these should be listed in your contract! She was misleading, had poor communication, was unwilling to work with me, and lied. And this event is a couple $$$$. You would think that I would get better service for paying so much. Save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere! I met Lisa in February, through Sailo.com. While I toured the yacht, Lisa explained what I could expect from booking with them. She said I could decorate the boat however I wanted. She mentioned there were tablecloths in a variety of colors to match any theme. I mentioned I wanted pink tablecloths, and she said she had some light pink shades. She showed me upstairs and said they had tablecloths for the smaller tables as well. I mentioned I would want to decorate upstairs. I asked her if I could bring food onboard, which was okay. We went over bar service, music, and set up. She mentioned the yacht was available to set up in the morning before my event time. Now everything to me sounded great, but little did I know, a lot of what she mentioned was complete BS. I reviewed the contract in March, ready to book with her. The contract had the general cost information. I had questions about bar service, but since the company seemed very accommodating, I didn't have any other questions. Fast forward to July, my event was set for the end of the month. I was already ordering decor. Once I started emailing her details about how I wanted to decorate, many things were not approved. There were restrictions that were not disclosed at the time of contract. For example, no balloons outside, no tape on any surface;only string or ribbon. That is a huge detail you should mention early on, especially when it was clear that I wanted to decorate. After going through multiple options, I had to search for plan b, and just rented marquee numbers, since it was freestanding decor. And even she had some hesitations about that. Then, I asked her multiple times for photos of the pink tablecloths she had mentioned. 2 weeks before the party, she told me she "couldn't find them," and only had white or neutral. Clearly she did not have a variety of tablecloths. I don't even think the pink tablecloths existed. So I told her I would like the white tablecloths for the party. The next issue was food. I asked her if I could use sterno food warmers for one dish. She said no, and that I could only use electric. So, I asked about an electric griddle to set a tray on, and she still didn't approve it..Then, she mentioned a flameless warmer, but refused to send me a photo. She just said, "oh you'll see it online." I sent her an image of one option online, which still wasn't what she was describing, but still approved...all of the back and forth could've been avoided if she just showed me. To make matters worse, 2 days before the event she had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to charge gratuity on my card before the event! So I told her I do not pay gratuity before a service is given. I also asked a week in advance if I could set up starting at 10am, just 2 hours before the event time. I was told 10:30 was the earliest because the crew had to arrive at 10 and set up. On the day of the event, I showed up at 10:20 and the crew was not onboard. They showed up at 10:30 and still needed to set up. So I couldn't start decorating until 10:50, and was scrambling with the little time I had. And when I asked for the white tablecloths, they had no idea that I requested them. They didn't have any ready. They pulled out a DIRTY tablecloth that we just had to fold in half. And the captain didn't even know about any tablecloths for the smaller tables. There was clearly no communication between what I discussed with Lisa and her crew. I asked Lisa if we can bring the smaller table from the front deck inside. She told me the table outside couldn't fold up and had to stay outside, which I later found out was a lie. We had enough space for the food, but I still wanted the table out of the way. The crew told me they could bring the table in. It just shows she was unwilling to work with me and refused to accommodate a simple request. Once we left the dock, things seemed to settle down. The captain and the rest of the crew were great. Unfortunately, the crew service for the day didn't outweigh the stress I went through to plan the event. At the end of the party, I thanked the crew, but made it very clear to the captain that working with Lisa was extremely difficult and stressful.
