We…read moregathered at the dock super early and although we thought it was early, Captain Kyle was up and at'm ready to fish! He said we were in for an adventure. The great thing about DSF is that they provide all the gear necessary for your catch. We were going out for Tuna as Bluefin are now found in the waters off the west coast, we were all pretty excited to go fishing. All we brought with us was food and drinks, having everything else included was a bonus. In the event we caught anything, they'll cut, clean, gill and give us fillets. The boat ride was awesome, no one got seasick thank goodness, there's ample seating inside and out. It was super foggy in the early morning, but cleared up by the time we started. I've not been on a fishing boat prior to this trip, and I was blown away at how scenic and beautiful the water was out there. The bright sunshine gave the water a super bright blue appearance, it was cool. Captain Kyle and his deckhand got everyone rigged up and ready to fish. The Captain is youthful and took his time answering questions and giving advice. His mixture of humor and knowledge of where the fish were was certainly a bonus because as soon as lines were in the water we heard, " Fish On!" That first Tuna took everyone on board including my son Parker to reel it in ( Posted Picture). What a freaking rush. It was exciting watching as everyone reeled something in on the boat. We laughed, joked and had such a fun day out on the water with friends. On our way back in to harbor the Captain pointed out several whale pods swimming around the boat, it was a trip seeing them jump. We enjoyed our lunch and talked about who caught the biggest tuna. In all honesty, that first one was the biggest in my book. I can't say enough great things about Captain Kyle and his Diamond Sport Fishing. Reservations were easy as charters go out practically daily either 1/2 or full days. The waters off of California are changing, getting warmer, they're seeing Bluefin Tuna and Marlin so who knows, maybe our next trip we'll catch something epic! Overall Impression: A+

From my direct experience, the…read morewarning signs are hard to ignore: management turnover, frustrated employees, and ownership that no longer seems willing to invest in the club's future. Prospective buyers should look closely before committing. The fleet is now made up of aging boats, roughly 4-6 years old, and the wear is evident. Inventory has reportedly been reduced from 9 boats to 5, including only 2 surf boats, while pricing remains unchanged. At the same time, members are being asked to move to an "unlimited bookings" model that still limits usage to no more than 3 bookings per month!!! Last season alone, boats experienced issues ranging from failed ballast pumps and broken amps to damaged railings and inconsistent availability. Yet despite reduced inventory, aging equipment, and declining service levels, ownership appears intent on maintaining the same pricing without meaningful reinvestment. Anyone considering joining should do their homework, verify the facts independently, and speak with former members. Membership has reportedly fallen from 42 to 17 and continues to trend downward. That kind of decline does not happen without reason.

Definitely recommend Berryessa Water Sports and will see them again soon!

We decided to choose full-day South Fork class II-III rapids which worked out perfectly for the athletic people as well as the beginners in our group. Our guide was Marcus and he was the BEST guide! He was super patient with us and gave us lots of encouragement and praise. Marcus also was training a new guide Joe who practiced guiding on some of the rapids and he also did a commendable job. We saw a lot of other companies on the river and All-Outdoors was definitely the most well organized and professional. Highly recommend! Now we want to come back and do Class IV!

A beautiful spot!…read more The Berkeley Marina quickly became one of my favorite weekend spots while going to school in the city. There is something here for quite literally everyone of all ages and physical capabilities. I visited on a warm Saturday afternoon and was pleased to see there were people literally everywhere. On the land, there were dozens of children playing on the playgrounds. My friends and I were walking by the Adventure Playground (a wooden, quite industrial-looking play area), where we heard what sounded like the hammering of wood. I jokingly asked, "what is that noise? Are the kids in there building the playground themselves?" To my surprise, they literally were. This playground offers the unique opportunity for children to build and design the play area themselves. There are forts, towers, and even a zipline. This is a great way for kids to build community and work with their hands. Right next to this is a more "traditional" playground with slides, swing sets, and all the works. There are also many walking/running trails around the whole marina. Along these paths there are benches and tables where you can have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful view of the bay. You'll see people being active throughout the whole area. The main paths are paved so they are accessible to those with mobility issues. There are public restrooms available that are relatively clean. The water activities are endless here. There are kayak rentals, sail boats, and just plain swimmers. There are multiple docks to launch small crafts and to take a dip. In the shallower beachy areas, there were children swimming. If you look off to the distance, you'll see the strong open water swimmers practicing in their wetsuits. You may even see people learning how to use a hydrofoil board. People are often flying their kites off the bay's breeze too. I believe this is truly a spot for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. But, must I warn you...beware of the squirrels because they WILL run up to you and they sure aren't shy.

Stu and his team worked their butts off laying out 40 ring traps then hauling 25, resetting those, hauling in the other 15 and then the 25 again. We ended up easily hitting our quota of 10 each and took home two coolers of delicious crab. A+++ all around.

I went hiking at the Reinhardt Regional Redwood Park for the first time and loved it!…read more Plenty of street parking at the Redwood Bowl lot and we had no issues with vehicle break ins, luckily, although there were a few warning signs up to remind you to put your valuables away. There are bathrooms by the Redwood Bowl but we couldn't find any helpful maps so just used our phones to navigate. The trail we ended up taking was around 4 miles and took 2 hours. Most of it was shaded and among redwood trees so I really enjoyed that this could work as an afternoon hike. It's a moderate difficulty level with some steep areas. There's also a popular picnic area with grills and an archery range. You could even walk to the nearby swimming pool or visit the Chabot. We only did one half of the hiking loop so will be back to check out the other side.

What the what?? 0_o So, that's on me, kids. My bad. Onto the review... A giant ±1,833-acre redwood forest nestled in the Oakland Hills, this park was a former logging site back in the 1800s. Fortunately, there has been a nice resurgence of redwoods to replace those that were cut down. It ain't old-growth, but we'll take what we can these days. The Good: * Free at certain times of year and at certain entrances (more below) * Mountain biking on certain trails (check map and trail signage) * Horseback riding on certain trails (check map and trail signage) * Camping available (check website for info and reservations) * Reservable and non-reservable picnic tables (check map & website) * Restrooms available in parking lots, as well as at some campsites * Nearly forty miles of trails with something for everyone * If you're looking for a moderate ±4.5-mile loop, go to the Skyline entrance and take the Serpentine Prairie Trail to Dunn Trail to Golden Spike Trail, then back to Dunn Trail The Meh: * $5/vehicle entrance fee on weekends and major holidays between April and October, only at the Redwood Gate entrance * Most of the trails are pretty decent, but some are in rough shape due to water damage The Ugly: * One of the few parks I've seen with "off-leash" sections for dogs--which is fine, except you know there's a good majority of dog owners who think they can control their dogs but really can't. We saw a panicked guy chasing his dog down a trail at one point, and who knows when--if ever--he caught up to it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Conclusion: Great park with tons of trails and lots to see and do.

Front desk staff was friendly and I was able to sign up for a 10 visit pass for $51, otherwise it's $6 a visit. I figured this will hopefully keep me consistent for the beginning of the year. The facility itself could use an upgrade but overall it is wat you would expect from an older building. The entrance into the pool is through the locker area which has lockers, changing area with benches, showers, and bathrooms. The pool looks fairly clean on the surface and we'll maintained. There are lanes divided into slow, fast, and medium speeds for circle swimming. Much of the demographics is 50+ during the time I went and they were all spaced out fairly evenly. The pool is actually open earlier for swim club members ($55/month) which is nice for early birds and the crowd seems younger at that time. I was told it's open to the public to sign up for that as well. The water itself was a good temperature. The pool goes from 3 ft to 9 ft. The bottom of the pool was clean on the 3 feet side, but had debris on the floor in the 9ft side. Folks would swim for about 30 minutes - 1 hour and more folks would flow into the lanes. Everyone is respectful and the regulars would chat with one another at the walls. There are kickboards and other supplies you can borrow from in a shed if you'd like. There is a lifeguard on duty. I asked her for the time, but she didn't know it, which I thought was odd because I could hear her talking on the phone or talking aloud. I asked another swimmer for the time and he said there's a clock right behind me, which I didn't see, and I'm surprised the lifeguard couldn't just tell me there was a clock to check. Apart from that, I enjoyed my one hour swim and got a reality check on how out of shape I am. I'll definitely come back to continue swimming and work my way up to the fast lane. Unforgettable Birthday Boat Experience on San Francisco Bay! We had the most amazing day celebrating my daughter's birthday on the San Francisco Bay with her friends, and I can't recommend this boat rental enough! The weather was absolutely perfect -- clear skies, calm waters, and stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and city skyline. But what really made the trip unforgettable was the exceptional crew. Captain Rodney was phenomenal - professional, fun, and made sure everything went smoothly and safely the entire time. A special shoutout to Deborah and Dina, who did a fantastic job decorating the yacht -- it was beautifully festive and made the celebration feel extra special and personalized. The entire experience was seamless and full of joy, laughter, and memories that we'll cherish forever. Our family has chartered the Oceanis 411 for multiple expeditions on the SF Bay. Each time we've been astounded with the ease of scheduling, convenient parking near the marina and wonderful customer service from Passage Nautical. We were given easy instructions on what to bring and the boats always clean and gorgeous! We've sailed around Angel Island, under the Golden Gate Bridge and even stopped and anchored for lunch! It's always so exhilarating to go under the bridge when most people have only experienced going over it haha! Sail and Exhale is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the bay! We started with a beautiful flowing vinyasa class taught by Monika. She is a fabulous instructor who clearly has vast yoga knowledge and many years of teaching experience. Overlooking the beautiful Richmond harbor then embarked upon our sailing journey. With captain Deb a the helm we set sail around Angel island, past Alcatraz and back taking time to stop and see a pod of porpoises and enjoy the views. I called several companies and was looking for something extraordinary for my daughter's 21st birthday party. Passage sounded like they do these things every day and made it easy and stress free to plan the day. WOW! They did an awesome job! It was very easy to communicate with the owner, Eliot of Compass Rose Yacht Charter. He was willing to adjust the time of departure to our needs and it turned out perfect! Instructions were clear on where to park and our meeting place. We were greeted at the gate by a crew member and directed to the Voyager. The yacht is comfortable and clean and the cabin is spacious enough for our group of about twenty people. Captain Richard was very professional and the crew was friendly and helpful. There is a bar with coffee, tea, water and soft drinks. When we arrived at the designated scattering spot, the crew passed out flower petals to mark the site. Cheryl directed us where and how to scatter the ashes. We also brought a flower reef (created with paper tape), that was also tossed at the spot. The boat slowly circled the site several times, allowing us time for our final thoughts. Total time of our journey was about 1.5 hours, enough time for any speakers or formalities. The price was very reasonable, compared to other, more organized options. My friends and family all agreed and we highly recommend Compass Rose Yacht Charters.

First off, the people - Lisa, her husband (the captain) and her steward are some of the kindest, most helpful humans you'll ever meet. They are also incredibly professional. The process, from booking to good byes, was incredible simple. Now the yacht itself. Wow. She was definitely one of the bigger yachts on the harbor which had my family incredibly excited. We got a beautiful yacht, Lisa checking in and serving us, add to that pastries, fruits, an open bar, two outdoor tables (in the back and front) of the yacht, an upscale and large cabin, music, a great captain, a SECOND STORY to the boat...I mean..this kind of felt like highway robbery. And we were the robbers (they are incredibly reasonably priced) Since we're in a time of Covid I should also add that I saw them wiping the boat down several times, they were always in masks and Lisa served the food and drinks with gloves and a mask on. It's clear that they are very conscious of their health and the health of their customers. Lisa's mom is 90 and they're doing their best to take the right precautions to keep their family safe. All in all, I cannot wait to go back. I cant wait to bring friends onto this yacht (when it's safe). I couldn't be happier with this decision. To summarize, I was constantly trying to work around the restrictions that Lisa failed to disclose at the time of contract. And all of this could've been avoided if it was mentioned on the very first day. I just felt blindsided every time she mentioned something new. If you run a business that hosts events, these should be listed in your contract! She was misleading, had poor communication, was unwilling to work with me, and lied. And this event is a couple $$$$. You would think that I would get better service for paying so much. Save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere! I met Lisa in February, through Sailo.com. While I toured the yacht, Lisa explained what I could expect from booking with them. She said I could decorate the boat however I wanted. She mentioned there were tablecloths in a variety of colors to match any theme. I mentioned I wanted pink tablecloths, and she said she had some light pink shades. She showed me upstairs and said they had tablecloths for the smaller tables as well. I mentioned I would want to decorate upstairs. I asked her if I could bring food onboard, which was okay. We went over bar service, music, and set up. She mentioned the yacht was available to set up in the morning before my event time. Now everything to me sounded great, but little did I know, a lot of what she mentioned was complete BS. I reviewed the contract in March, ready to book with her. The contract had the general cost information. I had questions about bar service, but since the company seemed very accommodating, I didn't have any other questions. Fast forward to July, my event was set for the end of the month. I was already ordering decor. Once I started emailing her details about how I wanted to decorate, many things were not approved. There were restrictions that were not disclosed at the time of contract. For example, no balloons outside, no tape on any surface;only string or ribbon. That is a huge detail you should mention early on, especially when it was clear that I wanted to decorate. After going through multiple options, I had to search for plan b, and just rented marquee numbers, since it was freestanding decor. And even she had some hesitations about that. Then, I asked her multiple times for photos of the pink tablecloths she had mentioned. 2 weeks before the party, she told me she "couldn't find them," and only had white or neutral. Clearly she did not have a variety of tablecloths. I don't even think the pink tablecloths existed. So I told her I would like the white tablecloths for the party. The next issue was food. I asked her if I could use sterno food warmers for one dish. She said no, and that I could only use electric. So, I asked about an electric griddle to set a tray on, and she still didn't approve it..Then, she mentioned a flameless warmer, but refused to send me a photo. She just said, "oh you'll see it online." I sent her an image of one option online, which still wasn't what she was describing, but still approved...all of the back and forth could've been avoided if she just showed me. To make matters worse, 2 days before the event she had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to charge gratuity on my card before the event! So I told her I do not pay gratuity before a service is given. I also asked a week in advance if I could set up starting at 10am, just 2 hours before the event time. I was told 10:30 was the earliest because the crew had to arrive at 10 and set up. On the day of the event, I showed up at 10:20 and the crew was not onboard. They showed up at 10:30 and still needed to set up. So I couldn't start decorating until 10:50, and was scrambling with the little time I had. And when I asked for the white tablecloths, they had no idea that I requested them. They didn't have any ready. They pulled out a DIRTY tablecloth that we just had to fold in half. And the captain didn't even know about any tablecloths for the smaller tables. There was clearly no communication between what I discussed with Lisa and her crew. I asked Lisa if we can bring the smaller table from the front deck inside. She told me the table outside couldn't fold up and had to stay outside, which I later found out was a lie. We had enough space for the food, but I still wanted the table out of the way. The crew told me they could bring the table in. It just shows she was unwilling to work with me and refused to accommodate a simple request. Once we left the dock, things seemed to settle down. The captain and the rest of the crew were great. Unfortunately, the crew service for the day didn't outweigh the stress I went through to plan the event. At the end of the party, I thanked the crew, but made it very clear to the captain that working with Lisa was extremely difficult and stressful.

Our captain, Rowan, was personable and pleasant, and gave us space to say goodbye as we needed. I know Captain Kirk's couldn't control the weather, but if they did, it couldn't have been a better day. Beautiful sunshine, the water was sparkling, and our loved one had the send-off he wanted. Many thanks to everyone at Captain Kirk's for a pretty much perfect experience. We highly recommend them for anyone looking for a comfortable and sensitive voyage when scattering a loved one's ashes in the Bay.

Lifejackets for all! He and his assistant Nancy took us to a calm, beautiful spot just outside the Golden Gate. And they were kind enough to go back and fish out first a jacket, then a child's shoe, that fell in the water when it was windy. Thanks to Rowan and Nancy for making this a special send-off for Kay!

500th review. For…read moreour team outing we picked Ruby Sailing for a two hour adventure out to the SF Bay. Getting a hold of Captain Josh was very easy over the phone as he promptly answered all my questions and gave me several slots available for booking. I called him a few times to go over logistics and he was able to get a confirmation quickly once we settled on a day. The Ruby will hold about 28 passengers and we had a little under 20 people which allowed plenty of room to walk around the boat. The captain is a laid back guy and did not have a problem waiting for us while we made our way down to the dock from lunch. Ruby Sail is docked immediately behind The Ramp. Typically they ask for about 15 minutes to get everyone boarded to avoid any departure delays. He had one crew member helping out on the boat. On board you'll find a bartender serving beer, wine, and soft drinks. They were well stocked up with a great selection of drinks to go around which we enjoyed very much. Since we already ate at The Ramp, we didn't opt for the catering option. Otherwise they can provide food for your event as well. You'll get soaked depending on the side that you sit on the boat. I highly recommend that you wear shoes with good traction so you don't slip. I ended up losing my hat as it was so windy in the SF Bay but Captain Josh had a replacement on hand for me as this happens a lot apparently. So if you do happen to bring a hat, keep it snug on your head or it'll end up somewhere in the SF Bay like mine. We ended up with a ton of great pictures of Alcatraz, Bay Bridge, and the SF skyline. I'll totally go sailing again on the Ruby real soon.

Originally we were supposed to be on a smaller ship, but they moved us to accommodate our sit down dinner which was great! Working with Toby was very easy. He was incredibly responsive and gave great suggestions on what would work best for our group size. The entire crew was also exceptionally accommodating. It was smooth sailing for the most part, but it did get a bit bump as we cruised under the bridge (the views were totally worth it). Overall, a 10/10 experience that I would highly recommend to everyone!

Our cruise director, Jewell, put her heart into making sure the celebration went smoothly. My partner had an extremely negative experience today while out on the charter boat. He and the…read moreonly other black person (his friend) were being bullied continuously by a crew member named Zack. Apparently Zack was hyper focused on them almost the entire time, moving their equipment around without asking, hovering over them, ordering them around, and even openly made fun of my partner for the noises he made while using the bathroom! This was obviously targeted as my partner had observed over the trip that no one else on the boat was being treated this way. A different crew member had actually noticed this as well and agreed with my partner about Zack's behavior. To me this is insanely unacceptable to have someone like this on a boat crew that hosts people. My partner was super excited for this trip, he spent a lot of money for him and his friends to go and put in a lot of effort to make the trip happen. It's not often he does stuff for himself and he was really looking forward to it. After he came home he was just about in tears talking about it. It really hurts to see someone you care about look so crushed. My partner is a kind, friendly, and respectful person and did not do anything to deserve this kind of treatment. I'm really disappointed and angry for him and his experience. Aside from that - his experience with the rest of the crew and Captain J was great. Thank you Captain J for hearing him out afterward. I strongly recommend getting rid of this guy before he messes things up for your business and continues to hurt people. It's complete BS for this kind of thing to happen to not just a respectful paying customer but someone who didn't do anything but be black. Come on.
