I was walking downtown when I spotted a sign that said Blue Hat Coffee and it was a building I had never been inside. I figured I'd give it a try and I was not disappointed! The interior had an old fashioned style to it that made me feel like a kid again, and the service was extremely friendly and conversational! They have community events inside along with some board games you can play with others! Love the environment! The desserts are made in house, and I went with a slice of apple pie and MY GOODNESS! It tasted so fresh and coupled with the peppermint hot chocolate I got, it went very well together. This business in located in what was the downstairs of the Farmington Masonic Lodge. It took a while to get built but it has turned out pretty good. It's been open for a few years but this is my first visit. Atmosphere was open with stunning wood floors. Wood table complete the look. Light color on the walls and large windows let in light and create a bright area. Customers seemed to be a pretty good cross section. Young couple with a stroller, group of women, some guy sitting with a laptop. When I walked in I was greeted and there seemed to be attention to the details of my order. There were plenty of sweets available with a wide variety of pastries. For an old guy like me prices seemed high but not out of line in similar coffee houses. Parking lot is small but there is street parking with just a few more steps. To add to the "home effect" there bookshelves with books and games available for your use. Bottom line is that it gives a small hometown feel in a small hometown. It must be time for the most important question, would I go back? This place was cute! An old church turned coffee shop. Lots of fun artwork inside and interesting sculptures outside. There was a ton of seating indoors and a nice patio outdoors. We came by here around 130pm on a weekday and there weren't many people. Blue Hat coffee offers breakfast and lunch food, desserts and a wide variety of drinks. The pastries looked really yummy. I decided to order one of the favorites, a toasted coconut chai latte. It was sweet and delicious. The woman working was very nice and helpful. I would come back here again! read more

Meh. We stopped by a few weeks ago after dinner. I got a cold brew and it was extremely watery and diluted. I was pretty disappointed with the quality and the server looked like she really didn't want to be there. Overall, subpar experience -- there's better coffee shops in the area. My cousin said she's been to Blue Hat Coffee before, and the last time she was there, the same server was working. She wanted a pastry and the server grabbed it with her hands (no gloves or anything). So maybe not the most sanitary either. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday morning for a cup of coffee and a breakfast bite. The coffee was good. There is a variety of morning pastries. Some looked homemade. I had a cinnamon thingy which I don't think was homemade. Coffee was in a to go cup and pastry served on a paper plate. Excellent work space. The space reminded me of a library. There are a lot of work tables. The space reminds me more a library. People were whispering. They have board games to play, and artwork for sale on the wall. Service was friendly. read more

I've been to this establishment many times. May not be going there again, though. Coffee is pretty good but rather overpriced. Regular staff tries to be nice. Their choice of pastries/cookies/muffins is pretty good, too, but a bit costly. I had a salad there once and it was really not worth the money. They used to have good scones there, but I didn't see any this visit. They charge for water??? 75 cents? Who does this??? It's "policy." The manager isn't very nice to good customers, either, especially on this issue. I guess water must be in short supply in Farmington in the summer, or he's afraid they won't make a profit off that cup they're sacrificing. You might drink water instead of coffee!!! Heaven forbid a loyal customer should ask for a cup of water! Atmosphere is OK, rather library-like, if you want to sit at a table and read, but they'll kick you out if a book club is meeting. At least the bathrooms are clean and capacious. Perhaps you can get water out of the tap once you empty your coffee cup! read more

HIIII BLUE HAT! WHERE ARE YOUR REVIEWS?! I have found a new place to frequent!!! The barista has experience in the service industry and it shows in the way he interacts with patrons behind the counter and how he busses/converses with tables after they receive their order. As someone who works in the same industry it's so refreshing to meet a personality like that. It makes the coffee shop stand out more from it's local competitors. Because the interior... lacks life and we all know it. Yes. The indoor seating area is outdated and makes you feel like you're in a school cafeteria or a cafe area of a library. HOWEVER: it's been only two months since they finally opened (They've been working on this for over a year to open their doors) and it has a lot of potential to bring some more character and color. They already have pieces from local artists for sale! The cafe has very high ceilings and I'm excited to see what they decide to cover up some of the naked walls. Maybe a nice tapestry or quilt? Maybe have a contest or a community project so we can bring some color to you? for free? lol. Maybe some donation from neighbors with plant clippings? who doesn't love plants. Whatever you need, we're here to support you. We're excited you're here. I am a big fan so far. The tables are thick, sturdy and big. There is so many jokes with that statement- but lets be mature here. I have room to put my work out without needing to use chairs for extra leverage or feel the pressure to leave because other local places are too cramped. Blue Hats chairs are outdated but.. they actually have padding and it's comfortable. It's comfortable folks and I'm not mad about it. I ordered something off menu. I requested something spicy and he made it happen without any problems. He told me a little bit about how things run: housemade syrups, bake their own fresh noms like: eclairs, scones, cookies, cakes (things included in pictures in this review). So if you don't judge a book by it's cover- I think this is a great spot for you to try. Be mindful that they just opened. The coffee is fairly priced, it's good, the atmosphere is quiet and the ambiance offers a lot of space. I am excited to see this business grow. Try it out. Park in the lot right next to it. This place just opened not long ago. Inside a renovated house and also sharing space with the free masons secret society this independent coffee shop sits in a cafe like area. It is well lit and spacious. Not much decorations yet but they were working on filling the space with art. For a place that just opened they seemed to be doing well there was a few people there. Coffee was pretty good/average at an average price. Definitely will be back to see how the menu evolves and love the local art. read more

Very nice and friendly coffee shop offering a variety of coffee drinks and bake goods. I really enjoy the molasses cookies. They do offer sandwiches however I have not tried. Enjoyable game night on every other Wednesday. read more

The woman at the counter was super friendly and helpful & even offered us a brownie that was going to be thrown away at the end of the night anyway. I met up with a few friends last week at Blue Hat Coffee and couldn't have been happier with our choice to meet. The cafe is big but cozy and is in a historic building with an attached parking lot. Lots of tables for study groups and we chose a circle of comfortable arm chairs in a circle. My first drink was a white chocolate frescante (their frozen drinks) and it tasted like a delicious vanilla ice cream. My second drink was an ice tea which was a green iced tea with strong fruity notes and a little bit of floral. It was so good! Disclaimer: I am not a coffee person and this does not reflect the coffee sold at Blue Hat. I was looking for a workspace and had trouble with the wifi here. But everything was alright. I was able to get what I needed to be done . The electrical plugs are on the floor. The table I preferred to sit at did not have a plug on the floor. So I had to move to another table. The coffee cafe is nicely decorated. It has a very old school look with the wooden floors. Prices seem pretty high as normally when I see coffee on diner menus it's less than $1.25. Prices range from $3 and more. They had pop cans and other drinks in a stand up fridge. Food look like it was still being made. I will come back again later this year for lunch and try it out. We recently heard about the yummy Blueberry scones at Blue Hat and so we decided to give it try. Our friends were not kidding they are delicious. Phil the owner and his staff went above & beyond customer service. They had ran out early in the morning and said if you come in after 10:00 am he would make another batch & hold off on making what he was supposed to be making (sticky buns & cinnamon rolls) to accommodate our order. We truly appreciated his kindness & willingness to do this for us. We have the utmost respect for his coffee shop and will continue to support his "small" business. the place looks clean on surface but while watching them prep my pastry and shot of espresso I didnt see one handwashing which goes directly against health code of Michigan. while at the register I was able to listen to the employees openly trash talk another employee which is highly unprofessional and inappropriate. the espresso shot they pulled was also sub par quality, and while that is happening saw an employee transferring pastries to another plate without gloves, which is just gross. read more
