Wing's Castle - Inside the "Buddha Room"

Wing's Castle

My husband and I recently stayed at Wing's Castle for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the…read morewhimsical atmosphere. The main rooms were booked for the weekend we wanted, so we opted to stay in the cottage. It was fairytale-like and spacious. We had fun using the record player and listening to the frogs out on the pond at night. We loved the proximity to the Millbrook winery and good restaurants for dinner. Toni, the owner, gave us a tour of the property on the day we checked out. We liked hearing about how she and her late husband first began working on this castle in the 1970s. It's filled with details that anyone who enjoys art would appreciate. It's also a great place for those who are interested in the Middle Ages and fantasize about staying in a castle. We are not typically bed and breakfast enthusiasts, but this stay was one-of-a-kind, and worth doing again!!

With the mountains and the beautiful scenery it really does feel like you got transported to Europe in 1512!! One of the unique things to do if you are on the east coast. There is the Millbrook winery which is only a 1 min drive away. That's its own super cool experience in its own right. The owner and builders wife Ms. Toni Wing was super hospitable and gave us a tour of the castle after our stay with a little bit of history of the creator and artist of this place the Late Peter Wing.

The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream - Adorable place!!!!!!

The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream

The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream was largely nice, though it had its pluses and minuses. The…read moreinn was clearly a motel in a previous life, as it had that lengthy structure with outdoor entrances to each room. The parking lot was gravel-based, so vehicles were parked a bit haphazardly, but the lot's spaciousness ensured that it was not really an issue. The hotel was right on the stream with a lovely grassy area dotted with Adirondack chairs, hammocks, and other ways to enjoy the view. The office was located right next to that little park and was also where the continental buffet breakfast was served. The small room had a great view of the water from its few tables. The breakfast options included various hot beverages, several types of milk, yogurt, berries, granola, pastries, breads, hard-boiled eggs, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. It was really the perfect few bites to start the day with energy and wellness. While the inn had a few larger cabins, many of the rooms were supposedly rather tiny, including ours. The room had a queen-sized bed, nightstand, wall-mounted television, and wooden desk with matching chair. There was a closet with some hanging and shelving space, as well as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. The room really left a lot to be desired from a space perspective, as it was hard to navigate. For instance, the room might have come with 2 luggage racks, but there was really only space for one. The bathroom was also tiny, and it was near impossible to use the toilet without sideswiping the pedestal sink on your way. The shower was a decent size at least. The bathroom came with fluffy towels and Aveda products, which were both appreciated. We also loved that the temperature and pressure of the water were phenomenal; in fact, the shower was like a fire hose! Though the room was small, it was SPOTLESS! Also, its individual heater packed a great deal of warmth. There was not an abundance of electrical outlets, but the alarm clock had one built in, as well as two USB ports. The extremely gracious staff had also left a binder of local recommendations for us on the table. The bed, however, was lumpy, and the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. From a location standpoint, the inn was only a few blocks from either end of town, depending on which way you wanted to travel. The residential roads were very dark at night and many did not have sidewalks, so we definitely needed to be alert walking to and from the main drag, even though we knew the town was overly safe. The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream made up for its lack of amenities and small rooms with efficient, friendly service and clear dedication to guest satisfaction.

All liquid soaps and other stuff. Room #16 was very nice and clean. I would recommend and I would return. Nice fully equipped kitchen. Continental breakfast was OK.

Bella Alpacas Farm

Bella Alpacas Farm

We wanted something different to do for a few days. We went to this B&B in the Bella farm. We had…read morethe run of a very rustic building with a restaurant quality kitchen. The biggest difference from what we normally do is that there was no TV or WiFi. It turned out we survived, nay, thrived without either. We drove around the historic and beautiful countryside, enjoyed a vegetarian breakfast each morning. We were given a bottle of Proseco the first night along with a bottle of home made rose brandy made by the matriarch of the family, that acted like a sleeping potion that night. It was delicious brandy made woth rose and lavender. The alpacas were a delight and I actually go to pet some and get some real closeups of these gentle creatures. Our room was rustic as all getout and incredibly clean and cozy warm. The farm is convenient to wineries, restaurants, historic New Bedford and some real beautiful lakes and woodlands. Believe me, by the time we got finished traveling around western CT all day, we just aout had the energy to go to dinner at some of the dozens of reataurants in the area (reviewed elsewhere). We plan on going back in some warmer weather so we can introduce our parrot to the alpacas. The only thing we missed this trip were the pot bellied pigs, which evedently don't take too well to the cold February temperatures and the snow.

The loft is very cozy and spacious. We've spent the weekend exploring Kent and Lake Waramaug. Coming home to alpacas every day and waking up to them each morning was a real treat I think our dog had more fun than we did! If you are expecting a 5 star hotel this place is not for you. It's a loft above a barn where the alpacas stay. This place is truly for someone who is low key and just wants to relax & enjoy nature. The bed is incredibly comfortable, the shower has hot water, the AC is pumping (in mid-July with a lot of humidity), and there are fresh towels when you arrive. Sal also has a recommendation for everything so be sure to ask him about his favorite local spots! One thing I wish we did was bring a cooler and beach towels. We went to Lake Waramaug for the day and we were not prepared. Otherwise our stay on the farm was unique and relaxing!! If you like exploring nature and love the company of different animals, highly recommend you visit Bella Alpaca.
