Purchased the first time special float + massage couples combo package and was not disappointed with any part of the experience. Due to an unexpected scheduling issue we were unable to get the actual massages with our other services, we had to schedule the massages separately from the float/dreamwave bliss services which wasn't a big deal. For our first visit we completed the hour float and the dreamwave bliss chair massage. The float was a bit trippy at first as you're laying in a low level warm epsom salt bath in the total darkness and total silence. It took some time to get used to the sensory deprivation and the floating but once I did it was nice to just zone out and enjoy the experience. I felt that an hour was a bit long for me as I got bored about a half hr in but it was great to try. Don't think I would do it again, once was enough. Probably not the best experience for those that feel claustrophobic though since you're laying in a bath in the dark with ear plugs in. The Dreamwave bliss chair massage was great. You sit in a giant, cushy leather chair that envelopes your whole body (including your head) and rollers massage you. There is also a stretching portion of the experience where the chair pulls your legs and back. If you cannot get regular hand massages this is a good second best as it really does touch your whole body. Again, probably not the best for those that get claustrophobic since the chairs wrap around your limbs and head. Our second visit was for the actual massages with Charles. I have no aches and pains so I received the regular body massage and was able to relax and let him work his magic. My BF has aches and pains in his back and Charles worked with him on his target areas and did some stretches as well to help alleviate the body issues. We both said his was the best massages we've ever had and in fact my BF signed up for biweekly appts so he can continue progressive sessions to keep his pains in check. Mike the owner was super pleasant and nice. We were provided comfortable fluffy clean robes at both visits. The atmosphere in the place was calming and welcoming. Would definitely recommend Bloom Wellness if you're looking to treat yourself to a relaxing zen like experience. read more

My experiences at Bloom have been amazing! Mike, Andrew, and Charles are all extremely friendly and welcoming people. I floated for the first time at Bloom and seriously enjoyed the experience, while being amazed at the attention to detail that the guys put into everything. The space is gorgeous and clean, and they provide you with everything you could think of needing: ear plugs, towel, robe, slippers, and much more. My massage with Charles was equally as relaxing as the float session; he is a very talented and intuitive massage therapist. Not only did he ask me right away about any areas of tension, but he actually listened and gave me advice as to how I can improve my posture in everyday life. TLDR: I would recommend this place to anybody, forever. My fiancé and I arrived to Bloom Wellness about 60 mins prior to our couples massage and float session, so we had 30 mins to kill before heading inside. While we were hanging out in our vehicle, Mike gave us a call. He said that they were running about 15 mins behind schedule and that if we wanted to head in now we could. So we pack up our things and head inside. Mike greeted us at the counter and instructed that we were going to be having a 30 min session in the massage chairs, as well as foot soak. We, not knowing about this prior, were very excited and intrigued. So we head to the massage chairs, which are in a secluded room with dim ambient lighting, and soft music playing. Inside are 2 massage chairs. Mike gets us set up, which includes folding you into the chair like you are heading into space. The massage starts, and I couldn't believe that I was in a chair. I had more relief in my lower back than when I have been adjusted by my chiropractor. My fiancé and I ended up falling asleep. This is an awesome place. Much smaller than I thought it'd be but it still has lots of space and a very warm and relaxing atmosphere. The owner is fantastic!! My boyfriend's daughter discovered the concept of "water flotation" as a relaxation technique and we agreed to take her to test it out. Turned out his son wanted to try too. Since there are only two pools, I let the munchkins go first (with his parental consent). The three of us began our sessions in gigantic relaxation chairs for 15 mins (you can go for a longer time but it grows in price--we did the 15 mins in the chairs and 30 mins in the pools to just get a taste of the experience). The chairs alone are an experience and I was asleep by the end. They turn the lights off except for a small nightlight type and you can listen to music through headphones. After that, you head to the pools. Once you close and lock the door from the rest of the spa, you're facing one big room separated by glass. (The room is very humid and reminds me a bit of a sauna.) One side of the glass is to change your clothes, the other has the shower and pool. I say pool because it's much larger than a regular bathtub (I asked and it will comfortably fit a man up to 6'5" tall (as will the massage chairs). You shower first using special soap and shampoo supplied by the spa (left side of the shower head). Then get into the pool, which is skin temperature. Again, a waterproof iPod shuffle and headphones are available that plays easygoing flutey-type music. The lights go off on a sensor and you are left to float in 10" of water. If you get out of the pool at any time, small sensor lights will come on so you can see. After a few minutes in the pool, I was so relaxed, I felt like I was sinking yet I never moved other than to just continue floating. Your floatation session ends when the lights come back on. Then you shower (shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel on the right side of the shower head). The kids loved it and my guy was jealous that he didn't do it. I promised to take him back so he could also experience how wonderful it was/is. The spa offers other services but I'm not sure what they all are (I do know they have yoga though). Interesting experience getting a massage here a couple months back....positives were that I was scheduled quickly even though I have limited availability due to my job and my massage therapist was excellent. She was super knowledgeable and even suggested some exercises for me to help with my back and shoulder that I've been having issues with. The facility is sparkling clean and does exude a very relaxing, calming atmosphere. Now for the interesting part. The front desk staff are less than helpful when you arrive. There seems to be an assumption that everyone has been there before and should know where to put things and wait and all that. I felt like one of the front desk staff was just staring at me like I was an idiot. It was very weird and awkward to say the least. The other thing that was odd was that my massage therapist didn't actually work there, she was subbing which I wasn't informed about until after when I was asked about scheduling another appointment with the normal therapist. The front desk staff all kept shooting each other looks that I couldn't figure out the meaning of or reasoning behind. It actually made me very uncomfortable and is probably the single factor behind why I don't think I'll ever go back. Parking was another issue. I went on a Saturday and spent about ten minutes waiting for a spot after already spending time driving around trying to figure out where I was actually supposed to park. read more

This was my first time floating and so far I've floated three times at Bloom. The first time was nice in the way that it was a unique experience and allowed me to relax after a stressful week- I definitely had fantastic sleep for the next three nights and my body felt loose compared to the usual stiffness due to extended hours sitting at a desk. The second time floating was definitely different. Mike, the owner, really wants his customers to have a good experience so he let me float for almost two hours! I had the most incredible experience and I lost track of time while in the tank. I felt all of the relaxation I felt the first time floating but the after effects left all of my sensations hyper-stimulated. I could feel the fibril softness and roughness of my clothing in a way I've before took notice to. Sounds were elevated in intensity. I was especially hyper aware of the moods and feelings of those around me- if they were tired, anxious, etc. regardless of what they were saying to me. Nonetheless I was still in a state of absolutely calmness and relaxation. I couldn't help but take notice of everything around me but it didn't effect my mood. Everything felt well. The third time, I had a similar experience as the first time, left in a good relaxed mood. My body was feeling great and rejuvenated. I guess that no float experience will be the same- and the state of your own mind and body prior to floating will effect your experience. I don't know if I should attribute this to floating or not- but my life has changed a lot since I've begun to float. I've been able to tap into the creativity, passion, and productivity for school, work, and personal passion projects in writing and filming for the last three weeks. I feel like my creative drive has been reawakened- and like I said before I don't know if it's because of floating but it likely may have been especially since floating has been shown to enhance creativity. Will definitely continue to float and I've been recommending all my friends and family to explore Bloom's services! Balance for our fast-paced lives. There are so many avenues for seeking mental, physical, and spiritual clarity and stability. Be it exercise, proper nutrition, etc; all are great tools to finding balance. Add doing "nothing" regularly to your habits, and we start to understand true freedom. That's what happens when you spend time in one of these blissful float tanks, you allow yourself to do nothing. Yesterday was my first float ever, and I believe it's just the first layer of the onion. I spent the following hours more conscious and with an effortless smile. The only effort needed is to get yourself to Bloom. Even if it's just for the heavenly massage chair (seriously, this thing wraps you up and hugs the tension out of you) that you start the experience with. You owe it to yourself. My fiancé and I came to Ann Arbor for a staycation, and a couples massage at Bloom was on our docket. I've only had a massage a handful of times in my life; my lady has had far more. I'd say this was hands-down my best ever, my lady said this was easily in her top three. Mike was incredibly accommodating over the phone, and even more so when we arrived. We were a bit early, so he gave us the option to go into the sauna or the massage chairs. My fiancé chose the massage chairs, and we were incredibly surprised at how complex and comprehensive they were. These are NOT like any massage chairs you've ever seen before. Just try them. When it was time for our massage (we went for 90 minutes - and don't think that's too long, you'll love every minute!), Leah and Rebecca spoke with us about target points and desired results and made us feel right at home. Leah (my masseuse) was friendly and conversational, but without talking too much and dissipating the experience. As my night job, I'm an Axe Master at Detroit Axe in Ferndale. I was very impressed that Leah could tell which was my throwing arm and which leg I lunge with - without my having said a word about it. Her intuition is fantastic. She regularly checked in without being overbearing in the least. Rebecca was a bit quieter, but regularly checked in on my fiancé as to pressure, her target areas, etc., and was ready with tissues when my fiancé's sinuses started to drain from lying face down! Since I'm very much an extrovert and my fiancé is very much an introvert, the assignment of personnel worked out really well. I can't say enough about how happy we were with the experience, from start to finish. I have been to numerous spas and wellness centers over the years and this is by far the best experience i've ever had. The staff was all extremely friendly, helpful and my masseuse Amina was amazing and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. I have a very sensitive back and have such a hard time finding someone who puts genuine thought into their bodywork the way she did! I left feeling amazing, highly recommend for everyone, especially if you struggle with finding people who genuinely care about giving you the best spa experience. My first visit did NOT start out as planned. I was running late, stressed out from a morning work call. My sister was visiting from out of town, so I really wanted to bring her somewhere special but worried about her thoughts on a "float". I was already nervous about "floating" because I have a slight fear of drowning and wasn't sure I could get through a visit. So clearly I was an anxious person when I walked in the door...but my worry quickly dissipated. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the airy spa decor. Mike greeted us warmly and had everything organized to get us started right away. The locker rooms are beautiful and clean (locks to keep your belongings safe). We were handed slippers and a soft robe to change into and then our first stop was the massage chair room. I thought the same thing most people think, "I've been in a massage chair at the pedicure place, they just roll over your back and legs...blah blah blah". No! Not blah at all! These chairs are AWESOME. It's like the chair learns your body and seeks out the tight spots and then it moves to that very spot! I don't know really know HOW it works but it really dialed my stress from a 10 down to a 1. There was also this really pleasant lavender-mint scent in the room, the lights were dimmed and there was a really amazing piece of artwork on the wall so it really helped set the ultimate scene for relaxation. I probably could've stopped after the 1st round in the chair and would have been good. The 2nd round on the "stretch" mode left me a tiny bit sore (clearly I needed more stretching). Next we moved into the float room. It is a ROOM not a TANK (so many people asked me if I felt claustrophobic in the "tank" because that's what other places have. Not here. It's a large room with a shower and a float pool). Mike went over how to use all the items in the room and how to float. After my quick "pre-float shower" I opted to use the neck ring to help hold my head above water and the water proof headphones. It took me a few minutes to get situated (and get past the whole drowning thoughts...ugh) but it didn't take long to relax because you really do FLOAT. I felt like it was harder to NOT float (try putting your feet under water) so you just let go, float and lay there. I think I zoned out for a good 15 minutes but then I got panicky. The room is SO WARM that I couldn't tell the difference between air and water so I couldn't tell if I was under the water or still floating! (yeah, I'm an anxious person, I think I said that). So despite trying to relax again for the next 30 min I really just moved around for another 10 minutes marveling how easy it was to float in that water and then got out and took my "post-float shower". I felt a little defeated for not floating the whole 45-60min but after I came out for a cup of tea, Mike reassured me that the first float can be challenging for lots of people. I sat enjoying my tea, fresh fruit and almonds waiting for my sister (who had NO trouble floating and relaxing the whole 60min) and couldn't help but feel so totally relaxed looking around me: The beautiful lighting, the plants, the clean lounge, relaxing music, the calming scents, the tea, the friendly staff, the artwork...it was everything a Spa SHOULD be. The details are what really won me over. I'm not sure if I'll float again but I can say without a doubt, I will definitely be back. read more

I have floated before and have had to open the tank halfway through due to claustrophobia and high humidity. Getting in a tank at Bloom is like getting in a beautiful big bathtub that makes you feel like you're floating in the air. Not to mention the facility is impeccable - really clean, smells nice, beautiful from floor to ceiling with awesome body care products to use pre- and post float. Being in the tank relieved all of my back tension - right when I got in my back cracked in two places that it had been hurting. Before floating you get to sit in an awesome massage chair that actually feels like people are massaging you, and afterwards there is a post-float room where you can relax by yourself with access to interesting coffee table books and journals to write in. Floating at bloom wellness is almost like an out of body experience and so blissful! The water temperature is just right and the music selection is so uplifting. The massage chair beforehand is amazing too as there are a few different program selections depending on your mood which prep you even more for the float experience. The interior design is beautiful and you truly feel like you're being pampered at a spa with relaxing super comfortable bathrobes and even tea after in a separate lounge area to continue the blissful feeling with some additional activities and books available. This is no rush but such a nice relaxing rejuvenating way to start the day or weekend... Floating after at a hot yoga class (Red Yoga in same building) is also such an amazing experience. After stretching out from sitting in front of a computer at work almost all day and aligning the body allows to detox and renew under the infrared heat panels. The magnesium and minerals in the float tanks help replenish the body and you enter into the float bliss sensation a little faster. Had a really nice time at Bloom with a massage chair, float, massage and sauna package. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, the massage chairs (which completely envelop your arms and legs) were a bit bizarre but were fun, and Charles, the massage therapist, was incredible - would go back solely to see him again. The float was very interesting; the sensation of floating was so foreign that it took me a while to get relaxed, but I'd try it again knowing what it feels like. I couldn't decide where to get a massage for my birthday gift. I looked up some reviews on Yelp and decided to give Bloom a shot. It was amazing! Mike was super helpful and made the experience very relaxing. My massage by Charles was one of the best I've had. He knew where all of my knots were and was very knowledgeable. I tried a float session too for my first time which was very relaxing in my own private room. They also gave me bath salts and a candle as a birthday gift; how cute! Mike and Bloom Wellness are top notch in literally every way. It is a calm, soothing atmosphere that makes you feel completely relaxed almost upon entering the doors. We felt completely at ease and the spa is clean and luxurious. The lighting is perfect. As for floating. It is a wonderful experience and I would like to go many more times. Bloom Wellness has a significant leg up on the competition in the fact that the flotation pools are open and in a beautiful room rather than climbing in a capsule. Excellent float rooms. My research and clinical work with float tanks began in 1978, and since then I have floated in many different styles of tanks and rooms. Bloom wellness has very nicely designed, spacious float rooms that maintain temperature and humidity in the proper range. The dressing area is very nice and the overall ambience of the center is just what a floater wants. The float rooms are designed to appeal to both novice and experienced floaters. I had recently read about Floating, and was really intrigued by the benefits, so I was so happy to be able to experience it in Ann Arbor. It was a bit different at Bloom Wellness than I had seen online. The tanks are not enclosed, so if you are claustrophobic, don't fret! The experience itself was very tranquil and relaxing. If you truly want to relax, this is the place to go. I could have been content with just the twenty minute massage chair but the one hour "float" took it to the next level. Your body is more buoyant in salt water so you float right on the surface, just be carful when you put your head in so that you don't get salt water in your eyes (fresh water is provided in case that happens) They provide earbuds that pipe in relaxing music, just close your eyes, clear your mind, and let all your muscle tension melt away. The advantage of floating is there are no pressure points like you would have trying to relax on a yoga mat or soft bed. It's a truly unique experience, I highly recommend it. I had an amazing time at Bloom. As a first time floater I did not know what to expect. However, Mike, the owner, along with another floater were very open and hospitable in getting my mind, body, and soul acclimated for the experience. To start, Bloom's environment is open, very clean, and inviting. After spending around 25 minutes being massaged, I was ready to float. It's hard to describe what I felt during my float, rest-assured...it was amazing and I think if you have the time you need to go in and experience it for yourself and if you don't have time you need to make time. As a creative, after my float, my body and mind felt cleansed, refreshed, and rejuvenated. I was able to form thoughts more succinctly and my body felt more in tune to the environment. We are visiting Ann Arbor for a wedding and my son and I decided to treat ourselves to massages. First of all, my son scheduled two 60-min sessions and when we got there, they'd reserved a couples room for us - not cool - and wouldn't change it. Then, we both requested deep tissue therapeutic massages and marked down that we wanted the hardest pressure. So we were super surprised that both our massages were the gentlest we've ever received, after dozens of massages over the years in Brooklyn and DC. My son said his masseuse had long fingernails and scratched him. To top it off, we timed the sessions and they lasted only 50 min. Wow!- what's with all these 4- and 5-star ratings? Definitely not deep tissue and even less than what I'd expect from a "relaxing/swedish/gentle" massage. The best I can say about it is that it was better than nothing.
