Stone and Brick Masonry Group - Before

UPDATED 3/11/26. Here's what I had to deal with ever since they redid my patio:…read morehttps://youtu.be/tA2aaeo_bbM Original Review back in 2024: Do NOT hire them to do your patio. I had them come re-sand and reseal, and the sand filled in is falling apart on one side of my patio as well as the edges in only a few months. They came a second time to try to fix it. Told them to let me know when they come because I want to be there whey they start so I can see what they're doing. I did not trust they were doing it well. They came out but didn't let me know and only after they had started, they came to me. That pissed me off, because I explicitely told them to wait until I am outside with them because of that and that I had questions. That request was blatantly ignored. Now about a couple months later, that sand is falling between the cracks and soft to the touch, I can literally compress it with my finger and I now have sand missing between cracks all over the place on one side of my patio again. There's no way they sealed that because that sand wouldn't be soft to the touch and able to compress with your finger! It's not only soft, they don't even put enough sand in it let alone forget to seal the damn thing. The second time they came out, they try to blame it on water, as if I'm an idiot (sure after a few months I expect this to all fall apart). There's nothing that would cause this. Regular rain shouldn't cause a $2k+ job to fail after a few months. The prior company who sanded this patio, the sand was not falling apart like this anywhere. Even after 5 years. Now I'm going to have to refill that sand and fix this myself. Maybe learned a lesson, just do this stuff yourself. Do it right the first time and you won't have reviews like this. Or customers that annoy you because you can't do your job well. They claim "warranties to match our underrepresented workmanship!". What warranty? I got no warranty and even when they come to fix the mess up, it still falls down. Anyone gets rain, even down pours. It's very clear what areas they did not do properly because the rest of the patio is holding ok. I expect a job to last a few years not a few months. Rain and nature happen, we expect this to hold up at least on average 3-5 years. I'm just going to seriously go back to Menards, there's a mexican guy there who knows a lot about this, and he's told me how I can just fix it myself and save money. He explained the different sealants, etc. and the pros and cons. That's exactly what I am going to do. No more hiring people for this. The ants are even crawling into the cracks now. Good times, right before it starts getting cold outside. So glad I have to spend a couple hours fixing this sh** now. I don't normally go out and rant like this but any moron can see this is not done right. More here on my actual patio, see the problem first hand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm8h2ZUq88A How it's supposed to be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMu1l2ure4M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRGi6xa9ALo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi-KeIcv-Kk You do your customers right. You f up the job, you redo it. I expect the craft to be done well. You make mistakes, you fix it. You don't just tell people it is what it is and make excuses like you did with me after the fact.

My old house (circa 1850) presented unique challenges to them, but their experience prepared them to easily accomplish the task. So happy with the quality & the appearance of the finished work.

After sending the down payment money, all those attributes changed. There was absolutely no communication between this company and myself and quite frankly I never saw Lenny again. My main contractor turned out to be a guy named Ethan. My main problem with this company was their serious lack of communication with me. They would call when they were already in route and leave little information on what to expect. I was supposed to know the ins and outs of a chimney rebuild with NO explanations from the supposed professionals. I never really had any conversations with them unless they didn't show up and I would call to find out why. My 1st impression was on the day they were supposed to start work here, after waiting 6 weeks, they requested to push the job back 2 more days. When I was not happy about that idea, Lenny said Ok they would start the next day. The next day Ethan showed up late, set up some scaffolding and then left at 10:30 never to return. Elite had successfully pushed my job back the 2 days they originally wanted in a very sneaky way, by pretending they were starting my job. I really don't appreciate a company that I have hired to act in such an unprofessional manner, thinking they pulled a fast one on their client. Nothing was ever communicated to me through the entire rebuild. Oh, but the day they finished they could knock on the door because final payment needed to be made. The invoice was in my email promptly the next morning. Previously they would maybe show up, maybe not a couple times with no explanation at all. This company felt no need to communicate with the client unless they wanted something. If I questioned something I was an annoyance to anyone associated with Elite. I was a non person with a checkbook to them. Not the kind of company I like to hire for a company with the highest quote! I could not tell you about the quality of the actual rebuild , I was relieved the stress was over. I certainly would not recommend Elite to anyone because in my opinion they are terribly unprofessional and did nothing to educate me about the process, did not like being questioned and after they received final payment reached out so they didn't get a bad review. Hopefully they treat the next paying customer a little better.

Glen Galis Concrete Contractor - Great job

Another company came out, drilled down the uneven concrete and coated the cracks with matching concrete for $100. Is this a lifetime fix? No, cracks do re-open but even brand new concrete can crack over time. Then Glen said to repair walkway was $2500 (completely take up and replace so it sits at higher angle to front patio so the step up to the front concrete porch is not so high up. Another company put in a form and built me a concrete step that makes it possible to not replace the walkway, and then they filled in concrete imperfections and cracks in the sidewalk and left me extra concrete color, if it re-opens. My garage needed a new step (replace old wood one with concrete) and he quoted me $225.00 which is reasonable, and my side step had sunk and he quoted me $525 to replace it. The other company simply added a step to the side concrete, anchored the new form to the house, recoated original step and charged me $200. Their cost on the garage step was similar but they made it extra wide, so we can fully step out on it. I guess what I'm saying is there is more than one way to fix concrete, and Glen only does it the expensive way. If you have a large budget (I would have had to allot $8000.00), then yes, go for it. I also had concerns that all the drilling of the front patio would affect cracks in basement wall on that side and re-open them and queried Glen re that in the email (no response). Glen does not respond well (if at all) to emails, so remember to call. I think that he does great work, but remember it's only replacement work. He's not going to offer you any kind of "fixing" it work. I've learned through watching the other mason work, that concrete is fixable, also, by a home owner. It's fascinating watching him mix colours to match whatever imperfection needs patching. I now have fixed some low places and cracks in my garage floor myself!!

I called them about water intrusion into our ground level bedroom. They diagnosed the water issue as two foundation cracks and charged $1,700 for the repair plus a $250 overtime fee. The work was completed and done satisfactorily, but the actual source turned out to be a leaking water heater not the cracks. Yes, the repairs could be considered necessary in the long run, but there was no need to expedite this repair. Their recommendation was an educated guess rather than a proper diagnostic process to ensure the two cracks were the actual source of water intrusion. I was trusting their professional service to provide an accurate diagnostic. When I requested a refund of the overtime fee only (given the cracks were not actively leaking) and a goodwill discount (given the damages I incurred due to time wasted, since this was not actually the problem), they offered to remove a $100 late payment fee I didn't even know existed and a $50 goodwill discount. The offer is something, but it fell short, especially because the director was curt and seemed more interested in closing out the conversation than actually resolving a legitimate complaint. Get a second opinion before agreeing to any foundation work. EDITED IN RESPONSE TO COMPANY DOUBLING DOWN... I appreciate the response but I would like to expand on a few of the comments made. While Saturday was accommodating, it was only necessary due to the incorrect diagnosis. Your team tried to schedule me a week and a half out. I asked if they could do better. Your team then offered Saturday. It wasn't for my convenience, it was a necessity as a result of your diagnosis. My walls were supposedly actively leaking water, of course I wanted this done as soon as possible. If this was correctly diagnosed, I could've had the cracks repaired anytime. Additionally, you specifically told me on the phone, this $250 fee was directly for a technician's overtime, which in your words, "is why you cannot refund it." Not a standard Saturday service fee, as you've now stated publicly. In regards to the $100 late payment fee, while it may be outlined in the contract, a courtesy reminder would have been appropriate given I was not onsite for the repair and never received a final invoice on the day of service. How was I expected to pay within the terms without ever receiving a bill? Your response also confirms my original review. Your diagnosis was based on another company's assessment rather than your own independent verification. A proper diagnostic process would have verified that water was NOT actually entering through the cracks. Yes, the cracks were there, but no, they were not actively leaking. Hence my request to remove the "service fee." I hired you to stop the water intrusion, not simply repair my foundation. The water heater was the actual source.
