We enjoyed our second sail on The Schooner Freda B out of Sausalito tonight. It was a perfectly wonderful sunset sail on SF Bay. Previously, we took the Freda B on the Wildlife Morning Sail in 2024, which was also fantastic. What makes the Freda B special is the crew. The vessel itself is gorgeous--even the "head" is great! From the moment you board and are greeted by the crew, you know you're in good hands. The safety instructions are thorough, and the crew immediately puts you at ease before setting off. Whether you have a clear night or a little fog (like tonight), the skies are beautiful, the Golden Gate Bridge is magical, and San Francisco twinkles in the distance. The crew meets your every need with kindness, excellent service, and genuine interest in you as a passenger. They're also an interesting bunch--just ask them about themselves! Hot (chocolate!) and cold beverages are available for purchase, including adult beverages. For out of towners...Wear and bring layers. Jacket + sweater/fleece, long pants, beanie hat, gloves if you have them. Blankets available onboard. This is SF Bay 12 months a year - always chilly and the sail is worth every layer of clothing. My parents and I rode the Freda B boat for a 2 hour sunset tour. It was my first time on this type of boat and it was absolutely wonderful! The crew was friendly, the views were spectacular, and there were refreshments and snacks available for purchase. You could volunteer to help raise the sails at the beginning of the trip, which I did, and it was great fun! (would recommend, and it was the perfect photo op). There were moments where it got super windy, so I would recommend bringing a jacket or blanket. Towards the end, they offered hot water bottles to keep us warm which was very much appreciated. Did the Sunday morning marine ecology tour aboard the Freda B and it was wonderful! The crew are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and the boat is beautiful and immaculate. I get motion sickness very easily so I was worried but the expert crew gave us smooth sailing, I never felt sick at all. Real mugs and glasses for all the drinks too, classy! The tour was interesting, history of the bay, Sausalito, SF and Bay Area mixed in with information about the ecosystem, plants and wildlife, something for everyone. I needed a private charter for a small group so I could honor my mother's wishes to have her ashes scattered on the Bay. After calling a few places, I set up a charter of the CIMBA with Marina. It was super easy, just a few emails to nail down a date, completed the form, and paid for the charter. The captain was paid separately when I boarded. Captain Reno was super respectful and kind while also sharing the safety details and bringing some lighthearted fun to what could be a somber event. I think it was probably pretty clear we were a relaxed bunch, so it fit just right. We were brought to a calmer cove within view of San Francisco. Reno positioned the craft so wind would not blow back and then he gave me a little pillow to kneel on as I scattered the ashes and we all tossed flowers into the Bay. We even had a soundtrack my mom would have chosen played through the onboard stereo. Despite the purpose of the cruise, we truly enjoyed the time onboard. The boat was compact and comfortable for our party of 8 and we had our run of it so we could take good photos and just hang out. Highly recommended! read more

MSG surprised me with booking a nice weekend sail recently, which departed from Sausalito and went around in a counter-clockwise circle, going under the GG Br, and skirtin close to the shores of Fort Point and Crissy Field. Magic is the only thing that comes to mind. Clearest weather ever (captain commented on our luck) and warm all around. Wonderful coffee and pastry goodie treats in the morningtime. This review is for the sunset sail on the Freda B. I received a Groupon from a friend to take this sail across the Bay, and definitely had no idea what to expect. But this far exceeded what I could have ever thought. The sunset sail is offered September through November, and again at select times in the spring. In the fall, they sail is across the bay and to the Golden Gate Bridge. In the spring, they sail to the Tiburon area and closer to the Richmond Bridge. Both seasons offer a variety of views, which are absolutely breathtaking. Our tour went to the Golden Gate Bridge, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime type of sail. The vessel was as smooth as butter as it glided through the water. The crew paid light jazz and interacted regularly with the guests. We sailed to the Golden Gate, and then floated most of the way back so that we could catch every moment of the sunset. As the temperature dropped, I felt the need to grab a warm drink. They serve hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot tea. I got hot cider the first time, which was good (not too sweet), and went for the hot chocolate with whipped cream the second go round (which was AMAZING!!! That chocolate/whipped cream combo gave me LIFE!!) The crew of the Freda B did an AMAZING job of really giving us an A+ sailing experience. Customer service is definitely their forte. They were attentive to our needs at all time. Whether it was providing us with beverages or light snacks, taking pictures, or handing out blankets when it got too cold, they went above and beyond each time. If you're in San Francisco to visit, or even if you are a local and searching for a unique outing with a group of friends or family, the sunset sail is highly recommended. Book your tickets early or look for a discount coupon, which they may offer at the start of the season. We recently chartered the Yacht Cimba (32' Grand Banks) from SF Bay Adventures and it was a first class experience. Our small party of 2 met Paul, our host and skipper, who took us from Sausalito to the Golden Gate Bridge and back. Paul was very knowledgeable about the ocean current conditions, weather considerations (wind, fog) and also knew the shoreline intimately and was able to take us to a quite cove where we could scatter our parents ashes. The Cimba is well-maintained and very clean. Paul provided an ice bucket for us to cool down a bottle of wine and we went up to the flying bridge to enjoy the beautiful day and reminisce. Paul has a good amount of experience doing this kind of work and was an excellent host. When we wanted to talk, he was personable and added greatly to the conversation. He did not pry, and he gave us helpful suggestions to scatter the ashes effectively. I strongly recommend SF Bay Adventures. Our family loved the recent sunset sail we took on Schooner Freda B. Captain Paul and crew mates Shannon and Justin are down-to-earth, amazing with kids, and their expertise and friendliness made us feel so welcome! Freda B is beautiful and meticulously kept clean and in good running order. We enjoyed the hot chocolate with whipped cream, sailing under the span of the Golden Gate, and even caught sight of porpoises and sea lions in the water on our way towards the bridge. It was overcast and started to drizzle near the end of our sail, but that didn't keep us from having a great time. The crew were wonderful and checked in on all of us several times. My wife and I went on a sunset sail on the Freida B. It was absolutely incredible. Captian Bosco was a nautical rock star. He took the time to talk to every passenger while make sure we had a great time. Shannon was a true bad ass (I mean that in the very best way) . Her knowledge of the boat and watching her work from end to end of the boat was truly inspiring. The rest of the crew was also extremely cordial and really great. I just got back from taking my family on a Sunday afternoon sail on the Freda B. It was an absolutely beautiful day on the bay. I've taken a few boat trips like this before and I was a little disappointed in this trip. First, I thought that snacks and non-alcoholic beverages were included. The snacks consisted if a couple cheese plates for the whole group. Waters and sodas were $3 each. I had wanted a glass of wine but that was $10 which would have been fine but for the whole family to get a drink it was just annoying to add another $30 to the trip - for one drink. I still have no idea if tap water was available either. None was offered and we all came home dehydrated, and a little irritated with headaches from basically nothing to drink. The boat ride itself was really short. I'd say 1:45, pretty much exactly. There was also a plea for tips and after I gave $10 to my husband to give it really felt like the girl have me an evil eye for not giving anything (my husband was a few people away getting off). Saw another crew girl in a store afterwards and she also was not friendly there. Ultimately it felt like they didn't want to be there. I felt like I was being nickel and dimed. The ticket cost for a family is an investment. Should have been respected like it was the big event that it was for us. Nice boat. Beautiful day. Beautiful views. read more

My husband and I and two friends went on the SF Giants Cruise Friday 4-27-18 aboard the Freda B Schooner. We had a blast!!!! The boat is gorgeous, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and getting to see the SF skyline and AT&T Park from the water was amazing!!! The Bay was unbelievably calm, but cool. Not to worry though, they had plenty of blankets to keep us warm as well as a very comfy room down below that was heated for those who needed to thaw out and they were serving coffee with Baileys which is what kept me warm lol. All in all, in addition to the amazing sights, yummy adult drinks and fun galore...the Giants beat the Dodgers!!!! If you get a chance to go on this cruise, do it, you won't regret it!!! read more

The Lady i spoke with Marina was extremely difficult in booking and planning. She seemed as if she didn't want to select or suggest any other dates available in which I would have been flexible in booking. She then stated that she didn't feel my chemistry in which I was under the impression that my culture is what she personally didn't like, she then tells me she doesn't have anything available the entire month. It took this women over a week to let me know this, being that we have been in Communication for over a week. We (six adults, one two-year-old) chartered the Cimba for a few hours last weekend and it was truly wonderful! Boat was comfortable and more spacious than we anticipated. It was nice to have some space inside if/when the breezes picked up and it got a bit chilly, but the views from the back of the boat, front of the boat, and up on the roof were awesome. Reno, our captain, was the best we could have hoped for. Obviously incredibly knowledgeable about not just sailing/boating, but all the views and surrounding area. Bought a Groupon deal that was $20 per person. We did the Night Sail on the Freda B. It was a nice serene ride over gentle waters. There were nice views of Sausailito and we saw the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is unlikely you will see the bridge and views of SF because the fog creeps in. I think 2 hrs was too long for the ride because you are mostly in one spot, but it was very relaxing and peaceful. They serve complimentary snacks (cheese, cookies, etc) and have drinks available for purchase. Notes/tips: - Dress warmly - Get there early to choose a seat. Seating is limited. - Call management beforehand to figure out exactly where to meet. We got there ten minutes before Freda B departed and were running around like maniacs trying to find where to meet (person told us the wrong area). It departs from the docks. Walk on Bay St. towards water and go left on the small boardwalk. - There is parking on Bay St., you have to pay so get there a little earlier. read more

Perfect weekend, and it's all because of SF Bay Adventures! I had never heard of SF Bay Adventures, which was really surprising because I was researching fun things to do in the Bay Area that combined some sightseeing and a lot of mobility, and I never heard of them. That and the fact that this business has a really generic name that I wouldn't be surprised if another business had the exact same name. As for the experience itself, there's not much that I would change. Normally, I would have given this business 4 stars because of the small mistakes and obstacles that my girlfriend and I came across before and during the trip. When we got to the location listed, we just came across a paper sign to meet them at the docks where they were anchored, across the street from a certain hotel they listed. Given that info, we were in a panic because we had to get there before they left (we basically had 5 minutes to look for it). So we rushed through downtown along the docks, and luckily we were able to find it among all the ships docked along the street. When we got there they were going over the safety talk, so we basically missed that whole talk. But someone with their head on straight should know about how to be safe on a moving boat in the ocean. We departed shortly after when everyone arrived by 6pm. Almost immediately, it started getting windier and windier as the trip went on. We were on the sunset trip where they took us pretty close to San Francisco, and then routed back to Golden Gate Bridge where the sun was setting right in the middle of the bridge. It really was picture-perfect there. The crew was really, really nice, professional, efficient, and approachable. They walked around the ship just casually talking to everyone about the boat, their lives, their plans for the future, etc. There were 2-3 kids on the trip that we were on, and they looked pretty excited, too. My girlfriend and I got to ask some of the other couples to help us take pictures. It seems like some people come back every now and then to just have a fun getaway for a couple hours on a weekend, and I think this would be the perfect way to do it if you don't want to get your own boat! The crew even allows you to take a tour of the boat on your own accord, which was nice of them. We ordered a hot chocolate for $5 with some whipped cream, which was pretty worth it because it kept my hands warm and it was a really big mug (and it tasted awesome). Just remember to bring cash if you're looking to order drinks of snacks (they have plenty for the 2 hour trip). A lot of others were ordering beer so you can kind of smell the beer as you walked around. Overall, the only regret I had was not dressing warm enough. I think if it was a half hour shorter I would have been fine, but looking back on it, there was no other way to witness the perfect sunset of my life without getting a little cold afterward. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place for the memories and the cheap price they offer for the relatively long (2 hour) trip. I bought the groupon for a sunset sail on the Freda B. I thought it was a great experience, but just a warning to 1) be on time. They'll leave as scheduled with or without you 2) go sailing with them on a warm day 3) dress very warm and bring a wind breaker jacket/rain jacket. I went sailing in late may on what seemed to be a warm day (about 75 during the day) but the wind was piercing and very cold. They provide blankets and jackets which is nice, but make sure you bring a sweater and jacket, and go for jeans rather than shorts. Otherwise, it's a great experience and definitely worth the money! Everything was set-up and we had two pickup points, one in Sausalito and near the ballpark in SOMA. I went sailing yesterday for the very first time. It was fantastic! The crew was very experienced sailors and extremely friendly beginning with boarding process all the way to the time we left the boat. We set sail out of Sausalito and headed toward SF. There were amazing views of Sausalito, Angel Island, Tiburon, the Golden Gate bridge and of course San Francisco. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect and I was visualizing those little boats that you see tipping over in the water.....No worries there because the Freda B is a large boat and very stable. The ride was very smooth and glided on the water. A few splashes of water over the bow was unexpected but fun! I'm a girlie girl so I worried what I should wear, but really anything you're comfortable in wearing would be fine... Probably flat shoes would be better and layers of clothes because it does get chilly out on the water. The crew offered blankets for those who might be a bit cold. I was fine with a wind breaker over my clothes. The crew was very friendly and made you feel welcomed aboard the boat. They were very professional explaining all the safety procedures and invited the guests to participate if the wanted. A few tooked them up on the steering part, but the crew handled all the lifting of the sails... Looked fun though! I especially like the history part of the boat, where it was made, sailed, and how it made it's way from St. Augustine, Florida to San Francisco. I surprised my husband with the 2 hour sunset sail on the Freda B. It was an amazing time. The crew were very friendly, funny and informative, also very accommodating. Plenty of place to sit on the deck, with relief from the wind underneath in a cabin. The views are wonderful and the sunset was gorgeous; the ride was also very smooth. Feel free to bring some snacks and money for wine and/or beer supplied by their friendly bartender. This is a great way to spend time out on the water and I highly recommend it. NOTE: bring a wind breaker/jacket. They have blankets in case you get cold, which is great. I've been on the Freda B twice now. Once for a Sunset Sail, and once for a July 4th sail on San Francisco Bay. I have to say the 4th of July sail was the most memorable 4th I've had in my my life! We were so close to the fireworks you could almost touch them. An AMAZING view of the fireworks. I highly recommend this particular event. The crew is friendly, helpful and alot of fun. If you have visitors from out of the area, a sunset cruise is a must-do. They show you sights your visitors won't be able to see from anywhere else in the city. Alcatraz, the Golden Gate, Sausalito - up close and personal. Plus, the schooner is very impressive. It's almost like stepping back in time. My tips: Dress warm, and wear sensible shoes. Did the sunset cruise on the Freda B. The crew were all VERY friendly and accommodating. It was enjoyable, and educational as well. The ride was quite comfortable. I understand that the gaff rigging tends to provide a more balanced ride in that the vessel doesn't heel over as much as recreational sailboats can. We went at a leisurely pace, and it was nice to hear just the sea spray the ruffling of the sails. Most of my Bay cruises have been on ferries, and the vibration, noise and smell of the engines makes for a less tranquil ride. They've got windproof blankets aboard, but if the weather is at all cool or foggy, bringing a hat isn't a bad idea. All in all it was a great time, can't wait to go again! read more
