Hurricane Helene (9/26/24) caused monumental damage to this community, and unfortunately to my house as well. Though my backyard fence took the brunt of it all, my roof also experienced the results of high winds and flying debris. And so, with shingles missing and small holes now present, it was clear a new roof would be required. I was one of many homeowners reaching out to literally every roofing company, via Yelp's Request A Quote I might add, and one of the responses came from Southpaw. The quote was on point and the timeline (in a single day) was exactly what I was hoping for. They communicated with me that they would be dropping off the shingles the evening before and sure enough around 7 pm a truck, with pallets and forklift, arrived. The team member sat the pallets to one side of the driveway so I was still able to park on it as well. And soon after sunrise the next day, the team arrived. Ladders went up and shingles came flying down. Before I knew it the sound of hammers on the roof began. They were there to work! Around 3 pm I went outside to get the mail and saw they were almost finished. But the weather had other plans. Rain soon followed. They were quick to cover the last section with tarp and waited on my front porch for almost a hour till the rain subsided. And then they got it done! While two were on the last section, the rest of the team were cleaning up the back and front yards. And let me tell you, it turned out beautifully. I hope I don't require roofing services anytime soon, but if I do I know who I will be calling.

During demolition of our floors, the installer discovered shoddy workmanship of our concrete slab and advised us he would not be able to install the floors we chose. Anne came out to my house within the hour and I was able to get the exact same pattern in a different kind of flooring. The install began on a Thursday and due to our schedule, HAD to be completed by that Sunday. Since we had to get a new floor delivered to our house (which was at a warehouse in Northern Georgia) the clock was ticking. Anne had the suppliers overnight the floors which would be available for pickup on Friday morning. Tina at Fogel's Fine Floors even contacted the supplier until 10 p.m. to ensure the flooring would be available to be picked up Friday morning. The flooring did not arrive in Augusta that Friday morning and through numerous phone calls, the installer discerned the flooring was just Northeast of Atlanta. He immediately drove up to pick up the flooring as he knew if they waited, it would not be delivered until that Monday. As I mentioned, it was simply NOT an option to have the flooring installed after the weekend. The installer going to pickup the flooring was way above and beyond what was required; Anne even allowed us a little extra time to pay the difference between the floorings. I had reached out to 4 companies, Hardwood Floors and More, Home Depot, Lowes and Legacy Floors. Ultimately we chose Hardwood​ Floors and More. The first ones that came out were Legacy. They were 4 hours late, that was also due to the fact that they completely forgot about my appointment and scrambled to have a guy come out, 4 hours later. He did all the measurements and said we would get a bid the next week. I'm still waiting on that bid, they can keep it. Lowes was better in their service and selection but they were not going to budge at all on price and it was quite a premium. Just seemed like a complete turn off when we were buying a huge amount of their products. Home Depot, worst in-store​ service: After speaking up and showing proof of the time I waited, which was two hours, I showed a receipt of another big appliance purchase, having done that I just walked over and asked for help. The sales guy said, just as soon as I bring this product upfront, I'll come back and you're next. Instead, he chose to help another customer who needed help on vinyl​ flooring, completely ignoring me while I was waiting. I wasted nearly two hours waiting to talk to their sales guy on the sales floor, he got an earful of my agitation​. When it came to selection, the selection was minimal and they were the highest-priced​, by several thousand​ for a carpet​​ that was much more inferior in quality, compared to Lowes or Hardwood Floors and More. Here are my reasons for choosing Hardwood Floors and More: I reached out to Teddy Mosley, an absolute pleasure to work with and his professionalism is top-notch​; he listened with patience and care to my concerns for buying a large amount of carpeting and padding that was going to be high quality but not overpriced. When he came to our home, on time, he was professionally dressed with a wonderful attitude. I warned him of the disgusting carpet and stressed that it wasn't us that did that! Teddy spent a considerable amount of time going through explanations​ of what would be​​ to do. He also looked at our wood floors and made great suggestions on that if we chose to replace the wood as well. When I went to the showroom, he spent a lot of time showing me samples and when I chose one, he insisted I take that and a few others home. Teddy worked with us all the way and when it came to pricing, it was reasonable. Without a doubt, Teddy was the reason we chose Hardwood Floors and More, he is an asset to their company. When it came to installation​, Dan came to install with two other of his helpers. They were professional, friendly and very hardworking, again an absolute pleasure. They really busted their backs in our house and transformed what was a nightmare to gorgeous​ carpeting. We are seniors, and Scott made decision-making friendly and non- threatening. Once the roofing actually commenced, it was done in a day and a half. Mr. Hixon brought a large crew with him. They worked hard and very diligently. We couldn't have been more happy with the way our roof turned out. I'm sure our roof is the envy of many people on our street. I have no less than 3 leaks at the moment as you will see from the photos I'm including. The roof has leaked since it was installed. Hixon's has been out on several occasions to look for a problem and I have resorted to putting a water heater pan and painters plastic in the attic to catch water from a hard rain so my ceiling doesn't incur anymore damage. I have been given these excuses so far as to why my roof is leaking: 1) Mr. Spangler, we ran a hose on the roof and we can't find any leaks. 2) Mr. Spangler, the problem is, your chimney has loose mortar and is causing the leak. (I hired someone to fix the mortar.) Guess what, that didn't fix the leak. 3) Mr. Spangler, you have squirrels or raccoons peeing in your attic, and that's causing the water stains on the ceiling. (I kid you not, that is what they told my wife while I was at work.) I understand that some leaks are hard to find. What I resent is the fact that when I had a problem and they sent someone out to try and repair the issue, there was never any follow through. No one called me back to ask if the problem had been fixed. And when I got frustrated with the leaks and asked to speak with the owner, I was completely ignored. I have tried speaking with Mr. Hixon through their on-line web site and by phone. I have even gone down to their business office in Beach Island where I was told he wasn't in. I gave them my name and number and asked for him to call me to no avail. They want you to talk to a contact person which is the salesman who gives you your original quote. The day before the hurricane hit, I came home and found my wife putting a bucket on the floor to catch the rain that was dripping from my ceiling and onto my hardwood floors. I called my contact person and he indicated that he would send someone out to look at the problem the next day. Well, the hurricane hit that night. After several days, I called him back and asked when he would be able to look at the roof leak. He told me , " Mr. Spangler, there has been alot of roof damage. I will call you when I can schedule someone over there. 2 yrs later (literally) he still hadn't called back. I called Hixon's and ask to speak to the owner or I would contact an attorney. 15 min. later, my contact person called......I don't want to talk to a contact person. I don't want to talk to someone who doesn't return my calls and doesn't care if my roof leaks or not. Mr. Hixon never called back. So now I am left with writing this review about my experience. I will have to hire another roofing contractor to fix my leaks, something that I paid Hixon to do for me. BUYER BEWARE I was going to post some pictures of my ruined ceilings but it doesn't look like that is possible on Yelp reviews.

Bottom Line: we got truly top-shelf quality carpet installed at easily less than a third of what…read morewe would've paid at Lowe's or especially Kirklands. Lowe's didn't even carry carpet the quality we got - we got Karastan and high-quality Stainmaster carpet and pads. First ask yourself this: what is important to you? If you are new to the area like us, your wallet is hemorrhaging with one out of three contractors not getting back to you with a quote; one outta three gives you a sky-high price because there is so much work out there and they just don't give a damn about you; but if you look hard enough, you'll find a third outfit that is hungry, takes cash, and will deliver the same or better product at a really good price. OK, C&CC might appear a bit sketchy but we saved hella cash and we love the final outcome. The carpet is stored at a huge warehouse - walk around, pick your carpet and the staff will help you to pick the best-in-breed they have on the floor. They buy after job / job lot from the big contractors/outfits and they'll pass those savings on to you. The installers were good ol' boys and they did scuff up our freshly painted walls a bit (I was initially angry but the scuffs could be washed or painted over) but they did do a good job on the install. I helped out a bit as I've installed carpet with my Dad when younger. They overcut the yardage we needed so we have carpet we can make area rugs from. Again, you can buy top-shelf carpet from C&CC and get it installed by others or get it installed by their associated installers. Lowe's and Kirkland's hires out their installs - if you read their reviews, the performance of their contractors can be spotty as well and you'll easily be paying triple... your choice on how you wish to spend your money. My wife is super happy with the outcome from C&CC and that is truly saying something.
