I was surprised to m find Blue Ginger, and unassuming strip mall, sushi restaurant, packed on a Thursday evening, but it was. What was also surprising was the bar area in the middle of the restaurant with a cute little sushi boat river going around. We sat at a table near the window and were greeted right away, but needed some time to look at their extensive menu. Everybody was friendly, it did take some time to get our order out, but not surprising, as the place was literally packed with patrons waiting to be sat. We ordered three rolls. All were delicious and I was surprised by the low cost of the bill once it came around. Blue Ginger, looks very odd from the outside, and not very welcome, but it transforms as soon as you step inside. I highly recommend it, and can't wait to return. read more

I really wanted to give 5 stars but, I just couldn't. This is the second time I try Blue Ginger and I just do not feel the quality is up to par with other sushi restaurants. I ordered pick up due to the pandemic situation we are in. So, I cannot comment on dining experience. However, I can comment on the food i ordered. I had the Boston and California rolls. These are usually 2 of my favorites and "go-to" rolls when I have sushi. I'm not sure what it is but, they just had no flavor. It could be the way they make their rice. Possibly lack of rice vinegar. I am not sure. It is just not satisfying when you taste it. I will say that my parents love Blue Ginger. They have gone many times when they were open for dining in and always rave about it. I, unfortunately, have not had the same experience. I would say, give it a try and maybe you will like it. The set up is very cool! They have a little conveyer belt that goes around the sushi bar that has sushi on it. I think it is super cute! I just worry about the sanitary side of that. I don't like the idea of my food riding along past other people who are talking, coughing, sneezing. Etc. You get me right? I will not be returning to Blur Ginger. read more

Went with a friend tonight to fulfil my craving for tuna crispy rice and to be honest, I'm not satisfied. They have a nice concept going on with the little sushi boats and the prices are pretty affordable, However- the flavours are so imbalanced! Too spicy, too sweet, truly nothing we ordered (except from the crab rangoons) hit the spot. The fish is fresh and the service is decent, but I will not be returning. They need to balance their dishes ASAP. read more

I have been to Blue Ginger a few times and both have been consistently been really good. I really love the conveyor belt sushi option, although they also have tables and booths if you are looking to sit at the table and order off the menu. I recommend the conveyor belt, you get to see the options in person and it's always a little roll of the dice of what you will get. Sushi roulette! The conveyor belt is made up of small boats that circle around the sushi bar and pass by the kitchen, so you get a combo of hot kitchen items and fresh sushi. Best of both worlds! All the plates are color coded from $2-$6 per plate, so it's super reasonable. Most of the plates are $5 and $6 and a sprinkle of the other options throughout the boat ride. Most of the plates offer 3-4 pieces of sushi and are packed with fresh fish and sauces. The kitchen items are also on point. We had dumplings, vegetable spring rolls and the general tso's chicken which is honestly some of the best chicken I've had in SoFlo. The waitress are really quick to fill your water and check in to make sure you're doing alright or need anything. Overall would recommend for fresh sushi and overall good eats! read more

So this restaurant actually has two locations and the waitress informed me that the other location has a bigger, better menu. There is a center section with the boats that circle around and you simply pick what you want. I found vegetarian options to be a bit limited. No homemade ice tea was a small turn off...most Japanese restaurants have it. Prices were reasonable and there is plenty of parking at this location. So I've been here once or twice and had an OK experience. Unfortunately, tonight was a pretty big fail. First and foremost, it is in the 60s right now temperature wise in South Florida which pretty much only happens once or twice a year at this point. For some reason they weren't paying attention to anyone walking in... And my mother and I just stood in the doorway with the cold air hitting us for about five minutes without anyone saying anything to us. Someone who was waiting for their food told us that we could sit at the bar, and after trying to find a hostess to ask if that was the case and being unsuccessful, we finally decided to just go ahead and seat ourselves. So we are seated at the bar, and no one comes up to us or pays attention to us for about five minutes.. then a hostess finally taps my shoulder and says we need to move. She then moves us the opposite side of the bar, and we waited for another five minutes while watching two other groups of people receive their chopsticks and napkins and have their drink orders taken after being seated at the bar after us, again being totally ignored. So, I finally called it and left. Very negative experience and extremely disappointing. I don't normally leave such negative reviews, but after being around this long this place shouldn't get away with treating their customers this poorly. read more

Blue ginger was in our list of places to try for a while because we were excited to eat somewhere with the floating boat options and had attempted to have dinner there on a Friday night, but the mine went all the way outside. We finally made our way there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, but were told the bar section didn't open until 5pm. We sat down and ordered a few sushi rolls to try and were taken by surprise as soon as we had our first bite: the fish used was very fresh and every roll was a mixture of perfectly paired ingredients. We loved it so much that my bf decided to order the same items for take out at dinner time. We'll have to come back at night time to try out the floating boat experience, but if the quality of the fish we had today sets the tone for it, I'm sure we will not be disappointed. My only reason for giving it 4 stars and not five is that the bathroom had a sewer-like smell when I came in to use it and the place was extremely dark inside.. I wish they'd let more light in during daytime so I don't feel like im out eating at 8pm during lunch. read more

Great atmosphere and good food. The sushi bar has a moat of tiny wooden boats that carry sushi plates around the bar, it starts cycling at 5pm and can get packed on the weekends. I really love this Asian spot. The first time I was introduced to it I really fell in love with how different the concept was and how authentic it seemed. They have little floating sushi boats at the bar that you can just pick and choose what plate you want to eat and what cost you are going to pay associated with the color of the plate. This was my first time dining at this Blue Ginger and my experience was great. I met up with a friend and enjoyed some good food, good drinks, and conversation. The restaurant was just getting going when we arrived around 6:30. I found us a seat at the sushi bar that was located right in the center. It was a great spot because we got early dibs on the plates that came around on 'sushi river'. The selections tonight were good, and it was easy to find what we were looking for. However, I was expecting to get a good cocktail to go with my dinner tonight but they only serve beer, wine, and saki. We both ordered a saki cosmo. The first round of drinks wasn't strong enough. They tasted way too fruity and too light on the saki. So on our second round we asked them to kick it up a notch, which they did. I was very pleased. A couple of hours after arriving the small restaurant became crowded. It looked like almost every seat at the bar and at the booths were taken. I'd suggest getting there around 6:30 and no later than 7:30 if you want to he seated right away. And especially if your group consists of 2 or more people. read more

Don't know what happened to my other pictures, but our experience here was pretty good. Saturday night family dinner, party of 6 walk-ins who were accommodated quickly and comfortably. Service was sweet, our waitress kept checking in on us and making sure the food was good, as well as kept the table clean (we had little kids with us). We ordered orange chicken, Kani Su (krab, avocado, masago in a cucumber wrap), an avocado roll, California roll, steak teriyaki, and Thai donuts. The Kani Su was good, with subtle hints of seeetness I'd rate it a 7.5-8/10, and the avocado roll was a good palate cleanser. I didn't have any of the steak teriyaki or orange chicken, but both were hits with the kids. California roll wasn't mine either, but I had a bite and it was exactly what you'd expect. The miso soup was off, couldn't really tell what but maybe too much tofu? Not the best miso soup I've had. Overall, decent place that doesn't necessarily wow but also definitely doesn't disappoint. I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. They have a sushi boat where you can sit around the bar and the sushi chefs are prepping the sushi. I really enjoyed all their sushi items. They have a lot of variety as well as prices, it's pretty cheap. Each plate has a certain color ranging from $2-6 and I think that's pretty cool because you're not overstuffing yourself with just one roll but you have many choices to choose from. I like that they have a separate menu whereas if you want to order more you can put in a side order. I really enjoyed their shrimp tempura rolls, there was so much flavor and I love the crunchiness on top. I do like their dessert choices as well, we got the Thai donut and if you check in you get free dessert $35 or more on your bill. Blue Ginger is one of the more different bar style restaurants. Plates of food (sushi in general) get placed in boats and you choose whether you want to sink or swim. Sink as in you grab the plate of food and eat it or swim as in you just let the boats ride the conveyor. The plates are colored and depending on which color plate you get, that's the price you have to pay. But careful! It can add up quick... especially if you're hungry. But if you like the food then who cares? Just keep sinking food down into your stomach. I have noticed that the least expensive things are fried and the most expensive things are raw. Our bill was pretty decent for what we ate. It really hit the spot. The bar style is helpful if you want food right away and hungry. I suggest coming in a few minutes after they open as there will be more food going around. Service was top notch as our server checked up at all the right times! read more

We sat on the sushi bar area to enjoy the different plates. With the very first bite, my friend loved the sushi rolls. We ate up with picking different sushi rolls. Each plate is a different price based on the color. The ingredients used were fresh and the fact the chefs made them right in front was nice touch. The ingredients are not listed but you can ask any server or chef if you are unsure of a ingredient. Whatever we tried, it was excellent. Wish this place was closer to my home.
