They often don't have your book. They're very nice about it and will order it for you but you can get it cheaper and faster on amazon

It seemed strange that a place would be called Austin book shop and located on Jamaica Ave, but…read morethen I read it used to be located on Austin Street in Kew Gardens. My first question was what I ask all used bookstores -- did they had a philosophy section, but "very little or no humanities", according to Ray Harley, the owner. "What we do have is Baseball and American history." Both of which they have in abundance. He wasn't kidding. Shelves and shelves of books on the sport -- I mean, if you're into all things baseball, this is a literary treasure trove). In addition to American history. I also found a decent section on Jewish and U.S. Catholic history as well. The store itself was a study in chaos; apparently they were unearthing a lot of material from the cellar, so boxes and boxes everywhere which required some nimble navigation of the stacks. But what was shelved themselves was fairly organized. It's definitely a good place for browsing. Pricing: specializing in old, rare and out-of-print, most books on the shelf that I found were in the $20-25 range. There are a everal $1 carts out front where I found some pleasant surprises. Takeaways (nice haul): - The Mission: A Film Journal by Daniel Berrigan, S.J. -- regarding the making of one of my favorite movies. From the dollar carts: - - America's Lighthouses, An Illustrated History - Diary of a Dead Man 1862-1864 (Ira Pettit, Union Private) - When the Cheering Stopped, The Last Years of Woodrow Wilson, by Gene Smith - "Talk to the Hand" a DOONESBURY compilation I'll definitely be back. Odd hours as it's only open weekends. Tip for those contemplating going: the owner advised to call ahead to inquire about hours, "because I'll never know when I'll be babysitting."

Good bookstore. Full of good books. Highly recommend that you drop by to buy some cool and good old…read morebooks.
