Ive eaten chicken fried steak all over our great United States, but this is pretty bad. The sausage gravy is very greasy and doughy. More flour than anything else, along with NO seasoning makes for a rather gross breakfast. the scambled eggs were gross and not even really scambled. Today I got the giant cinnamon roll, and it. Is. Amazeballs. Washingtonians take their cinnamon rolls pretty seriously; Maltby Cafe, Stilly Diner, etc. But this one is my new favorite. So much so I actually called the restaurant to give them my compliments - the owner bakes them fresh herself! The hash browns and coffee are so good, and the service is outstanding. I have been coming to the Blue Bird since the 90's and it is nostalgic. Tami A has been my server the past few months and she is fantastic. All of the servers at Blue Bird are kind and attentive. It is a classic American diner with real people and good food. I feel the weirdest writing a three star review, is it necessary, no, though it may be helpful. Stilly Diner had a long line in the misting rain, nope. We read the sign as we entered, seat yourself and specials. Got some coffees and ordered up some grub. Table ordered up after us somehow received food first, our food took close to 40 min. Red headed bus boy needs to acquire a food handlers permit, or just some training in the field. Pleasant enough with the people, yet still some things were very unexceptional, this guy needs some training!!! My Country Benedict was pretty darn good, coffee was light, service was hit & miss, ran dry twice, nice enough. Seems improvement across the board is needed. A clean, simple, friendly place for fresh made grub. We were seated right away and were hello'd by three different people walking from the door to our booth - five star friendly. Our waitress may have been new, forgot a side and slow to bring the check, but she made up for it with niceness. I had the cheeseburger and fries and, when she said it was house made, I also had to try the coleslaw. The burger was good but I will scratch the sweet relish next time. I've been having breakfast or lunch once or twice a week for the past few years at the Bluebird. I always leave a happy camper! My favorite go to is the classic cheeseburger with their excellent onion rings! On Sundays the locals pack the place so be prepared for a wait! I try to sit in "Karen's" section if possible. Friendly, witty, and always in a good mood! If you come in grumpy she will put a smile on your face, even if you don't feel like smiling! Tank is a server that will remind you of a grandma with an attitude. But it's a front! Just smile and be pleasant to her and great service is guaranteed! This was my first experience at Blur Bird Cafe. My family and I originally came to downtown Arlington for another place to have brunch but when we got there, the wait line was something we didn't wanted to deal with so we chose Blue Bird since there wasn't a line. We got there a little after 11am. According to the waitress, our order was taken at 11:23am. By 12pm, we still hadn't gotten our food. After flagging down our waitress, we were told that our order was barely being started on and that it would be done in 15mins...I understand it was a Sunday and of course there were other patrons also waiting for their orders but it would have been nice if someone had told us that it would take 55mins for us to receive our food. I've never had to wait that long for brunch items before and my family and I have gone out to many other diners in the area for weekend brunches so "it's the weekend and there are others" weren't excuses that I could tolerate. The waitress was not really apologetic but not rude about it either. All in all, I won't be coming back. The food was ok. Standard diner brunch food but the service was meh. TERRIBLE and RACIST server who goes by "Tami A", spoke to me like I couldn't read the menu, I asked how come they don't put vegetables in the corned beef hash anymore and Tami replies with a VERY snarky tone "if you want cabbage, onion, and peppers in you homemade has you need to specify that, and that will be an extra charge". She brings back out dog food on a plate and slammed the plate down in front of me and proceeds to say "maybe if you could read the menu right we wouldn't be having these issue". She goes back to the kitchen and I can hear her talking to the kitchen staff and they are laughing about how they mixed in a can of dog food in the hash. So I refused to eat it and asked for a side of hash brown at least, and she refused to serve it to me after saying "do you KNOW what hash browns are? Potatoes you know that right?" Speaking to me like I was some incompetent child. I will NEVER go there again and tell everyone this. I've been going to this restaurant since I was in high school and she RUINED THE ENTIRE RESTARAUNT AND MEMORIES FOR ME. SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY. Service and food done right! I am a local and business owner also. I admit, I strive to get to the Blue Bird for a weekend breakfast, when possible. It is a little cafe in a small town with great staff who have big hearts for their customers. Some of the diners that have moved up here during the pandemic to Arlington from a bigger city and are kind of extra demanding to staff. Be kind people! Don't be bossy!! These folks are SERVING you hot delicious food and you are in a small country town with good people. I hope the newcomers settle into learning to be kind and less bossy to us small town businesses. The walls are covered in antique automobile memorabilia. Our family of six was able to sit comfortably in the booth. I really love this style of restaurant, it's familiar to restaurants i grew up with. The conversation around us wasn't loud, we were able to converse with ease. Our food was prepared quickly and was so delicious. We ordered the deluxe bacon burger, onion rings, kids burgers, kids chicken strips, and milk shakes in a variety of flavors. The food tasted exactly like it should, it's a time honored tradition making diner food. It doesn't change, it's not suppose to, it's comforting like mom used to make. I love this place!! read more

Our plan to have breakfast at a nearby establishment was thwarted when we arrived to a sign on the door saying they were closed for a few days. So, we did a pivot and tried Blue Bird. The restaurant was decently busy, but upon entry we were told by 2 different staff members to seat ourselves. We found a table and were quickly presented with menus and asked if we wanted anything beyond water to drink. The not-so-hot coffee arrived quickly as we looked over the menu. It was enjoyable to read about the history of the place, which was also evident by photos on the walls. There were two of us, and we each arrived at the Country Style Eggs Benedict. We ordered, each making our own customization choices from those given by the server, then waited maybe 10 minutes before we each received a mountainous breakfast in front of us. The highs: hash browns done to perfection, great potatoes O'Brien, good biscuits. The lows: highly overcook poached eggs, sausage gravy that was very thick, and almost gloppy. The second round off coffee was actually hot, which was appreciated. Giving a rating here is tough. The service was tops, but the food was overall kind of meh, especially given the price. I'd be happy with less food, that was better prepared. Would I come back? Maybe, but only if the other place was closed. read more

Came in this evening with my three young adult / teenagers to find a cozy quiet place to just have dinner for my birthday together that was not crowded and to try something new. I am not sure if the older woman waitress knew they were my daughters, but right from the start came off extremely condescending and rude. She got right in the face of my oldest child who is quiet and socially akward after ordering chicken tenders . Since it was first time there, we did not know what came with the chicken. Waitress asked how she would like the potatoes done, my daughter simply inquired potato? I just want chicken tenders. The woman snapped back harshly. No you are getting a potato, what kind do you want. Instead of politely offering assistance or what was available she snapped again "You are getting a dinner, make up your mind... we have two more sides to go through yet and you can't decide on what type of potato." She quietly said "I just want french fries" She then proceeded to go around the table with sarcasm and an angry tone talking to my children as if they were less than human. At the end of the dinner, she tossed the bill at me and said here, I assume you are paying it since no one else here looks like a responsible person. My daughters mouths dropped open and tears filled their eyes. My one daughter who has a job, paid for her own car, has a 4.0 GPA and graduated high school at 17 was offended the most. When I went to the counter to pay to let them know we were done and needed a box. She said "No, wait here." and she went back to the table and proceeded to try to force ice cream on my daughter since it came with the meal after telling her we wanted to take the food and go. The first time I ate here was before I tried other local restaurants, and at that time I thought "THIS is the BEST breakfast!" Blue Bird is essentially one of two places people flock (ha) to for breakfast. The other restaurant is down the street (The Stilly Diner). I've been to both restaurants several times, and have to say Blue Bird Café is the SECOND best place I've had breakfast from Seattle to Arlington (sorry)! That said, the food here is really good and blows away any comparable place I've tried around the Seattle area and Eastside. It's just missing that extra something in comparison to The Stilly Diner. Portions are just as huge as you would want/expect from a local diner. Seating is never an issue even during peak hours. The chocolate chip pancakes are rich and fluffy. French toast is also good, although a little on the thin side. The hashbrowns might be my favorite/most-ordered dish here! Blue Bird is a wonderful café with friendly service, fair/cheap pricing, large portions, and all the comfort food you could want. Totally worth tasting for yourself! read more

Every single time I have gone in here as a door dasher, I get dirty looks from the short hairs old lady, I had waited five minutes before I even got talked to, and then when she told the old lady she has a customer she yelled across the restaurant "he is gonna have to wait!" In the worst attitude. Then when she proceeded to ask what my order was, I told her it was a to go order first, and she said "obviously it's door dash" in a shitty voice and looked at me stupid. I stopped in for breakfast while waiting on car repairs. I have never met a Chicken Fried Steak meal I didn't like...until now. Their breading, gravy and hash browns did not taste good at all. It may have been bad or old grease, but I don't know. I told the waitress when she asked if I wanted a box (because I didn't eat anything besides the toast), and she asked if there was something wrong with it in particular. I told her none of it tasted very good. She basically did nothing, took me to the register, and charged me full price. We started coming here late last year and have no intention of stopping. This is a great little diner. The fish and chips are amazing as are the burgers. Make sure you read the specials on the way in as there are real good treats there as well as in the menu. The staff is always friendly and leave you alone to enjoy your meal. Do not forget that they make their own soups and pies. This will make the trip worth while. Of course taking a slice of pie home is always a good option since you will be full after your meal. Went there for breakfast and the place was packed, every seat was taken up. Overheard a discussion that the restaurant across the street was closed (that restaurant had a higher rating so we were going to go there too originally) Looking at the menu there were some tough choices. While tempted to go with my country fried steak I went with the corned beef hash, since they made a special point of mentioning it was homemade. Eggs over easy. And took the biscuit with a side of sausage gravy (then I could still test the gravy). Wife had french toast with a side egg and bacon. Drank ice tea and Mr pibb. I saw some comments that the bacon was hit or miss, today it was definitely a hit. I managed to steal one piece of it from my wife. The French Toast was a different story, my wife ate it all and didn't even leave the crust for me to try. When I asked her why, she said because it was cooked perfectly. The corn beef hash was really good, the beef was chopped up really small just the way I like it and had the right amount of onion. All the eggs were cooked perfectly. The biscuit was nice and moist, not dry. The only small hit I would give would be on the gravy, it was a little too much on the thick side and you could subtlety taste the flour. The gravy did have a good flavor overall, tasted like maybe they had a little bacon in there too. Or maybe it was just the way their sausage was. Even though the place was packed, all the wait staff did a great job of keeping up. And I never once had to ask for my tea to be refilled (it wasn't a see thru cup either). In the end I am glad the other restaurant was closed or we might not have ended up here. Total bill wasn't bad, like $24. But I got a 10% yelp check in bonus that dropped it even a couple more bucks. read more

Blue Bird Cafe was able to accommodate us and right away we felt at "home". The ladies working were the absolute sweetest, especially to my 2 year old son. You have to know that this is a local family business that has been in Arlington forever and has a wonderful local following and serves large portions of cafe style food. With that said my experience is that the service has always been warm and prompt, the food hearty and delicious and the space clean and welcoming. If you don't like something just tell them! They will always make it right. Too much oil on your hash browns? Tell them - gravy too thick ask for it to be thinned - eggs not right? Tell them! It's really that simple. Beware if you are not of Caucasian descent, we were treated like sub-humans who didn't deserve to be served edible food. We attempted to enjoy a Sunday brunch and were sorely mistaken when we chose to eat here. We were asked to sit in the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms, when there were plenty of open booths near the front. We were given glares as we walked in and were seated, no silverware was provided until we requested it. Our children chose cinnamon rolls and they were served and inedible. They were so hard that a knife trying to cut through made a crunching sound. A cinnamon roll should NEVER be crispy. We told the server who went to the manager who said to heat it back up "we will not be giving them another one." We decided to leave at this point because they clearly did not want nor deserve our patronage. I can only imagine that the stares and poor service has something do with us being a biracial couple with multiracial children. Great way to uphold the already well-known stereotype that Arlington harbors blatant racism. Do better Blue Bird!
