I was initially apprehensive about seeing a male therapist as I worried that I'd be embarrassed to open up to him or that he wouldn't understand me. I was wrong. From the first meeting he just told me to say what was on my mind, I did and it was great and I left feeling like I'd actually done something that was helping me move in the right direction. He's friendly, kind, welcoming, a great listener, I don't know how he does it but he remembers pretty much everything, he's funny and you feel like he genuinely cares about what you have to say while helping you realize the reasons why you feel and act the way you do. Along with other important changes I've made in my life, he has truly been a great help in guiding me to be more assertive and quiet my own inner critic enough to find peace of mind. I called out of work to show up to my initial…read morescheduled appointment for an adhd evaluation and they forgot to actually put me down and sent me away saying to come back in the next week. I came back in, did my testing and WAITED for almost 3 months to get my results because the doctors were "on vacation" thats what the lady kept saying even after my results were ready. I waited so long just to have my lived experience put in a box and labeled as "anxiety" and to get CBT. I am already doing CBT and EMDR, my therapist has tracked my depression & anxiety symptoms improving greatly BUT i still suffer from executive dysfunction and I told them this at my evaluation. I just feel so dismissed and like they didnt even retain anything i entailed about my struggles. I took the time out of my day to write a whole letter describing my symptoms and struggle and how it is far beyond depression & anxiety just for them to label it as trivial. Such a waste of time.
